How was Mariah lazy during the Glitter era? She was everywhere doing endless interviews before the breakdown.

Glitter era could never be as bad as this era. She was at least promoting and actually singing in the Glitter era until the exhaustion/breakdown moment. I give her a pass for Glitter because she was in a bad situation and she needed a time out. I'll never ever hold that moment in her life against her. This era gets no passes. There's no excuse for alot of what's been happening.

You must've not experienced that Glitter era first hand. That era was everything bad, Mariah had been blacklisted passive aggressively by the industry and written off. It was cool to hate on Mariah, you belonged when you hated Mariah. And everything she seemed to do automatically went wrong. A lot can be said about that time, but I'll keep it brief with just this example of Usher saying in an interview "I'm having a Mariah Carey today" he used her name as an adjective for a bad day. Smh. So this era doesn't come close, trust me.

Sad to say (72,651)
by T from USA

It's sad to say but I think If Mariah left the business for good after 2010's MCIIY she would be a lot more respected as a legend and better off than she is now. I happen to like the material on MIAMTEC but it didn't help her career in legacy in anyway. Actually the only song I think is worthy of Mariah Carey since 2010 is "Dedicated feat. Nas". In a way I wish she took a five year break after 2010, raised dem babies and came back with "#1's To Dedicate" in 2015. And then she could've retired from active duty and maybe just toured for the rest of her career. Then she would be on a way higher level then she's let herself stoop to now.

26 million viewers Grammy's missed opportunity (72,650)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
This years Grammy's was the highest rated show since 2014 Grammy's. A lot more people watched the Grammy's live than Dick Clark's New Years special. It could've been redemption for Mariah. If her career never gets back on track or she doesn't ever get the respect she lost from New Years, I'll trace it right back to the missed opportunity that was the Grammy's.

Glitter or current era - worst of all time (72,649)
by Sheila from United States
| |
|

I'm not sure which era is worst. The two laziest era's and it keeps getting worst. 2017 started out with a poor performance, a dragging by the media and public, [...] fans hating on her, she went bowling instead of doing the [...] tribute, the [...] article. Can this era get any worst. Lets hope the Kimmel performance is live and well rehearsed.

Grammys (72,648)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
I didn't even bother with the show nor performances, Adele as usual swept through the roof with wins as expected (blah). She's still no Mariah Carey, never has, never will. To me the Grammies lost all forms of respect, and credibility the moment they robbed Mariah of her 6 Grammies. Where's Alanis today? Exactly my point, meanwhile the rejected one (Mariah) became the best of the best, a living legend (and the voice of a generation) with a body of work she can firmly boast of as the best that industry will ever see. I'll take that over any Grammy trophies anyday.

I agree. Lemonade is amazing when listening on its own but paired with its visuals, all of its cultural context and bold messages came to life. I wish Mariah could do something more like Lemonade. More bold experimentations and less formulaic songs.

I think it's because the song was released in the same week as the Superbowl. There are a lot of Lady Gaga songs that re-entered the Hot 100 so I guess if there was no Superbowl, it charted at 60-70. And after Superbowl, there's the Grammys, so I think it's good that she performs after these huge events.

Adele's GM tribute song choice - Fastlove (72,645)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
Is anybody else as happy as I am with her song choice? It was genius mostly for 2 reasons: First, though its theme (an ode casual sex) may be deemed inappropriate for a tribute, apparently Adele actually chose this song because it was her first memory of hearing George Michael. She put her own orchestral Bond-soundtrack spin to it, which was nice. You could tell this track meant a lot to her. Second, they avoided the obvious/predictable. They could have easily come up with a medley of his hits where most songs likely would have come from the Faith era, but instead they went for one of George's most criminally underrated tracks, which also happens to be his last charting hit in the US. Here's an article explaining other reasons why it was the perfect choice. Fastlove is one of my most favorite GM songs. The track is what expensive sex sounds like in sonic form, which can be quite ironic for a song about hooking-up. And that video was ahead of its time. Bravo, Adele. Once again, RIP to "The Singing Greek".

Kimmel (72,643)
by Lee from UK

"I Don't" is not a song that should be performed live. I sure hope Mariah does something completely unexpected with it. Make it acoustic or completely change it in some way. I can't believe I'm at that point with Mariah where I am cringing at a performance before it has even happened. This should not be the case. And for the love of the gods, please please please leave the leotards and bodysuits at home.

Apparently the new house Mariah is renting is $100K a month. Oh man. She should just go back to NYC where she has just 1 guest bedroom so that homeless Stella and her family can't use her home as a lodging home.

Stella was the one who went on several interviews to make the claims of sabotage but of course Stella can't do these interviews if Mariah didn't allow her. Mariah made a vague statement through her insta only and said she'll talk about it later but it has been over a month, almost 2 and I think she should just let it go. Stella I'm sure is the one who cried sabotage and Mariah being a victim of it before found it easier to digest than acknowledging that she has a circus for a team. I also wouldn't put it past Stella to stage stuff possibly even without Mariah knowing to get "viral moments" which she loves. Because the NYE drama lead to Stella doing full length interviews for the first time. Not one, but multiple.

Mariah no longer has the passion for music (72,638)
by Giovanni from USA
| |
|

"Beautiful" has been her only good, strong single since "Don't forget about us". Everything after from "You're mine" to "Infiniy" to "I don't" is just one disappointment after another. Where is the Mariah Carey who wrote "Vision of love", "Make it happen", "Dreamlover", "Anytime you a friend"? Her music has lacked meaning and has no message. How many break up songs is she going to write? At this point with her music I have lost all hope for a comeback. She is just not putting out the best music. I will always love the work she created when she was younger up until "The Emancipation Of Mimi".

Definitely deserved album of the year. It was cohesive, scored a hit single and sold over 8 million copies. I can't say the same for "Lemonade". Adele getting mushy over Beyonce was so over the top.

I would highly recommend viewing it in its visual, before listening to the album. It's a masterpiece, her magnum opus. So many layers. Really reminded me of Butterfly in terms of seeing an artist at their commercial peak go completely against the grain and release something so beautiful and personal.

Mimi, I agree. Unfortunately Stellar likes to make accusations. I wonder why she didn't agree to the joint statement and why DCP claimed their was no issues on their end? Did Mariah publicly say that or was it just Stellar? Maybe Stella had the set messed with to get her 15 minutes which she got.
