I'm also not pissed because (67,040)
by Marissa from USA

Upon further research, the general consensus from what I'm reading online about the Empire episode is that the song is amazing. Infamous is not my cup of tea, but if society at large is enjoying it (which is always the ultimate goal, half of the rage people experience when MC puts out a song that they don't like is really fear that the general public will have the same unfavorable perception), I see no reason for me to get myself worked up about it. Literally every non-lamb tweet that I'm seeing is saying that it's a bop. I'm counting this as a victory whether I'm really into the song or not.

Why I'm not enraged over Infamous (67,039)
by Marissa from USA
| |
|
|
1. Given the somber context that the song was debuted in on the show, it was impossible for the smash hit wonder, club banger song that everyone wanted. Infamous 100% fits the context of the episode of Empire. The criteria for the song was to be a safe bet for Jamal to regain his confidence in singing. The context was basically rigged against anything truly awe-inspiring to begin with. 2. The fact that Mariah's appearance was extremely short with no character development and it appears that she will not have a recurring role makes it hard to get into any material that she puts out regardless of how good it sounds. If you think a quick, forgettable appearance is going to make it effortless for Mariah to start snagging #1s again, you're sadly mistaken. She has to be consistently visible in mainstream media if there is going to be a major surge in interest for her again. Even with her best effort musically, I still don't think this Empire micro-appearance would have been enough for any significant results. Ultimately, I don't think it was as big of a missed opportunity as people were making it out to be. Everyone is entitled to their opinions.

Empire/Infamous (67,038)

Although her appearance seems a little brief or short but I must say her stint was great and for once she was trending on twitter for all the good reasons. They love Mariah in there and especially the song. I saw this tweet earlier, "I wonder how those lambs feel about dragging Mariah for making Infamous but here we are and everyone loves it Empire", I'm glad other people appreciates Mariah. Watch the music video on Vevo.

Demi (67,037)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

Now we all know by now this girl just has zero clue how or when to keep her opinions to herself. Now she's in hot water once again for shading Taylor Swift, particularly her song Bad Blood and its video, both of which are clearly directed at Katy Perry, practically calling Tay a hypocritical feminist. While she has made a more valid point with that than her misguided Mariah rant which I honestly am having trouble even remembering, in typical Demi cowardice, she has announced that she's decided to take a break from the industry that's "not for [her]". Didn't she announce she was leaving Twitter after the Mariah incident only to return less than 24 hours later? I wonder how long this "break" is gonna take this time. Really, girl, if you're in your 20's and even going sexy still didn't work for you, then you're more than right about the "not for [you]" part.

Re: Solange - Wants to work with Mariah (66,999) (67,035)

Check this out This is qhm. Solange mentions wanting Mariah to sing some songs she has written at about the 2:25 mark. Let's hope they can make this happen. I am sure they are songs that she feels would work well for Mariah's sound and hopefully take her a a little further. Awesome that she calls Mariah a brilliant songwriter.

Good side (67,034)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
So I'm perplexed by something and maybe a die hard can help me understand it. Remember after MC left Tommy she did a couple of interviews saying that early in her career someone told her one side of her face was horrible and it should never be shown. She said she was a fool to listen to that. In 2001, she said Honey was the first video where you could see a forehead in its entirety and she learned not to be inhibited about so many things. Now over the last several years, she's back to having a good side and wanting to sit on certain sides of the stage. What happened?

F.U.B.U. (67,032)
by RibbonB from USA
| |
|
|
I am loving Solange's song F.U.B.U. It has a really good vibe and groove and co-written by none other than the Dream. Lol. Luckily she tamps down any vestige of him in the song. Somehow I don't picture Mimi doing a song called F.U.B.U. but perhaps one called "Not For Yall" though. Hehehhee. "This yacht, not for yall, these baubles yall can't have 'em. Yall can watch, but that's about all when I Instagram them..." Let me stop. Empire tonight.

IDK, maybe Jim is part of the writing team, but M. JD and B. Cox co produced it. Tweet Big Jim, I am sure he will tell you. Maybe he was just promoting the song, if not an actual co-writer. So yeah, based on Mariah's quote she wrote the song with Big Jim and JD. But B Cox is a co producer.

I'm so excited for Jojo's new album, she's such an underrated talent. If you haven't heard "Mad Love", you can hear it here. Such a nice song, and definitely the sort've sound that I think would work well with Mariah. It's current, but still R&B.

I disagree, I think garage has made a bit of a comeback of late (Katy B, Ms Dynamite, Craig David etc.) but it seems to me like it's a very British genre. Definitely the last genre on this planet I can imagine Mariah venturing into.

She has tried garage/two-step with Loverboy MJ Cole Remix. It's not her best remix but it's still quite a bit of fun. I think she would do well in that field if she ever decides to explore it more. I must say though, garage is outdated. I'm not sure that it would help her career in any way.

Following My Intuition is similar to MIAMTEC in the sense that it is an amalgam of styles that hark back to the artist's best past work. However, while MIAMTEC had fresh cuts such as Meteorite, Make It Look Good and #Beautiful, Craig's most latest release doesn't really have any standouts that are great enough to rank among his best material. That being said, I'm really happy for him as well. Nobody plays with the 2-step garage genre better than he does (if Mariah tried, then that would be interesting). I have been a fan of him since the beginning, but he lost me with Trust Me. His new set isn't as immediate as Born To Do It, not as creative as Slicker Than Your Average, and not as radio-ready as ...The Story Goes, but it's his strongest album since then and is truly comeback-worthy. Kudos to another brilliant artist who has started in the business as a teenager, exploded into the scene with phenomenal success, struggled to maintain that success for a while, only to return triumphant at 35 - yeah, just like Mariah.

Re: Solange - A Seat At The Table (66,999) (67,021)
by RibbonB from USA

I just listened to two of Solange's new songs and they are very nice. She seems to have gone the way of Erykha Badu with her first record "Baduizm" and Jill Scott, with her first "Who is Jill Scott?" Good stuff. Mariah never took that route back in '99-2001 so I doubt she'd take it now, but it would be nice if she got a little more experimental and raw. This is one reason why I would love her to work with Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes. She is a great musician, and experimental singer, plus they have a little Alabama connection. I wonder who developed Solange's tracks, interesting if it is some of the old neo soul guys. I just found the track information, kudos to Solange for writing all of her songs. Who knows maybe she and M. will work together. She was tweeting up a storm about Mariah this summer. If M. does go a little minimalist let's hope people give it more of a shot than some have for Infamous. Lol.

No Christmas concerts this year? / 2017 / box sets (67,020)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
I find it odd that there has not been an announcement about her annual Christmas concert this year. I believe last year the concerts dates were announced last year before now. Maybe her team wants to focus on Mariah's World broadcast in December on E. I am sure Mariah will be doing an extensive promo schedule to promote the docu series in late November early December. Or Mariah and James are planning a Christmas wedding? I am just throwing out these possible scenarios. Is anybody else feeling this way? I really believe 2017 is going to be Mariah's second comeback year. 2017 would make 12 years since Mariah's first comeback. She always says she is eternally 12. Lol. I am just saying. She probably will spend most of 2017 recording her new album with L.A. Reid's guidance again. He has been quiet lately since Meghan Tranior's second album bombed on the charts. He really hasn't had a mega sales album release since he took over as President of Epic. Mariah's 2017 release maybe his last chance for a mega sales hit. I guess time will only tell what 2017 holds for Mariah and L.A. Reid. What do you think? One last thing, whenever a box set is released by Sony or Def Jam, it going to be a huge event. I sure hope we get any album leftover tracks, B-sides, live tracks, and unreleased remixes. I am anxious to hear "Reach For The Sky", "Mesmerized", the full version of "Skydiving", "When I Feel", the original version of "Dreamlover", Me I Am Mariah-The Dream track, any unreleased Ben Marguiles tracks, the live version "Endless Love" with the late Luther Vandross, the extended version of "Your Girl", and the one I would love hear right now - "Yours" duet with Justin Timberlake. Any thoughts?

Kitten and Cotten (67,017)
by RibbonB from USA
| |

I wonder if Lee Daniels will make a cameo on Wednesday with Mariah. Since she is named Kitten and their "lil" pet names for each other are Kitten and Cotton, it would be cute if he made one of his rare cameos. They could both just be themselves. Lee is the worst actor ever IMO lol. I once tweeted him some playful shade about his acting in his movie Shadowboxer and he RT'd it with his own "damn" added. LMAO. I said he was the worst actor in his own movie and he didn't even have lines. His brief moment was too funny though.

Mariah: Crystal vs Solange, a seat at the table (67,014)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
I feel like both Crystal and Solange are great female song writers but if I could pick I would rather Mariah collaborate with Solange. To me Crystal brings the fun witty one liners but Solange's writings are much more raw and honest. We have E=MC2 and that's fine but I don't want another version. I rather have something more in line with "A Seat at the Table". PS. I love Mariah's work with Walter A and if there was a chance for one more collaboration (or even just a sit down writers' session) I would totally be down for that.
