Re: Infamous is ok (66,889) (66,908)

After reading all the posts here to Infamous I finally listened to the song. I expected nothing because many of you don't like the song. But I think for "Empire" it works. It fits perfect to all the other songs from that TV series. If it would be the new single from Mariah's new album I could understand the disappointment. We'll see what's up next. Maybe she pleases then more fans and listeners.

I wonder where Stella's "19th #1" hype announcement fits in. It definitely isn't Infamous. Could it be that a proper single is on its way? Maybe they have something in the works for AIWFCIY? I doubt she'll release a new single now with Christmas only a couple of months away.

I hate to admit but I actually love when Mariah goes, "I know it's dangerous, but I believe, a greater love there can never be". It's starting to grow on me totally. It's not like a great moment but it's nice radio filler.

Hello Ms. Girl, footnote "concealer works". It's ok to give your take on the song but to bash and bash and bash another human being over her vocals, her hair, her weight, her dress, her nails, her manager, her manager's kids, her instagram, her videos, her makeup artist is a bit destructive, right? Ok, I've proven my point. Keep in mind, when Mariah gets married and moves over the pond somewhere and there is "no" music, I guess these debbie downers will miss these little guest appearances and those red carpet moments, because trust and believe sweetie, it's coming.

The silence of the lambs (66,904)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
It's no wonder Mariah is reaching out to the younger generation for new fans who would love her, accept and support her unconditionally as she is now, and talk and refer to her with love and respect. Unlike the core fans who started with her and Tommy's vision of Mariah Carey. Those fans fell off along the way, and morphed into something crafted from pure hate. While still deceiving themselves they're still rational, and "love" her, yet when it comes to Mariah Carey, you get a glimpse of the confusion and ugly they are inside. And they're here littered all around with their distorted, inverted perceptions about her shamelessly spewing hate and negativity any chance they get. How miserable they must truly be. . A new crop of Mariah Carey fans is being raised void of all those issues the greater part of her original fanbase have. And in time the 795 B.C. entitled fans would be long forgotten because they and their distorted opinions on her won't matter, will not even be tolerated nor entertained.

Miley (66,899)

I can't blame her honestly. I think it's not even Mariah's music that she dislikes, it's just Mariah in general, Mariah disrespecting other people's time. I remember in World Music Awards 2014 where Miley was in, Mariah was opening the show but the whole entire event had to be delayed, by 4 freaking hours, because of what? Purely Mariah's tardiness. How do you even expect anyone to like Mariah after that. She didn't consider that other artists, dancers, musicians, hosts, producers, tech people, are on the show. They all had to adjust their schedules just to accommodate her delay. And that's honestly disappointing for someone who's been in the business for 24 years. So yeah Miley has her reasons. It's beyond Mariah's music.

Is it really decent or is it "Infamous" (66,897)
by Edward from USA
| |
|

I've listened to "Infamous" several times now. I consider it just a filler song, but not by Mariah standards. I love how Mariah beautifully and intelligently places those whistles to adorn the song though, the main highlight. It reminded me of Underneath The Stars and 4th Of July, something that I've missed. Jussie Smollett's voice sounds fine to me, but he turns into a dying screaming goat while being skinned alive when he's autoned to death on his very own T-Pain moment. Infamous is just half of the definition of the word Infamous thus being half a step up "Floppinity". The issue with most people is with the hype the created around it leading up to its release. They talked all sorts of stuff leading people on. Then when people get something that is not up to part with the hype and get disappointed, here comes the head of the Holy Inquisition, Sheila, that is, and her finger and a half of followers blasting on people's asses for daring to express their opinions. I'm not disappointed because I wasn't expecting anything out of this world. I'm just sad that she didn't use "Empire" as a means to actually put out a great record, that's what they led everybody to believe, so don't blame us for having expected that. She had lots of time to come with something better than that. I don't know if Mariah ran out of things to write about or maybe her muse has been on vacation for quite a while, but "Infamous" is just that, just another track. When I listen to it, I like it, when I don't, I don't miss it.

New song (66,896)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I long for a day when Mariah makes a song again where majority of the fans are on the same page and love it on the first listen. Like what happened when we heard WBT or ABMB or "Fantasy". I wsh we didn't have to try and make ourselves like a song just because it's released by Mariah. I've never really had to force myself to like a Mariah song before "Infinity". I even loved YME on first listen, I still love it. I mean to be honest I feel like all her efforts since 2015 have been weak and she doesn't sound like she is inspired. Saying "Infamous" is better than "Infinity" or "Why You Mad" is not enough. At this point you are just trying to justify her material by comparing it to songs that were not up to her standards (Infinity) and unfinished mess (Why You Mad), which really shouldn't be the way to go. (Side note, I'll say "Infinity" is better than "Infamous" because it's more memorable and catchier.) Mariah's benchmark should be the higher quality songs she has been making her whole life, her benchmark shouldn't be the "bare minimum quality" where we have to say "Oh well it's definitely better than Infinity". She should make songs that are either on the same level or above the level of her high quality songs. Also I feel like some of her recent songs kind of just sound like it ends abruptly. Is it just me or do others get it too? I mean you feel like it's going to build up to a bigger ending but instead it just abruptly stops, which makes it sound like she wasn't sure what to do next or just got bored or ran out of time so she stopped there. Here's to wishing she improves her next attempt at a lead single/album and chooses her collaborators wisely and uses them wisely too. For example #Beautiful was a step in the right direction. It was fresh, different Mariah yet classic Mariah, but she had such a small part on her own lead single and the song was too short. Then "Triumphant" (although I don't get the hate and I love it as it is) could have fared better if Mariah's part was longer and more prominent. So just choosing different collaborators won't work, she needs to utilize them properly too.

Rhianna and Beyonce are already experience waning sells. Rhianna gave Anti away for free and despite months of media domination and manipulation Lemonade barely sold a million copies. When Charmbracelet sold only a million copies it was considered a disappointment. Why is Mariah held to her past successes and her supposed successors not? FYI, Lemonade has only sold 1.2 million copies.

Re: Expectation - Estelle and Jussie's Conqueror (66,887) (66,892)
by RibbonB from USA

The original Empire soundtrack did pretty well as a compilation CD to accompany the runaway hit that the show was in it's first year. I think any new CD will have only moderate success as the show is waning and already jumped the shark last year in only its second season. Mariah's song will be a nice addition if they put one out this year. While Timbaland's music on the show was catchy, it was cheesy. I would never buy it, but a lot of kids did and I think those people are still very enamored with the show. I couldn't stand "Up Down" or "Drip Drop", but still remember them. Timbaland seemed to almost put parody music on the show. Lol. This year's music is not even catchy, IMO. "Conqueror" was not a great song to me, but it certainly filled a spot for the show and got Estelle a bit of interest. Mariah will bring her share of interest back to the show and get a little shine for herself in the process. But Hero was Hero and Mariah does not seem to be writing in that vein any longer. Jussie is a parody of a singer, so there is that.

Get real (66,891)
by Natalia from Italy

If you have to listen to a song over and over again to get yourself to like it, it's not a good song, plain and simple. Also, thank God some of us are realistic and honest about the music, just because she is a mega star, doesn't mean that every song she makes is golden. I will never be one of those people who blindly follow and praise everything she does. In fact, I don't consider myself a "lamb". I'm a human being with a brain, if something is not up to my standards I will speak on it. I love Mariah's good quality music, and always have, but I refuse to support anything, that falls way below the standard of greatness that I know she is capable of.

Its so nice. It reminds me of a K-Ci & JoJo track from the early 90's. It's so cool. I know I've seen some complaints that they want more, well you've had more, she's been giving music since 1990. Get over it and enjoy the new track and quit moaning.

I feel the song is OK. I don't loathe it or anything. I think it could have more movement musically and emotionally speaking and I feel the autotune on Jesse's vocals actually detracts from the song rather than elevating it further. With a title like "Infamous" and Empire being a drama series I just felt the song didn't really leave the impact it feels like it calls for. That's just how I felt after hearing it. But, "stabbing Mariah in the back" for feeling a song is just OK seems a little much to me.

Songbird supreme? (66,888)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
The song is just frickin' awful. Does the Songbird Supreme have anything left in her? The lambs may scream all they want but there is little evidence that anybody in Mariah's world has a clue what they are doing. But Mariah is to blame. It's her show, it's her ship. There's a reason the captain goes down with the ship: they're the one responsible for crashing the bloody thing. To me, that song shows that she holds her fans in contempt. It doesn't matter what we want. "Fudge you" is the message. "I like it" or "It's a grower" means "It's shit". No, the Beyhive and other artist's fanbases don't critticise this much. But hey have the luxury of not having the galactically messy artist that Mariah has become.

Expectation - Estelle and Jussie's Conqueror (66,887)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
When I heard it's going to be song about helping Jussie get his confidence back, I assumed it'll be a strong ballad. I also expected a strong chorus, something you can sing along to which lifts your spirit and give you goosebumps and then have a big climax. Basically I thought it would be great if it was in the line of this song by Estelle, which Jussie and Estelle sang on an episode of "Empire". A song like this written by Mariah could have been the next "Hero". Coming to "Infamous", I feel like this is basically the song Mariah talked about last year when she said she had written a song that she thought would go well for a scene between Lucious and Cookie but back then Lee wanted her to do an acting appearance. So I'm guess Mariah just reworked that same song (since it's less of an uplifting song and more of a romantic song) and then used it for this episode. I listened to the song a couple of times again today and I feel like I don't think it's bad as I thought it was, but it's still not sticking. I can honestly live with the song, but that auto tuned rap just makes me cringe every single time. Like Mariah would say "edit it out, edit it out".

Infamous (66,884)
by Musti from UK
| |
|
|
I've been listening to it today on repeat. It's not a bad track. I like the darker colours of her voice. The piano riff is quite catchy. I dismissed it yesterday because she hasn't covered any new ground here. It's an ok song but it will likely be a forgettable number in her repertoire. I won't take this as an indication of the new album's sound. Many people see her as not being creative anymore, which is funny for a woman who changed the scene not only with her album cuts but also her R&B and club remixes. I still think she's got that fire in her. I don't think anyone here wants her to go the David Guetta way but she can't continue to make "popular" music unless she reinvents her sound. Evolution of sound should come naturally for an artist of her calibre.

Now this is a very true statement Licia, "Fans like the Navy and the Beyhive are the reason the music industry has been flooded with so much crap music so I'm glad alot of Mariah fans are not anything like them." I do agree with Sheila that some fans seem to take delight in bashing Mariah, but just ignore those types. A lot of people have valid and well thought out opinions that go beyond bitterness and snark of "Mr. Brexit" or whomever. But that refrain about the Beehive and Navy is just so wack too, especially in light of the fact that they do often promote some of the worst music in generations. Mariah is trying to reach younger fans, while still holding true to her musical roots and interests, it will never please everyone. Lol.
