Re: Does Mariah get a double-standard? (66,329) (66,332) by RibbonB from USA
Perhaps because she held herself to a different standard. I don't check for those other ladies, but they get a lot of flack online too during awards shows or other trending events. But if you like it, then cool, many people are saying "yass queen", so why worry about those who don't at this moment in time? And Mariah is the one giving mixed signals, making many people wonder "are you ok Mimi?" I forgot, but early on one of the others' nick name was "JHo" and Brittany is lost in space for over a decade now and living under conservertorship, so maybe she gets sympathy for that alone. Lol.

That's a good question and I want to know the answer. Is it Stella?

Glitter debacle (66,330) by B from USA
Tommy sabotaged the Glitter era. Mariah was going to release the original Loverboy with the Firecraker sample as the first single and If We as the second. Glitter being a Columbia film allowed him access to the dailies and to the soundtrack. He knew Mariah had two massive hits on her hands. Knowing so he had Jennifer license the Firecracker sample and had Cory Rooney (who had worked with Mariah before) write the the album version of I'm Real. He probably played Corey the original version of Loverboy and said write Jennifer a song just like this. We all know Tommy called Ja and Irv and had them ripoff If We for the I'm Real remix. Ashanti unknowingly played a part in this. She sang the lead vocals on the demo versions of each song for Jenny to emulate. They weaved her vocals with Jennifer's. If you listen closely to these songs and the Ain't It Funny remix you can her Ashanti's vocals. She was not only exhausted from working on two movies, a soundtrack, and the end of her relationship with Luis. Obviously whoever stole her ideas and or concepts this time is a bigger star than Jennifer. I bet she was planning a surprise release for MIAMTEC but Beyonce beat her to it. The only other artist I think of is Alaniss Morisette. She re-released Jagged Little Pill with demos, new liner notes, and a live disc of her of her concerts (supposedly it also includes a DVD of the music videos released to promote the album).

Does Mariah get a double-standard? (66,329) by Sheila from United States
It's ok for Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Janet jackson to have a "sexy" era. To pose half nude or in a bra/panties pic and it's ok. But Mariah, it's not ok. Every women is due a sexual revolution, right? Why does everyone put Mariah through hell for posing sexy like Jennifer/Janet/Brit? Just does not seem right. Why do we hold Mariah to a different standard than those other ladies?

I'm pretty sure she doesn't. Mariah has had love for Agent Provocateur for ages now. I clearly remember her talking about their shoes back in the cribs episode where she said she has them in every color. The "slippers" according to Mariah hahah which were those delicate stilettos with matching pom poms. Then she even gifted Ellen some stuff from it back when she went there long time back.

I think we might start hearing about her faith again soon. Hopefully. I noticed she had a little cross on her neck on the pic with Rocky. Whatever is going on, I hope she gets back to some authenticity vs. all the stunts. Or at least pick better stunts with her and her children's well being in mind.

Re: Why so melodramatic? (66,318) (66,322) by Luke from United Kingdom
I get your points. Although other than fans not enjoying what she's doing, I haven't really seen her getting a bad rep in the press. As far as non fans are concerned she's been revealing since 2001. Even earlier if you want to count Butterfly. I think the thing is she's just not advertised that side of her on her social media accounts. She's always reserved it for album shoots, covers, performances. Compared to other celebs what she's doing is minimal. I think the reason it seems more tacky is because she's never been like this in things like Instagram. Had she been doing it for years most people probably wouldn't care. I do agree she could do with getting the pictures taken by someone older/more professional if that's the road she's going down. One thing I can agree with is why she's involving a 13 year old so much in those moments. Unfortunately she's been classed as a washed up diva for at least 5 years. If anything the comments about her being a diva have gotten less recently. I remember in about 2014 all I was reading in news articles or forums was how much of a self-absorbed diva she is, which I think was an effect of her divorce. That side of things seems to have died down now. I hope she plans to use Mariah's world to enlighten people about why she does the things does and who she really is.

Re: Why so melodramatic? (66,317) (66,321) by RibbonB from USA
You make some interesting points, but I think M. is already off trend and way off brand. It's like she embraced being a knockoff vs. the designer brand she has been. Knock offs only seem to do well on the streets. The Kardashians are their own cheap brand, being well promoted by the E-vil network, Lol. Mariah was already relevant and could be doing a reality show in conjunction with her tour, on a so much higher level. We shall see if it interests any new fans, while it turns off many old die hard fans. It is a gamble, whether it is her own or she is a big chip is yet to be known.

Cute pic with her son (66,320) by MusicfanJ from Germany
This is the Mariah I love. She looks so beautiful in it. This photo looks like it was taken in 98. Unbelievable. So once again we can see what less make-up can do for a beauty.

Re: Empire music (66,312) (66,319) by RibbonB from USA
I saw an Empire commercial yesterday and heard a snippet of a song that could have been by Mariah. If it was, it sounded pretty good. I will listen closely the next time I watch Fox. I think these new writers will be good for the show. Jerkins probably bringing the r&b and Dean the more hip hop flare. The music is just the backdrop. While watching Queen Sugar last night, I noticed they used Alabama Shakes' song "Gemini" as a co-star during the love scene with the fine Ralph Angel. Yummy. Lol. That show might become huge for their soundtrack like Empire did in it's first season. I hope Mariah's song on Empire gets a big spot and a big boost.

Re: Why so melodramatic? (66,317) (66,318) by Musti from UK
I don't deny the need to pull stunts to remain relevant. I also agree that today's industry is very visual and she can't effectively do the same promo today that she did for her earlier albums. Sexy is the easiest way to attract attention and she's a beautiful woman with a gorgeous body. However I think she's gone way beyond sexy. Most of the time it looks tacky and desperate. And she's taken the diva act to incredible heights over the years. When something continuously (and almost universally) gives you bad rep, why continue to do it? Instead of slipping into a sexy dress or doing professional shoots with eye-catching themes, she chooses to have diamond/splash/bra/(almost) nude moments with Mishka's shaky hands on the camera. It is miles beneath her. I probably wouldn't have minded if it was like this once in a while but this is all the time now. What most of us can't stomach is watching her do things that are damaging her and her career. I can never give up on the music. But I can't agree with the way she's currently trying to reignite public interest. It might be good promo for Mariah's World, but what good is it if she ends up destroying her reputation in the process? There will only so be many moments before she's forever known as a washed-up diva.

Why so melodramatic? (66,317) by Luke from United Kingdom
I understand where people are coming from when they say they're confused about Mariah's new actions involving social media/online persona but you need to lighten up a little. In my opinion it seems to me she's not taking it very seriously and she's having a little fun. I could be wrong and she could be on the path of a midlife crisis but I don't think that's what's happening. When she's not on camera or having pictures taking of her for social media (except for paparazzi) she lets herself go and wears clothes that are comfortable, some of which are completely the opposite of flattering because she doesn't care. Just like most of us would do if we were on holiday. Now it's different when she's doing things for Instagram/social media, she's over top because believe it or not she needs the attention to succeed in this day and age. She may have said she wouldn't do reality TV but that was a different time. This is a time where people want to know everything about celebrities and they want it fast. People feed off revealing shots and controversial images/videos. Look at Katie Hopkins, everyone hated her when she first came out but now she has a massive following. She knew how to be controversial and how to stir it up. Mariah is playing a game in a world which is highly visual compared to 5-10 years ago and I think she's playing it well. She isn't going to get another hit record playing it safe like Celine Dion. It may be shocking to her fans because we know what she's been like in the past but for people who don't follow her yet this might reel them in and they'll find her entertaining. Times have changed, she's changing with it and I'm hopping along for the ride because lifes too short to take this stuff seriously.

Re: Mariah Carey (66,308) (66,316) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I don't really know what to say about the vision situation, different people, different believes but one thing I will say is damn right Mariah deserves the Grammies to be renamed "Mariah Carey Awards" because this woman has single handedly paved the way for so many current stars and been inspiration. I have never heard the term "the new" for any other artist as much as I've heard people say "the new Mariah" and yet the Grammies paid her dust. It's disgusting really.

It's bad enough what he's doing to his sister, but why does he need to bring her children into this? They can't defend themselves against him or his allegations and he needs to leave them out of it. If it were me and he had brought my children into some mess, Morgan would definitely need to be in hiding.

Those remixes made me give Memoirs another shot. I was bummed when they shelved the album because the remixes that I heard were awesome. I'm probably the only fan who will never get tired of the JD/Mariah combo. They are like Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis to me. They just fit together. Lol I agree JD knows how to turn a slow jam/ballad to a great uptempo.

I'm hoping Esther and Rodney can bring what Timbaland brought to the Empire soundtrack. If Mariah does do a Neyo song I hope it's a smooth rnb song like he used to do in the beginning of his career and not a dance track. Although I get that people love dance or emd (is that what it's called? lol) I'm not a fan.

Edward once again you said it perfectly, the way a lot of us feel. It's good to know I'm not the only one who is confused. And of course I'm not aware what's really going on in her life, but if you "follow" Mariah and her music over 21 years you can tell there's a kind of sadness in her eyes. Marylin Monroe and Hollywood-stardom aren't a good role-model for happiness.

Was that her last real remix? It's sad it kind of went unnoticed. I like when she starts belting at the end. I wish she would have done more of it throughout the song but I still like it. I know some people are tired of Jermaine but I love how good he is at making a ballad a hot uptempo. They should have made a video for this version instead.

Mariah Carey (66,308) by Terna from Nigeria
I've been pondering sharing this with you guys. But I said what the heck you're family, and the common denominator is our unrelenting love for Mariah. Hope I don't come across as weird. In 2009 I had a strange vision sometime in October about her. I would say it was a vision because if you've ever had one of those happen to you, you're not asleep, totally aware of your surroundings and it's like suddenly the room dims up and it's like a film projector styled plays while you watch. In the vision there was a boy and girl with Mariah, they were at an award show on stage and on closer observation it was the Grammies. And right there on the presentation podium were Grammies with Mariah's name on them. It seemed weird because in real life she lost all those Grammies but in the vision it was a controversy that had been exposed that the recording academy on purpose gave all her Grammy wins away and that she had won every single time. It was all over the news, so this was the apology officially to Mariah Carey presenting her with all the trophies, over 20 Grammies. But Mariah simply signaled to the girl who in turn picked up the tray of Grammies and seemingly emptied them into a shredding machine and they were shredded like paper. Then Mariah with a very booming voice to the audience who were in total shock and speechless then slammed down a golden statue speaking just a few words "Presenting The Mariah Carey award". She then turned around and gracefully walked away hand in hand with the boy and girl in tow. And the I looked at the statue. It was a golden statue of The Emancipation Of Mimi album cover. Mariah had just basically changed the Grammies to the Mariah Careys. I was puzzled. Still am.
