But it doesn't mean the video was great. I can't elaborate why but I can tell that it isn't beautifully crafted. The usage of random photos of cars and boats in the part of "why you tryin to play like you're so grown" alone is a no no. I only like the "infinity"/purple parts but the rest looks patchy. This is one example of a well executed lyric video.

Ok this will be my last post on this topic (before I continue I just want to say despite varied viewpoints on her vocals I really do absolutely adore Mariah's performance that night). I'm well aware Mariah held back and stayed in the background out of respect for Aretha. I have seen all the interviews about it and I don't take what she says as a huge slam or bash against Celine. I have always taken it as Mariah stating her views, her opinion on the approach to singing with a legend period. Mariah and Celine had different approaches to the same thing. Why shouldn't that be ok? I have never understood this in relation to this discussion. It doesn't make one person right and the other wrong. MC is not wrong for choosing to hang back, and Celine isn't wrong for singing a couple riffs. It's not like she took over the whole song and it clearly wasn't planned out. A huge part of performing is what comes out right there in the moment with passion and heart.

You're obviously in denial and delusional to not see Celine was definitely trying to take the spotlight and out do Aretha. When I first saw "Divas live" I said said to myself, "Sit down Celine you look like a fool." "Best believe you wouldn't have tried that with Patti." She would have shut you down easily." Haha. Mariah was the real star that shined that night. The "Make it happen" performance was amazing and probably one of the best performances of the song. She looked iconic and legendary.

"Top notch producers and songwriters"? Didn't her latest album flop? Rihanna isn't a real artist or singer. She doesn't have one iconic, legendary song in her whole entire catalog that will be remembered 20 years from now. No legacy no influence. I'm done.

Yes the show was a bit dubbed. There's a video of The Reason on YouTube in which Carole King almost ruins the song because she's outta key. Anyway Mariah's performances on that show are among my favourites of her career. Her stage presence, her voice, the hair everything.

Isn't "Eye of Horus" and the pentagram the symbols of the Illuminati? Or has the Illuminati and Scientology merged now? I don't think Stella is involved with these though, she is just a wanna be Kardashian who is trying to get some fame at Mariah's expense. Expense includes monetary situation too. That and a bad influence for Mariah and her kids. Plus isn't Nick deeply religious? How can he be involved with Scientology?

So I guess nobody here has figured this out yet but it's pretty glaringly obvious. Mariah's Scientology minder is Stella, previously it was Nick Cannon who came out of the whole [censored] Nicolodeon realm. I could go back further into the whole history but let's save that for another time. Interesting that Stella is so above board about sporting her Eye Of Horus ring, and pentagram necklaces. Hollywood is really in the toilet. Do some research, it's not rocket science.

Haha, thanks for the reply, Deedre. I can always count on you for a fair opinion. I've watched Divas Live 1998 plenty of times. It was a great concert for a great cause. This idea that Celine was trying to make it about her by letting fly with a few riffs is ridiculous. Talk about creating drama out of nothing. Even Carole and Randy's commentary back that up. Anyway, I've spent too much time on this already.

To me this is all just a bunch of much "ado about nothing". I just got done watching a bunch of videos (before I saw your post Nikki) from Divas Live and I gotta tell you, it looked like Celine was just having fun during Natural Woman (and especially during Testimony). She's back there dancing with Shania, Carole with Gloria, all having a good time. Honestly, I don't get why some are getting worked up over drama that IMO just isn't there. They all were on stage having a good time. If Mariah held back because she deemed such a choice respectful of Aretha, then fine. That's her opinion and choice. It doesn't make Celine disrespectful for choosing to enjoy the moment by letting a few notes fly. Aretha had more than enough solo time. Please. This whole notion is so unfounded. Peace.

What would (When) I Feel It replace (62,806)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

Remember (When) I Feel It? The gorgeous soulful 70's track that didn't unfortunately failed to make the final tracklist of TEOM due to the sample of The Dynamic Superiors' Here Comes That Feeling Again being revoked at the last minute? I personally feel that it is much stronger than some tracks on the album and would have made TEOM a stronger set. Let's say this problem never existed - if you were to choose which track it would replace on the said album, what would it be and why? Choices: A) Because. B) None, TEOM is perfectly fine as it is. C) Why on earth should we stick to 14 tracks? Make it the 15th, or at least include it on the re-release, dammit.

About "Change [sic] of fools". I remember watching it on VH1 in 98, and Mariah's voice did crack, but on the dvd-version it's perfect. Someone has done something. Anyway, I love the show, but I agree with you about the Divas Live 96 [sic]. I used to dream about that.

Here we go again with putting other artists down because they're a thread to Mariah's records (which most people don't even know about frankly). The reason why Mariah flopped in the 2000s and couldn't get as many #1s like she did in the 1990s is because she made music that wasn't good and wasn't trending (huge mistake). Mariah also had the "I don't want to sing other people's songs" mentality and her ideas starting running out which is why we got Rainbow, Glitter, and Charbracelet. Imagine if she was working with Timbaland, Pharrell, etc. She could have gotten like 8 more #1s in the early 2000s. Rihanna, however, works with top notch producers and songwriters that know how to make currently trending hit songs. She follows trends and is always up to date. She's only 28 and her fame is at it's highest point right now. She is not going anywhere for at least 10 more years and you can expect her to at least get 10 more #1s.

Anthony, I left my email address here a while back, if you have whatsapp and want to, message me. Did I mention I was born in Wales? Hah. Regardless, don't let people on here affect how you think of yourself in respect of Mariah. The Truth isn't some angry little Eminem avatar, it's what you want it to be. As long as it agrees with mine. Then it's all good.
