Re: Paradox of the charts (57,648) (57,657) by Manny from U.S.
I brought up this diva thing because of the interview she gave. I did notice at the Macau performance, she told the photographers to take pictures of the other side. I thought to myself, "Come on girl, focus on the singing." Was that being a diva? I've had discussions with my friends and my ex. They tell me they used to buy her records until she became a big diva. I'm not here to talk bad about Mariah. I'm only stating what my friends say. I can't wait to see her in February.

Vocalist renaissance? (57,652) (57,656) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
Lest we forget davidf, MIAMTEC was sabotaged (shout out to Glitter). Granted the accidental fall of epic injury did its worst first but the leaking of the title and constant push backs was not a normal Mariah thing. Her usual rollout is complete and utter silence until she has an actual album rearing to go. It has become obvious in hindsight that there were people in her camp messing with her album marketing. For instance all those articles mentioning a surprise album, like who is dumb enough to talk about a surprise album release, thereby ruining the surprise? That's not stupidity (well, not only). That's called sabotage. It's howcome a hardcore Lamb, a.k.a. me, didn't even register that her album dropped for real until late last summer. I was on a ranch though not entirely off grid, I just had an insanely busy spring-summer. I just assumed there would be bigger fanfare in mainstream media, ads etc, once her album actually dropped. I mean, I caught elevator-gate on the same day it happened but I completely missed MIAMTEC. All of this was to say that I agree largely with your prediction on Adele's success being a blessing because she is a true vocalist and not just a lipsynching machine, just like Mariah. The Art Of Letting Go sounds like Hello the same way Loving You sounds like Bliss. The inspiration obviously is the former artist. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the rise of the vocalists. Mediocrity has made mainstream music unbearable for no reason at all and I am so ready for the tide to turn In Mariah's favour.

Loverboy (57,655) by B from USA
I refuse to judge Loverboy based on the version that was rush released. I want to hear the original version with the Firecracker sample.

Mariah (57,654) by B from USA
Mariah Carey ranking at No. 9 on the annual list of the top-earning women in music in 2015, her twentyfifth year in the industry, is amazing. She's still making bank and she's showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

The art of letting go (57,652) by David F from Mexico
I agree with you T.H from Lebanon this song is a masterpiece I love the intro so much and the middle part plus the choruses and imagine the process of it, nobody would ever show MC how to make a song she has that X-Factor a secret place in her mind where she gets all the feelings to create raw songs Adele is a vocalist might mean that people start to pay attention to talent and why not is time for Mariah to pull something and start belting out too time for the divas is coming again.

Ditto on Loverboy being silly and campy. I believe the track was deliberately constructed to sound that way and was not really meant to sound sexy. Look at how it was used in the movie - almost comical. Heck, even the video is so ridiculously over the top that I won't be surprised if it was some sort of parody of the race scene from Grease or similarly-themed movie clips / music videos. It's one of her weakest lead singles to date but definitely not the worst. And yeah, I hope the original mix surfaces one day.

Mariah makes $27 million (57,650) by Travon..SweetSweetFantasy from USA
The fact that Mariah made this much money without much promo and no music releases, shows how much she is wanted. Vegas has not paid her 15 million yet. It has just crossed close to 16 million is grossing sales. Just saying. It's not even Christmas yet and she is making bank. Way to go Mariah Carey.

Re: Paradox of the charts (57,643) (57,648) by May from Denmark
I've always felt Mariah's fame about her diva antics were mere constructions by the gossip media and while to some extent it was ok I think it blew up out of proportions. My life partner once commented to me "your idol can't sing anymore", err, he doesn't even listen to her and knows nothing about her music, except the bits he heard sometimes when I put her music on, so how will he even know? And that comment was one of the many headlines he sees on the net randomly when something not so good happens with Mariah, so he has been fed only negative stuff about her and jumps in the wagon. Not in a mean way, he just thinks he is "informing" me haha, he knows I love Mariah. Like my partner in life, there are many who believe the lies published. I also don't understand why she often gets bashed by the sexiness thing, as if other's didn't. Cher with her current age still wears see through stuff, barely covered with sequins on stage, and out of stage she still shows legs, wears mini skirts and frequently flashes her "tatas" with low cuts, don't mind them, they look great haha. The weight bashing hits all artists it seems, still recall how much they bashed Aguilera when she gained some weight but the more they talked the skimpier her outfits got haha, loved how she didn't care. Even Adele got the weight slap and she lost a considerable amount. I personally don't care if Mariah doesn't get another number one, of course I would love it because it would make her untouchable hehe but I much rather like if she had a big success again, a new big second come back. With something that could keep people talking for a long time. Maybe create another classic like "Make it happen". To me "Shake it off" should have been number 1. I see her creating something awesome like that again, not sure if for number 1 but definitely top 10 chart. I honestly would feel just happy with a come back. Right now I'm just enjoying her movie moves.

Of course nothing compares to the original. I almost forgot how amazing she was on here. I miss this Mariah, the girl who writes these beautiful songs with tender melodies and loving words. I love when she gets all soft and pink on us. I hope Packer is flourishing some beauty within her to write a great love song.

I agree with Manny about the charts. But I have one problem: how it is that other artists do much worse than Mariah and gets praised, yet [censored] complain about Mimi's diva antics?

I always loved this song. It's so pop and hip-hop. I wonder what the original one was going to sound like. I actually really like the entire Glitter soundtrack.

Paradox of the charts (57,643) by Manny from U.S.
I can't helped to noticed this paradox of the music charts. Well, at least how it's implied on this message board. We just hate how certain artists can still be on the charts (Ariana) who does not deserve it with her boring music. It seems we discredit the charts and feel they're not credible. Yet, we want Mariah to get more number ones. I enjoy Mariah's music no matter what now. I'm not waiting for another number one. I listen to Mariah because I enjoy her voice. I do have to say that Mariah's popularity has been down because of her diva antics. My friends say she's the biggest diva, and she always has to dress sexy, wearing sizes too small. That's the biggest complaint about her. She recently said she'll always be a diva, to the point they do her hair and make up while directing. So there you have it. Old habits die hard.

The art of letting go (57,642) by Giovanni from USA
Is still one of Mariah's most personal songs ever. And one of my favorites. The lyrics, melody and chorus are perfect. I always thought the song deserved a video. Hopefully Mariah writes amazing lyrics for her next album.

Can't nobody tell me nothing about this gem. I remember being embarrassed for her when it first came out, I wanted my beautiful innocent Mariah. But I've definitely grown to appreciate this over the years. I totally love it, it's so ridiculously silly and campy. It's her having a good time, along the lines of re-Christmas-ing in February and not give a flying f*ck who has an opinion about it. The song is so fun and bouncy, I love it. I need a new stuff is starting now moment. Hurry babe.

Re: Mariah and the Adele debate (57,634) (57,639) by May from Denmark
It's a good point regarding the late songs having something too over the top. Her music always had lots of layers, that's what makes Mariah, even layering herself as part of the chorus or creating a whole chorus just out of her voice. The difference is that before used to be subtle. The most subtle I can think of is the album Daydream, where most of her songs felt like just her voice flowing and simple music in the background, being dominated by a piano. Now at days her music has too much production, some of her songs feel like they are filled with stuff, bells, rings, electronic sounds, a male voice repeating a word or two in the background, lots of chorus here and there, effects, auto tunes, this, that. I think it would be wise to put some of the stuff out, not everything can fit in a song. I felt this particularly with "Supernatural", which itself is a beautiful songs, but somewhere along it was too much.

Re: Single release strategy / Hello (57,629) (57,638) by JC from USA
I completely disagree. I find it ridiculous that a lot of lambs attempt to compare Mariah to whatever song is really hot right now. "Hello" and "The Art of Letting Go" are nothing letting go. Mariah doesn't even belt until 2:57, where she kills it. "Hello" has much more simplistic lyrics, and surprisingly, a lot more melisma.

Sorry, Ariana, but I don't think anyone was asking for Problem 2.0. Lightning don't strike the same place twice. Especially not with Adele around.

Re: Single release strategy / Hello (57,629) (57,636) by darrian liu from taiwan
Fortunately TAOLG is that type of track that has classic timeless vibes so if ever Mariah realized TAOLG's full potential, she could easily rewrite its chorus. Still crossing fingers that she would do that.

Bad Blood yet again (57,635) by Lee TS from USA
A diva needs protection at all times. Why Selena? I bet Mariah's feeling really insecure right now. But seriously though, just for laughs.

Mariah and the Adele debate (57,634) by Myles from CT, USA
Honestly I love Adele. I love her lyrics and the emotions in her voice. I am just going to add my two cents on why Mariah's recent songs are not translating well on radio. I feel like the productions of Mariah's latest songs are just too much. Don't get me wrong, I love Cry, I love One More Try and I did like TAOLG. The problem with her recent releases is that there is so much vocal layering that it sounds messy at times. Just like the last chorus of IWTKWLI, it is way too much. I want to hear Mariah and a simple production with minimal or no vocal stacking. Mariah your voice, whether some say is broken or not, is still full of emotion and still beautiful. Less is more.

That YouTube channel is great, thanks for sharing. I never knew of the whistles in AIWFCIY. Amazing. No artist ever perpetually surprises me as much as Mariah. Her music is honestly inexhaustible. No matter how many times I have played a song, and I have literally played AIWFCIY thousands and thousands and thousands of times since 1994, the fact that I still discover nuances within a song I thought I knew inside out is just brilliant. What a gift MC has. What musicality she was gifted with. I am forever grateful to her for sharing her gift with us.
