Ugh (58,341)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

This picture is straight out of 2005. Like how does this woman stay so gorgeous. I love this dress that she has been wearing to the show, along with the sexy red number. The gold dress just hugs her and let's go at the perfect places. Her hair is perfection. That skin is flawless. Like girl bye, I can't deal with these high standards of beauty she is setting. The woman doesn't age. She is looking better than ever with each passing day but what is adding to her beauty the most is that she looks like she is finally happy and free in some way. I said this before, and I will say it again, she better get a music video done real soon and release it to rub it on people's faces. Plus can we please get started on the much delayed photo shoots. Where are the magazine covers yet? Stella, when are we getting a glimpse of the MAC photo shoot boo?

Thanks for the welcome (58,337)
by Michael from UK

To the people who welcomed me and also upvoted my post, thank you very much for your kindness and solidarity. I do not intend to be a negative presence, and to be honest I feel a bit embarrassed about how upset I allowed certain people to get me. I agree with those who said we should focus on the spirit of Christmas, that is what I'll do. Mariah killed it in the Beacon videos I've seen, it's just another example to the people that count her out. For every bad day, she has awesome days. I will hold her to the same standard to which I hold myself, I'm human and that's ok. Merry Christmas everyone.

I'm so tired of people complaining because Mariah lips a few notes. She's human and every artist in the industry has done it. Saying she hasn't had a decent vocal performance since 1996 is insane.

Mariah sounds amazing. Her vocals are on point, her hapiness shines trough. I just dont understand how some still say she wasnt all that great. The problem (and I've said it before on this board) is that people are stuck on the recorded versions and on the 90's. She sounds flawless. Just take it as it is and leave the rest.

This hip-hop dance troop is amazing in seven kinds of stuffing. I especially can't believe I've never heard this innovative remix before but it might be very local seeing as all parties involved are likely based in South Korea. Not surprising since that's a big market for MiMi. Lambs are so creative, I wish we had an even bigger sense of community and ability to reach out to each other. These language barriers suck tbh. But whatever, enjoy the clip and Merry Christmas Lambily.

Wow, that was the best performance I've seen her do since 2013. She completely slayed. But of course the gp will harp on the Rockefeller performance from last year. Oh well, at least the lambily knows how good it was.

This is amazing. This is probably her best performance of this song in years, and the top it off she's strutting around that stage while throwing those notes there's no tomorrow.

She was exhausted here. You can tell by the way she's talking. No wonder her guard was down. One the one hand, it's good to see her so relatable. On the other hand, if you know why she is that way it's worrisome.

Beacon performance of AIWFC (58,327)
by Martyn from England, UK
| |
|
|
Cannot believe how good Mariah is sounding here. One of her best performances of AIWFC in years. Such a shame she hasn't pulled it out of the bag like this at a big scale event where the media spotlight is on her and we get a televised recording. Oh, and to those who were getting angry of me for criticising her performance with Busta Rhymes a few days ago, this is what I was talking about. I will always point out when Mariah does well, I'm just not deluded enough to think her vocals are consistently good nowadays.

Randy, you say that "there are hardly any trustworthy receipts outside of the studio after 1997". I find this to be a huge exaggeration. First of all, I don't think that Mariah has the obligation to address anything that may have happened pertaining to her voice or any other fact that may have affected her voice, not to the fans, not to anyone. Not right now anyway. Secondly, I really can't understand how a person who is a fan either of Mariah or of vocalists in general cannot appreciate Mariah's vocals after her so-called prime. I'm in no way neglecting her shortcomings as a live performer, not so much vocally, but in terms of taking chances or being more experimental musically. Personally, I see a continual evolution in terms of vocals, studio or live. The woman is a vocal prodigy, and still a powerhouse. Just listen to any "Thank God I Found You" performances this year. Also, you wouldn't have Miss Powerhouse herself Patti Labelle saying that "Mariah can sing her face off" if she really couldn't do it. Whitney also said that "Mariah, I tell, she can go... she's a hell of a vocalist." Did you ever see her throw shade to MC in terms of vocals? Hell no, because as a singer she got it. The real problem for me, the real issue, which again I can't understand why Mariah does it, is her insistence on duplicating the recordings to the T, hence her "need" to lip specific vocals. Take the 2013 live in Central Park for example. She did "My All" perfectly, without lipping the usual opening line. She could just slow down the pace of certain songs and that would be it. Some songs are just not realistically performed the way they are recorded. That's why although I adore the second Christmas album, it's downside is the instances of bad comping (stitching good parts together). Vocalists need time for breathing. As long as Mariah performs within the idiom of contemporary "popular" music that might be a problem. The moment the setting changes and becomes more improvisatory (see Carlyle 2012), there is a drastic change in vocals. There you see the full, present gorgeousness of her instrument. And don't forget the 2012 Australian tour. Fantastic vocals. Mariah grows still as a vocalist. The main issue is industry techniques that she no doubt learned next to Tommy. It's the unrealistic standards that are put on pop performers, not musicians. Mariah falls in between. She still has the musicianship, but she also has to cover the industry (and public's) expectations. She could tomorrow rearrange her ballads or uptempos and blow you. Also, don't discount the crippling stage fright that apparently had, lost and reacquired. Say what you will, but don't say that Mariah has not offered moment of stunning vocals after 1997. And I'm not talking once a year. And trust me, as a person who adores legendary vocalists like Sarah Vaughan, Whitney, Ella, Aretha and so on, my standards are very high.

Randy's posts / Mariah's voice (58,321)
by Giselle UrbanPoshBeauty from US of A

When I visit this site I feel like I've traveled back 10 years. I'm so over all these posts debating everyone of her performances. Yes, her voice has changed we all know that. It's time for most of you to finally move on. Honestly, I'm tired of all the talk. I like Randy's posts and I can tell he loves Mariah and and has studied her for years. Andrew, I believe is a troll. I believe he loves Mariah but at the same time some of you are so easy to wind up and live in Dreamville (lol) that its fun to provoke some of you. I should know, since I used to do it lol. Some of you really need to move on, her voice has changed and at this time until she's ready to be real with us we will never know what happened. I don't think anything "tragic" happened. She sounded amazing in during the Glitter/Charmbracelet era. She also sounded amazing during the Mimi era and again around 2010 during her pregnancy. I know exactly the one thing that has messed with her, Im not going to say it, I've said it way too many times. She sounded good her first night and I'll always ride with her through the good and bad. I cried reading the impact of AIWFCIY, I can accept that she probably will never go to #1. I would love if AIWFCIY to finally hit #1. To think in 1994 she was just hoping her Christmas music would be around for years and it has and will forever be here when we're all gone. Yo go Mariah. love her.

I agree something happened to her between Rainbow and Butterfly. While the Saturday Night Live performance of Butterfly was beautiful it's a lot of smoke and mirrors vocally.

Robby, Andrew, webmaster and others (58,318)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
Let me start off by saying this. I am a fan. I love MC. Her music has really helped me through some rough times. I don't think a lot of you really could understand that looking at my posts. It takes time out of my life to check and see what she's doing and where she's performing and to be on this site. I am not hating on her. But I am frustrated. I am convinced something traumatic happened after that 1996 Tokyo Dome performance and before the 1997 Oprah performance that was never addressed and as a fan all I have gotten is trickery and deceit. MC has never acted like anything happened because her so called real fans, or lambs, defend her with excuses at all costs as if they are a bunch of Annalise Keatings. But for someone who is considered by many to be the best vocalist in the world, there are hardly any trustworthy receipts outside of the studio after 1997, except a brief period after the Glitter meltdown, the impromptu for the fans at Jimmy Fallon, and that wonderful duet with John Legend in 2005. I know this because I know every US live performance because I am a fan. I don't go into performances looking to criticize her and I don't want to hate on her. I want the real truth about what happened between 1996 and 1997. No one can do what MC can do as far as crafting a song or an album, lyrically or vocally in the studio. But vocally the magic is left in the studio and to me that's fraud. As far as Andrew. I do think he is harsh and comes off sometimes as hating MC, however, he is entitled to his opinion since he is on a MC messageboard and has a very knowledgeable base of her work and live performances. The webmaster allows us here to provide a difference of opinion. I wish so much that some of you could spend the day in Atlanta with me while I prove my case about deceit, smoke and mirrors, trickery and fraud on stage. I can also prove that other singers have held on to their voices longer than she has been out and that their songs are just as difficult to sing. I can also flip the script and use her lyricism and her studio vocals to prove she is the greatest all around recording artist of all time.
