I like your suggestion. Fly Like A Bird really is one of her best songs. The song really is like a spiritual experience. My pick would be trading in Honey - although I love - with a moodier uptempo like The Roof. If would flow in her concert, singing it back to back with My All. Which leads me to my next question. Which one of Mariah's hits that she performs would you like for her to completely revamp the melody and vocals? I love what she did with TGIFU. I always preferred the classic remix but the Vegas revamp made me appreciate the song and love that version.

Article: It's time we embrace the Mariah Carey that is (58,476)

This is a great article. It's nice when fans can be honest and try to suppress their biases for a while to acknowledge that Mariah's earlier music verged on bland fair, and that her voice cannot reach the stratospheric heights it has before. Another great artist I believe I could compare Mariah to is Lisa Stansfield. Just like her, she had this rich, instantly recognizable tone. Heck, she came out just about the same time Mariah did (several months earlier) and lost to Mariah at the Grammys for Best New Artist. When she came back with Face Up in 2001, it was evident that her voice wasn't as elastic as it used to be, but she still sounded great. Listening to her today, her voice has aged even more, and just like Mariah, can no longer replicate her studio vocals in her live performances. Lisa had smoking, Mariah had stress and drinking. But both still sound great and while they may not belt out or riff cascades as easily as today's younger singers, their respective vocal tones alone are undeniable and more than enough to school the wannabes.

While the article specifically talks about music in the malls (it actually depends which article) the title is very misleading. The "DailyFail" was worst, it posted the infamous Rockefeller video at the end rather than an actual one from her current Beacon performance.

I'd swap Always Be My Baby for The Roof. I like Always Be My Baby but I'm not too keen on how they perform it live. That sneak of The Roof she gave at Jimmy Kimmel was bliss, I don't know why she doesn't do those kinda songs more.

Mariah and her legacy (58,472)
by Jono from USA

I don't think it's a bad thing that Mariah is doing her throwback classics, and possibly opening a museum. I'd totally attend. A museum would be amazing because casual tourists who are curious could come in, and if the exhibit is done well it could really educate them on Mariah's contributions and all that she's achieved in the music industry. Because Lord knows most of these people treat the Grammys as some holy grail and think that just because Mariah constantly gets snubbed, she must not be important. This could expose her work on her terms, as opposed to the press (who also love to slander Mariah). Maybe I just think differently for someone born in the 90s, but I hate most of pop music that's out nowadays and I don't care if Mariah stays away from trends because it would sacrifice her artistic integrity. As someone like Adele proved, if she can just be herself you can still find a market where you're appreciated it. Just because Mariah is doing a museum doesn't mean she's done for. Taylor Swift has one, and she's only 26. So I think it's just a cool interactive space to showcase Mariah and I think it could only be positive.

If true I actually think it would be cool. Mariah is such a huge contributor to music history, yet the general public is still unaware (for the most part) of her efforts. Especially behind the scenes. And maybe she'd decide to put Marilyn's piano there. She's talked of that for ages. Museums don't necessarily mean tacky. They can be tastefully done in honor of the artist and the fans. One of my favorite Latin American singers, Selena Quintanilla has one that was opened after her passing with all proceeds going to her foundation. Granted the circumstances are different, but it can be done in a classy way.

Survey question for the lambs (58,469)

(Inspired by Giselle's post.) What is one song that Mariah performs frequently that you would like to replace with a lesser performed song? I would trade Hero for Fly Like A Bird. Hero's a beautiful song but I think it's boring compared to the other gems MC has in her catalog.

Just goes to show you how much the media loves to knock Mariah down. Mariah kills it at the Beacon show and shuts her haters up, barely any press. Mariah is "dethroned" because apparently a playlist has stated that Mariah is now "only" the #2 played Christmas song (after 20 years) and every major news outlet plays out. Mariah is losing weight, has moved on from Nick, is still an outstanding mother, and her voice is improving. They're getting desperate for some negativity.

December 14 at the Beacon Theatre (58,466)

Hi Lambs. The good news: it's still a beautiful show and Mariah is still doing her thing on that stage. I love her to pieces, but the experience was ruined for me by the audience members. At first, when the curtains pulled back to reveal Mariah in all her diva glory and "Hark. The Herald Angels Sing" began, I was only too happy to get up and get on my feet along with the entire orchestra section to pay homage to Miss Mariah Carey, my favorite of favorites. I was also happy to be on my feet for "Oh Santa" so I could bounce along to the infectious bass line. The kids on stage were "werking" it. They were so adorable and talented, and of course, everyone on stage and offstage from the ever present trio of Trey and company, to the band and her musical director, to the production and set designers, the stage hands... you get the idea. It takes a village to mount a professional production in a world class theater. The bad news: people in the orchestra section refused to sit down. If you happened to get tickets in that section, you had no choice but to be on your feet for the entirety of the show to even see anything. And I stand 6'1" sans heels. I don't understand why we had to be on our feet at the Beacon theatre mosh pit to enjoy "Silent Night", "Oh Holy Night", "Christmas Time is in the Air Again" and other such gems. Maybe it was because I've had an exhausting day, and a draining week, but I was unable to stand more than halfway through the "intimate" show. It went sour for me very quickly especially when I noticed that three of the people directly in front of me had their camera phones out and clearly did not give a flaming $h*# about the people behind them. They were filming it or live streaming it - you know, for the people who did not pay to enjoy a live performance. Great. I guess I could sit down now in my orchestra seat and watch the videos that people like them would upload. Next time, I'll watch Mariah from the comfort of home. Thank goodness she is doing a Hallmark movie that I can enjoy on my couch, or this Beacon night of joy and festivity show would have ruined my holiday.

[...] I really hope Stella, you give Mariah this article to read. I've been saying this for a long time now. Mariah is slowly turning herself into Diana Ross. In fact it's like a running joke on social media especially Christmas time AIWFCIY. Now, she clearly wants it "Queen of Christmas". No Mimi, no. From the Vegas setlist to her performing VOL on BMA. She's turning herself into a "classics" artists and that's why it's hard for people to stop comparing her to her former self. I'd really love if she would go through her ''classics box'' and play some of the lesser known fan favorites. I'm so done with Hero, WBT, SIO, Heartbreaker, Dreamlover and Fantasy(Remix). Also, Mariah for the love of fashion, hire a new stylist. I'm not going to lie, you answered my Lambily prayers with the all black you wore this past week it's getting better. I even love your holiday outfits but you can tell how I'm "a crazy fan" when I know that white dress with the diamonds on it is from your closet from yesteryear you wore it before LMAO magazine. You're Mariah Carey please hire a new stylist. The whole going out with a scarf on in the rain/cold, call up Basso and get you a fierce faux fur coat and bring it. This whole "I'm a world class diva" but I dress like a rich stay at home mom from Jersey "new money" is getting played out. Also for the good, tou been looking gorgeous, you look like a golden Malibu Barbie.

I love this idea. If the traveling shrine to MC came through my town, I would totally pay into that. I wonder how much a ticket would go for to get into something like that?

Such a misleading article. The media is running with this without bothering to actually understand that it is a claim made by the company that programs the music that is heard in malls and doesn't reflect sales or airplay.

First row is €270 here in the Netherlands. I got my regular price tickets (the friends I'm going with would never agree to the other prices), but on the 8th row from the stage so that's not too bad. A friend of mine handles promotions for the venue so maybe he'll be able to arrange something extra.

Though she's not coming to Greece (not that I ever thought she would, but anyway), I'm beyond excited that Mariah is finally touring Europe. I'm considering going to Italy to catch the show there. Anyone else planning to go there? Also, can we book the tickets now from, say, ticketmaster or only from Marah's website? I'm a little confused due to the rush. Wish I could buy the VIP meet and greet package but 500 euro/dollars is way too expensive. 160 euro is for front seats? Ugh, I'm confused.
