Johnathan, when I first joined this post less than 2 years ago, I reflected on how I could relate to Mariah in regards to hiding insecurities. I became a fan of Mariah's not because she could sing, that was a given. I became a fan because she used her insecurities and turned them into something I could relate to and understand. Mariah does what insecure people such as myself do: we like to hide the fact that we lack confidence. In her profession she doesn't always have a choice like I do to hide and regain confidence. She is in the spotlight 24/7 and her insecurities are attacked regularly. I couldn't imagine living the way she deals with it. Opening up is not enough. Changing ways is not enough. Nothing is enough. There is no healing to insecurities because they affect the inner feelings of the soul everyday. However there are ways of dealing with it to prevent a breakdown or collapse from stress. Surrounding yourself with people who will embrace you is a must. People unfortunately call them yes men with Mariah. Also, having an elusive attitude towards your persona that embodies yourself is a must. This development is meant to embrace feelings while providing proper healing within their own time. Mariah does this well and really takes her time. The most important thing of dealing with insecurities is trust. I don't believe Mariah trusts the public enough to overshare. I listen to her music to teach me how she feels.

"So just because this is a Mariah Carey messageboard we can't post about other music artists? Baby please get out of 'Dreamville' and come back to earth. You get weirder and weirder with each post. Adele is here to stay so get over it." I'm surprised you can admit that this is a Mariah Carey messageboard. So kudos to you. But, the only one of us that gets weirder and weirder is you Giovanni. What kind of person goes on a messageboard, catering to one very specific artist's fandom, only to engage in incessant talks and promo about a completely different performers and thinks that fans of the artist whom the messageboard is about won't be find it peculiar? Why is this suddenly Adele Central and us lambs are just supposed to be all wolly and warm about it? Don't make me laugh. Goodbye from the inside.

I completely understand what you are saying and I know it's an act but I just don't want Mariah to end up like Marilyn or other legends. Misunderstood and not appreciated until after their death. Maybe that's part of what makes them so legendary. You don't realize what you have until it's gone. I guess the good thing is in 50 years Mariah will be in almost every teenage girl's room. Also what makes you think "Chanteuse" is as personal as she is going to get right now? Just curious on why you think that, not attacking you or anything.

I think that in the "Elusive Chanteuse" Mariah was as 'bare' as she would get at this point in her. Although I see your point about opening up, I thoroughly get Mariah's hesitation to open too much about anything too personal. Also, the truth of the matter is, she has opened up several times in the past, though never overexposing herself either. I like that about her. I respect her "elusiveness" and I don't think that she should overshare. We're talking about a person who's under constant scrutiny, mind you. Finally, the "eternally twelve" issue could be, as you said, a defense mechanism, but I think it's a very strong part of her persona and playfulness and her own take on Marilyn Monroe's image tricks. Mariah is an excellent student of classic Hollywood and of pop culture in general, so I'm sure she cultivates her public persona based on a specific vision and "plan", if I can put it this way. Clearly, she's way more complex and smarter than what she allows the general public to see, but they way she "directs" herself is not random either.

Speak up more (57,898)

I really wish Mariah would take a note from Viola Davis or some other stars and just open up about her backstory. We know the basics of her life and how being biracial affected her but we (or I) don't know what has trapped her to live as a 12 year old girl. Is racism the reason she is 12? What happened with Alison and Morgan? She can speak on how they affected her. Tell us more stories of the "wayward child with the weight of the world she held deep inside". The girl singing Outside and Close My Eyes should reveal alot more because it would make her more personal and could help more people then she thinks. I know the issues she had in her life are what caused her to stay 12 as a defense mechanism but I want her to be 45 now and just open. Whether she chooses to do that through music or interviews doesn't matter although a personal album would be great. No more being elusive and 12. Sometimes the greatest things come out of being bare.

My prediction for sure is the upcoming Rick Ross and Mariah song "Can't Say No" is really a remake/remixed version of "Can't Let Go". Anyways can't wait to see Mariah on the 18th for my second annual Mimi Christmas show.

I'm glad Mariah will be joining all of the judges of AI and you know she'll look like she did when she was a judge. A smart decision career wise along with admitting the feud with Minja was fake. This will repair her image she just needs to use her PR training she received from the Columbia and Sony managers and her publicists. She needs to play the game she knows how to. Slay Mariah, slay.

AI judges reuniting (57,893)

If this is true, they better be paying Mariah another couple of million to appear on that sad excuse of a singing show. It's clear that the Idol from the first half of its run, which discovered actual talent like Kelly, Jennifer, and Carrie, no longer exists. I can't picture seeing Mariah back on the show considering her (rightful) disdain towards the whole fakery of a thing. Not to mention that means Nicki and J.Lo would be there. The Nicki thing was overblown and probably fake, but we all know how real the J.Lo thing is.

All I Want For Christmas book (57,892)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
|
|
This is such a smart move. I can see all of her original Christmas songs being made into children's picture books eventually. Oh Santa in particular but even the ballads and hymns. It's a great Christmas gift to young and old, festive, educational and it'll feel brand new every year just like it's mother song. I wish for the next edition they'll put music to it. But maybe Mariah's saving that for her Hallmark card designing endeavour. Also, take note of the the fact that Mariah Carey is the only name billed as author.

The irony of this never ending tepid Mariah link to a song title. Doesn't Adele have fansites online? I thought everybody loved her. You'd think she was some underrated groundbreaking artist struggling to get her mixtape heard the way some of you go on and on about her. Let me go on Adele.com and talk about Mariah ad nauseum. That should go over well, right guys?

New campaign (57,886)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

So according to Stella's insta, they are working on a photoshoot for Mariah's MAC campaign. I am excited for it. It had been a while since Mariah did a proper photoshoot. Plus in her recent pictures she looks hot tamale. Her body is back to "Idol" era even in the candids that were posted from her night out. She now looks like a combo of her "Rainbow" and 2013 looks. It's also evident that she is feeling super confident about herself judging from. her body language. Get the video done for the new single asap Mariah. The world needs to see this. She is going all out this time.

Um? Heavenly? Beautiful? One More Try? H.A.T.E.U? Languishing? I Wanna Know What Love Is? She's done so much ballads. She's just straight up snubbed, for real. Radio isn't supporting. Def Jam completely foiled and wasted it all. I do believe Mariah is going hard with the next album though At Adele cover, does anyone for sure know if it's really "Can't Let Go" by Mariah? Don't go telling people it is if it's not. I hope it is though. It matches the heartbroken theme of her album. But I won't get all my hopes up since there might a chance it's not a cover. Time will tell. Either way excited for Adele's success as well. Yay for real singers ruling the charts.

I don't think the issue is Mariah incorporating hip-hop into her music, I think the problem is that lately she's been choosing the wrong people to collaborate with. Her collaborations are lackluster because she works with too many "artists of the moment" rather than rappers that are worth her sharing her talent with. Rich Homie Quan, French Montana, Rick (98% of my music is features) Ross, really? If she's gonna do hip-hop, she needs to do it right by working with legends (for example, DJ Quik). I agree on the meaningful videos as well. Infinity and You're Mine were flatter than a 3 month old, half-opened, unrefrigerated bottle of Sprite. Half of the respect that Adele gets is because emotional depth is her personal brand (although if you see her interviews she is quite the jokester). Mariah's depth is not mainstream. She's written powerful lyrics, but who knows that besides us? I want to see her depth reemerge in an obvious way so she can gain more respect back. Some steps in the right direction would be releasing singles that have meaningful lyrics and having videos that reflect that. It seems like MC wants all of her singles nowadays to be fun and games but it wouldn't kill her to throw '90-'95 lambs a bone in the form of a well-produced ballad.

Comfort zone (57,881)

If only Mariah can leave hip hop behind and have a total reinvention it would be amazing. Her time is far from over its just that people are tired of the same old. Big uptempo and big ballads even a ballad/disco number would be amazing. A song that starts off as ballad and becomes a banger in the middle till the end. There's so many things she can try. She just needs to get out her comfort zone. PS. More meaningfull videos and less vanity shots. One can only wish.

According to the Target Deluxe Edition track list, Adele has a bonus track called "Can't Let Go". I really hope she isn't being a tease and have it be some original song, because I would die happy if this was indeed a cover of Mariah's song. And if it is, it goes to show that Mariah must be a fan of hers because there are legalities regarding covering/distributing songs, and we know that Mariah doesn't just let anyone touch her music babies.

If this is true indeed, this is pretty monumental. It's really the first time I can think of where a huge artist covers Mariah. I'm discounting AIWFCIY and the Hero tributes. For Mariah to give her approval is a pretty huge thing. Like, for her to let 5H to even sample her song is a huge deal. It's just we know Mariah is very protective over her music and property. But yeah, if this is true go ahead and get your coins Mariah. Time to do some cashing in on what you call being a songwriter haha. And I'm sure Adele would do justice to the song in her own artistic way.
