New pictures (56,817)

Wow Mariah looks absolutely gorgeous in the new pictures. This picture of her and James is also so cute. She looks a lot slimmer and her face has become smaller. She is such a gorgeous woman. Dare I say she looks like she is on her way to her 2013 look? What I love the most about the pictures though is the fact that her smile looks genuine. She looks genuinely happy and that makes me happy. She has been through a lot this past year and she deserves to be in a good place. Also I am loving the fact that we are basically getting new Mariah photos almost everyday since she is out and about socializing. I think this is the aubergine colored version of the navy blue Alaia dress she wore a while back. Yay to them boobies deciding to stay covered. She looks a lot younger here.

That picture is from the Charmbracelet era 2003. Here's the full outfit. This is one of my favorite looks of Mariah. Perfect blend of classy and sexy and one of the few times she got the fashion right during the CB era because I was not loving those sweatshirt moments.

Is that picture Mariah posted recent? Or an old one? I've never seen it before and she looks so pretty. I always wondered why she got rid of her fringe/bangs. They suit her a lot and make her look younger somehow.

Miguel, Frank Ocean, The Weekend, Bruno Mars, and Janet. I forgot about Sam Smith. I would also liked to add Adele. An epic ballad with epic vocals.

Giovanni, I will actually agree with you and take Taylor off my list. Actually I just included her because she is a songwriter and Mariah respects songwriters but you are right, it would be a weird combo. Her latest song "Wildest Dreams" is not bad though. I absolutely hate her SIO. It's annoying and I don't get why people love it.

Sam Smith, Robin Thicke (wherever the hell he is lol), one with Miguel again for sure, Pharell. But no to Beyonce and Taylor. Beyonce is [censored] and not my cup of tea. And is it really necessary to explain why for Taylor? Just watch her try and sing on stage lol. Or when she's not sounding flat with her live singing she's lipping. You've got to "shake her off" Mimi L. I have.

I doubt Mariah would want to do a duet with The Weekend because Ariana Grande already did a song with him. I doubt she wants the GP to compare the two songs, too much drama for a song. Shame because I believe both would do a hell of a song.

The Weeknd would be a great collab for a midtempo song, and Sam Smith for a ballad, both of them have voices that would merge well with Mariah. I doubt Mariah would do a duet with Taylor, since she's apparently more on "team Katy" and all the "bad blood" between them. Anyway, I just need a good song.

Collabs (56,806)

If Mariah is cool with Beyonce and she wasn't referring to her as the thief, then I am still up for the MC-Bey collaboration. I think a strong female anthem or whatever these two cook up would be a chart burner. I would also love for a MC-Damita Jo moment. Two legends in one song, is the world ready? Robin Thicke, Chris Brown, Miguel and The Weeknd need to get into the studio with MC asap. I am open to a MC Britney collab, I think it could be a hot number and their styles are so different, it would be interesting. Sam Smith is another artist I would adore to hear singing on a track with Mariah. But before any other male collaborations, I would like to hear MC on a track with one of the current hot female artists, she can pick anyone (Bey, Rihanna, Taylor or whomever).

M, that photo of Katy in front of Mariah's huge poster looks like she is praying at the Temple of Mariah. She wrote "Lambily for life" and I thought that was cute. I am not really a Perry fan, I think I just heard 3-4 of her songs, but any artist praising Mariah will be in my good books lol. Oh as for the "throwback" comment, since she is going out of her way to show her lamb status (the praying at temple picture, attending her Vegas show, posing with her afterwards, giving a shout out to Mariah) I will chalk it down to a quote taken out of context. What I think is being totally taken in the wrong way is lambs thinking that Katy shaded her with the "sit and enjoy" comment. I don't see any shade in it at all and Mariah herself acknowledged it (and we know Mariah would never tweet about it if she detected even the slightest bit of shade). I think Katy just meant to say that she wants Mariah to sit and enjoy the performance she is dedicating to Mariah for that night. Not to sit down and take a back seat forever.

I don't think Katy is one to think intelligently about what she says. She tries though. I'm sure Mariah knows there's no competition regarding her lol. I did watch her performance at the event and so many comments were praising her singing which I really couldn't understand. She has improved over the years but if that's the standard now-a-days then the music industry is in a bad place.

I don't think Mariah is in dire need of younger fans. She needs to reconnect with her fans, she has to wow us to get us interested and motivated.

Your post is very on-point. I just want to say regarding Katy Perry, I wasn't happy when she put a Mariah drag queen in her video. Or when she said in an interview "Mariah is good for a throwback." Maybe that was shade, or maybe it was just a joke that sounded better in her head. Whatever it was, she seems to be making up for it now. I liked it when she had a photo of herself standing in front of and staring at a Mariah poster in Vegas, as if to say she's following in her footsteps (even though she's no Mariah). And now this shout-out. She's one of the hottest artists out there right now. This kind of "joining forces" in the industry can only help Mariah stay relevant with her music rather than just with her ensembles and her diva antics.

The shade of it all (56,797)

I think Mariah has taught us well in her Institute of Shade. Too well, in fact, that a lot of lambs now manifest symptoms of its side effects. A good number of us have already become way too cynical - aiming our unsharpened pitchforks even at the least offensive remark or gesture which we almost automatically deem shady, only to end up realizing that we might have read too much into it anyway. Katy Perry gives a very public shoutout of praise to Mariah which she graciously accepts, and of course, let's leave it to the fans to twist Katy's words and receive it as shade. Really now? This often happens in the comments section of the news publishing website and even in fan forums. This mentality that Mariah or the lambily are "always under siege" is going to our downfall. I guess it wouldn't hurt us to learn to be less defensive and rather more appreciative of compliments to Mariah, especially if they're given by today's most popular artists. Does Mariah need those compliments to validate her legacy? Of course not. To stay relevant? No, her ubiquitous impact in music does that for her. But all I know is that because of that shoutout and its considerable media coverage, some little Katy fan out there is Google-ing "Mariah Carey" out of curiosity. Haven't we established that Mariah is in dire need of younger fans? There you go. Every little bit counts.

My favourite cover is the Japanse cover of MIAMTEC, that face-shot is beautiful. One more thing about Faded. Check out this "male version" of the song, which is basically Mariah singing, but her voice is edited to make it sound deeper. IMO this shows just how high Mariah can sing, especially with the adlips in the end.

B, the original cover (as in the cover when the album was titled TAOLG) is the same picture which was later used for the deluxe version of MIAMTEC. I like the full body shot they later used for the standard edition but the absolute best picture from that shoot is the one they used for the cover of the TAOLG single (which was her kneeling down on the beach). That picture is gorgeous.

This story from last week continuously has me in stitches. There are already "I don't know him" gifs and everything. No disrespect to Shawn Mendes since he's obviously very talented but this is all very funny to me. And Justin follows him now so in the end Shawn actually benefited from all of this "controversy" because more people know about both him and his music now. "Justin Bieber throws serious shade at Shawn Mendes in radio interview. " Watch. Justin Bieber has obviously been studying at the Mariah Carey's Institue Of Shade, because he pulled the old "I don't know her" (or him, in this case) when asked about fellow Canadian pop star Shawn Mendes in a recent radio interview. The host asked if he had any advice for his younger rival and the "What Do You Mean?" superstar seemingly drew a blank. "Who's Shawn Mendes?" he asked his entourage. The DJ then awkwardly listed Shawn's credentials. "He's on Island, he's from Southern Ontario, he's 17 years old, he has a song called 'Stitches' that's doing ok at pop radio." Justin's response? "Nice. Good for him." Cold. Even if he isn't familiar with teen's music, the new face (and abs) of Calvin Klein would at least recognize his name. After all, Shawn's debut LP Handwritten debuted at number one on the Billboard - something Journals failed to achieve. Watch up top. Is this shade or has Justin really not listened to the radio or been online for the last year? Let us know below, or by hitting us up on Facebook and Twitter.
