Prince spills tea: Billboard Lady Gaga's WOTY fraud (58,218)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
|
|
"The concepts of honesty and top-notch journalism that we were taught to value here at Billboard have slipped away." It's all over Twitter. I was waiting for some sort of damage control but Billboards last tweet is from 2-3 days ago, ironically congratulating Lady Gaga for her Woman of The Year "win". Basically, the writer is retelling how Gaga supposedly secured her Billboard Magazine WOTY award through payola disguised as charity and also alludes to other similar situations during her time at Billboard as the reason for her resignation. I'm not even a little bit surprised at this when every other article BB writes about Mariah is literally hack journalism. If Billboard is as corrupt as this former employee plainly states then it must be just as easy for someone to sabotage by planting unfavourable stories/narratives and buy negative press. It explains so much that I don't even need to elaborate beyond the many rants I've already had in the past on this very board on this particular subject. So, In the words of Prince Rogers Nelson: Thoughts? Discuss.

So Mariah attended Jay-Z birthday bash and sang "Shake it off" and AIWFCIY. Today with Busta she apparently is singing "I know what you want" and another new song. Source: Instagram.

Appreciative of MC (58,211)
by DK from USA
| |
|
|
One thing is constant - I truly appreciate Mariah as an artist and as a person overall (as I have observed her persona over the years). Mariah's musicality and vocal delivery, especially the recorded version, are impeccable by any industry standards. MC is extremely versatile with regards to genres. I like that she is original in her works and has great integrity. If you pay careful attention to her relationships with family, friends and colleagues, you will notice commonality in her sense of loyalty, respect and genuine love. While the music industry can be scrupulous, Mariah's longevity is a testament to her talent, willpower, work ethic and business intuition. Are there superficial moments, and times when she slips? Of course, but so do all of us in our personal and professional life. When you follow MC's endeavors, it's natural to comment (constructively) with the end goal being: you want her to do well and to succeed as she has done for some many years. At the same time, MC is who she is, and only she can deliver the authentic creative output we've come to love. There is a fine balance to expanding personal boundaries in compatibility with public noise and expectations. Self awareness is key. I wish Mariah continued success in all fronts. P.S. I am currently enjoying "One Child".

Mariah's message to Jay Z (58,210)
by Luke from United Kingdom
| |
|
|
I know this is digging up old dirt lol but ever since Mariah mentioned someone stealing her work I've been curious to know who it was. It probably isn't Beyonce or Jay Z now that she's spoken to them. I did wonder if it might have been Taylor Swift which someone might have mentioned before? 1989 was the time Mariah had a demo full of classics and was starting out, I wonder if that was the concept at the time. Maybe not for MIAM but an idea for a future album. The videos for Taylor's songs for that album were very Mariah-esque as well. It's all such a mystery haha.

Empire - Sky Summers (58,208)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
Does anyone else get the impression that the character Sky Summers (played by Alicia Keys) on Empire is either based on Mariah Carey or is it the role that we were told Mimi would play in the series? Watching it, there are so many Mariah-isms in Alicia Key's performance and there's still no word if MC will actually appear in the series. This week's "half black" store line, Sky's diva ways, her performance style etc. are all very Mariah real-time to me.

Re: Rockefeller (58,202) (58,207)
by May from Denmark

I remember my former boss in my early 20s scolding me one time when I arrived late for work, I told her I lived very far (an hour travelling in bus, I didn't have a car back then), she told me "then, you get up even earlier and take an earlier bus, this way if the bus arrived late you will always be on time", granted it wasn't fun getting up at 5 am and then having to get up even earlier haha but my boss was a self made business woman with a big company, professionalism exhuded from her pores. With celebrities one doesn't like the late justifications neither, one thinks they have private jets, personal bus, chauffeurs, people who can deal with their business issues most times, so what are the excuses, people tend to end up thinking vain things such as "was her make up, was the broken nail" etc. Mariah is very professional when it comes to working on her music and delivering the best she can on stage, but is also known for arriving late even to private interviews. I remember reading somewhere that the reason for her lateness was a meeting she was having with attorneys and dealing with her divorce, trying to set property deals and such, but I'm not sure if that was official. There was an apology and Mariah wanted to perform at least for the fans who waited but she still was rejected by NBC. While I personally think it was an ok justification for arriving late, I think the way it was handled was all wrong. I don't know if NBC was being informed of Mariah being busy and reporting this to those waiting for the show, but clearly everything could have been dealt in privacy, leaking the vocals just like that was a horrible move by whoever did it, and though she wasn't at her best it didn't sound terribly bad with the music. Mariah was going through a horrible time those days, I couldn't blame her for anything, still recall her crying when singing Hero after all the ordeal. Wouldn't blame her if she doesn't want to perform, while I feel it was unprofessional the way her team dealt it (should have appointed the meeting for another day at least) I also think NBC did very poorly.

Rockefeller? That's so fetch (58,206)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
|
|
Performing at Rockefeller this year would be like Mariah rewarding "bad behaviour". It was never gonna happen. It's how we know she's a good parent. Her compromise was her 3 hour appearance in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. It's not complicated, I'd have done the exact same thing. Besides, M deserves a full televised hour of delivering her Christmas gems on her terms and not being ridiculed and punished for having a cold. Not to mention having the decency to still sing live all while enduring personal upheaval. If you wanna hear her sing AIWFCIY then fetch a seat at the Beacon.

I hope so to, but let's be honest if she would have canceled we know what would have happened then. At this point in time every move she makes could be the wrong on, it's like the woman is walking on thin ice, because there will be retribution the second she slips up or doesn't deliver.

True that. Yes she was late, but lets not forget she did apologize to NBC and to the fans, at the end of the day even a Mariah Carey is human and f***s up. She could not undo the situation or the fact she was late, but she at least stood for it and admitting her wrong doing, what else could she have done at that point, right?

But was leaking a bad isolated vocal track really necessary? Anybody with a decent heart will not do such things because that's not the way how you should treat people. Mariah did something wrong and the whole "being late for hours" thing was unprofessional for anyone, even for people of her calibre but I would never leak something that would destroy someone's reputation because it's not right. I mean I would feel guilty for days if I'm the one who leaked the track, even if it was accidental. Doing something like that could've costed someone's whole career. Mariah is lucky she is an established star with 25 years of success. That leaked track could annihilate a rising star's career like Tori Kelly. It's obvious that Mariah is a victim and while she did do something wrong and unprofessional, she did not deserve that leaking of the track. That's evil. Lol idk what the bleep were you thinking, sometimes try to put yourself in her place, how would you feel if that leaking happened to you? Would you still go "well I did come late so I guess I deserved a bulldozer on my public image and possibly my career"? Come on, don't be such a penis.

I really hope she feels up to it and puts on a stellar performance. No one is going to care if she had the flu, the world is going to judge her solely based on a 15 second clip. She just can't afford to mess up. Please Mary J., no more drama.

Thank you for explaining the situation, I could never find the right words, but you did. Mariah payed dearly for this, we as fans should not be still throwing this in her face, the rest of the world is already doing so by posting the mic feed and trying to make her look bad, eventhough she already gave us great vocals way after this situation.

Article: Did Mariah Carey lip-sync at Thanksgiving Day Parade? (58,197)
by Steve from USA

I thought all performers lip synced at parades because of the moving floats and such, so they just play the track. It's silly that people called out Mariah when literally every performer used playback.

Just purchased from iTunes and I must say, I love it though she doesn't let the vocals rip like on the ballad version. Still it's nice to hear one of my favourite songs by her get the R&B treatment and it works here.

Fact vs. omission (50 shades of BS) (58,195)
by nikki from usa

There is no such thing as "waiting 3 hours for Mariah Carey" for a show recording. When you, as a show, are trying to get artists in one place at a time you are dealing with international travelers. People's flights are delayed, they get caught in traffic, or lost. Bottom line is people are late, it happens, and often. This biz runs in the fast lane. No show is waiting around for a single artist to "show up" they are simply bumped and the next one that's there performs until the other artist arrives. Then, that artist has to wait his/her turn. It goes both ways. Just like if there's a tech problem the show has to wait until it's fixed. Or an artist that's early/on time might still be exchanged for a later time if it works better for the tech team. Rockefeller had about 3 hours worth of artists to record, they were not "waiting around" for Mariah. When they finished with their last act and MC wasn't there, they packed up. She didn't get any special treatment, they were even on the fence of whether to ax her or not. Mariah had a statement released, she had made a formal apology to NBC, their crew, and the fans. She agreed to sing the next day for whatever time table worked best for them as to not cause any further problems. Which would explain NBC's statement that they were happy to have her and what a huge draw she is each year. What sucks is after giving an apology, acknowledging her screw up, keeping her word the next day, she was given a faulty ear piece and globally humiliated. The real dick move was capitalizing on her appearance, waiting for the good press to roll in for another successful year before globally humiliating her. That's extreme for a woman that's been singing for them since 2010. If someone is willing to screw with your career it only makes sense to cut ties with them. If "Mariah holds a grudge" than clearly NBC was the one turned down. I hope Busta's show is televised.

Martyn, I think Team Andrew is just you and me, chuck. But I submit it is the. coolest. team. ever. I agree the "phone call" idea is unproven - I should have put "allegedly". However, Mariah is renowned for being late and keeping people waiting for hours. I am not saying the Rockefeller lateness deserved releasing the mic feed, but Mariah kept everyone waiting for three hours in the rain and then, on the night, gave a very bad vocal performance. It is perfectly possible, and perhaps likely, that Mariah isn't performing at Rockefeller this year because she hasn't been invited.

I wouldn't give Rockefeller the time of day after last year's scandal. If Mariah's not performing there ever again I totally support her decision. I understand being mad that someone is late but releasing that mic feed was just evil. I would not want to bless the same people that humiliated me with improved vocals. I vote no.
