Mariah's next single (57,212)
by Giovanni from USA
| |
|
|
Has to be strong and up to pair with her past hits. I think an up tempo or r&b jam would be good. The video has to be on point too. I think the only thing I like about the "Infinity" video is how amazing she looks.

Christmas and Mariah directing (57,211)
by May from Denmark
| |

I know it's a long shot but I would really love to see a special about Mariah as a director with takes of her backstage doing her job. We have seen specials of her in the studio, cutting and making, with the engineering machines and such being all serious. I would love to see her behind the cameras getting serious as well in the world of movies.

Re: Rihanna (57,198) (57,210)

I agree that sometimes it feels unfair when you think about the fact that Rihanna is not a good singer. Anyone who has seen her live shows knows that very well, once she spent the length of a song just trying to moonwalk, I think there was more chance of life on Mars than any life on Riri that night because she seemed really high, she hardly could sing a line and it sounded like a karaoke, like a girls-night-out, not like a professional singer on stage delivering the best to the audience. I always thought of her a studio singer, lots of takes and edits, her voice is not unpleasant but very limited. Rihanna has great songwriters backing her up, and she found a way to sell her image very well. Lately I think she is falling in the same wagon as Lady Gaga, people are getting somewhat tired. I guess that's how it is these days with the music industry, nobody seems to come to stay anymore. Someone new is popping up all the time. If Mariah works on a new album she needs to work with strong songwriters as well and work with featured artists that are in, that last pretty much is doing the trick for everyone haha. I really liked where some of her latest tunes were going.

Thanks Deedre for the comment. I wanted to clarify in that last post that I'm not against Janet or anything alike, she is a whole artist in her own right. My post and general comparison between Mariah and Janet was only referring to the recent article "Rock Hall nominations" and the question about Janet going before Mariah.

Yeah I agree. We don't need new music right now, instead she's still giving us plenty of gag worthy moments to hold us over. She didn't do a disappearing act ala Janet style which she could have most certainly done. You know living it up in the lap of luxury with Packer and whatnot. But I guess her keeping busy helped distract from the personal drama she was going through. It will probably take her a moment to cook up a good album and that's OK too. No point in putting a rush job and it being all types of messy. A worthy comeback takes a little bit of time and planning. And from what I can tell with Stella for always being on the phone, she is getting work done. I just want her to be happy and in a good place. Maybe write some happy songs for a change because it's been a minute.

I think that's the one preventing Mariah from #1. We should go all out in supporting Mariah, buy, stream and promote it on social media, etc. Mariah's team have to think of a crazy good promo push and campaigns and really go all out. Once Mariah, Mariah's team and us lambily go together hand in hand, MC will have no problem in snatching a few more #1s.

Not most really, 3 of Rihanna's #1's are as a featured artist out of 13 (2 with Eminem and 1 with T.I.). Plus out of the 3 singles she released recently one reached #4 and the other #15. While I most definitely agree that an artist's #1's should be counted if the song is their song and not if they are featured artists, but BB has always been clear that the #1 song will also be counted for in the featured artists total. Which is sad since Mariah wrote all her #1s (minus IBT) and was the primary artist for all of the #1's. Why I will be sad if Rihanna overtakes Mariah is because personally I feel Rihanna is not a good singer (and the quality compared to Mariah is just ugh) and if someone ties with Mariah (which I hope never happens) they should atleast have strong pipes. I never really got into most of Rihanna's catalogue save for some singles. I hope whatever MC releases next is supported by the lambily but her team also needs to put in effort and promote the heck out of it and get radio deals. Justin's latest #1 WDYM is a song I love but I'll be honest that it doesn't scream #1 but it still topped the charts because of the huge promo (even though his career was almost over just a while back). Same for Taylor's "Bad Blood", which is a horribly annoying song yet went to #1 because of the huge promo and the headlines about the video (which again was a stupid video). Her better songs like "Style" and "Wildest Dreams" didn't manage to do it despite being better written and more pleasant. So yes I hope both the lambs and Team Mariah are on point for the next era.

Most of Rhianna's #1's are as a featured artist. I think Billboard should clarify how that works. Does being a featured artist on a #1 mean it's your #1? Personally, I don't think so. Besides Mariah has countless classics that could have been #1 hits had the label released them. Rhianna's days are numbered. Her songs have flopped and her album won't top the Billboard 200, mark my words. If RihRih breaks Mariah's record I will loose faith (hope) in humanity and the lambily. We can put Mariah back at #1. We just have to do our parts. We need to get motivated because I have a feeling Mariah is going to release an amazing song. If we don't share, like, advertise, and buy she'll never be #1 again. We have to change with the times. I wish we could still go by her singles at record stores. I miss the 90's. Stream her videos and refresh after every view.

I don't think there was a demand for Janet's music from the general public, I think it was her fans. She hadn't released an album since 08 or 09. Is her album selling well? I haven't heard any news that supports some of these claims except excellent reviews. As we saw with MIAMTEC excellent reviews does not equal excellent sales.

Rihanna (57,198)

Rihanna has announced her next album. Although her last few singles (apart from Four Five Seconds) have not performed that well (by Rihanna standards), I think it's obvious she'll be going all out with the promos now. This scares me a little because Rihanna is 5 #1's away from catching up with Mariah.

I'm not easily impressed when people cover Mariah songs. If I don't hate it, it's already a major compliment. I don't hate this performance at all. Her tone is very pleasant and even though it's obvious she's a lamb (with some of her choices) she tried to make it her own. Thankfully her talent is such that she did a really good job. More please

There is no nobility in being superior to your fellow man, true nobility is being superior to your former self. Different things work for different artists. Just because something works for one artist doesn't mean it will work for Mariah and vice versa. Any artist who is a "legend" or a "star" has achieved that status by being unique and bringing their own brand of self expression to the table. Mariah's name is next to Elvis and The Beatles for a reason. The Beatles birthed revolution, Elvis birthed Rock N' Roll, and Mariah birthed Hip-Pop while ending genre segregation. No one, but Mariah could've done that. Mariah's versatility comes so effortlessly it often gets overlooked. But, it would have to be someone as versatile, talented, and popular as Mariah was to pull that off. If Madonna had to put up with Mottola, she would've shot him and went back to being Madonna before dressing in gowns to sing A/C music. No one would accept Celine Dion as a hip-pop artist. Whitney wasn't into rap music and would've missed out on her acting career. As for MIAM, let's make a shorter list, what went right with that project? Instead of Glitter 2.0, MC switched gears. A residency, Christmas shows, the new face of GOW, directing a movie, and launching a lipstick line. She was dependent on others for visibility, but now she's creating her own market.

May, I appreciate your post. Mariah is an unparalelled songwriter and vocalist indeed. You are very respectful. It's not like I'm this huge raging Janet fan or anything. Lol. She has 4 albums in my entire rather large music collection. I don't collect her singles (like I do Mariah and I never visit Janet websites, like I do here, and never been to a show). Mariah is my favorite artist ever. I guess I don't find it necessary for every conversation involving Mariah and another artist, to be about comparing this is better than that or that being a Mariah fan must mean that we must be threatened by the success of other artists. I adore Mariah - the world will never see another Mariah, but I don't think we need to measure her against others, measure others against her or be upset when other singers/performance artists are enjoying success for their work. I think we can just appreciate people for what they offer for the artistry of it, and celebrate it, rather than making everything about comparison and competition. Everybody can just do their thing.

Hey guys. Heard this new song by Beyoncé and Naughty Boy. This is the kind of jam I wish Mariah would bring out, just out of the blue. No champagne fuelled radio interviews, just the song - and blow everyone away with the talent.

I think Janet's success with her latest album could be because her long absence. She is an amazing dancer and she has a very unique baby voice, I honestly don't listen much of her music because I feel that most music sounds alike, so I've never been devoted to her career but I enjoyed some of her stuff in the late 90s. I agree that the way the public received her album and Mariah's was completely different and we speculated much in the past the reason why Mariah's album didn't do well, I mean, debuting in the third place while having such strong songs, #Beautiful itself was such a big success and a fair amount of the songs in the album were catchy and had wonderful lyrics and suddenly the fall. The reviews by critics were almost as equal as Janet's. To me it was the lack of videos and promo. Janet's album is like an anticipated comeback while Mariah released hers under stress and pressure, not only her personal life being on a turmoil but also the management area, it feels like she decided to just "let it go". I won't put down Janet in any way because I think she had a steady career but I do think Mariah is bigger in terms of singer and songwriter.

Will, yes you are correct. I don't follow Janet the way I do Mariah, but she took a very long hiatus. Her last major album was in 2008 (I believe) I was going to mention that in my last post, but didn't. Yet if MC goes off the radar for half that time, people freak out. Lol. As fans, we're lucky Mariah has such a large body of work, and that she still chooses to put herself out there. One day that could change and we might be looking at 7 year breaks between albums. You know? The way I see it, we're blessed.
