Expectations lead to suffering (54,064)
by Ardis Logic from Earth
| |
|
|
In life, when you have expectations, you are setting yourself up for suffering and disappointment. It also works in this situation. If you just let it be what it is, then you will not be so disappointed. I think the video is beautiful. There is no way to expect MC to fulfill your fantasy of the "perfect" video, single, or album. She can only give us what she can. Just try next time not to expect so much and just let it be what it is. That is just my opinion on it. Much love to all.

I don't know if you were here when there was a major showdown going on about how in the past few years, every time a single was announced, it was touted the next #1 and then every time it flopped it got dubbed as a buzz single. I will leave the technical definition at the end of the post. To clarify my previous post. When "Triumphant" was released, it was going to be the start off a new era, it was the return of MC. Dubbed the summer of MC. If the song was a success, the album would have been released shortly. But it flopped, and immediately MC and fans alike started dubbing it as a "buzz single" and "a song for Nick". The song was dropped from the album. Then came #Beautiful (which went fine until the accident). Then TAOLG, which was again going to kick of the new era (with all the first time ever Facebook event, Mariah on the bathroom floor because the wrong version was released) after the delay post #B. It failed to make any impact and no effort was made to push it and it got dubbed as "a single for the fans". Then came YM(E) and it was again going to be Mariah's 19th #1, up until it was released, which again failed to make an impact (excluding dance charts) and it was dubbed "a song for V-Day only, MC is now making V-Day anthem after conquering Christmas and also it's a song to tide us over till the proper single named Thirsty, which will be the 19th #1". Thirsty came and went, no video, no promo. MIAM was dead. Your point about singles being released to promote is right, but not all singles are buzz singles. When I say proper single, I mean it as the opposite of buzz single. Technical definition in music, a buzz single or advance single is a track or promotional song, released by the label (typically) preceding the album's release. The song(s) are released in order to bring attention to an album's release. Buzz singles are not typically issued to radio as promotional singles, but this will not prevent radio stations from playing the songs. Buzz singles are not always included on an album.

What is a "proper single"? All singles are released to promote and create buzz for something. It's not like it was a random coincidence that Mariah happened to be performing in Vegas just as Infinity was released. Sure you could say it was to promote the album, but the album is the theme of the Vegas residency. Personally, I would class a "proper single" as a song released to promote an album with new content on it.

To: Henrique Pereira, that is my comment posted on YouTube actually (54,059)

First of all, I'm so delighted to see Mariah's new video "Infinity". At first I thought it was so so music video than Mariah ever made previously. But eventually I have my opinion on some symbolic things. One of my opinions was said by Henrique Pereira earlier on this message board. Actually it was my comments posted on the YouTube comment. Thanks for sharing my opinions though. However it would be better if you mention the source.

My opinion on the "Infinity" video (54,058)
by Nick from USA
| |
|
|
I love the video so much, it wasn't anything spectacular, but it is her best video since "Obsessed". To be honest, I was expecting a video like "I Stay In Love" (which is my favorite MC video) with a real type of Vegas theme, but I wasn't going to get my hopes up. I like how this video actually has a story and does not just consist of beauty shots (#Beautiful, You're Mine, etc). If there was one thing I could change it would be the use of performance shots, they were done nicely and she looked beautiful in them but they shouldn't have taken up half of the video, I feel like there was more to focus on then just those shots. Overall, I am very pleased with this video and happy that we finally have it.

Ok, so I'm a little underwhelmed by the video. Like others, I just really assumed with all the hype, it would have been something new and refreshing. Oh well. On a positive note, Mariah looks amazing.

I agree with you Mimi L. There was so much that they said was going to happen and it didn't. I expected a fun TMB type video. The logical side of me knows that maybe they just bit off more than they could chew and they ran out of time. They couldn't do the video in the way that they really wanted, but the irrational/fan side of me wanted them to present a video in the way that they described. Irrational me is winning right not. Lol.

Bad blood: Can you still count them on one hand like Mariah JLo? (54,055)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End

2. We all know that classic Mariah line like the back of our own hands don't we? She started saying it back in the Butterfly era when she finality left Tommy and found herself wrongfully mired in rumours of promiscuity. Thanks a lot Valentine, good looking out. Meanwhile, Tommy plucked JLo out of obscurity and proceeded to groom her in Mariah's true image quite literally. Signed her onto Sony despite her less than silky vocals and threw everything that that would stick Mariah had fought tooth and nail nearly a decade to get at her. From her wardrobe and styling to her merger of Hip-Pop with Puffy, Cory Rooney, The Trackmasters etc. But dear old Tommy didn't stop there, no, he had JLo mock Mariah's very commendable choice of not being promiscuous by copying the statement she had made her own like Mariah is apt to do. When promoting On The 6 and several years subsequently JLo could be heard saying the exact same phrase almost verbatim. Coincidence right? Don't make me laugh. This was yet another way to screw with Mariah on a psychological level and both Tommy and JLo did it with that specific intent. It doesn't matter if JLo was being truthful at the time. It was the very fact that Tommy and she must have discussed his intimate life with Mariah and decided it was to their advantage if she was made painfully aware of it through mockery. No one can tell me any different. Passive-agressive 101.

Does Mariah Carey need a better gaydar? Nah (54,054)
by Vítor Henrique Pereira from Brazil
| |
|
|
Some lambs say, "Mariah keeps leaving with a gayboy everytime." It is a symbolic thing, darlings. If you noticed from the "IInfinity" music video, there are 3 types of men appearing, similar like Nick (Tyson Beckford) and the older guy (similar like Tommy, her first husband) and then Jussie Smollet, a "coincidentally" openly gay guy. As you know, most of the male lambs are gay, in which she gets their love and support "to infinity".

This single is just for Vegas, no sorry (54,053)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |

|
I see we are already trying to call this a "single only to promote Vegas". I said this before, I ain't having none of that. This was a proper single. No more "this was for the fans, this was for Nick, this was for V-Day, this was a buzz single". Everytime a single flops the single automatically is dubbed a buzz single.

Blow our minds (54,052)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
One of the reasons why I thought this video might be killer was the comment MC and Brett made that "it will blow your minds". Then came the article about how she is shooting the video and expect to see her in dangerous positions. Knowing their history and hearing their confidence made me feel like we will get a comedy-action like video. Something Brett excels in. Hello Heartbreaker anyone? It had a story, it had comedy, it had action, it had dance moves. There is absolutely nothing missing in the Heartbreaker video. Anyways, they hyped up the video only to give out a video, which while it is better than her last few efforts, still falls flat. Especially if it was the last weapon to push the song on the charts. This is basically still a "glamor shot/behind the scenes magazine shoot video" that Mariah can't seem to get out of. YM(E) was a low budget glamor shot behind the scenes, and this is a high budget or mid budget one. Just saying. The biggest change is Mariah tried real hard not to touch herself and it was evident that she was struggling to do so.

Video / re-release and other stuffs (54,051)
by Lara from Middle East
| |
|
|
Finally the video is here and it didn't live up to its hype. From the sneak peeks I would've expected more. It just doesn't flow (maybe because the song by itself has also so many variations?). If it's a promo for her residency, then fine. Now what's next? I don't want a re-release of her Merry Christmas album, if they are gonna do a re-release, let it be with all the underrated gems that never got to be singles like "Migrate", "You don't know what to do", "Underneath the stars (on top of my head)" and let the social media pick a single out of it to get a video from. Now that wouldn't take so much to work on as if it's a new album.

I know you and me (as black folks) won't be protesting if B get slammed. But when was the last time somebody had the courage to bash her on camera? Never. That's all about the backlash. If MCA was found by the Beyhive, do you think they would take kindly to some of us calling her overrated? I doubt it.

Tiina Infinity / good music videos (54,049)
by Lee TS from USA

Now those are some festive ideas lamby. They really could've done so much for the video and playing more to M's comedic side. They didn't live up to the hype they started. If this is what will blow our minds I think I'm gonna pass on the Christmas movie. Maybe they lost their spark since the mess of H.A.T.E.U. Their torrent love affair didn't do much to help, just for laughs. Since the board has been on this feud/rival tangent I'll like to mention Fifth Harmony. Now we love the girls because they're big MC supporters and has won the big stamp of approval. But I recently came across their so-called rival's Little Mix Black Magic music video and I was totally entertained. I legit watched their video 3 times in a row because it was so darn cute and the song was super catchy. In that moment I was almost ready to be like, "Little Mix all day". Lol but I'm way too old to be stanning for some girl group, I had my Spice Girls days haha. But here we have 5H looking like little strippers while Little Mix played up their cute and sexy side. But yeah, a good music video is everything and a bag of fritos.

What does our ages have to do with Beyoncé's music? Beyoncé was once a talented artist with integrity. Yes, she sang songs about her jelly but she didn't take herself so seriously. How can you take a song like Drunk In Love seriously? It has no hook or chorus and it makes me feel like I'm in a drunken stupor or something. Beyoncé is trying too hard. She isn't hood. She wasn't raised in the ghetto. The only song that I liked on her self titled release was 7/11. If Mariah had released an album like Beyoncé I would be upset but coming from Beyoncé I expected it. After the disappointing and underwhelming 4 my expectations were low but she released an album that was well below my expectations.

Video (54,047)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

I think she could have turned it into a mini movie. Even TMB had a little dialogue moment before the video. I think the video could have been like: first scene - MC fighting with her lover and she tells him to leave. She falls/collapses on the floor crying. Next scene: like Tiina said, MC signing up on the site debating with herself about the details. Then there can be cut scenes of her getting ready, put in the videos of different guys coming, when she shoos away the last suitor, she sings "infinity loving me more and more" twirling around hugging herself. At the end she drives off again taking Tiina's idea, with the dog. Scenes with a few friends partying/celebrating with her would have been great too. I mean just a rough idea. I could polish it more but really what's the point now. I loved the shot of her twirling around on the roof. I am disappointed there were no scenes of the alleged stunts. If this video was expected to re-ignite interest in the song, it either needed controversy or a kick-ass video. Something along the lines of "Honey".

Oh no, you guys, I didn't mean to hate on Beyonce or start a war, honest. I like her like I said, I paid to go to see her and traveled to France to go to her show. She's got major star power, she's beautiful, very talented and is running the show, leaving her powerful husband in the dust. It doesn't mean that she gets a free pass though because there are a lot of aspects that are ridiculous about her but there also seems to be this unspoken rule (not on this board, I mean on the internet) that you're not suppose to point out those things because she's somehow above criticism. I'm glad Beyonce is out there though because the new generation desperately needs someone who is talented, all they have got are basic "singers" like Miley, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift. The only artist that interests me out of the new generation is Tori Kelly. She has a voice similar to Grande's but she's got mad control and she writes her own songs. I've been following her since she was on America's Most Talented Kids. Mariah was also one of her original inspirations. Anyway, back to Mariah.

I this video. Stunning, classic Mariah Carey. She is having fun and clearly moving on with her life, and she looks so gorgeous doing it. The concert scene is "more than just a made up dream" iself. I was thinking the video would help me like the song, but it didn't. I wanted the Honey stunts that they said we would get. I also wanted something funnier. The shots with the guys were funny, but that was it. TMB wasn't a great song, but the video makes me laugh and made me enjoy that song more. I was hoping for something close to that. Next. I can officially be done with Infinity. Lol.

Happily divorced: looking for Dreamlover love match (54,041)

Mariah is officially single according to her match.com profile yawl. Here she is, MC1ToInfinity in all her glory. Don't you just love her? For those of you who remain confused, this version of the Infinity video is more or less M making it known she isn't playing around. I'm dying right now tbh because this whole thing takes major ovaries and I applaude her for letting her intentions be known. It's freaking Days Of Our Lives at this point. The pure unadultered drama of it all is gonna be the end of me. I would pay good money to see the look on his face the first time he sees it. I really would. Relationship: Divorced Have kids: Yes, and they live at home (2) Wants kids: I'll tell you later Ethnicity: Black / African descent, Latino / Hispanic, White / Caucasian Body type: Curvy Height: 5'9" (175 cm) Faith: Christian / other Smoke: No way Drink: Social drinker (go ahead M, drink your wine ) "I Believe In Infinity"

Infinity music video (54,040)

I hate to say this but I'm disappointed. We've been waiting a long time for this video and I got the feeling that they were going to do something similar to WBT and TMB, especially since Brett was directing. I wanted a storyline and humour. I can see that they tried but didn't film enough scenes with the guys. She looks magnificent though. Mariah has always looked like 10 years younger than she really is, have you noticed? In her twenties she really looked like a teenager, in her 30's she looked 20-25 and now in her 40's she doesn't look a day over 35. Great genes. Anyway, I think they should have had her signing on Match.com in the beginning. That would've been very funny to see Mariah Carey do that and getting matched. And it should've been a talking scene where she's talking to herself coming up with a description of herself for the site, after which the actual video starts. The beauty shots could've been shots of her preparing for the dates, then she could have met all these guys but each of them would have failed in some funny way. One of them could have had the door closed on them because it was funny the first time but there should have been more scenes with the other two guys, and they could have also been at her show to tie it all together, and then at the end she should have driven off by herself with the doggie and a bag of Fritos singing "loving me more and more". Why would they waste this opportunity this way?

It's finally here. Now I kinda wish it wasn't. We waited weeks for the video and the best scenes were in the sneak peeks. Mariah looks good in the video but the video is kinda boring. I liked the Vegas shots but the other scenes felt very out of place and didn't flow well. I hope there's a director's cut somewhere because those usually tend to be better.
