I thought Mariah did great. It was her first show, she was probably very nervous, and she hadn't performed in about 3 months. Cut her some slack. She looked really good (pink gown aside) and she sounded good. She might not be belting like it's 1996 but then again I didn't expect her to. I'm happy to see the Mariah I know and love back.

Second verses and alternate stuff (53,075)

Too many second verses were cut. I wish I could've heard the real version of TGIFY. But all in all for me it was a worthwhile experience since it was first time seeing her live.

Why so mych hate on MC1989? (53,074)

I've never seen so much hate on someone around here. Other people have made comments like that or just plain rude, dirty comments and didn't get so much hate.

It's not just Mariah who has to be "real" / MC1989 (53,072)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

|

I get that deep inside, your comments come from a place of love. You do want Mariah to do well. You don't want cheating. We have that in common, all of us on this board do. It's just that as much as we would like her to be "real" with regards to her voice these days, we also have to return the favor, not just by lowering our own expectations, but by accepting the harsh reality that no matter how much we or probably even Mariah explains that things are not easily done as they used to be, you can never ever shake off the general public's expectation of her to still belt out Hero like she did twenty years ago. It's practically engraved in world history that Mariah Carey is synonymous with flawless octave-scaling vocals. She is pressured to live up to that. She probably takes it as a back-handed compliment of just how high she set the standard for herself in the past. So before we feel bad for ourselves for being fans of a singer who is not being "real" enough, can we first stop and take a moment to try and empathize with her somehow, no matter how impossible that may seem. So she disappoints us at times. We feel disappointed. How do we act on that? We come to this messageboard and post about how we feel let down by her. But do we really ever try to set ourselves aside first and think, "How does Mariah actually feel about herself when she lets her fans down?" For all we know, she's much harder on herself than we are on her. Peace.

I think it's 100% uncalled for (53,070)
by SeannGrey from Malaysia

To say that she lipped her entire show or that you are disappointed with her lipping even parts of the show. No living human (not even your almighty Celine or Beyonce) can do the 19-vocals-Olympics-setlist she just did. Give her a break. It's just ridiculous. I applaud her (may she be 20 or 45 for doing this).

My sentiments exactly LC. I agree totally with what you said. Instead of focusing their energy into helping Infinity get to number 1, some so called lambs are too quick to criticize. They waste time talking about Mariah's dress, etc. I mean really, rather spend the time streaming Infinity. Don't ask me how, but I'm pretty much sure that Mariah herself visits this website and it is embarrassing that her own lambs are found writing such harsh comments when the general public is praising her now. Stop the negativity lambs and help get Infinity to number 1 on the Hot 100.

Mariah in NY Times review (53,061)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
I would like to update my previous comments about Infinity. I actually love this song in a way I haven't felt since WBT. I can't get the melody out of my head and really love all the lyrics. It really grew on me and I wanted to share my opinion about it with the forum as a result because sometimes I can be very critical of Mariah. Regarding Vegas, I love the way she sounds on most of the songs and am so excited to see her new costumes and set. My biggest favs are IDWC and LTT. I cringe really badly when I hear VOL and DL. I hope her voice polishes up nicely throughout the run of shows, however I will say I just read the NY Times review and it was harsh. The writer really went in on MC and basically revealed what we all already know - she lips her whistle notes and struggles very badly during all the others. Her even called out her methodical process of her pausing and covering her ear piece to then emit a clear loud whistle note. I'm really surprised that now the mainstream media is catching on to her concealed tricks us fans were only privy too. It's so obvious when she's doing it I'd be surprised if more people don't catch on and speak up as well. Anyhow, I love her Vegas show and am glad to see her perform this setlist even if parts of it are fake. She makes me so happy and I love her voice from the 90s until today all raspy and dry.

I've been a fan since 1990. I doubt she will ever sing her classics from the first two albums ever again after this show. She hasn't sang IDWTC since 1995 and LTT since 1993. IDWTC sounds great with her current voice and it sounds live. I don't know if and when I'll ever get to hear her sing these songs ever again sans a snippet here and there at a future concern if she choses to which is unlikely.

by Bill from the UK

Whilst I don't agree with MC1989's comments, there is absolutely no need to be so rude. Counter arguments can be made without being spiteful. Personally I think the performances I have heard have been fantastic. I loved John John's write up and can't wait to read his full review. So glad to also see Mariah finally get some good press as well. She is giving it her all and putting on a great show. Sit back and enjoy it everybody, don't spend your lives nitpicking every note.

Well thanks. The pink dress she wore at her Vegas show. When I first saw it I was like "What the hell is that" lol? It looked like a combination of a pancho and a piņata. I literally laughed at the "burn it and use it as a bonfire" line lol. Who made that thing?

I agree with you Connor Bethune. People should focus their energy on the positive and not negative. Abraham, I know that you have a right to criticise what you are buying so my suggestion is to first stream the song and if you don't like it then don't buy it. In that way you don't have to feel "cheated".

Disgusting (53,056)
by LC from USA

I'm really wondering what it'll take to please some of you so-called fans. You say she's destroying her legacy, yet every review, except one, has praised her, saying that she put on an incredible show and that she is "back". Everyone in the audience loved it, as they gave her multiple standing ovations. Also, Infinity has been getting raves from the public. Yet, here you guys are. Bitching as usual. Mariah is trying to re-establish her image to the public and giving her all to come back, yet here you ungrateful shits are saying that she needs to do more. More? What the hell else do you want? You hate her lipsyncing? Mariah has been lipsyncing since 1997. Accept it or leave. Just leave. No one is asking you to continue to wallow in your eternal disappointment. I'm a young lamb, yes, but even I know not to expect 90s level vocals coming from a 45 year old woman who has been through hell and back and is still the greatest singer in the world. No one can sing like Mariah Carey even today. What do you guys want? You want her to achieve the impossible and suddenly sound like it's 96 again? Wake up. Put on your earphones and listen to the Daydream tour and album if that's what you want. Get over yourselves. You are the ones trying to ruin her legacy by consistently being negative. This messageboard is supposed to be a community where fans can feel good. And now, I almost dread coming here. I'm just happy that Mariah is still making music even with such ungrateful fans. Ugh.

Project Infinity (53,055)
by Seth M from South Africa
| |
|
|
As you guys know, Infinity made a debut at #82 on the Billboard Hot 100 today. This is a good sign and the lyric video has over 4 million streams. Let us all join forces to get this song to number 1. Mariah taught us that nothing is impossible so let's make it happen. What we need to do is to stream the lyric video every day several times a day. When I'm in the office and not busy, then I put my mobile on silent mode and stream the lyric video. You must refresh the page every time you stream. Do not press replay after the video is finished because it will not count as an additional stream. This will help the song chart to a higher position and every stream counts. If you can also request the radio stations to play the song then that too will help. If you guys are going to join me do this then please give this post a thumbs up so that I will know how many lambs are in this project.

Yes of course I think you are a sweetheart. Just because you didn't like a particular song doesn't suddenly turn you into a hater. Like I said, I respect people more when they can weigh in on the good and bad and it was inevitable that people will be divided in their opinions every time Mariah releases a new song. Just because majority love it doesn't make you a bad person for not liking it. I know you will still have faith in her and you will still try and support her. That's what we lambs do.

Really? (53,052)
by Connor Bethune from United States
| |
|
|
Does no one remember Tokyo? She started out awful in Japan last year and improved exponentially until the last date in Brisbane, and even better at the Beacon Shows. The disappointed "lambs" will eat their words in the next few shows. Seth M said it perfectly, there are too many wolves in sheep's clothing. No other fan base is as negative as Mariah's. I laughed too hard at the "I could sing Vision Of Love better than she could" comment. Mariah will get better, the rudeness needs to stop.

Two complaints though (53,051)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I have two complaints about the show as of now and I think these are very much under Mariah's control so she can make necessary changes. 1) Mariah, honey, lose that Azzedine Alaia dress right this instant. Take it out, and use it to ignite a bon fire if you will. The dress is bad, I mean really bad. What is that collar and that hideous fringe-like what have you at the bottom? No just no, this has to go. Mr. Alaia, what were you thinking? 2) The video dahlin', give me the darn video (ok so this isn't show related per se). But please this time more movements. I saw the preview of the video and yes you look gorgeous, but I only saw you sitting and running towards the camera. I'll admit both shots were gorgeous and I loved the light effect they did when you were running so that it looks like her hair is glowing, but there has to be more. A storyline. You and Brett can make magic happen so please .

Vegas drama (53,049)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
If anyone says anything bad about the Vegas performance, I rebuke it. Haha, no really, I think she put up a great show. Look this show is not for her core lambs only. Many people will be attending the show, some of them may not even know all her 18 #1's and some heard about how she is labelled the songbird supreme and heard her uber popular songs and so they want to witness her magical voice in person. My point is talking about lip-syncing here is pretty pointless, because this show's focus really is to show the "perfect" Mariah to re-introduce her to the world, to the GP. For that they have to ensure that no stones are left unturned when it comes to her putting up a stellar show that will keep people talking. This is Vegas, not a generic Mariah Carey concert. Everything has to be perfect, and since MC's voice is quite unpredictable (because of its fragility) they have to have back up. She can't afford flaws in such a show because people will tear her apart, the GP won't just be fine with MC changing up her songs to suit her current voice. They want the big voiced 90s Mariah. We as fans may want her to sing in her current capacity but GP will want to hear the songs the way they heard it on the radio. If anyone thinks she should sing all her 18 #1's (some of which are the hardest songs ever written) at a go and not lip sync at all, well you are setting up unrealistic expectations. Plus the girl is trying, give her a chance. The world is rejoicing her return, let us also take a moment and be thankful for all the masterpieces she has given us by putting her most valuable asset (her voice) at stake.

Those that are disappointed (53,045)
by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia
| |
|
|
In the midst of disappointment, we have to realize Mariah has given us a catalogue of incrediable music and incrediable vocals that will last a lifetime. Her legacy won't ever be tainted in my eyes because she has already proven herself to me. Mariah isn't/wasn't just an ordinary good singer with an ordinary great voice; her voice was extremely extraordinary meaning the way she excuted songs are unparalleled and is all her. To top it off she worked herself into the ground 10 years straight (singing all over the world and recording album after album non stop). So attempting to sing all her number one hits 100% live and perfect night after night is like doing the "Vocal Olympics". Picture an athlete doing the Olympics after their prime and after sustaining many injures: that's our Mariah in Vegas. I know many singers have been fortunate enough to preserve their voice, but by the same token they don't have to complex voice or vocal situations Mariah has nor do they have the career Mariah had as well, so we can't really judge by comparing her to other singers in my opinion. Now I am against her lipping to the album versions of the song, but like I said before I don't blame her for prerecording her vocals personally, as long as she gives us moments like Thank God I Found You and show she still has it. At this point instead coming down on her (all the time) about her voice not being flawless and consistent, just be appreciative that she has given us her all musically and vocally throughout her career and she's still trying really hard to give us her best. Also consider that perhaps she has given us all that she can at this point. As far as I concerned if she lost her voice from singing her ass off and churning out great albums throughout her career while leaving behind an incredibility classic unforgettable catalogue of music, then I can't be too mad at her, she'll always have my respect.
