You might want to have you ears checked. Or move on. Mariah is slaying in Las Vegas and even her harshest critics are singing her praises and yet your convinced she lipped her entire show. Sad, really.

I bought Infinity, I preordered #1 To Infinity, and Saturday I will be in Las Vegas attending the second night of her residency. I'll always support Mariah Carey. She is slaying. She isn't lipping. She never lost her voice, she lost her confidence. Big difference. She ditched Nick and IDJ and regain her confidence. She's a living legend and she deserves respect. I don't respect some of you opinions because your opinions are always the same: she looks horrible, she sounds horrible and she lipped the high notes, and her songs are horrible. Move on. How you can call yourselves fans let alone lambs is beyond me. Eat some Frito pie, darlings.

The way she is singing this makes me feel like it has more meaning to her now more than ever. Total goosebumps. I can't wait to see what else she produces once she gets comfortable with her surroundings and the songs. Hold onto your knickers dahlings.

Just to explain my previous post. In the video from Good Morning America, Michael Strahan tells Mariah at some point about the supportive comments Nick made about "Infinity". Mariah replied "Oh, it's nice" but you have to hear it to actually experience the shade.

I said that using a pre recorded track in nearly all the whistle notes, and in each "bridge" or "difficult part" is cheating. I didn't say "Mariah is a cheater". Maybe it's not only her decision to use playback. The reason why she sounded yesterday exactly the same as in the snippets from the rehearsal of LTT, Someday, Hero etc. (especially Love Takes Time and Someday and their whistles) is because she recorded those vocals again this year, and she's using them for the Vegas residence. Good. Many people won't notice. Many others like me will do, I complain about the abuse of lipsynching, not even about lipsynching. So I have a personal issue. Thanks. We all do have our issues. Let's move on. What a wonderful version of TGIFY she did.

Mariah is "super mom" (53,039)
by Ardis Logic from Earth

Mariah said "I feel like the most important thing is how the kids grow up. They're human beings and they have to be treated as such. They're sensitive and they're going to feel any kind of tension. So, for me, it's not about how I deal with anything. It's about how they're going to feel after the day is over and they're going to sleep at night, you know what I mean." That is so awesome. There are so many people that don't show that much care and concern for their kids. I think maybe it stems from her own childhood experiences, and she does not want those kids to grow up having the same negative experiences that she had. She is so inspiring. What an amazing woman she is on so many levels.

Hi Gary, welcome on this board, nice to have you here. Although you just posted here for the first time I already have to disagree with you. I don't think it's Mariah who has to accept that her voice is not as strong as it once was, I think it's the fans who have to do just that. I think Mariah is fully aware, see where she came from (Japan, Rockefeller or Jamaica) and see what she has delivered yesterday. I believe she has worked very hard not to give her fans another disappointment and she has satisfied most of us (including me) and most of the critics. I think partly lipsyncing and some pretaping is just part of this game, not only Mariah does it but Celine, Shania, Rihanna, Beyonce or Katy (to name a few) do exactly the same thing. I'd say for some of us it's time to just accept this, loosen up and try a bit more to enjoy what Mariah is giving us these days.

I sometimes believe that there are people on this board who come here pretending to be lambs. A true fan will never judge MC. Some of you are making suggestions as if you are music critics and trained professionals. If you have such suggestions, then go and record your own album and see if you can attain even half the success that MC has. Just give her a break please. Baby1989 has the audacity to say that she is cheating. Obviously, you don't realize the stress that she will encounter if she sings all the songs live. I said let Jamaica go. The rest of the world has moved on but it seems that you are stuck in the past languishing in negativity. Live in the present and the real music critics have given very positive reviews for her Vegas performance. You are not a music journalists so take your negative comments and shove it. There is also an idot who said that the show looks like a circus. Obviously this person does not know what a class act entails and what Vegas performance standards are. Visually, this has been her best production and the joke is on the clown who thinks that it looks like a circus. Stop criticizing and just enjoy her current success. If you think that she cannot sing anymore then go be a J.Lo fan and leave Mariah alone. You cannot expect someone who put out albums year after year and who use her voice to sing for 25 years to sound exactly the same now. At least she is still recording and performing as an artist unlike others.

Did I disrespect you? Did I disrespect Mariah? Then why do you insult me by saying I have mental problems? You clearly didn't read well my post. Tell me when did I use the word "hate" or when did I say I didn't like anything Mariah does. By the way no one's saying Mariah should sound like back in the 90's, if people complain is because they want something real and I complain about the lipsynching abuse. [Webmaster: Yes, you did disrepect Mariah, you called her a cheater. If that isn't clear to you, than indeed you have some personal issues.]

Was sat at the front for opening night... haters leave (53,030)
by John john from UK

I'm not bothering to read most reviews or comments on here today. This is because rather than sit and listen to recordings or snippets on YouTube, I got my arse down to Vegas to support Mariah. I travelled from the UK. I can tell you that 95% of the show was live. She sounded amazing. The audience was loving it. Everyone left with a smile and how much they'd enjoyed the show. The stage was beautiful and Mariah looked great. I am glad she hasn't been pressured to really slim down. She's not in her 30's anymore and has 2 kids. She looked great. Best costume was the Honey segment. It was pretty funny too, to see her come out on a jet ski. Vocally I think Mariah was spot on. She really tried and you could see her absorbing the band and taking her time with it. Hero was an especially awesome moment. I will give a better review when I'm back next week (to whom may care) but until then I have to get married here and 2 more Mariah shows to go.

Las Vegas opening show (53,028)
by Gary from United Kingdom
| |
|
|
Ok so this is my first ever post. I am a massive MC fan but I'm not sure Vegas is going to benefit her after watching the clips available of the first show. She needs to accept and admit that she simply cannot sing exactly like she did 20-25 years ago. There were some great moments and she can clearly still sing many other singers under the table but there is a lot of exposure to the decline in her vocal dexterity, ability to perform runs etc. She seems to be able to use the whistle register pretty well but her voice cannot handle the old songs to the same degree. This is to be expected in some singers with age I guess, but then other singers like Cher for example seem to have still maintained their voice. Maybe it will improve as she "gets into her shows" but I'm worried as she is still very much inconsistent and avoids some of the big belts that she was known for. It's hard for me to critique her because I still think she is legendary and has an amazing out of this world voice but I do feel she is a bit delusional in the fact that she believes she can hit every note like she used to. As you can see from my avatar my fav song is her cover of IWTKWLI, let's hope she will get even better as the shows go on.

Don't judge (53,027)
by Webmaster Eric from the Netherlands

Please don't judge fans like MC1989 from Spain, instead pity him. Imagine studying a singer for the last 20 years and all you can do is hate almost everything she does. Isn't that just sad? Also pity his family, because they have to live with someone who clearly has some personal issues. I hope he will get some help soon, before it's too late.

Mariah will never win (53,026)
by Cgee54 from Usa

Do I think Mariah voice was perfect yesterday? No. Do I think she can do better? Yes. Many of you guys are suggesting that she should rework all her old songs with different arrangements and lower the key, which I'm for it. However, if you put yourself in someone else's shoes, someone who is not a Mariah fan. Do you think you'll buy that? If general public go see Mariah in concert is because they expect to hear the songs and the notes the way she sang them on record. Look at TMZ, just because she hit the whistle notes almost exactly like did in the 90s, she's a beast and she is killing ect. Let face it, Mariah is becoming a victim of her own self. There's no win situation for her, if she lowers the key she lost it, if she sings raspy she lost it, if she rearranges the songs she lost it. I'm just glad she still has a voice left inside her after all these years of singing and constant bickering. This is nothing new, she has always been criticized about her voice.

Vegas / vocals / delusion (53,025)
by Jake from New Zealand
| |
|
|
First off, I think she did fine. LTT, IDWC and TGIFY were the highlights. Dreamlover and Vision Of Love were messes. The rest was okay, except for Fantasy, which she yet again lipped. But this is only the first show. She still has a lot of time to improve (like she did on the last tour and on the Beacon Theatre shows). I hope she keeps practicing (especially on VOL, because it was cringe worthy to be honest). Furthermore, I think it's stupid to expect her to sound like she did in the 90's. Who sounds the same after more than 20 years? I understand people wanting her best, but some people are just straight up delusional. The only thing I hated was the costumes, which looked super cheap. I also hope she changes them in the future.

I love all the nostalgia. Especially the Honey ensamble, I think she sounded fine. We all need to accept that she will never have the same voice she had back in 1990, she still sounds great and better than every other pop girl out there (except for Britney).

I simply don't like cheating (53,015)
by MC1989 from Spain
| |
|
|
I defended Mariah many times and I still think that she has a good voice when she uses it propperly. I can understand that singing those difficult songs 100% live for 2 hours is nearly impossible, but to use pre-recorded vocals in nearly each song is too much. That's called cheating. All those good reviews that you mention are written by people who haven't "studied" Mariah as much as I've been doing for nearly two decades. Yesterday she didn't hit a single live whistle note. She didn't sound comfortable even during the "easy" parts. She was struggeling most of the time. I'm not one of those who say she can't sing live anymore, I hope she does better in her next concert, but listen, there's no need of pretending to be one of the greatest voices, she is a legend, so she should move on and stop trying desperately to belt and recording songs that she can't sing 100% live. I love Mariah, but for God's sake, she did Fantasy 100% playback and you tell me not to mention the Jamaica incident? This is not about resting her voice (which of course is important), it isn't about having a bad day (we can all have many bad days). It's about being honest and facing her current voice. She can start by re-adapting all of her classics as she did with TGIFY, amazing idea. She could work regularly with a vocal coach rehearse more and more instead of lying on the beach in the Bahamas weeks before the show. Lipsynching that much will ruin her reputation as a good singer and I want her to succeed.

I love Mariah but (53,013)
by Gilles from Malta
| |
|
|
First I want to say that I am not a hater, I love Mariah. I just do not know her as a person, so I do not judge her life or giving advice or predicting. I've just lost the connection as we said, not long time ago the identification. I know that she has a beautiful voice and she still has it. I support her work as a gifted artist who writes, produces, co produces and sings. As a fan (not a lamb) I would say it is like living in a illusion. The concert is like a circus (but the entertainment is very nice). I am not one of those who like to be fooled between playback, pre recorded and real raw voice (but I am conscious that every famous artists does it). I would prefer paying for a real concert and not for a mirage. I am not stuck about the old Mariah, but I expect for something real, and to be real she can not perform 2 hours songs like in the past, this is reality. I will always buy her work because I know in some perfect condition that she can be what she was and is. But the concert in Vegas is a big Joke. "You've gotta to be real" MC like the song.

TGIFY rework and voice (53,012)
by Jono from USA
| |
|
|
This turned out to be the surprise of the night. TGIFY is actually my least favorite of the #1s, but the smoky stripped version she did was gorgeous. As famed as Mariah is for her power ballads, I think if she went in the low key direction it would be good for not only maintaining her voice but also her performances. She sounded great last night, better than she has in a while, but it's obvious to everyone that she won't replicate her 90s voice. And I've accepted that. She can't keep up with the ultimate standards she set, so there's no point in chasing that and straining. It's time that we all, Mariah included, accept that those 90s recordings were a moment in time. She has countless performances to preserve that legacy. Those bombastic high notes are signature Mariah and always will be, no one can take that away. Moving forwards, instead of looking back at the prime vocal years, she can work with what she has to her advantage, because then she won't suffer from the constant comparisons. She still has a solid voice with the right song and arrangement. As proven by the TGIFY remake, her current voice can still sound like liquid gold.
