I Am... A Singer (48,410) by nikki from usa
At the end of the day it comes down to what drives you. A lot of "artists" then and now are more about performing and being seen than the music. It's a means to an end. Mariah is a music machine in human form. People love to categorize people and put them in boxes, but MC lacks definition. She's not known for just one style of music and isn't given credit for 90% of her contributions to the industry. This is why people are shocked she's still around and expect her to kick the career bucket any minute... for the last 13 years. Mariah will always be around because creating music is a driving force. It's simply apart of who she is. She's not going to wake up one day and stop being Mariah. No matter how many times she takes a break or goes away, she'll always have a "comeback" because it's in her to create music. The only thing up for debate is what musical form she takes when she does.

My opinion (48,407) by Anonymous from
Ok so I have read a lot of comments on Twitter, YouTube, etc, etc. Really. People make the biggest drama just because MC couldn't reach some high notes in that cold winter night at Rockefeller (and I think NBC made that reveange). I wonder why when nowadays singers couldn't reach or lipsynch their own notes, anybody says nothing but when it comes about Mariah, everybody claims for perfection. She hasn't lost her voice, it's just that her voice has turned fragile that she can't sing easily like she did back in the 90's. In fact even in the 90's there were some times that she couldn't reach some high notes too, but YouTube wasn't part of our lives. I remember that she said that sometimes "she couldn't reach even one octave". Her voice is complex and she's been under so much stress this year (I have to say that this year has to be one of her worst in personal life, business). But you know what really upset me is that people don't recognize anything of what she gets in her life, all her records and influence in most of female singers means nothing to people and that's sad. In my heart I will always support her and understand that she is a human being that have good and bad days like me or you and I'm not talking as a lamb but a human being.

Delusional (48,404) by Carol from Spain
A lot has been said about being delusional and here are my 2 cents about it: it's ok not to agree with everything she does. We shouldn't be complacent, but it's not ok to judge her by calling yourself fans and after that criticize everything she does. That's not cool at all. Musically you should always expect the best, because Mariah never delivers anything less. And when she doesn't reach the top of the charts don't bother simply because its the fans' fault. She releases and you should buy it, but you don't so things happen. For me, you become delusional when you compare her voice to 20 years ago or when you compare her positions on the charts to 20 years ago. No one can mantain herself on top that long and expect for things to continue forever. Mariah should be able to relax now and I don't think her own fans are making it easier for her because you're always on the woman's case for every single little thing.

Rockefeller 2014 (48,403) by Carol from Spain
Mariah's NY performance was very good. It wasn't perfect, but it was better than the one she gave last year in that cute white ensemble. People in general are the problem because they got that 20 year old version stuck in their heads (and that's ok) and they forget that live it's awhole different story, addind to that the fact the song is being sung 20 years after. People expect too much of Mariah and that is fine but be realistic because no one maintains their voice the same forever. Besides that, Mariah was sick I believe.

Breaking point (48,402) by Carol from Spain
I wonder what's Mariah's breaking point. She's been trough so much crap and she still pushes trough. It takes guts to do that without resourcing to drugs or alcohol.

Mariah Christmas concert and others (48,401) by Gilles from Malta
I would only say one single thing, MC is always full of surprises. She is strong and always been through a lot. There will always be bad and good . It is like the yin and the yang and it depends which energy we feed more. MC always feeds me with good vibes. Regarding bad in all her career and performances there are not that much. People who are criticizing, focus on the bad and never see the good. Peace.

Opinions / feelings / facts and what not (48,400) by MimiLamb from Germany
I totally agree with you LC. Giving constructive criticism is totally okay and doesn't make a person a hater. Just as it doesn't make someone delusional for still believing in Mariah. I think the difference is are you giving constructive criticism or are you bashing/being disrespectful? I think it's funny to see that some are only here the moment something negative is going on, the minute all is fine you don't see any messages from them. That gives an indication of what kind of person they are, and what their role is here on this messageboard. Second an opinion doesn't make it a fact. If some think Mariah is over and done with that's fine, that's your opinion, excuse a lot of us for not seeing it like that. It's getting old to see that some think what they say goes and what others say is BS or delusional.

B and Abraham / Mariah (48,399) by Marcus from Brazil
B and Abraham, it is so nice to see two lambs fall in love on MCArchives. I've always known there was something about you two. I even thought you guys were the same person, but now with B's confession I see there was some cyber-spiritual connection between you two. As for Mariah, the fact that her name can still cause such a stir means that she's still very relevant. There's not such thing as bad press, since AIWFCIY is still climbing. The tree lighting performance has shifted people's attention to Mariah, now is her time to capitalize on it. I'm pretty sure if Mariah warms up enough, she might deliver a consistent performance. Practice makes perfect, and she has a studio home. If she karaokes her songs before rehearsal, she would be just fine.

B (48,397) by Abraham from USA
Well thanks, that's nice of you. I also enjoy the performance. I think she sang the intro great. She showcased those vocals and range she's known for. People are being too critical and making it more than it is. Some don't realize how fragile Mariah's voice is. If her voice was gone, she wouldn't have sang the intro so well. I also think that some people who know how great her voice is expect her to always sound amazing and flawless but forget that she's only human and can't always deliver a spectacular performance even though she has the majority of her career. Mariah doesn't have to set foot on another stage, or sing another note. She's already proved herself as a singer. The fact that her voice has lasted as long as it has is amazing. I honestly think the ones who are bashing her don't deserve a performance from her. And she shouldn't be giving any if this is the thanks she's going to be getting. What other female today has a voice like Mariah's? Or can sing as good as her? If some want Ariana Grande, they can have her. I'll take Mariah at her worst any day.

Marilyn Monroe (48,396) by Lee TS from USA
This is not meant to be a downer but it's always something that made me go hmmm. I don't know if it's Mariah's obsession and love for Marilyn or what became of for some of these iconic stars. But have you guys noticed how Mariah kinda talks about herself sometimes as if she's going to die young? Just basing this off memory but her saying Nick taught her to live life to the fullest, her telling Rosie she didn't think she'll see her 40's, or that she'll survive the Tommy/Sony situation. And when she said that dembabies gave her a reason to live, it brought me there for a moment instead of basking in happiness. Also, I don't wanna get hate for this but when I read someone thought Mariah looked 10 years younger at Rockefeller I actually disagree. I kinda thought she looked her age although fabulous and gorgeous. I don't know if it was because she was in incredible shape or was incredibly happy but the last time I thought she looked 10 years younger was at the last vow renewal in Disneyland. She was perfection.

Legendary divas (48,395) by Lee TS from USA
And regarding another subject about legendary divas like Diana, Barbra, Celine, Cher, Patti, Aretha and many more. Their status is cemented and are the ones that can't be bothered. I hope this doesn't sound shady but I believe Mariah is still very vital and hasn't crossed over to the other side yet. Mariah can still compete in the charts today and is a huge force in the music industry, she's not ready to do a residency, sing compilation albums, or be doing any farewell tours just yet. And I don't want her to go in hiding like Janet, but I wouldn't mind if she takes some time off to work out her personal life and enjoy being a mommy. It would be great to see her find love again, maybe a billionaire who's not in showbiz that makes her feel like a high school girl on a first date. Though music will always be Mariah's first love, it would be neat to see her do more acting in critically acclaimed roles. The possibilities are endless.

TiffMelody / Shelly (48,394) by Lee TS from USA
Thank you guys for posting, it was really nice reading your messages. What stood out for me with Tiff was when you wrote the measure in greatness of an artist is by the influence they've made, that was so powerful. Now with Ariana, I like her and I would consider myself a fan though at times I like to hate on her too just because. The way I see it, she's a product of Mariah's music and influence so if you don't like her blame Mariah. Here's a young beautiful girl who grew up probably idolizing Mariah wanting to be just like her and is blessed with a great voice, and now that she's made it she constantly gets bashed for it. Mariah is probably like her Aretha. Didn't a young girl with crazy curls sang a tribute to the incomparable queen when she first debuted? What was that song again, "Don't Play That Song For Me"? Lol. But yes, what Mariah needs are new fans like the annoying arianators that are constantly on social media promoting and supporting the artist. Mariah's presence on twitter and instagram is not huge, the amount of retweets and likes she gets is considerably low. Ok so I guess I was "trolling" or whatever but I found it adorable when I was reading between two young lambs, they had to be in junior high to high school ages. But one of the lambs said he became a fan when Triumphant came out and the other lamb found it hilarious it was that song that "turned" him. I found it incredibly cute and precious and to think they've only been a fan for 2 years. Crazy.

I enjoyed Mariah's Rockefeller performance. I can hear just fine thank you. Listen to the clips from the opening night of her tour and the audio of her vocals from this performance. It's a vast improvement which means she's doing something right.

Hello (48,390) by B from USA
Mariah did it first. I Still Believe came out in 1998. She has done countless homages to Marilyn. I Still Believe recreated MM's visit of the troops during the Korean war and Don't Forget About Us recreated her nude pool scene from the last film she worked on Something's Got To Give. Christina didn't really emulate Marilyn she was doing or going for the 40's Jean Harlow look. Just saying. Mariah's obsession with Marilyn is well documented. During her "breakdown" it was rumored that she believed Marilyn was communicating with her through her piano, lol.

Andrew, I don't like to single people out but I wanted you to feel what it feels like when someone tells you, "You're the problem." I apologize if I was too harsh or if I offended you. We all have opinions and just because we say something doesn't make it true. That goes for me too.

Re: Andrew (post 48,367) (48,387) by Dove from USA
Andrew I think *you* are the problem. People are pointing out the flaws in Mariah's performance because they are bullies and want her out. And it wasn't just pointing out, it was big news with contorted images and all. Why does she have to stop just because people tell her to? What if she still has more to give or she doesn't want to stop? She went on national television to sing the greatest Christmas song of all time for the fans, because some of us still want to hear it, flaws and all. AIWFCIY is one of the most difficult songs to sing. We believe Mariah can still deliver great performances because we've heard her do it over and over this past year. Her legacy is not damaged and either is her voice. You say her voice is "irreparable" but the professional in the news segment (post 48,337) said her days of hitting the high notes are not necessarily over. I think I'm going to go with his opinion over yours. As far as her legacy, there's nothing a little good PR can't fix. She's come back from worse before.

1950s glamour (48,386) by Ken from USA
Wouldn't Mariah get ripped to shreds for copying Christina Aguilera's Back To Basics look? That's what my first thoughts were anyway lol. I would love to see her pull it off though.

Buy multiple albums (48,385) by Dove from USA
I went to lunch with a friend I hadn’t seen in a while and she asked me if I had seen the story about Mariah’s performance. She saw it on the main MSNBC page and thought about me. (The day after the Rockefeller performance, my email blew up with emails from friends I hadn’t heard from in months because they were all thinking about me. Ha ha.) I told her I did see it and asked her if she had heard Mariah’s latest album. She said she hadn’t heard any songs from it and mentioned she only listens to songs that are on the radio, or music her 11 and 13 year old daughters buy. I imagine this is probably common. A lot of my peers have multiple kids now and hardly buy anything frivolous for themselves anymore. I think for those of us who can afford to, if we bought multiple copies of her new album when it’s released, we could find somebody to give them to. I have friends who were huge Mariah fans but now they’re just focused on their kids and don’t buy things for themselves. There's go to be a way to have people buy Mariah's music again.
