Morgan (49,908)
by Ardis Logic from Earth

What got my attention was this: "Morgan who modelled in Italy back in the mid and late 80s and worked prior to that in the NY Night life including at the coveted Studio 54 where legend has it he brought Mariah when she was only eleven years old." Who in their right mind would take an 11 year old girl to such a place. All it was there was sex, drugs, and more sex and drugs. Certainly not a place you would take someone you love or care about. The lyric from "Close My Eyes" comes to mind: "And I learned many things little ones shouldn't know." Doesn't sound like a very nice "brother" to me.

Such a neat article and it's awesome to see he has a great relationship with M. I love how he's very behind the scenes and is just her brother. Some mentioned about the Wendy W radio interview and I remember Wendy asking what's Morgan's role in her camp. M simply responded he's her brother and they had spent Thanksgiving in Japan or something. Good to see he's doing well and he even has a veggie garden for M.

I see your point, and this is probably what all the "retire" crowd are missing. They forget she is human, and, like every single one of us in this world, is dealing with her own problems and struggles every day. Mariah's world has come crashing down around her. She has lost her husband, for all we know he may be trying to get custody of her precious children, if not, they face the prospect of being raised by a single parent just as she was. And yet people stand here and complain about her lip syncing and call her an alcoholic (not you, but messages in general lately). It is frankly awful and disgusting to speak about anybody in that matter. Mariah isn't thick skinned. She is a warm, beautiful, caring, insecure and vulnerable woman. The fact her supporters can so quickly write her off and post such heartless and callous messages about her during her lowest moments leaves me lost for words. It honestly does. I just pray that Mariah will never read these messages, because that fragile flower that she is would be devastated if she ever did. I will support Mariah as much as I can through this period. I have always loved her and always will. I loved her from the moment I first saw her (the Dreamlover video). I knew right then, at 9 years old, how special she was, and she has remained so dear to me to this day, and will continue to until my last.

As usual, your light-hearted humor cracks me up. Lol. Reminds me of Mariah's wit. Remember when she joked in an interview about calling the album after Rainbow, "Unicorn" or something close? I can't remember the exact show she was on, but it was funny. Thanks for the laughs.

Reconditioning "the voice" (49,903)
by Heinrich from South Africa
| |
|
|
Despite her rescent mishaps, I wan to point out that Mariah's upper and middel chest belts are sounding a lot healthier and fluid lately. Coming from someone who has had nodules twice, Mariah's current voice does not sound like someone who has nodules or any seriouse vocal injury to me. In my opinion her voice has simply fallen back into a "diamond in the rough" state, due to a lack of training and practice. She can sound like her former self, if she reconditions her voice to meet the techinical demands of her songs live again. That being said, it is clear to me that she has been practicing her voice, so I'm not too discouraged by the Jamaica fiasco.

I can only speak based on how I feel, but for me it isn't about this "bad performance" or that "bad performance". Mariah could stop singing today and I will always be a fan. Her music has been the soundtrack to my life, and although I don't "know her", I've always felt a connection with her as a human being beyond the fame. People keep focusing on the career, the next album and the shows in Vegas. But, something just feels very off. Now, I'm not claiming MC is a raging alcoholic, I'm not saying I have all the answers, but I am feeling someone dealing with a lot. Doing the best to push past pain. We can't paint smiles and rainbows on things unresolved and expect them to resolve. I think she's doing her best to cope but is clearly not happy right now. That's what comes through loud and clear when I watch her perform. No it isn't all horrible. But, that pain is constantly there, no matter how upbeat she appears. That's what I think Nathan was getting at. For the record, I really don't feel he sold her out to get attention, I think he was asked a direct question because MC is all over the media, and he answered as a friend who cares and wants to see her thriving for the joy of it again.

Very interesting (49,899)
by Giselle #1 Mariah Critic from USA

Oh how things are different. I've been saying for awhile that Mariah has problems that need to be worked on. I see a few people are now coming on aboard now. Mariah has been working hard since 18 when she first got her record deal. Tommy never let her take a break. He also didn't help with her insecurities, he made them worse. Until this day she still hates her left side. The biggest problem is Mariah doesn't know how to turn off being Mariah Carey. She's never taken a true break. She always ends up working. She's never just laid low and pulled a Adele or Sade or Celine. Mariah Carey is always on. She also has a drinking problem, she needs to really sign up for therapy and finally deal with the past issues and everything. By 45 she should feel comfortable with herself and know who she is. She doesn't, she's more of a mess now then when she was younger. This is worse then Glitter. She needs to work on her confidence. I say that as someone who needs to do the same. I feel very bad for her, she's worked so hard and it breaks my heart for people to call one of the biggest selling female artist in history a has been or needs to retire. You can tell she doesn't even care anymore. Nobody is destroying her legacy but Mariah.

I don't understand (49,897)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
I really don't understand all this chipping away at Mariah. She did a bad performance at the Tree Lighting ceremony yet completely came back with the Beacon shows, which were fantastic. TECS got off to a ropey start but by the time her bronchitis went she was sounding great. She messed up lipping a song she has probably never sung live (even in her peak), more than likely because of a technical issue. Hardly cause for retirement. If you don't like Mariah as she is, then let go. It's not easy, in fact it can be exceedingly hurtful, but there's an art to it.

William / Edward (49,896)
by Travon..SweetSweetFantasy from USA

William, I think that is the best idea I have heard in awhile. Mariah has been taking fan suggestions and answering questions on twitter all week. You and Edward should both suggest this on her twitter. I will. Better chance she will see it if we all did it. Edward did you mean 2 sets of 9 songs with a 4 hour break in between or 4 minutes in between songs? I am very curious on many simple topics and it will drive me crazy if I don't solve the curiosity. Just like trying to remember a song, I will spend hours researching and not think to do anything else. That's how I find things online that most miss.

William, that's a great idea. One look for each #1. With breaks of four hours in between songs, so Mariah could change wigs, get her make up done, rest her voice, sips her tea, and warm up.

Last one. You should have included the clip because I don't think I've seen the one with the puppies. People who watch MTV are typically teens and young adults. That demographic also enjoys alcohol, looking good (lighting), puppies, and movies such as Mean Girls. She was more serious on shows targeting the more mature. I don't think she mentioned Mean Girls on Larry King. I agree with you on the rambling, I also wondered about that. I don't see anything wrong with her wanting special lighting, she knows her status and that people will be watching these clips for years to come. There is nothing wrong with putting our best foot forward. Love and light.

Awesome #1's live in Vegas concert idea (49,889)
by William from Philippines
| |
|
|
While listening to ABMB an idea suddenly came up lol for her concert like she's doing all of her #1's which is like a tribute to her career, right? I hope she changes her looks depending on the song that she's doing like when she starts with Vision Of Love, she's dressed up as the old Mariah with the curls and simple black dress and when she's going to sing Honey she goes up for that sexy look with straight hair. When she's going to sing WBT she's gonna look like TEOM era and when TMB is on, she's gonna look like E=MC2 era with a pink yet lavender ensemble. Just my 2 cents lol.

The Fantasy lip sync fail is unforgivable to many fans and the public certainly won't forgive it nor forget it. You must be half deaf to think that the other performances were "solid" and believe me, she didn't need to adlib to ensure we knew she was singing live. We knew it was live by how awful the whole thing sounded.

I'm ashamed Mariah can't lip synch a song she wrote and has performed hundreds of times. I'm ashamed she sings horrible when she sings live. I'm ashamed that I've seen better stage productions from high school talent shows. I'm ashamed Mariah walked off stage in the middle of a performance. I'm ashamed that Mariah had an MTV special dedicated to her new album and she rambled on about alcohol, lighting, her puppies, and Mean Girls.

I do not believe Mariah ruined her voice by using drugs or alcohol. Her voice was strained from the relentless recording and promoting she did in the 90's. When rested and exercised she can still deliver live vocally. The Fantasy lip sync debacle is forgivable because she sounded solid during her other performances adlibbing to make sure we knew she was singing live. If she sang Fantasy live it would ruin her voice. Calm down. I'm ashamed to be a member of this board.

Lee / of course she will (49,885)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Lee, Mariah's residency in Vegas won't be a five-night in a row type of thing, she'll perform three non consecutive nights a week, and it won't be all year around. She'll have time to rest her voice between shows and warm up. Of course she will lipsync here and there, she's only human. The problem is that it should be done with grace and professionalism. I know she wants the show to center on her voice, but that's not excuse to have a production with a lifeless stage. The stage at the Madison Square Garden was full of life, the lights would change sometimes with the mood of the song, she looked great. Nowadays we don't have any of that, the only thing we usually see is a dark uninspired background, except for the Beacon Christmas shows, where the production was great. She partially lipped at Beacon Theater, but she did it right and that's what counts. If some thought MIAMTEC was a make or break album, now we know for sure that her Vegas residency will be.

Response to Jon (49,884)
by ADAM from USA

|
If my post came across as attacking her as a human being then that was not the intended effect. I was only giving my complete observation about her from a period in time we can all remember and comment on. Clearly if I didn't like her since '98 then I would not be on this website nor have purchased any of her music nor watched her on TV/web after Butterfly. I am still a fan of hers and would rank MIAM as one of her best albums in her career. That being said, I think it's acceptable for one to be a fan and objective about a celebrity at the same time. I hope this post clears any confusion I may have created about my intent. I just think of myself as a fan who loves Mariah for what she was in the past and also what she is now. I just no longer have patience for the BS she spins during live shows and interviews when I think its inauthentic and unfair to us as viewers. This is why I'm not going to Vegas yet until I hear the feedback from fans and critics alike that it's a worthy enough venture to shell out my hard earned money. I think having a standard of behavior for artists to uphold to is healthy when one is required to commit their time and money in support of any artist. Thanks again for your comments Jon I find them insightful to the board. Cheers.

I think there is a difference between attacking the performer and the human being. She is at the lowest point of her life. You're kicking her when she is down and then you turn and say "Btw I haven't liked you for almost 20 years." That's not ok. Mariah post 97/98 is the real Mariah. That's the one I would like to hang out with. Not some fabricated star that looks one dimensional. And you know what? That same Mariah wrote Petals and I wish you well (better than anything she wrote before), gave amazing live performances and gave us great albums that we could party and have fun with but could also listen to in times of need. If you haven't liked Mariah since 97/98 you don't like Mariah. You like the black dresses singing without Mariah. I only think there is something truly wrong since last year. If your husband is having affairs with younger women how are you not gonna be insecure? (At least that's what it seems that happened.)

What's a girl to do? (49,879)
by Lee from UK
| |
|
|
"It should come as no surprise that music icon Mariah Carey has been battling vocal issues for the last year" and the rest. This has been going on for a number of years. I honestly can't believe it has taken so long for the general public and the media to become wise to this. Mariah has been having vocal troubles for much longer. Of course it was all going to come crashing down eventually. Of course Mariah would get caught out in this day and age of social media, content on demand, YouTube and the availability of anyone, anywhere being able to record and upload an event in minutes of it occurring. I really hope Nathan Morris' words hit home with Mariah. But of course, there is no way in hell that Mariah is going to perform live night after night in Vegas. Not one little chance. Her voice is too fragile and she can't risk having a thousand videos popping up on the internet of her sounding rough. So what's a girl to do?
