Walked by fear (49,875) by Andy from Germany
The human voice ages as well as the body does. That's evident. It is a muscle that can be trained and build up but as the other muscles in your body will eventually loose their strength with age so does the voice. And there is nothing you can do about that. And it is fine. It is part of the journey of life. Now, certainly the process is pushed by stress, low or no exercise, alcohol, smoking etc. We are all humans and we have our struggles, failures and fears. We all make mistakes. So, Mariah may treated her voice badly. But I think that's what makes her also human. She is not a machine, nor are we still living in the 90's. I love Joni Mitchell and her change of voice throughout the decades, for instance. I'd love to see Mariah embrace this fact as well. I don't need her to keep up with a voice and face that doesn't exist anymore. That's all.

Andrew / mental issue (49,874) by May from Denmark
Thanks for clarifying Andrew, I thought you were meaning as she being cuckoo haha. I never saw her "wacko" act back then as a mental problem (be it truly mental or related to stress), I saw it as her being spontaneous and felt she was trying to be herself in front of the cameras, as before she was conducted all the time by Tomy Mottola (how to behave in interviews, what to say, how to dodge questions, to keep it "inside", etc). So it was fun. I think her cracking was evident because she was not the usual self she was showing us, she was more like hyper multi-dozens-revolutions-per-minute. She clearly was lacking sleep, being sleep deprive is practically like being drunk, then she collapsed. She admitted sleeping only as much as three hours per day in the Glitter era. But I agree with you that her diva act became too obvious. I felt she started having "airs of extreme grandeur" when she was selected for the VH1 Divas. At first I thought it was more than well deserved, but then the act went too far. She joked in the beginning but what it seemed as a joke became part of her. The lighting, the lounge couch on stage, the fixing of hair, make up, etc. when not even needed. I liked more when she came up with things like fun cartoons, ripping jeans for comfort, alter-egos, girlie girl stuff. The diva thing has not gone since many years.

Awwie, I will still be on the look for it as I've never really heard any of the interviews with Wendy Williams. Mostly because I just don't like the way Wendy interviews people, she is always pushy, hides hate into jokes, etc. It's just plain awful. I guess it can't be avoided anymore haha. But Mariah sounded very sweet in that 2005 TEOM one, I liked how she called Wendy on the face on some stuff, she is very brave and honest when she wants to. Mariah can definitely defend herself pretty well.

Nathan's message (49,871) by May from Denmark
I'm not sure if he was referring as Mariah wanting to be the "old Mariah". I think he meant more like in the sense of wanting to sing for real again, quote: "I feel bad for her because I know what she can be, but she has to want to be that again." I felt he meant wanting to be there and wanting to be doing it. I have this impression that lately it's almost as if she doesn't want to be there. While for the Christmas Beacon she seemed to have given it all, probably was because of all the calls after that mediocre Tree Lighting performance. It's like if she is not poked about it, she doesn't do much effort. In Jamaica she even ate candy or something like that while performing "Shake it off", in the middle of the song, so part of the lyrics sounded all funny. Talking about the "Shake it off" performance, while I loved things about it she sounded as if she sang that song with anger, probably because the lyrics were heartfelt. Or is it only me who has this idea? Going back to topic, I think Nathan was honest and that is nice to see. He was decent in the way he delivered his message, it didn't sound as a negative judgement but more like an call of attention from a fellow professional who knows Mariah in the work environment personally. If Kelly Price wouldn't have been so awful in the way she expressed herself, perhaps more people would have paid attention to what she had to say. She is known as a mean person, so I can't take her seriously. Nathan is different.

Whatever happened to empathy? (49,869) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
How convenient that just a few weeks after Mariah announces her Las Vegas residency all of a sudden Nate has so much to say about how hard it's gonna be: yada yada yada. I guess it's just a coincidence that Boyzi II Men are in the middle of their own residency the second year in a row, right? People don't do things like post disparaging things on Facebook without a reason, without it benefitting them in some way. It's not because he cares about Mariah Carey's wellbeing. When is the last time a good friend and college of yours from work, with a lot less success that isn't even singularly theirs, made a FB post telling everyone you know that you don't do your job well and potential clients should be made aware of it? This is why we can't have nice things.

Nathan Morris (49,867) by Bill from the UK
I'm sorry but publicly calling Mariah out like that is low rent and is just a cry for attention. If Nate was any kind of friend to Mariah he would take his concerns to her privately and not publish it on his Facebook for everybody to see. Mariah would never, ever do that to one of her peers. "So many I'd considered closest to me, turned on a dime and sold me out dutifully".

Stuck in a moment, trying to make fetch happen (49,866) by Dove from USA
One thing that would be radically different and unexpected would be if MC released a covers album. I know she's said she doesn't like doing covers, but she could change her mind. I gathered from reading comment sections the GP enjoys her voice but not the type of music she's been making. I know before I denied it because I got embarrassed, but I lied, I do want her to make a covers album. If anybody knows her, please pass on my list. I had posted a list before, with some of these songs, but I thought about it more and made some changes. (I have to at least put my dream out there.) These are the songs I want to hear sung by Mariah Carey, the best voice of our time.
01. Time - Pink Floyd
02. Live and Let Die - Paul McCartney
03. Pictures of You - The Cure
04. Stuck In a Moment - U2
05. Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon and Garfunkel
06. Let it Be - The Beatles
07. Here - Kari Jobe
08. Good Vibrations - The Beach Boys (change "she" to "you")
09. At My Most Beautiful - REM
10. Ordinary World - Duran Duran
11. Waltz (Better Than Fine)- Fiona Apple
12. Everything Is Sound - Jason Mraz
13. Three Little Birds - Bob Marley
14. Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What A Wonderful World - Israel Kamakawiwo?ole
15. Smile - Nat King Cole
16. You and I - Stevie Wonder
17. We Are the Champions - Queen
18. Feeling Good - Nina Simone

I'm not sure if you're trolling or serious. Your post is grossly exaggerated though. I want to get upset and argue with you but I think instead I'll take Jewel's advice and no longer lend my strength to that which I wish to be free from.

I'm happy to see how the discussion is going (49,864) by Gilbert from USA
Everyday I come by to check and see the feedback and sometimes I want to be sad about it but I'm not that fan I used to be. I care enough to say that enough is enough. I can't stand by and coddle every bad move she makes. It wasn't as if this is something that's new, it's something she continued to do and gets sloppy each time she performs. Isn't it suprising she hasn't come to defend herself? If that was me if be totally embarrassed. All I know is she is going down hill and little by little as it gets closer to the Las Vegas residency she better have a good team with her because the last thing she needs is to be fired from her residency. I have tickets to go, I was excited but her actions lately are pissing me off. $400.00 to watch a show that might be pre-recorded would be very upsetting. I think for anyone attending her show would be furious if that's what she has left. The thing I believe I mentioned before is she has talent, I'm sure she could rearrange her vocals and music so it can match up to her voice. I don't care if the song doesn't sound the same as the track, I'm smart enough to know that her voice isn't going to match up to what it sounded like 25 years ago. She has the talent to still use her vocal skills to give us a little something different. That's way better then giving the fans something fake that was pre recorded in a studio.

Had a Mariah moment (49,863) by Todd from Sydney, Australia
I had a Mariah moment of my own last night. I've been struggling with a cold and chest infection for the last week. Last night I had to sing to a crowd of about 200, and the top half of my upper range was gone. I squeaked my way through two Michael Buble songs. I was furious afterwards, because I know I can do better. Several f and c bombs later, I thought how horrible it must be for someone like Mariah, who not only performs in front of 10000 people, but they each upload a video to YouTube of her struggling to hit notes she knows that she can. So all I can do is sympathise with Mariah and continue to support her so that she can return to being the fantastic chanteuse we all know and love.

Other artists vocal issues (49,862) by Cgee54 from Usa
I was reading an article on Bob Dylan voice and it was interesting the recommendations he received by this otolaryngologist. This strike me the most because I honestly believed that practicing scales will do the trick apparently there's much more than just scales. "Surprisingly, practicing scales won't help. The fast-twitch muscles in the vocal cords are not like other muscles - you can't build them up," says Amin. If you could, "singers would have these huge, fat vocal cords and wouldn't be able to breathe. A common solution instead is to work to build up a singer's airflow with exercises and behavioral modifications." Anyway it's a good read and many of the things he said can be applied to MC as well.

Andrew / everything is possible (49,860) by Edward from USA
Andrew, I do think Mariah can definitely recover, but as Nathan stated, she's going to have to want it and be the professional she can be. The huge boobs, sexy image, long weaves and diva attitude worked as smoke and mirrors for quite some time now, but with everybody being paparazzi with their smartphones nowadays, that won't alone do it. She needs to make it about her voice again. She needs to live up to her "The Return of The Voice" comeback slogan. With discipline and the right people around her, it's very possible. It's not about singing perfectly at this point, but singing with consistency, passion and confidence. I can't remember the last time Mariah Carey threw left herself go into a song with passion and left me wow. That's the Mariah I miss. I know L.A. Read is going to do some damage control, I hope she listens. It'd all be up to her.

Andrew's posts (49,859) by G.G. from USA
People don't like Andrew's posts because he doesn't sugar coat what he is saying. The truth is ugly sometimes, and there's no need to bs a 45 year old woman who is destroying her legacy and what career she has left. I agree, if Mariah doesn't make some major (all caps) changes, this is the end. Not many people are going to spend their hard earned money on some train wreck shit show, the crowds will diminish and her ability to book major events will be a thing of yesteryear. Don't be mad at Andrew or Nathan Morris, be mad at Mariah for choosing to make a fool of herself on stage.

Adam (49,857) by Jon from Netherlands
I think it's unfair to bring up relationships. Nick stayed with her for 6 years and was madly in love. She must have qualities no? I don't know who terminated the relationship, her or Luis Miguel and Eminem was never anything serious. A lot of men have been infatuated with her through the years. If some leave that doesn't mean anything. Relationships end all the time. We all have things that are annoying. Her and Nick lasted for 6 years. For celebrities that's a lot. There are moments when she is a bit too "random" but I think it comes as a result of her unhappiness/insecurity. She wouldn't get lost in her thoughts if she was more secure and firm in her personality. Might come from partially losing her special ticket in life (the voice) or maybe it's the age and feeling the world won't be there for her anymore. I've watched again the interview Whitney gave to Oprah and at some point she says she had done everything she had to. There was nothing else to achieve. Mariah should be able to feel the same in order to recover her happiness. Put the pressure aside and just enjoy her life and what it offers her at each given moment.

Trey Lorenz (49,856) by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
How can he be truth to Mariah on her voice when he's also jumping on the same ship with her lipsyncs his high notes in I'll Be There lately. Talk about birds of a feather flock together.

Mariah's attributes / response to Andrew (49,855) by ADAM from USA
I agree with your comments Andrew. I've always felt Mariah went a bit looney starting in 1998 during the Butterfly era and the decline of her voice. Once the cracks started to show in her voice and lip syncing became evident, she became more over the top in her antics wherever she went and rambling about nonsensical stuff in interviews. As her voice degraded, she became obsessed with a "diva" image which included a lighting technician, beauty team at all times (behind and in front the scenes), fumbling repeatedly with her ear monitor during performances. These "attributes" she suddenly picked up with the decline of her voice are all intentional, as they act as a smoke screen to the public for her to mask that her voice is no longer what it was. It's like her career was defined as "the voice" where she just got behind a mic and emoted. And since '98 she's all about the fuss and we're somehow suppose to ignore the fact she sounds damaged? When you add up all these events, it makes you wonder can Eminem, Luis Miguel, and Nick Cannon all be wrong for jumping ship? Mariah seems to always become more unstable as each heartbreak goes on.

Nathan Morris (49,854) by Darryle from USA
I think his message was heartfelt and he meant well. I agree with everything he said. He's a true friend of Mariah's, he has probably been through what she's going through right now. I liked what he said about her having to want to be the old Mariah again. It's not enough to do things for the fans or as an obligation she has to do it for herself or she won't get anything out of it. I'm not just talking about her voice, I mean her career in general. As for it being sabotage, I don't think so. The only thing sabotaging Mariah's career is herself with all of these bad performances. I can only hope she sees his message as a friend reaching out a hand and not someone who's turning his back on her.

Really Andrew (49,853) by Abraham from USA
It's one thing to give an opinion, but it's another to bash and be down right nasty. To say "There's no coming back", or that it's an end for Mariah is crazy. Way to be positive. I'm not going to deny that Mariah has had some bad moments in her career and in her recent live performances. But how can you as a proclaimed "fan" be so negative and doubtful? Yes she needs a wake up call, but she doesn't need to be bashed. She needs some counseling and to cut back on the drinking. We already know her voice isn't what it used to be. But she can still sing.

Take to the sky (49,852) by Jon from Netherlands
I love Loverboy and never thought the Glitter era had any major issue. It was just Mariah being corky and funny and at some point exhausted and troubled by the pressure. The voice message she left was actually very sane. Have you seen the interview she gave to Larry King in 2002? Very mature. Mariah was always capable of depth and maturity but she also has an over the top personality but that doesn't really hurt anyone. People that work with her have nothing but good things to say about her. There have been some not so good moments throught the years but maybe because she feels isolated or pressure or whatever in the midst of all the fame and sucess. Who knows? Things are different now for the reasons we all know. After all who can deny that her and Nick were perfect for each other? It looked like it to me. Where I think Mariah might have a problem is in her tendency to get stuck in situations. She is still stuck in trying to prove she is sexy (because she didn't feel that way growing up). Move on to other things. I agree that serious consideration should be giving to canceling the Vegas show. What about acting? Wouldn't now be the perfect time? Exorcise demons through some movie roles or theater plays. With all this I forgot that Mariah has other talents. She just needs at this point to use the right ones.

Take to the sky (49,851) by Andrew from UK
It's good to see good loyal fans - not "lambs" as I would, and have documented them to be - come out and try to post Mariah the truth. I wanted it because it's necessary even though I think it's a couple of years too late. Well, several. However Nate doing it really hit home for me why I've been p*ssing people off for so long. This is genuinely, genuinely, sad. The show is almost over. And I don't say this to antagonise. There's no coming back from this, this fall from grace. Someone asked what I meant by "mental problems". I think it's clear. She has been a bit of a whack-job since 97 (loveable in the beginning, but increasingly alarming) and it's hard not to see it as evident that it was directly related to her voice degradation. It changed from the elastic powerhouse to just a voice, albeit it the voice with the tone that speaks to your soul. The loss of the voice with the loss of the success led to a breakdown. Increasingly she acted bizarre, drawing attention away from it, and her clear embarrassment, by the strange behaviours we all know well. (I remember watching the Loverboy video thinking "It's come to this?" But then watching Home For The Holidays thinking "She's still in there somewhere.") Is she still in there? Yet I don't see coming back from being caught out as a long-time faker. If she's still in there, give Vegas up. Go live another life. I don't see how this can make you happy. Go, take to the sky. Go get well.
