Mariah (50,903) by B from USA
Mariah was betrayed by Nick. Listen to Camouflage. She spells it out for the listener. Her confidence in herself was destroyed by his betrayal. She's slowly but surely regaining her confidence. Her appearance on Ellen and her recent performance of Hero are examples of Mariah's reemerging confidence. Talent always rises to the top. Ms. Carey is a talent to be reckoned with. She is a bird of paradise and like a phoenix she will rise from the ashes renewed.

Rainbow (50,902) by Bill from the UK
Has anyone else been playing Rainbow on repeat since listening to that amazing interview? I've always enjoyed the album (except Did I Do That), but am seeing it and appreciating it in a whole different way now. In fact, DIDT is even beginning to grow on me. What is happening in this world? Lol.

Annoying [censored] lambs (50,901) by TheElusiveLamb from USA
I'm so confused on as to why any other diva is being brought up on a Mariah Carey fan message board. Mariah isn't Madonna, Celine, or etc. She's Mariah Carey. She knows what she needs to do. She hit a rough time and is not feeling sorry for herself, nor is she walking around crying every five seconds. She is a goddess. If her being at the top of the charts is that important to you, then she doesn't need you "lamb". Jump the ship and leave the real fans along. You all wonder why MC won't do anything? Look at every thing she does gets critique and compared to other divas. STFU already. You all are such crybaby [censored]. Annoying as [censored].

Madonna vs Mariah, the eternal fan feud (50,900) by Luis from Spain
Madonna is not desperate. Go to YouTube and watch recent interviews so you can admire her wisdom. Her arguments on ageism and pop music are really on fleek. Madonna is very intelligent and knows how to answer a question. Mariah, no shade, is dull in that sense. While Madonna looks nervous in interviews many times, Mariah talks about the same regularly (any interview between 2008 and 2013 are about the same thing: Nick, dembabies, global superstar, and so forth). Is Madonna desperate? Not at all. She has released a "deep" album, her best in many many years (12) and she hadn't promoted a record like this time since COAD. Even if sales are lower for whatever reason, if Madonna cannot sell albums, who can? Taylor, Sam Smith, Gaga, all those recent artists won't never be as huge as Madonna and Mariah. Also, no shade again, but I am pretty sure that the actual reason why Mariah is less known internationally is because she hadn't toured properly during her Sony days. She was huge at the time, but her artistry was limited to her voice and nowadays the audience requests more than a rough show with one screen. Look at Celine: she toured extensively in 1995-1996 and she is able to sell out stadiums while doing very visual shows.

Re: Lost "Rainbow" Mariah interview (50,898) by Billy from Greece
Amazing. Articulate, astute, intelligent, a true artist. Great questions. Kudos on the interviewer as well for knowing his stuff. That's exactly the kind of discussion I would love to do with Mariah if I ever get the chance to meet her (again). The energy of the "Rainbow" era still gives me life. It's just so empowering. Mariah was confident then, outspoken. You could even feel that in her music and her performances. Though they are almost controversial words, that's when I feel she was at her most genuine and real, in the years 1997-2001. She pretty musch deconstructs her whole image which at that point in pop culture was pretty radical to do for a "mainstream" artist like Mariah. I love it. Thanks to anyone who uploaded it and brought it to our attention. Finally, this interview shows clearly just how aware Mariah is of everything that pertains to her career and public perception of her. She is no amateur. The woman is a total pro, an array of professions combined in one entity. And yes, "Rainbow" is a total classic.

Fans (50,896) by B from USA
If you're a fan you should celebrate the peaks and be there to support your favorite artist/icon during the valleys. I don't think half of you are even fans with your thinly veiled disses that in your delusional minds come across as constructive. Get a life and stop trying to dissect Mariah's and her supposed mental illness.

Hero performance and gay icon (50,895) by B from USA
I enjoyed the Hero performance. Mariah has always been a gay icon. I was a gay little boy listening to Outside and when I heard her lyrics it was like something I could have written myself. It touched me. I'll be a lamb for life even if MC becomes Norma Desmond level delusional and can't sing a single note.

Live (50,894) by Otti from Belgium
This [censored] performance is live, like she is standing there. Even the "find the way" is live. And I think it was a clean performance, it's good promotion for Las Vegas.

The HRC gala perfomance (50,892) by MimiLamb from Germany
I liked the performance, it was not over the top nor was she struggling in my opinion, her voice seems so much clearer and fuller. She changed it to her current voice something a lot of us said she should do, the song she picked "Hero" was because of the nature of the event and I can totally get it and suits the occasion. It was simple and I liked it. The stage well it's a gala and not a Mariah Carey concert so it's not up to her to change it or do something with it. I also liked the fact there weren't any background singers singing over her so loud you can't hear her or where she can hide behind. I enjoyed it and I'm not picking apart every little detail of the performance itself because it wasn't flawless but it was real. Her outfit was fitting to, not to much cleavage or to overly sexy again fitting. She looked beautiful.

What (50,891) by B from USA
This board hasn't been this critical or negative since 2001. You'd think Mariah flashed her vagina, shaved her head, and attacked the paparazzi.

Amber don't get it twisted (50,890) by THE TRUTH from USA
Amber, Nick didn't marry Mariah, she married him. Nobody is the person they were six years ago and any fan who expects a celebrity to remain unchanged after 6 years is kidding themselves at best. Anyway, I've said it before, post 2001 Mariah was and is very damaged. Look at her life, you'd have to be made of stone to not be destroyed by the life that she has had. Let's leave the Saturday morning quarterbacking/diagnoses where they belong or rather not on this board. BTW, the "assistant" in that picture is wearing a giant Eye of Horus ring and other assorted, shall we say suspicious jewelry. Look closely and then do your own research.

HRC gala (50,889) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I think Mariah looked great, I loved the hair, the makeup looked good. She really didn't look 44, more like 35. However, I did not like the dress. I think it was not flattering on her, but oh well, she looked great overall. Good to see her back. I enjoyed the performance. She changed up the song to suit her current state and that's a really good thing instead of trying to make it sound like the original or lipping. Shows she still can slay her older hits with a bit of modification. As for the stage set, I don't think MC or her team can be blamed for that. It wasn't her show that she or her team will have control over the outlook. The stage was made as it is for the gala and she was just there as a performer and supporter, so I don't think it's fair to blame team Mariah on that. Plus for a song like Hero, there is nothing flashy that can be incorporated on stage, except for the piano. One can't expect dancers in this song. Anyways, I am glad to see her back in form somewhat. I hope to see more of her as her Vegas gig gets nearer.

Her last performance (50,888) by Liz Archer from Sweden
I love Mariah, I have loved her music since the early 90ties. As much I love the old classics I think that maybe it's a misstake to do a show based on them. She has recovered her voice a lot but it is still a bit shaky. Not to mention most of these power ballads are songs that are not hip today. My concern is that most people are going to compare her voice to how it used to be when she was years younger. Her songs are so difficult to sing. I prefer her to sing new songs that fits her voice of today. Skip the ranges she is struggling with (which you can see in that performance despite being better than ever). I wish she could sing as effortless as Lada Gaga did on that Oscar show. That was inspiring. That is the Mariah I am craving. Instead we are getting the usual "bling" and black dress. I really do love her but I am tired to see her in these prom-dresses and "bling". It's not helping her, the image of people today have different style. This "diva persona" (which is the dress and bling) is getting tiresome. I realise I am saying some very harsh words here, but I can't help feeling this way. I just want to see Mariah rise again. I wish she would do something drastic.

Hero performance (50,887) by MC1989 from Spain
You can watch Mariah's performance of Hero last night here. I think it was good, but I believe she needs more rehearsing, because some of her improvisations didn't sound good to me. I think she's refusing to work with a vocal coach and she needs to do it desperately, to sound confident in her actual range and stop lipping "you'll find the way yeah". A vocal coach teaches you better ways to breathe while singing, to sing from the stomach and to exercise your voice, without hurting it. Mariah still has a beautiful voice, and she still can sound very powerful when she tries, but there's a lack of rehearsing, or at least it's not enough. I've seen better performances of Hero during her last tour. The stage presence (not hers, but the performance itself) looked so cheap. The only real musician was the pianist (I liked his impros) but they played the song (the back track) like a karaoke. The performance looked like a rehearsal, not as the final result. It seems that Mariah uses her live performances to rehearse her adlibs and that's something that needs to be done at home, especially with her current voice.

Abraham / Madonna / HRC (50,885) by Lee TS from USA
I am not coming for you but what you said about Madonna was a bit harsh. What you wrote about her I can totally imagine say, a fan of Ariana's would say about Mariah. Like word for word. Especially with what happened during the Rockefeller performance. I'm not a huge Madonna fan but I totally respect what she's done and achieved in music. Like Mariah, Madonna is a true living legend - she's iconic. And to others about this whole relevancy thing, Madonna is relevant. Her still being able to sell out these huge world tours shows her star and staying power. No tea, no shade, no pink lemonade but Mariah wasn't able to do it with Elusive Chanteuse Show or it would've had a more extensive run/legs. From the snippets Mariah sounded really good at HRC, she sounds rested and her voice sounds full. I'm loving the mug courtesy of Buckle but not really feeling the hair, diamond necklace, and dress. I know she lives for opulence but sometimes it gets a bit OOC and the sparkle ages her. On a tidbit, Heartbreaker 2.0 video was uploaded on Vevo and I still can't get over how amazingly gorgeous she looked on the beauty close-up shots.

You're so right about Madonna, I like some of her music and I respect her achievements but I also think she's too desperate trying to be relevant. And as much as people want Mariah to work with today's hot producers and singers, I admire her for staying close to her own self. I don't think Mariah will ever change her musical ways just to be relevant and I applaud that. I guess that's why I always think of Mariah as a real singer and of Madonna as an artist.

Mariah just tweeted a Hero snippet from an InstaLamb (50,883) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
"Hero at HRC gala tonight." I have it on loop as it's phenomenal. I can't wait for a lamb to upload the whole thing on YouTube. I love how Mariah's so interactive with us these days. Remind me of when she used to leave voice mails during the Rainbow and Glitter era. Anyway, enjoy.

Ageism? (50,882) by carlos from peru
Madonna had say that BBC radio is not playing her music because ageism. I'm surprised about that comment because I thought that she was a smart person and knows the rules of the game. I don't think that is about an ageism thing. This happens with everybody that has been in the music business for several years. It happened last year with Mariah and will happen with other singers. You have your glory days and your music is everywhere, but as time goes by new singers, styles will come to the crowd and radio give them your place. It's really hard for a singer to remain in this industry for so many years, they have their peak but then they are not as relevant as they were years ago even if you have a great album out there. Even they records labels preffer to promote their new talents. Sad but true.

MC as a gay icon (50,880) by Dennis from Miami, FL
I think she started to embrace the LGBT community after her divorce, especially starting during the Charmbracelet era. She is more like "gay friendly" than "activist". IMO she's not like Lisa Minelli or Cher or Gaga. But I like her songs and that is more than enough. Remember in Mean Girls there was her poster with CTTA in the room of the LGBT character?

Madonna / Amber (50,879) by Abraham from USA
Madonna's time is up. She's so desperate to try and stay relevant it's pathetic. She's in my opinion a washed up hasbeen who should have hanged it up years ago. Her new album hasn't done a thing. The single flopped and she is now is relying on autotune. Mariah is far more talented, special and makes good music. And she has a better chance scoring a hit and being more successful. Madonna may sale out concerts but that's all she can do. She can't sing and hasn't had a hit in 14 years. Amber what kind of a fan are to be calling Mariah old. Mariah is older now, but she isn't old. A woman or man in their 40's isn't old. In fact, they happen to be far more attractive. And insulting her outfit and saying the woman on the right looks better. You must be blind. Girl *bye*.

Ciccone (50,878) by Dennis from Miami, FL
I used to be a huge Madge fan for years, until Hard Candy. I see the lady as not honest to herself and to the music. Her lyrics are the same from record to record. And she desperately tries to stay relevant. Her involvement in politics, I don't get it. Malala, Front National, Pussy Riot. [censored]

Mariah 1999 interview (50,877) by 123 from USA
I loved it. It's great how she talks about how she does not consider herself a pop artist and that even though she may look ambiguous, she loves to make black music - hip hop/r&b/soul music. For those on the board who want to white wash her and watch her sing MOR ballads for the rest of her life. I loved how she talked about her voice and how she needs a special mic to her creative approach and how much she used to love dance/techno/house/edm music because it was so freeing and how she throws shade at it now because it became so watered down and mainstream and colorless. I hope when she comes back that she does more interviews where she discusses her creative process. It shows how much of a musician she is. Like Fantasia said, "Mariah is music."
