Thirsty vs. You Don't Know What to Do (43,746) by T from USA
I don't know which song would fair better but I do know whichever one she picks she must stand behind it, perform it everywhere and film an amazing music video (even if she just uses actors in the video not herself). That's the only chance a good song has to grow. It must be heard everywhere.

Sequencing (43,743) by tadatorao from japan
Mariah must have put a lot of effort in sequencing the tracks in the album. Just imagine the uplifting power of You Don't Know What To Do after You're Mine (Eternal). It's like playing I'll Be Loving You Long Time right after We Belong Together. I got goosebump just imagining that.

The Elusive ChanTour (43,742) by TR from USA
Watch, that'll be the title, and it'll be appropriate because it'll be Christmas and folks will be like "Where is it?" Lol.

Confused (43,741) by Mark from United States
I'm not understanding any Today show criticism. I thought the performance of TMB was excellent and energetic and her voice sounded great. Also during the new song there was a backing track being used but to me it sounded like alot of it was being sung live as well. I don't think she should be faulted her for using a backing track and letting it do a little of the work when performing an uptempo song for the very first time at 9am with millions of people watching. ABMB also sounded great minus the flub. I was impressed by her vocals and definitely didn't regret getting up on my day off to watch it, in fact it got me woken up and set my day off to a good start. Great performance, haters can shut it.

Multiple covers (43,740) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
So I was wondering if anyone else noticed it but the 3 different covers of Elusive seems to resemble some of Mariah's previous ones. Like obviously a lot of people noticed that the Japanese/Target edition is like Charmbracelet. But then the standard edition is very TEOM (with the golden hues around her and her outfit and the similar pose with her entire body in view). Finally the deluxe edition is very Mariah Carey (the first album I mean) as in the same pose, head shot (left side of the face), and strands of hair blowing over her face slightly. I don't know, just thought it was fun. I liked it when Mariah re-shot some of her previous photoshoots for Memoirs (although the innocence of the original Butterfly album shoot was replaced by the over sexualized outfit and a huge fake smile if that makes sense).

Mariah You do not know perf (43,739) by Gilles from Malta
So she sung it over the track (it means live). Sometimes higher sometimes a bit low. It is easy to understand and to listen what she is singing or not. It is live, it is not lyps at all and Wale shows it to us very well.

Nikki / single releases (43,738) by Will from England
So, if Mariah is going by that strategy (performing brand new songs but not releasing them, to drive up the pre-order sales), does that mean we could potentially get another brand new song for the awards show? I mean, that strategy does make sense, to me in any case. Technically, neither Mariah or JD have called either song "the new single". JD certainly never tweeted out the word "single" as far as I am aware, and neither did Mariah/Mariah's team. Yes, the DJ called "Thirst" the new 'single' (and as far as I am aware, it hasn't been released onto iTunes as a separate single, do correct me if I'm wrong), and JD quoted him, but never really confirmed it. Yes, there was the "single cover", but point out to me where anyone says the words "single cover". So, maybe this is all part of Mariah's ambition to get everyone to listen to the album as a whole. If that is the case, then that's a brilliant move and certainly one way to get album sales up for the first couple of weeks.

Better than 2008 (43,737) by Johnny from United States

I think Touch My Body sounded better today in 2014 than it did in 2008 when she did it on Good Morning America. People are over-exaggerating.

It's a wrap feat. MJB (43,736) by PJW from The U.K.
Do you think they'll edit out the glass filling in the "It's a wrap" intro due to it also being on "Thirsty"? Surely two "splashes" is too much for one album, even for Mariah.

Confused (43,735) by Reuben Walton from United States
Did she perform two different Today Show concerts? Or is it just that TMB and YDKWTD were the only performances broadcasted?

My first post / Today's performance (43,734) by javier from chile
I've been reading this message board for a while now, been a fan since 1990 and this is my first post. I need to defend Mariah. First of all, she did not lip her YDK performce since she can be clearly heard singing live over a recorded track, and that in my book is not lipping. Second, I sing and singing in the morning is horrible for any singer. I hate the fact GMA is always her first place she presents her new material live since it's early and she, like 90% of singers, struggle in the morning (she said she had slept little last night). Whoever thinks TMB is easy to sing is absolutely wrong, that song does not allow for any pause to breathe and people believe me, singing with live musicians and trying to hear your voice is extremely difficult, especially with all technical stuff going on for a tv show. So the fact you sound good in front of your computer singing TMB in your room does not mean you would sound awesome on a TV show live at 8 am. ABMB was 100% live, the usually lipped parts sounded completely different and live to me, the last time she sang it it was obvious the high parts were lipped, this time they sounded really live. YDK is awesome .

TMB on Today (43,733) by Jeremey Carey from United States
I don't know why everyone is saying Touch My Body sounded horrible. I loved all her ad-libbing and she even pulled off some complex vocal runs during the performance. The climax was a little rough, but ever since she first performed that song it's been rough. I think she can slay the awards show performance coming up, because her voice will be fully awaken. Not to mention Mariah once again sounded a lot better during rehearsal. I just think her vocals got tired.

Remix or remake (43,732) by nikki from usa
Some songs, a lot of them, that Mariah makes in the studio can't be created without a studio. They're amazing and sound great on radio or in the club. Unfortunately, they're nearly impossible to sing live. This is where 1 of 2 things happen. She has to sing along with a backing track at some point and everyone calls it "lipsyncing". Or she could remake them so she can sing them live instead, without all the added extras, which she did beautifully on tour. I haven't seen her do that for any televised show before, but I think she should give it a try. She is the remix queen.

I presumed (43,731) by PJW from The U.K.
That they were holding off releasing the single on iTunes so that when the albums released it will gain both from the album version and people buying it as a single (who've been waiting), giving it massive one week bulk sales pushing it up Billboard as far as possible?

Re: releases (43,729) by nikki from usa
My guess would be because Mariah wants this album to be "seen as a body of work", so she's not releasing singles as much as she's giving an album preview. Ultimately, she wants you to buy the album. Traditionally, singers release singles that we buy and it gets us eager to buy the album because we have an idea of what it will sound like. Mariah's skipping all that and just previewing some of her best material on the album, not allowing you to have it, so you'll buy her LP. Brilliant really. I didn't hear the radio Breakfast Club interview where she debuted Thirsty. I don't know if Mariah actually said this (or anything else) is a single, or if that was simply what the papers or dj's assumed. Everytime MC releases a song everyone jumps the gun and says it's her new single, even when that was never supported by Mariah or her camp.

Mariah on tour for the Exclusive Chanteuse album (43,728) by ADAM from USA
I would love Mariah to do a tour in the vein of the Charmbracelet album, which was in smaller venues and labeled "intimate" for her lambily. Personally seeing her at Radio City was the highlight out of the many times I've seen her live. I think we can all agree that she would have a tough time selling arenas as a whole throughout the country, therefore the intimacy of smaller venues where there's no one but her most die hard fans would be awesome. She hasn't toured in a long time, therefore I think if she were really sincere about her devotion to her fans and absence from the music scene, she'd go hard for all of us around the world who support this woman in good times and bad. I mean, what legend do you know whose been around as long or longer than MC is still relevant after many years? Even with the criticism us fans can dish at times at her, I'll admit, it's solely us to always makes sure even her lowest charting songs reach #1 on a dance or RnB chart somewhere. I think its amazing the devotion of us lambs. Kudos to everyone. Let's keep our fingers crossed for another amazing era of MC (love the long title).

Frog throat and well said lamb o' chop (43,723) by nikki from usa
Thank you lamb o' chop for the common sense, it was much needed. I can clearly hear live Mariah singing along with backtrack Mariah. Thanks MariahCarey.com. I've seen many variations of MC's performances throughout the years, but much to the disdain of the MC's voice is gone forever believers, this one doesn't fall in that category. I know frog throat when I hear it. Mariah, seriously, when you know you have to sing live squeezing in 6 hours of shut eye isn't going to cut it. Your vocals weren't remotely awake, but some them did improve as the show went on. My daughter has the same problem, first thing in the morning is the worst time to have choir practice. I see your twitter and instagram captions. Pulling all nighters, coming in at 1 or 3AM. I'm sure the kids keep you up, but if you're going to perform you're going to have to get an overnight nanny for such occasions. Anyone with common sense would know if someone's voice is "deteriorated" than it's gone forever. There's no "good deteriorated vocal" day. MC and M. Buble. If it's bad sometimes and great others, than that's a maintenance issue.

Releases (43,721) by Darryle from USA
Why does Mariah keep releasing such amazing songs and not allowing them for download? You don't sing a song like YDK that's ultra catchy and upbeat and then just let us wait for the album to hear it. 10 more days.

Adam (43,719) by Keagon michael from USA
You make some good points. We all know Mariah has been deteriorating from sometime. Her wine drinking has weakened her voice terribly. If you throw her lighting issues and diva antics into the mix, it's no wonder that the public is so turned off by her demeanor. But we as lambs know Mariah writes amazing songs and is an incredibly "studio" musician. As far as a tour, her voice is so weak that it would not sell out let alone do well. I have accepted the old MC is no longer, but I still love this woman and her albums. I will always support her.

iTunes chart (43,718) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
It seems like everytime Mariah performs a song or previews a song from the new album, her album steadily rises up the iTunes sales charts. Currently it's at 29 on US charts. A few days back it had fallen off the top 200 but as soon as the hype with Thirsty came about, it shot straight up to 39. Then it started falling again and today it's at 29. So MC should take note and promote the hell out of this album. Release YDK or Thirsty, keep attending shows and her album will stay in the top 10. Oh they also changed the picture for the banner.

Fact vs opinion: lip syncing (43,717) by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia
I'm gonna need people to learn the difference between singing over a backing track and lip syncing. For the record no one here is delusional about the current state of MC's voice, so can you all please cut the crap on that. We've all accepted that she had her on and off days when performing live. Also there's enough critics on here constantly expressing "disappointment" around the clock, so I'm not getting the people being "blinded by devotion" vibe on this messageboard. Deuces.

Today Show May 2014 (43,716) by Stacey from USA
So, MC's recent live performances haven't been that great, lol. Today though, she did great. She did lip the new song. It's so obvious, no discussion is needed. Though I don't fault her for that. It's a new song and so I understand why she would lip a pre-recorded track. No one has heard it up until now. As for the other two songs, perfect choices. ABMB from the 90s and TMB, a more recent hit. As for ABMB, I loved how MC played off getting the lyrics wrong by singing she did such a thing. Classic. That is the personality we want to see, someone who plays off a mistake with a light diss toward herself and sings on. All in all, a great start to getting this new album off the ground. One side note, I loved YDKWTD except Wale's part. Ugh, I know some love, love, love her rap collabos and sometimes I do too. But this Wale guy needs to hit the road, lol. I found myself loving the song except when that guy opened up his mouth. If anyone comes across a no rap version, let me know. I'd love to have it.

Mariah on the Today Show review (part 2) (43,713) by ADAM from USA
Its so obvious MC was lipping YDK. First clue what that she moves throughout the song and dances a bit. We know from history that MC never dances and sings with a full on voice like that since her Honey days. Second, MC is not a good mimer. She always has at least 3 times in performance that her mouth misses an ad-lib that she should be singing otherwise. And lastly, when she lip-synces the sound of her voice is always the same tone even when the mic is away from her mouth, there's no breathiness or hoarseness. BTW the rapper also was bad and forgot a portion of his rap that was still playing while he didn't move his mouth. If she were really singing live, her vocals would be mixed of full voice, hoarse voice, and whispery voice - which were all evident during ABMB and TMB (mostly hoarse). I just wish fans would stop always creating excuses for her lackluster performances - she has more than enough time to rest her voice, maintain it, release quality music, and at least appear "interested" during interviews and speak on different topics. I've accepted the fact MC is embarassed by her earlier work, Someday, Emotions, I Don't Wanna Cry therefore she won't make songs like that again and also she won't sound like that ever again. This is MC in 2014 - RNB, Hip Hop, thin voiced diva - the way she likes it. I think it would be a more interesting forum if fans would stop being blinded by their devotion and act more as a realist to share our thoughts on our favorite singer.
