Priceless (50,512) by Jon from Netherlands
I'm glad you enjoyed it. "Cos if you run your mother break a bottle sicker run day boo" is poetic work. In the immortal words of Gob from Arrested Development: "It's good to laugh again."

Celine has more shoes (50,511) by Lee TS from USA
Yes, I agree Mariah is the best and more gifted in every way. And I think Mariah's covers of Endless Love and Do You Know Where You're Going To slays the original version, she brought out vocals that the original singer can only dream of.

Priceless (50,510) by Andrew from UK
Jon, I can't stop crying with laughter. My cheeks are aching. That is hilarious. "Rape me in my thighs. I know you like my cock." But the absolute mf'ing best: "Cos if you run your mother break a bottle sicker run day boo." I cannot stop laughing. I only regret I'll never be able to watch it again for the very first time.

Gospel cover (50,509) by 123 from USA
Since Mariah is covering gospel songs, I would love for her to cover Angie & Debbie Winans' Light Of Love. They say Whitney is singing backgrounds on this song. Take a listen.

Gold mine (50,508) by Jon from Netherlands
While rediscovering "Tuts my Barreh" (I guess it's from the 2008 album "Pii inside a c square") I found other lost classics like "Cousin always beat my baby" (aka "You'll always beat a pear on me"), "We'll be long together" (aka "Is it so hard to Billy? Come back, pay me please"), "When you peel it" and many others. There is also one for "Hero". That is sacred ground to me though so I won't go there haha.

Shelly / Lee (50,507) by Abraham from USA
Thank you Shelly. I appreciate your kind words. I love your posts more. Lee, Celine's album may have sold well but what exactly did it do for her? Did she score a hit a song? Or did her album get nominated? No, Mariah is the one who is capable of that. "Beautiful" made it to number 15 and would have more and likely made it to number one had the whole shoulder injury never happened. And the album would had been released originally as it was recorded and would have sold more. I wasn't trying to put Celine down, I was just stating facts. Mariah is the better artist and talent and still the best voice in the music industry. When Mariah sings Jazz or in her low register she still sounds amazing. The Beacon showed she still has it. Excuse me for putting Mariah on a pedestal over Celine. A woman who has written/produced all her music, has had *platinum* albums, has the most number ones. "One sweet day" slays every single song in Celine's category.

Tuts my Barreh (50,506) by Jon from Netherlands
Andrew it's my pleasure to introduce you to "Tuts my Barreh" (aka "If there is a camel up a hill" aka so many other names but I don't want to ruin it for you).

Team white and gold (50,505) by Lee TS from USA
Lol I'm actually happy Mariah tweeted about the dress because it's such a fun topic going on right now. Like her I was initially team white and gold but then I finally saw the blue and black. I love she sees it the way I saw it haha.

Il faut que tu saches (50,503) by Andrew from UK
Someone mentioned Celine lipping in her career. I think the comparison between Mariah and Celine is interesting and important at this point. Celine Dion is one of the best popular vocalists in the world. She lips high notes now and then in order that she preserves her voice not because she can't hit them (save some songs admittedly). She regularly proves that she can. Mariah has had the luxury of not having sung high belt notes live for well over a decade. (You must wonder where the vocal straining has actually come from? It's all been pre-record or easy-low.) Celine, whilst cringeworthy to some, is commanding of a stage: confident, energetic at high tempo, and captivating with a mic stand and a ballad: it's an event. She also mixes it up, sings songs not in her back-catalogue and is rarely anything but dull in her stagecraft. I think to suggest that Mariah's Vegas show will be anything different from her usual standard shows is naive, no matter who is involved: when does Mariah get told what to do anymore? To think she will sing Fantasy live every night for the first time since, well, Daydream Tour is naive at best IMO. There's been no time to fix *anything* that's wrong. I still think Vegas is a monumental mistake. But I would love to be proved wrong.

Ken Lee (50,502) by Jon from Netherlands
Randy posted the international hit single "Ken Lee" by the world renowned Valentina. Can I give a shout out to the "If there is a camel up a hill" hit song? Such a classic. Only Mariah to leave a trailer blaze of (very creative) imitators. Suddenly I had the urge to check the original "Ken Lee" by Mariah and stumbled upon a compilation of performances worth checking. PS: Adam and Mimi L. I also enjoy your posts; and I also enjoy "Did I Do That?" but not as a single.

I appreciate the uber positive fans because I think about these boards as an intervention. Imagine everyone is giving you the tough truth, that you do need to hear, but it hurts. That's why you also need the people who are going to be unconditionally on your side to soften the blow and to hold your hand through it. If it's all tough love, a person is going to feel attacked and go into hiding. If there is a balance, the person is more likely to think about it more when they're alone and away from the uncomfortableness of being confronted. I get frustrated sometimes, I feel what you guys are feeling. Then I read Abraham's posts, completely having M's back, and it's like a light. We need friends who will tell us the truth but also the ones who accept us where we are right now no matter what. I would love to have such a loyal friend have my back during a transitional period.

Greatness must be maintained (50,500) by Marissa from USA
I loved your post Ardis. You hit the nail on the head when you said that it takes work and care to stay at the top. That's the thing that people seem to be missing. I don't understand why people think that excellence will just keep flowing with from Mariah with absolutely no maintenance or effort. Excellence can come effortlessly for a long time, but there comes a point where you have to start putting in work and that time is now.

"Caesar's Palace hires a team of experts to do everything from staging, choreography, and lighting." I really hope you're right. That makes me feel a lot better. I'm almost scared to ask but does anyone know if she is in Vegas working on this production right now? She can't just show up at the last minute and wing it/sing. I've been watching more of Celine's videos and even though she's not a dancer, there was definitely some choreography for her too. In each song she does the same thing (arm movements, stances, small dance routines, etc.) and it makes the performance look tight and polished IMO. On a side note: I just wanted to say that I've enjoyed reading everybody's posts the last few days. We really are a passionate and dedicated fandom.

Vegas doc video (50,498) by Warren from Trinidad & Tobago
Hey guys. I just wanted to say based on everything I am reading that I posted that video primarily because of the amount of work that goes into a "Vegas" show. Mariah has always been, and has always said her home is in the studio. It is just a huge daunting task, and maybe we have to look at it as this being her challenging herself. People talk about her mixing it up, and maybe this is it. In the lowest point in her life, taking on such a project might be the outlet she needs. It happens with all human beings. When faced with challenges there are two outcomes, and we all know what she is and can be capable of. Forget her voice and singing style and even musical choices for now, what seems to be the most critical for this to work is a dedicated, knowledgeable and professional team backing her and supporting her, giving her the best advice.

A true hater is someone who wants to keep a person down, therefore they give criticism without suggesting any solutions. Rarely has that happened on this board. The suggestions that people are making like Mariah getting a vocal coach, surrounding herself with professional people, working with relevant artists and changing songs so she can sing them well with her current voice will do nothing but boost her career. How is that negative in the big picture? What disturbs and confuses me is how fans of one of the most successful, unparalleled singers who has ever lived can feel so comfortable about the way things have taken a turn for the worst in her career. Regardless of how positive you are, everyone knows that Mariah/her career is nothing like it used to be. Period. If you don't make a big deal of the changes, fine, but I don't understand how anyone in their right mind can be outraged or shocked by other fans having problems with the way things have changed. Not everyone can easily cope with, accept and even celebrate (like some people seem to do) their favorite singer going from excellence to mediocrity.

TEOM (50,495) by B from USA
The first album I bought was Daydream maybe that's why I connected with TEOM. Maybe this explains why MIAMTEC worked for me because it shares many similarities with both albums.

Celine Dion and Vegas (50,494) by B from USA
Celine Dion lips don't think she doesn't. If she or Mariah didn't they wouldn't have their voices twenty some years later. The difference is Mariah has been lipping poorly for some time and unlike Celine she is still relevant. If you think Celine and her team are solely responsible for her show you're mistaken. Caesar's Palace hires a team of experts to do everything from staging, choreography, and lighting. Mariah is taking over for Celine so I'm assuming the same people that staged her residency are helping with Mariah's which means all Mariah needs to is work on is her voice. If she sings well and does so coherently with enthusiasm she'll do just fine.

Jon (50,493) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
YME was a poor choice for lead single as it wasn't distinct enough on its own or really representative of the major theme on MIAMTEC. It's deceptively melancholy and yet they were trying to sell it as a Valentine's anthem. It smells like self sabotage. The video worked against it too because even now I don't ever reference it, almost like it never happened. It was a complete waste not to have Mariah interact with Trey Songz, especially if they had chemistry. Reminds me of her early videos where she wasn't allowed to have hot guys in her videos lest Tommy pitch a fit. DIDT of course wouldn't have worked as first single for Rainbow because it was too dark as a single period. Let alone as a figurehead. Obsessed is a perfect example of a snarky yet upbeat diss song that works and unsurprisingly it did well because the video was original in concept and funny. Who would have thought Mariah would be caught dead in a beard?

Response to Jon and Lee (50,492) by ADAM from USA
Wow Jon. I always feel like your posts are reading my mind exactly. Well said and very true. I feel the Vegas concerts are a big milestone in her career and the world will be watching. These concerts will be the equivalent to the "This Is It" concerts Michael Jackson was leading up to. His career was in the pits and those concerts had so much anticipation towards it that even if you were a half-way fan you wanted to know how good the show he put on. Mariah is in the same place. Her career has never been as low and her voice has been exposed for a long time now for the bad state its in. I don't have tickets to Vegas but will wait anxiously to see what critics and fans report. This is such a pivotal time for Mariah that I hope she surprises us and knocks it out the park. Also Lee I love your comments about feeling connected to her earlier work vs TEOM until today. I echo the same sediments. Even though it was a massive comeback album I didn't connect with the lyrics and melodies the same way I still have from her earlier work. Maybe it had to do with the level of output and magic she had from her Sony records days but it wasn't the same for me. Its always nice to hear fans on this site uncover a truth about MC that I forgot or didn't know anyone else felt so thanks always for sharing your thoughts.

Lamb: Did I Do That? (50,491) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
Me too. It's supposedly about Derek Jeter but I guess even Tommy fits the bill. It's one of her most difficult songs to sing because she literarily doesn't breathe for like half the song. It's just snarky goodness and so obviously rap influenced. Mariah broke the diva mould once again with that one. Who does that? Genius.

Mariah's influence on Rihanna (50,488) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
As always I find myself having to break down the simplest of statements just because some of these posters can't ever let me get away with making sense. A large part of Mariah's success with #1 singles comes from her being very prolific, that's just basic math. Rihanna is really the only mega star of her generation who copied that trait, releasing albums back to back. Ergo, she now is now biting at MC's heels, at least when it comes to #1 songs. There is no secret sauce here so I don't get why you got your pantries in a twist as I also never claimed Rihanna had no other influence, like Madonna, aside from Mariah who have informed her artistry. Just like Mariah has been influenced by dozens of her predecessors and contemporaries. But it's clear you are willing to be deliberately obtuse just so you can post gibberish in the name of "Mariah Ain't Shit". And since when isn't Mariah Carey, much like Franklin, Labelle, Streisand and Ross a supreme vocalist, songwriter, producer and actress in her own right? What kind of fool?

The "real" deal / love yourself Mariah (50,486) by Ardis Logic from Earth
If we put all the criticism aside for a moment and look at what it really is, we all just want Mariah to be the best she can in all aspects. Healthy, both mentally and physically. Obviously she is going through a lot of stress and heartache in her life, and not really seeing her or hearing from her, has left us all to speculate and assume how she is doing. Those of us who are being "real" about the situation and showing tough love to MC understand that this is the healthiest thing to do. MC is not above anyone else. That mentality is what leads to this annoying diva behavior. It's better to be humble about who you are, and just do your best. That way if you mess up there is not so much pressure to live up to the huge ego you have built up about yourself. Plus people will love you more for being humble. Yes she has more hits, yes she has been around a long time, at the moment she is not singing on the level of greatness that she once was. It takes work and care for yourself to stay on top and be the greatest. I believe that she can make a huge comeback and amaze everyone again, but she has to take care of herself to the extreme. She has to love herself and want to feel good and happy. Otherwise we are just going to continue to see more of these very hard to watch performances and breakdowns on stage. I wish Mariah the very best and hope that she gets her priorities straight. She can recover from this, but she really has to want to herself.

Jon (50,483) by Lee from UK
I totally get your message. The part which resonated with me, was the part about the bond we formed with Mariah. As a fan, I formed my bond with Mariah a long time ago in the early 90s. With each album she released the bond grew stronger. The songs she wrote felt like they were written for me. Once Butterfly landed, I had this uneasy feeling that my bond was being tested. Butterfly is now my second favourite album after the joint first of Music Box and Daydream. Each subsequent release tested my bond with Mariah but it remained as strong as ever until TEOM. I know this was her comeback album and her shining glory but for me I felt this was targeted at a whole new breed of fans and not the fans who formed their bond with Mariah many many years earlier. Having said this, I still have this explainable bond with Mariah even if it is not as strong as it was before. I think it's because of all the good she has unknowingly done in my life. I know every fan will cite Hero, or Make It Happen as songs that have inspired them or helped them. Whilst these are included in my list of inspirational songs, it was the likes of Outside, Close My Eyes, Looking In, and Butterfly that stuck with me. These songs are the ones that have really maintained my Mariah bond and no matter how hard Mariah falls, no matter how bad her vocal performances, no matter who surpasses her amount of number 1s, no matter which lambs call me a hater, no matter what, I will never be one of the fans who disowns Mariah. I have never been afraid to call Mariah out on her bullshit throughout the years and I feel like I can do that because the bond I feel with her. I will never be a fan who turns around and quits. I know we often say, Mariah owes us this, or Mariah owes us that. But in all honesty, I think it is me who owes Mariah.
