Mariah / big announcement (49,129)
by Edward from USA
| |

We are almost certain about what Mariah is going to announce on Ellen, but I think we might get a shocking surprise too. We are expecting her to announce her Vegas gig, but she might actually have some other news pertaining some new music. It might not be a whole album, but I think there's definitely some new music on the way. There might even be a single. I can't wait.

Vegas / Diana Ross (49,127)
by Special K from USA

My goodness, haven't posted up in this piece for a minute. I think the Vegas gig is a beautiful thing. Performing on a regular basis will help Mariah gain her confidence back and improve her stage presence. Mariah's tour started off with bad reviews however, midway through the tour, the reviews were near perfect. I will definitely attend some shows in Vegas. Interesting how Diana Ross is occasionally discussed on this board. In my humble opinion Diana has more than an average voice. She is one of the best interpreters of music period. No, Diana does not possess powerful vocal prowlness like Aretha however she more than makes up for it by having the ability to emotionally connect to lyric and sing melodies with personality, control that spoke to the masses. The conviction in her voice can make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Listen to songs like Touch Me In Morning, It's My Turn, or I'm Still Waiting. Every time I hear Missing You I'm shook. Another great example is the Supreme hit My World Is Empty Without You. She sings that song very flat but in a haunting tone that makes you feel it. No one, and I mean no one, can talk sing a song like Diana. Ain't No Mountain High is a perfect example. That song has so much sexual tension. It starts off with gentle innocent foreplay building up to a climatic satisfying organism. There are no powerhouse vocal acrobatics displayed however her instrumentation of that song is powerful. Diana is straight Boss.

All the new artist can't compete with Mariah in sales. She set records that most likely will never be repeated. Two songs of the decade and countless honors. She's Mariah Carey. Learn the facts about Mariah's illustrious career. She's the voice.

I'm kind of excited to finally see Mariah on a talk show. I hope it won't be short or rushed. I hate that. Her appearance on David Letterman last year was a disaster. I hope she comes out wearing something nice and acting normal and calm.

Exactly, I'm sorry if I took your post personal. Billy thank you for your post. Diana is one of my favorite female artists/singers. I have most of her albums. But many people have said that she had an average voice and always have to bring up another singer and say they sing better etc. For instance Patti Labelle. Patti did sing higher, but I prefer Diana. You're right about the songs you listed. Another good song that showcases Diana's voice is "One more chance". The runs are pretty amazing. People can say what they like about her voice, but the point is she sang and got far with what she had. She has one of the best music catalogs and had the best career. She's a legend. And that's why she's "the boss".

Anybody else still can't believe that Mariah has not one, but two songs of the decade? Having one alone is a monumental achievement, but two? I'd probably die if she got another from 2015.

As a fan I don't think I'm entitled to anything but it is important to me to get some input from MC and to know how she is. My life is deeply intertwined with her music and different eras and though it's a one way street I like to know how she is because I actually care for her. I think she is a sweet person with whom I can empathise since we share a lot of personality traits and at the end of the day she has done more for me with her music and example (yes, there is a lot to learn from her) than a lot of people in my life. I hope the Ellen appearance can shine some light on her state of mind. Nothing wrong with sharing some negative moments of past year and be honest about it. I hope it's not just about the Vegas residency.

Diana Ross (49,115)
by John john from UK

I was at Caesars Palace in September with a one of concert with Diana Ross. Let me tell you guys she has amazing pipes. She can sing, she still has it. The audience went crazy when there saw her and pretty much stayed that way the whole concert. I really can see Mariah doing this and doing it well. Unless you've been to Caesars and Las Vegas then maybe you don't get it. I'm from the UK and have been to Vegas 7 times in 8 years to see some of the world biggest artists and bands. She's gonna be a shinning star there. I just hope there get the right production and look. I want more production around her and new looks. Ever seen a Kylie concert? Everyone is slick and different and totally unique.

Songs of Mariah with slow rock (6/8) beat (49,114)
by carlo from indonesia

Hi everyone. I'm new in this board. Greetings to you all. Lately I've been listening Mariah's album since very first album. I made a playlist containing songs from her with slow rock 6/8 beat. The beat is similar with varieties in tempos. Showcases her skill in making music from this type of beat. Her first song that made me a fan to this date is Forever from Daydream. It's my first MC album. See if you like it too. Here it is. 1. Vision Of Love (Mariah Carey) 2. Vanishing (Mariah Carey) 3. And You Don't Remember (Emotions) 4. If It's Over (Emotions) 5. So Blessed (Emotions) 6. Never Forget You (Music Box) 7. Open Arms (Daydream) 8. I Am Free (Daydream) 9. Forever (Daydream) 10. Outside (Butterfly) 11. It's A Wrap (Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel) 12. I Wish You Well (E=MC2) 13. Make It Look Good (Me I Am Mariah.. The Elusive Chanteuse) 14. One More Try (Me I Am Mariah.. The Elusive Chanteuse) 15. The Art of Letting Go (Me I Am Mariah.. The Elusive Chanteuse) Enjoy.

Diana Ross (49,112)
by Billy from Greece
| |
|
|
Anyone who says that Diana Ross is just an "average" singer has been clearly either not listening or very much influenced by misinformed "word of mouth". The woman is a world class interpreter of lyric, much like Barbra and Whitney, adhering to the melody of songs with meticulousness and intense connection so much that she achieves full conviction. The nature of her voice and vocal style may not be widely associated with black female singing, primarily by the mainstream/pop audiences who identify it with gospel and power belters, hence why usually gospel-influenced singers like Aretha get prioritized. Although her singing sounds "easy" it demands total control of her instrument, which she still has. In fact, as she grew older, her voice matured in her own benefit, augmenting in volume, acquiring excellent belting technique (showcased in the early 1980s in particular) and exploring huskier territories (see 1999's "Every Day Is a New Day"). More importantly, she exudes a very distinct personality in her singing, which is crystal-clear and never overbearing. There are too many examples to site here that showcase her as a vocalist (for instance, "Summertime" from 1987) but check out the expanded "To Love Again" (1981/2003) album, which is basically an excellent ballad collection. Another favorite of mine is the one below.

I can't believe it has been years since I posted here. I don't even remember what my user name was then. Any way just wanted to say no matter what negative things happen to MC she is going to shine through it. She's the golden goddess after all, one of a kind. Times are changing but she will always remain classic. I love MC and always wish her the best in everything she does. Much love to all. It's really cool to be back at the message board again. Have a great day.

Abraham / Ms. Ross, again, lol (49,110)
by Edward from USA

Abraham, it is well known that Diana Ross has an average voice, but it's not less known that the woman has lots of charisma and a very nice catalog. When you conjugate those three elements, you usually get good results. I only have her greatest hits, but every once in a while my aunt plays her music when I come visit her, and I listen to songs as good or better than the ones on her greatest hits, just like Mariah's greatest hits. There are many singers with huge voices who never made it because they didn't have any charisma, sorry if I offend anybody, but Jennifer Hudson is one of those, she's confident and has the voice, but she's not charismatic. Mariah has the charisma, but she has lost her confidence. She's usually seen looking for approval or, as a good Aries, always in her head, I can attest to the latter.

Diana may not have been a big vocalist or belter like Patti or Mariah, but I think she had a nice voice in the 70's or 80's. People went to her concerts because of her songs, not because of stage presence or shoes. She would be on stage and just have fun singing, something Mariah used to. In the fact of the matter is, people say Diana was a basic or average singer. Do you agree or not? She has one of the best music catalogs out of all the legendary female singers. Her songs were and still are timeless classics. Same with Mariah.

So Mariah's scheduled to appear on Ellen January 15. I'm thinking it might be to announce the Vegas show but I don't. I'm hoping she'll announce a new single or a greatest hits album but I guess I'll have to wait and see.
