Does Mariah have a bruise and black eye? (49,619)
by Lee Smith from UK
If you look at the article on this site entitled "Mariah Carey shows her cleavage in revealing dress" and look at the second image and zoom in it appears she has a bruise under her lip that they have tried to cover with make up. Underneath her right eye is also swollen. This is very strange. Did anybody else notice that? (Monday 2 February 2015; 15:28)
Earpiece problems (49,618)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
As a fan since 1995, I do observed that since 2005 Mariah keeps on having earpiece problem during her live performance. I list down all those live performances where she's having those earpiece drama. 1. American Music Awards 2005 2. Good Morning America 2008 3. Live in Morocco 2012 4. Live in Australia 2013 5. Good Morning America 2013 6. Live at Rockefeller Center 2014 7. Live at Beacon Theatre 2014 8. Live in Jamaica 2015 Mariah and her team needs to look at this earpiece problem as serious and damaging. I still hope her Vegas stint would be free from all this earpiece drama. (Monday 2 February 2015; 15:27)
Telling the truth is not hating (49,617)
by Ardis Logic from Earth
As a fan since 1990 I truly love MC and truly care and want the best for her. Just because someone notices the negative things and points them out does not make them a hater. We are worried about Mimi and are concerned. I will always be a fan. I just think if she needs help she needs to get it. She needs support and maybe even tough love to straighten this thing out. She needs someone that she looks up to and respects to show her what is happening here. I resent the comment that someone made who said there are only 3 real MC fans here. Not true. I am a fan, I truly love her and want the best for her. That will never change. (Monday 2 February 2015; 15:17)
Disgusted (49,616)
by Reverie from Earth
I've been visiting these boards for many years but have never posted untill now as I mainly came for the articles. But I just had to say how digsusted and disturbed I am by all these hateful and angry comments about Mariah. Who the hell do you think you are to suggest she has mental issues and that she should retire? You ought to be ashamed of yourselves, it's disgraceful. (Monday 2 February 2015; 15:05)
Documentary (49,615)
by Elena from The Netherlands
What is missing in MC's career right now is a real connection with her fans. Something like a documentary is crucial to communicate with us indirectly. This could be a making of her album or a behind the scenes from the tour. She used to do this in her Sony days and it does her image well. It makes her more human rather than the untouchable diva. She doesn't necessarily need to adress personal issues, but like technical difficulties; they happen all the time. We get the amateur videos and have our judgements ready. If only she would talk about them more openly there wouldn't be such a problem. I'm not so fond of the idea that she'll do so many dates in Vegas right now. Her voice needs rest. She needs to have her passion back instead of to just be in it for the money or to stay relevant. A long break (which is un-Mariah like) would do her good and she can focus on writing and experiment with producers. That's where she feels at home. But overusing your already fragile voice in a concert series? No. (Monday 2 February 2015; 14:24)
Jamaica and homophobia / Adam (49,614)
by Andrew from UK
Adam's criticism of Mariah performing in Jamaica due to their record on gay rights and violent homophobia is noteworthy. I've been there, it's really serious. Yet only a handful of democracies have recently woken up to gay equality. Should artists like MC (who do spend millions given to them by millions of gay people) not go perform in countries like this? Wouldn't it just restrict them to a handful of countries? The US was quite poor on gay legislation 20 years ago; should Mariah have not performed there until it was enacted? Well, the obvious and reasonable response is that in this day and age, no, she should not perform in countries like this. If a state was antisemitic she would not perform. If SA still had Apartheid she would not perform there. Homophobia is disgusting. Jamaica is a hotbed of state-sponsored violent bigotry. There are lines that she needs to draw in the sand with "principle" on one side and "money" on the other. Though after that performance, maybe it was a punishment. (Monday 2 February 2015; 13:48)
You don't like this, and you know it (49,613)
by Andrew from UK
Whilst I'm glad that people are starting to be honest about what's going on with Mariah, because I just can't stand make-believe and don't think it's at all productive, I have to ask: where were you for the past two years? All I've been reading/hearing is people engineering desperate excuses, blaming everything and everyone else but Mariah and refusing to acknowledge her mental and vocal problems, pathetically using the word "haters" and castigating anyone who won't live in the daydream. This has been years in the making, yet when I said it was going to get much worse and she should seek help or retire I don't recall one person accepting it. When I said it was a rip-off, same thing. When I said it would ruin her icon status, same thing. Excuses. And to the guy who complained about the earpiece trick, spot on. It's pathetic. And the glove? Oh, the bloody glove. She got sympathy for the injury but she just doesn't wanna let the pity go. I think her problems go way past the voice now. (Monday 2 February 2015; 13:15)
Missing YouTube link attached (49,612)

Trying again and hoping the link works this time. Please check this, people. Mariah still got it. [Webmaster: I removed the YouTube link, because it was already posted. There's no need to post the same link twice.] (Monday 2 February 2015; 11:27)
Decline, fail, comeback (49,611)
by Gilles from Malta
My opinion about it. It is a marketing strategy. Mariah is popular to be strong whatever happens to her and that's why we love her. In order to make a huge comeback like The Emancipation Of Mimi she needs to fail. I know it is a bit weird for fans but here is how the industry and the machine works. This is how to use bad things and turn them into very good things. And it makes a lot of money. For media, gossip, the company, for her etc. Even bashing is a part of business because they know everything and that's how it works. But soon everybody will be satisfied. People who were bashing are going to say wow and people who support her are going to be proud. Be patient. (Monday 2 February 2015; 11:05)
Jamaican Observer needs a Q-Tip (49,610)
by Orkun from The Netherlands
Well, I have an answer to the fan who asked if he and the "Observer columnist" actually have watched the same show. Hell no. According to his article, Mariah was at her best and gave her fans songs what they were craving. Like "Give It To Me" and "Don't Let Go". Hmmm. Wait. We know the songs on her albums. We know the B-sides. Is there a C-side we missed all these years? Hey Observer columnist: You should listen to songs like "You've Got Me Feeling", "And You Cast Your Fears Aside", "Oh When You Walk By Every Night". Awesome songs. I can't wait to hear your observations on those. Assuming your earpiece is working of course. Sigh. (Monday 2 February 2015; 9:47)

Here we go again with bashing (49,608)
by Travon..SweetSweetFantasy from USA
I actually enjoyed Mariah Carey's performance. It was not perfect but she was there and she gave effort. Yes she did lip one song. One song people. Yes this is becoming normal for her to lip. Do I believe her lipping and being a diva has caused her to hit glitter 2.0? No I do not. I trust Mariah despite the dramatic, unappeased, fake (perfect), ungrateful, dreaded (stuck in 90s folk), disinterested, and bipolar fans that post here. You all, except for those devoted understanding fans (Shelly, Abraham, Baby), are extremely annoying to think her perfection is your right and that you are entitled to know what she needs. Maybe so if she wasn't accomplished. Last time I checked she could just say: I have been giving people what they want, taken blame for over 25 years and I think it's time to retire. [...] with unrealistic expectations would love to see that happen. I will not impose my opinions on her or bash her on a social website that haters can see. I appreciate her putting music out that I enjoy and I love her extensive back fatalities. (Monday 2 February 2015; 7:53)
Oh Mariah (49,607)
by Badr from USA
I'm starting to think we are seeing Mariah's spectacular career decline. She keeps doing these performances that are seriously damaging her reputation as one of the finest singers in the world, not to mention the AI debacle. She could've taken some time off after the disappointing results she got with MIAM. Having said that, I don't think the Vegas residency is a feasible idea for two reasons. She clearly needs time to prepare her voice, and she might not be popular enough to validate so many consecutive shows. In that sense, I don't see why a new edition of #1's is necessary. Her last studio album didn't attract people, why would "another" compilation? Do people really care she scored 18 #1's? The partnership with L.A. Reid produced some of her best and most popular work today (TEOM), but let's not forget he was also behind the wheel during E=MC2 and MOAIA. With E=MC2, they dropped the ball with the single choices, whereas MOAIA is her weakest album so far. I'm not hating, simply stating the facts. (Monday 2 February 2015; 7:53)

Sad (49,605)

Reading all these comments is truly heartbreaking. Whatever is happening behind closed doors, my ultimate concern is for Mariah's well being. I hope she is alright. She is always in my prayers. (Monday 2 February 2015; 7:39)
Mariah Mariah Mariah (49,604)
by Ethan from United States
Yes the Jazz Festival was a mess and I hope she knew that. In the end, Mariah will hear and see from her fans and she will not disrespect them again. Let's be fair and honest, Mariah's voice is not the same as she was in her 20s but she can still sing. She has it in her. The difference between Mariah and other female singers is the expectation of the voice. What I mean is that when people come to see Mariah, they want to hear live performances. You don't expect that from Britney Spears' fans or people that see her show because they don't care or they are just loyal fans. I went to see Britney in Vegas for the entertainment, performance, and specularity, which I knew that the entire show or almost of it was mimed and I don't care because I love singing to those songs and the whole production kind of made up for it. I really hope that people, including us go easy on Mariah a bit and support her Vegas residency. She will pull it through in Vegas because it is under her control where she has a whole team just like at the Beacon Theater to go through rehearsals and careful production. Yes the Vegas residency will be lip-synched for some parts but that is fine to me because music production is complicated with many vocal layers and such. Best of luck with Mariah and her team but please get it together. We care, enjoy, and love you. (Monday 2 February 2015; 7:34)
Regrouping (49,603)
by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I hope Mariah can take some time to re-group. She seems to be throwing herself into work, and honestly it feels like she's masking a lot of stuff right now. I just want the best for her and if that means no performing for a while, so be it. (Monday 2 February 2015; 7:11)
Silver Hill intervention required (49,602)
by Brad from USA
The Jamaica Jazz Festival performance reflects an individual who appears to be chemically dependent and mentally unbalanced. Persons focusing on vocals, attire and hair are woefully missing the point. An immediate intervention is required for the well being of the person at hand. Another moderate term, involuntary commitment to a first-rate facility, such as Silver Hill in Connecticut, would best serve the person that is Mariah to address both of these issues. Unfortunately, it does not seem that there is anyone, either on or off her payroll, who is able or willing to take such a stance with her at this point. I take note of and question the seeming absence of Patricia Carey and other supposedly close family members. I wish that we, as fans, had the power to take her by the hand and guide her to these doors of help. Is there not someone who cares for her enough to do this? To see her for who she is as a person and reach out a hand to her because she is languishing and severely needs that hand. I fear the worst is near without such an intervention, but as the biggest, oldest dang lamb in the land, I pray that a true friend will guide her to the help she both needs and deserves. Jamaica performance (49,601)
by 123 from USA
I could care less what she was wearing or how her hair looked. It's really not important in the grand scheme of things and that isn't what everyone was complaining about. I actually liked what she wore, minus that glove. It all boils down to her vocals. The Fantasy performance was plain lazy and I do not understand why she insists on lip synching. Her improvised versions sounded great, her voice was a little deeper, darker, more soulful than it's sounded in years, and then she decides to let the now very obvious back track take over the climaxes of every song. Why not improve that as well? If you can't hit the F5s in Always Be My Baby, change it. I'm tired of her lipping that part, it's always cringe worthy to watch. I loved what she did with WBT until she walked off the stage and decided to let the pre-recorded vocals do the rest. She seemed intoxicated while singing ABMB at the 2:40 mark. That was the face of being under the influence and possibly a heartbreak because he isn't coming back. I need her to sing, the whole song, live. If she continues her lip synching, her career will end in Vegas and the 1's album will flop. (Monday 2 February 2015; 6:02)
It's so sad that its uncomfortably funny (49,600)
by Alexis Morell Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan from USA
I had to laugh nervously and walk away from the screen after looking at Fantasy. These warning signs are so obvious. I'd kill someone for her, and even I am not interested in spending my hard earned money to fly to Vegas and see her, because as soon as I hear hear thin 2015 belts mix with a dramatic "I don't wanna cry" album version dub/re-record/whatever, I'm gonna boo and probably be put out. At the end of the day, she is an investment by fans. I pay for her and her children's lifestyles. If she doesn't want to hear my opinion, then she needs to write me a check reimbursing me for 17 years of fan service and we can call it a day. *snaps* (Monday 2 February 2015; 6:00)
It's time to get it together (49,599)
by Darryle from USA
It's time for Mariah to cut the crap and get it together. It's as if she's purposely planning her downfall. The lambily needs to stop making excuses and turning a blind eye for her. Tech problems are okay every so often because no one's perfect. But when they happen with every show it's probably not completely the tech guys fault. Walking off stage shows a complete lack of disrespect for your audience no matter who you are. Hitting a few belts and then turning the mic to the audience isn't going to convince me you've got your voice back. It's time for Mariah to wake up from whatever dream she's in and realize that if something doesn't change now, the legacy that she's worked her whole life to build will be ruined. (Monday 2 February 2015; 4:17)
Vocalists versus performers (49,598)
by Randy from USA
People keep talking about all the other people that lip sync: Beyonce, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Madonna. I'm sorry, are they vocalists or performers? What should MC be considered? Right. A vocalist. Patti never lip synced. Aretha never lip synced. Barbra never lip synced. And Whitney went out like a soldier regardless of where her voice was. If a fireman can't fight fires he gets fired. If a teacher can no longer teach he gets fired. What happens to a singer that no longer sings well? Oh, nothing. They continue to rake in millions and have fans who make a fraction of what they make and spend a week worth of earnings to see them, defend them. I still believe MC has some magic in her. I can't let go of that Fallon impromptu performance. But what's going on now is going to hurt her legacy and for someone who said this isn't getting the attention of Rockafeller NYC Christmas performance, this is on TMZ. She's becoming a joke and may not achieve icon status if this continues. I also agree with Edward, in addition. You cannot keep throwing whistle noted out there and saying she still has it. Whistle registers do not make great vocalists. If that was the case, Chante Moore, Shanice and a few others would be legends too. MC is supposedly 7 octaves and it's starting to seem that only 2 of them make it to live, not prerecorded shows. (Monday 2 February 2015; 4:03)
Hit or miss, is that the question? / 5th Harmony (49,596)
by Edward from USA
If these "hit or miss" type of performances don't improve one way or the other, Mariah is going to start experiencing what Whitney went through during her last tour, it's only a matter of time. Some, in their wishful thinking, keep on finding a thousand excuses to make it seem as if everything is ok, but the blindest person is the one who refuses to see. Even her biggest apologist are finding it harder and harder to come up with reasonable excuses for her, when we all know what the problem is, the unpredictable condition of her voice. She could go on stage with a raggedy outfit, but if she sings well, that's what matters. Hit or miss is not acceptable when you are being paid good money. Her audience deserves a fair deal: genuine money for an at least acceptable performance. On another note, I'm loving "Like Mariah" form Firth Harmony. I like the way they use the sample. I wanted to comment on your post about MC playing in Jamaica, and it being one of the worst countries in the world to be gay because of their intolerance and violence towards gays. I honestly don't think MC only cares about her her gay fandom to the extent of them supporting her career. I didn't know how bad it was over there until you mentioned it and I looked it up. She might have not known either. You do have a good point and I wanted to validate your post instead of just ignoring it because maybe it truly does bother you. I couldn't think of anything to say that wouldn't seem insensitive because I will never truly understand your plight. Hopefully MC or her manager (when she gets one) will read these comments and be more discriminating of where they book shows. A large portion of her fandom are gay or gay supporters and that should be taken into consideration when planning future projects. (Monday 2 February 2015; 3:23)
What could be (49,594)
by Ardis Logic from Earth
Flipping through the channels tonight I happened to see Katy Perry's half time show at the super bowl. I'm not a fan of hers but she was awesome. Full of energy, she was focused, costumes changes were super fast. I know Mariah could put on just as good a show as she did and with an even better vocal range. It's really all about being professional. Yes the Super Bowl is a huge show but it should not matter. Always do your best no matter what. That's my opinion. (Monday 2 February 2015; 2:34)
