If Rhianna can score a top ten with four, five seconds, we have a problem. She is currently at number 6. Mariah should seriously wake up now because Rhianna means business. Someone that sings with sir Paul is looking for a number one hit. Mariah needs a monster hit. A big uptempo number in the realm of uptown funk, something really massive that people will find hard to resist. She needs a song that will be bigger than any negative press, a song that people can really groove to. With this upcoming number ones album, she could release about 5 new tracks with big hit makers. The hip hop has to go now, back to pop/rnb grooves. She could even throw in a few edms into mix. She should basically try new things. No more rap collabos because it has been beaten to death. Please Mariah, your fans will be seriously let down if someone like Rhianna surpasses you. (Thursday 12 February 2015; 22:26)

If I am not mistaken, Patti isn't actually Mariah's Godmother. She just calls her that out of love and respect for her. I think Patti and Mariah met after she became a star, and since Mariah was always a fan of Patti and Patti likes Mariah so MC calls Patti her Godmother. Patti didn't know Mariah up until after she became famous. Plus I do not think MC had diva behavior since she was a child. She had quite a hard life and if you even see her up until early 2000s, she was pretty humble and down to earth. The diva behavior came later as a disguise, an alter ego if you will, which later engulfed her completely. And what stepfather are you talking about? (Thursday 12 February 2015; 21:37)

Mariah goes on tour with 20 concerts, but only Japan goes viral. Mariah sings a 16 song setlist, but only Fantasy goes viral. Both are the very first while the others are ignored. This is why people shouldn't make judgments based off clips of bits and pieces. In Jamaica, Mariah took a lozenge out of her mouth and called it "Nordic medicine". She went live on Ellen and said she was suffering bronchitis. Being mental or drunk may be "sexier" ailments for some people, but it appears the reality is more mediocre. Travel and stress doesn't agree very well with MC this year and she's struggling with throat inflammation. She was blind-sighted by a divorce right before Christmas, fired help lawsuits, low propositions for labels that will ultimately not invest much in her work. All that in the past 2 months. You can plan for concert dates, but you can't plan an illness. Throat issues would require last minute changes to the setlist and how you can sing it. Missing a sound check makes it all the worse. The sheer fact MC's best vocals this year came from her Christmas shows only emphasizes how staying in one place with a controlled environment is crucial for her right now. Since Vegas will provide her with those conditions, how the show plays out will be entirely up to what she does. (Thursday 12 February 2015; 19:42)
Another threat (50,061)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Would be unfortunately Katy Perry. She has quite a few number 1s. Her last album had 2 major number 1s and the Super Bowl performance kind of gave her a huge boost. (Thursday 12 February 2015; 18:14)

Rihanna actually is the biggest threat. She is not past her peak. She just scored a number 1 with Eminem a while back. She is young and has a huge fan following. Don't forget that people thought Mariah's career has peaked and was going into decline when Glitter happened. No one thought she'd bounce back but she came back with 3 more #1's, so underestimating Rihanna isn't wise. Taylor Swift is someone who Mariah can worry about later. She has 3 number #1s. Once she reaches 10, that's when she's a threat. I would however love for MC to work with Taylor and see what they can cook up, they are both great songwriters. One other thing I see people saying is that MC will still have the record of female songwriter with most #1's, while that is true, at this point you guys are just clutching on to whatever you have. How many times did you hear Mariah being promoted as the female songwriter with most #1's during an interview introduction or video montage during performances on shows and concerts? It's always "artist with most #1 hits", "over 200 million albums sold" and "the voice". Mariah has many records under her name, but her being able to hold the 18 number 1s for so long is one of her top selling points, so if she wants to keep that image, the work needs to start. Coinsidence? (50,059)

Someone in the comments below pointed out that Aretha was Whitney's Godmother. Well then I remembered that Patti Labelle is Mariah's Godmother. Hmm interesting right? Also, Mariah has always had connections, the problem was non of the people around her believed in her for what ever reason (which I can't beleive, but I'm guessing it was her diva personality she had since she was a child). If Patti Labelle is your Godmother, and your stepfather and you brother had connections, why was it so hard for Mariah considering her level of talent and beauty? Please shed light on this someone. My All live at Saturday Night Live 1997 (50,057)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
In my humble view, Mariah's best performance of My All would be at SNL 1997. That's where she looked the best, golden side-parted hair and she's wearing a red top, black suit and black pants, talk about sexy and classy at the same time. Her voice was on point, lower, middle and high range were all perfectly executed. She seemed to be in full confidence and in control of the performance. How I wish the new generations would be able to see this performance. Somehow, deep inside me, I wish Mariah could deliver her vocals just like this performance again. Make-up and Mariah (50,056)
by Luis from Spain
Am I the only one who thinks she uses far too much make-up? In the TEOM era she looked fresh and natural but now she paints herself and looks older. Okay, yes, TEOM was 10 years ago but we have seen no-make-up pics of her and she looks stunning. She has a really good skin. (Thursday 12 February 2015; 15:46)

Rhianna is not a threat. She will not meet or exceed 18 number one singles. Her peak has past and I personally think she is losing ground. I think who we really need to watch is Taylor Swift. She writes her own material and everytime she drops something it shoots to number 1. And, people buy her albums. Mariah has still got some more number 1 material in within her. Epic needs to provide proper promotion. I still say Mariah will beat The Beatles record of 20 number ones. (Thursday 12 February 2015; 15:23)
Mariah Carey (50,054)
by B from USA
Mariah Carey needs a stylist like Rachel Zoe or Eric Daman. She needs a manager like Benny. She needs a team like she had in the 90's. If she makes these changes and works with the producers of the moment she'll easily regain her throne. Her last divorce inspired Butterfly and I don't think she loved Tommy and they didn't have children. I'm dying to hear her next studio album. It's going to be epic. You can quote me on that if you want. (Thursday 12 February 2015; 14:40)

I'm guessing the main reason they're releasing an updated version of #1's is to raise money for the next project. Since records aren't selling like they used to, maybe the artists aren't given money up front to record anymore. Since MIAMTEC didn't do well commercially, maybe they don't want to chance it. Also, a lot of people don't know what her #1's are, so this way they'll all be together. A part of me wishes it didn't include new tracks, or only two new tracks that were heavily promoted and would end up being #1's, so that the album would truly be all of her #1 hits. I know a lot of people may not buy it that way but I would. Especially if it was reasonably priced, $10-$13. (Thursday 12 February 2015; 1:36)
Nasty to younger artist (50,050)
by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia
Yet she had embraced Beyonce, Rihanna, Pink, Jazmine Sullivan, Jordin Sparks, Kelly Clarkson, 5th Harmony, even Nicki at the beginning. I'm just saying some of this is just perception. Beyonce and Rihanna (if anyone) are her biggest threats, so if she was so insecure and nasty to other females why so much love and support for them? (Thursday 12 February 2015; 1:04)
Aretha (50,049)
by B from USA
Aretha was Whitney's God mother or whatever and was so insecure that she was rude to her during a recording session or so the story goes. My point is Mariah has never disrespected an artist like Aretha did and does. With the exception of Madonna, who asked for it. I don't get the hype surrounding Aretha. She has a powerful from the gut style of singing but her voice isn't as good or better than Patti's, Whitney's, or Mariah's. Mariah does embrace females. She just gave Fifth Harmony a shout out on Twitter and she praises Bey. I don't blame her for throwing shade Ariana's way when her whole career is built on being the next or new Mariah when she's clearly not. When I think of a great singer I think of Mariah, Whitney, Patti, Luther, and Bob Dylan. Mariah Carey is untouchable in the studio. (Thursday 12 February 2015; 0:54)

Jaker20 and how to get rid of the MC blues (50,047)
by Randy from USA
I don't like Rihanna and yet I agreed with your entire post. MC is too legendary to be so nasty to younger artists and Rihanna did sing live and I do not believe MC's Fly Like A Bird was 100% live. And yet at the time when I posted it, everyone attacked me. I'm gonna say this one last time. MC on wax is amazing. Live is something else. What the disconnect is, we can all speculate. But what everyone agrees with is image-wise, eternally 12, and being mean to other artist isn't endearing. I love her. The other day I put on a random shuffle of her catalogue and it reminded me through even my own negativity why this woman is an uncelebrated ICON. You're So Cold, I Don't Wanna Cry, Twister, Reflections, Obsession remix with Gucci, Mine Again and Without You played. Hardly any of that is related genre-wise or producer-wise and name one female artist who can write and produce such an enjoyable and diverse body of work. I challenge you all to shuffle all of MC and be reminded why we fell in love and be hopeful the voice gets straigtened out. (Thursday 12 February 2015; 0:24)

Whatever happened to The Butler? (50,045)
by MC1989 from Spain
Today I saw this clip from Mariah's scenes in The Buttler. Can someone tell me what happened to the movie? Is it avaliable on DVD? I think it was never released in Europe. No promotion at all. It's a pitty. Mariah earned respect from the critics with Precious and it was a successful movie in many countries, not just in the States. (Wednesday 11 February 2015; 23:18)
Key word Deedre aka MiTodoChop (50,044)
by May from Denmark
While I don't agree with all the "spiritual" stuff (all that is bollocks for me haha) I think you hit the nail when you mentioned the word "auto-pilot". It is exactly how I felt when I saw MC performing this last time and the reason why she might have been off and late to her lip synch parts. It's as if her mind was somewhere else, as if she was there on auto-pilot physically but mentally she was just not there. Clearly she is going through things like you said that the general public doesn't know. I hope Mariah takes the time for herself, she clearly needs it. It's still missing months for Las Vegas, it's a good time to recover. (Wednesday 11 February 2015; 23:15)
Number one (50,043)
by Otti from Belgium
I think it's easier now to score a number one, than back in the 90's, especially for young new artist, look at Katy and Gaga. They jump on the hype, work with hot producers, they want it so badly. There were Mariah was. Always in charge in the studio when she works with new producers, like on songs Honey, [...] and Obsessed. I still don't get why Mariah is left out on the Grammy's so many times. Even Jay Z said [...] to Mariah that he thought that she's got more Grammy's than he saw in her showcase. I don't even get the nominees for [...] latest album. All the singles she released from that album were like really weak. For me this is the year that the Grammy's has no value any more. One positive note: I'm happy for the award for Toni Braxton and Babyface for [...] duet album. (Wednesday 11 February 2015; 23:10)
Jamaica (50,042)
by MC1989 from Spain
I really think Mariah still has a great voice. "Vision of love" in Jamaica sounded very good. Some parts of "I'll be there" sounded very good too. She sounds confident, with energy, "very soul music". But that's not enough. I said it before, she should work with a vocal coach and rehearse her new turns and improvisations. Stop doing playback and start exercising her voice. Yes, she's Mariah Carey, the big diva, but she needs a professional working with her, telling her how to take breath while singing and giving her advices to avoid damage in her chords. Celine Dion has a vocal coach and many other singers. I think it would be great for her and she would improve a lot her singing. (Wednesday 11 February 2015; 23:01)
Bill (50,040)

Yup. (Re Looking In) That's honestly what it feels like watching her. I'm not trying to come off as some "know it all" (lol) It is just honestly what I feel watching her now. There's so much more going on beneath the surface, that the media and the public generally gloss over. She's clearly not happy with a lot. Sometimes big transition/change can feel numbing. People might go on a sort of auto-pilot, feel like they need to be doing something, but nothing feels the as it did, and you just don't know what do really. Especially if the person might be feeling disconnected or angry spiritually just in general. I've watched it first-had this year. My dad transitioned in the fall, and my faith has been the rock that has given me so much peace and comfort with everything. I know that although the form of our relationship has changed with him no longer "here" in the physical sense, of the word, he's with me everyday, because love doesn't end. It has nothing to do with the body, because the body isn't who we are. Who we are is spirit. That doesn't end when we leave the body. Not to get really deep or anything (lol) but my step-mom doesn't have that same foundation, so her experience of my dad's passing has felt very different for her. We know MC has a strong faith, but sometimes we just need time to go through whatever we need to go through in whatever time it takes before we're ready to say "OK, this isn't working, I'm ready to create something else in my life." I know some fans are frustrated, and just want her to "get it together" ultimately, even the most pissed-off angry fans just want to see her thriving. Otherwise, people wouldn't get so passionate in their opinions. Clearly there are some issues, and we can discuss what she should do all day long, but at the end of the day, it just has to play out. Everyone deserves compassion, even when we flat out disagree with whatever it appears they are doing (or not doing), as the saying goes about walking a mile in someone else's shoes.
