Number one (50,043) by Otti from Belgium
I think it's easier now to score a number one, than back in the 90's, especially for young new artist, look at Katy and Gaga. They jump on the hype, work with hot producers, they want it so badly. There were Mariah was. Always in charge in the studio when she works with new producers, like on songs Honey, [...] and Obsessed. I still don't get why Mariah is left out on the Grammy's so many times. Even Jay Z said [...] to Mariah that he thought that she's got more Grammy's than he saw in her showcase. I don't even get the nominees for [...] latest album. All the singles she released from that album were like really weak. For me this is the year that the Grammy's has no value any more. One positive note: I'm happy for the award for Toni Braxton and Babyface for [...] duet album.

Jamaica (50,042) by MC1989 from Spain
I really think Mariah still has a great voice. "Vision of love" in Jamaica sounded very good. Some parts of "I'll be there" sounded very good too. She sounds confident, with energy, "very soul music". But that's not enough. I said it before, she should work with a vocal coach and rehearse her new turns and improvisations. Stop doing playback and start exercising her voice. Yes, she's Mariah Carey, the big diva, but she needs a professional working with her, telling her how to take breath while singing and giving her advices to avoid damage in her chords. Celine Dion has a vocal coach and many other singers. I think it would be great for her and she would improve a lot her singing.

Yup. (Re Looking In) That's honestly what it feels like watching her. I'm not trying to come off as some "know it all" (lol) It is just honestly what I feel watching her now. There's so much more going on beneath the surface, that the media and the public generally gloss over. She's clearly not happy with a lot. Sometimes big transition/change can feel numbing. People might go on a sort of auto-pilot, feel like they need to be doing something, but nothing feels the as it did, and you just don't know what do really. Especially if the person might be feeling disconnected or angry spiritually just in general. I've watched it first-had this year. My dad transitioned in the fall, and my faith has been the rock that has given me so much peace and comfort with everything. I know that although the form of our relationship has changed with him no longer "here" in the physical sense, of the word, he's with me everyday, because love doesn't end. It has nothing to do with the body, because the body isn't who we are. Who we are is spirit. That doesn't end when we leave the body. Not to get really deep or anything (lol) but my step-mom doesn't have that same foundation, so her experience of my dad's passing has felt very different for her. We know MC has a strong faith, but sometimes we just need time to go through whatever we need to go through in whatever time it takes before we're ready to say "OK, this isn't working, I'm ready to create something else in my life." I know some fans are frustrated, and just want her to "get it together" ultimately, even the most pissed-off angry fans just want to see her thriving. Otherwise, people wouldn't get so passionate in their opinions. Clearly there are some issues, and we can discuss what she should do all day long, but at the end of the day, it just has to play out. Everyone deserves compassion, even when we flat out disagree with whatever it appears they are doing (or not doing), as the saying goes about walking a mile in someone else's shoes.

Everybody is saying MC sounded good in Jamaica. I guess we all have a different definition of "good". I really hope she ups her lip sync game.

Grammies / records/ criticism (50,038) by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia
The Grammies has never been here for Mariah and we should all know by now that's is just a popularity contest with no real merit. So I don't get how some of you could measure MC's impact or relevancy by Grammy awards appearances/performances, when she never needed them be successful and legendary in the first place. Secondly it doesn't even matter if Rihanna does surpass Mariah in number 1 hits because Mariah will still hold the title of "female artist/songwriter that has written the most number one hits", so all this fuss over Rihanna is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. Thirdly after watching a few clips of the Jamaica performances, I'm not really too mad. Of course there were rough spots and bad moments, but atleast she tried to make up for it by singing live and putting a new spin on some of her songs (something I've always yearned for her to do) and I loved her for it. After reevaluating everything I agree with the people that feel that it would been more tactful for Nathan Morris to address her personally and not on FB. I know I would want people calling me out on my ish on FB. Back to the Grammies, Madonna looked and sounded a fool to me, I don't see how anyone could've found that to be epic, Annie Lennox was spectacular, I'm so happy Sam Smith swept the Grammies, and is it just me or does nothing about Beyonce's catalogue scream 20 Grammies. No shade, but shade.

Rihanna (50,037) by jaker20 from US
Rihanna has nothing but great things to say about MC, calls her voice "freak of nature", and name her as a main influence. Yet some fans are so insecure and defensive when Rihanna's name is brought up. No one says Rihanna is more talented, probably even Rihanna will say that. I mean come on, let's face it, MC played the charts too, just like everybody else, so let's not act as if Rihanna doesn't deserve her accomplishments. What goes around comes around. Honestly, I think this is partly why MC is on downward slope to full-time has-been. MC fans are so spoiled by MC's 90s success. They are nasty against other artists, that MC seem to gain more haters than fans each passing year until she's got no more fans left. And unlike Madonna or Beyonce, it doesn't help that MC doesn't seem to get along with new artists. She's in her own diva-I-am-better-than-everyone world and hardly compliments other artists. Just for full disclosure, I do love Rihanna, but she's nowhere near as talented as MC vocally. But mediocre as Rihanna's voice is, at least she sang 100% live last weekend at the Grammy's. Something I can't say about MC's 2006 Grammy performance, and that was supposedly one of MC's banner years. Yes, time to admit it, MC's peformance of Fly Like A Bird was not 100% live, let's stop fooling ourselves. I love MC but I call it as it is.

I think Mariah slayed VOL in Jamaica (50,036) by Nick from USA

I mean, her vocals were kinda on point for most of the song. Her voice obviously hasn't gotten any worse, I just think she was acting so strange because she was a little tipsy.

05 VOL perfomance (50,034) by Warrior Butterfly from USA
Mark 2:29 I love her growl she doesn't do this very often it fit great with VOL the poor her heart out feel. It's tied with If It's Over on SNL 1991. More growl would would be nice it's also featured in ATYNAF toward the end.

The Grammys (50,033) by Marissa from USA
As much as I'm aware of the fact that MC deserves way more Grammys than what she has, I don't have the time, energy or will to keep getting mad year after year that she doesn't win. We shouldn't depend on these political awards shows to validate her artistry. She's a musical genius with a prolific body of work. That's all I need to know.

I just listened to that yesterday. I was thinking so many years have passed and now I know what she meant. Though I'm wondering with all those hits from when she first came out to the date of that Daydream album if she is saying that was never a part of who I was.

MC (50,031) by B from USA
I'll continue to support Mariah Carey because she's earned my loyalty. I'm taking my little cousin to Las Vegas to see Mariah and she's just as excited as I am. Mariah Carey is still relevant because of her talent. If she was only the voice her career would have tanked just like Whitney's and Celine's.

RihRih (50,030) by B from USA
She may break Mariah's record of most #1's but she'll never beak Mariah's records for female songwriter and producer with the most #1's. After the fuss the media made about MC, who has talent, breaking the King's record do you really think those old men are going to let an auto-tuned sexbot like Rhianna who is still young and using it as her key marketing tactic do the same?

Deedre (50,029) by Bill from the UK
"She smiles through a thousand tears." Never before has her lyric been more relevant than perhaps today.

Rihanna (50,028) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I don't think anyone said that Rihanna is even quarter as good as Mariah. The girl can't even sing. However it is true that she is the strongest contender to take Mariah's #1's record. It doesn't matter whether she got her #1's by singing a hook on another person's song or whatever, it will be counted as her #1. So that's a fact. She is young and has time to scoop up more #1's. Let's not forget that Mariah grabbed 3 of her #1's in her mid to late 30's. While Mariah still will have a magnificent legacy, she will no longer be able to promote herself as the artist with the most #1 singles because this along with her "over 200 million albums sold" and "the voice" are the key points her promoters use. So that's why Rihanna is a risk. No one is thinking she is better than Mariah so calm the eff down.

Mariah and the Grammys (50,026) by Ethan from United States
Here's my issue with the Grammys. It's a hate/love/hate relationship. I'm not upset that Mariah hadn't won as many Grammys as she should've but I'm more pissed at how she was cheated/treated/tricked by the Recording Academy. So this is my conspiracy theory. At every award show, at least 3 people know who's going to win the award. Back in 2006, all of her R&B categories were presented in the pre-telecast. At some point, someone in the production knew that Mariah wasn't going to win SOTY, ROTY, and AOTY for WBT. At the same year, two of the Pop categories were presented and Kelly Clarkson won and got on stage and made a speech. Yes she deserved it. I don't hate on her. Mariah didn't have opportunities to go on stage to accept and make a speech. In fact, she hasn't had any acceptance time since 1991 for her first album (by the way, that album is so much better than Sam Smith's and his first single). It's so messed up that it happened to her. And the year after, how conveniently Mary J Blige's R&B categories were presented on stage and she won for BWY. So either the producers knew that she wasn't going with for SOTY and ROTY or they did that on purpose. Then in 2009, Mariah was invited to perform at the Grammy Nominations concert. Everyone knew that if they got invited to perform, they would at least get 1 freaking nomination. Nope. Not Mariah. She opened the show with CBPCH and went home empty handed. Most people expected that she was going to get ROTY for TMB or something. And the rant continues. And yet she's still gracious and grateful to the Recording Academy. She interviewed for them for American Idol and then for #Beautiful. It's also for her to promote but still I feel that she's being used by them. And here's the breakdown of Grammy nominations that I think she should have won. I don't buy that vote-splitting theory. VOL should have won for ROTY and maybe AOTY for her debut. OSD and WBT should have won for ROYT. Here's why. Sometimes, the Grammys' SOTY goes with message/theme ("From a distance", "Change the world", "Daughters", "Sometimes you can't make it on your own", "Royals", etc) or a powerful ballad ("My heart will go on", "Need you know", "Rolling in the deep", etc). VOL lost to Bette Midler's "From a distance" and I can see that makes sense but it's a better record than Phil Collins for ROTY. Mariah's debut is so much better than most artists' first album. She was robbed. In 1996, OSW should have won for ROTY. Hands down. For WBT, I can see why it lost to U2 for SOTY because the Grammys went for the message/theme song and they had less writers than WBT. But, it should have won for ROTY. It was the biggest record that year. She was robbed again. How often have you heard it over Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and Kayne West's "Gold Digger"? Yet they blamed it on the vote-splitting. BS. P.S. I'm secretly smiling inside that Beyonce lost because I want Mariah to win first. She's the only one out of the big 3 divas that hasn't won S/R/AOTY.

Another dress (50,024) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Another gorgeous outfit Mariah wore was for Top of the Pops performance in 2005. It was a champagne yet silvery sparkly number which completely covers her front side but is open at the back. She looks beautiful in it and it was a mini dress which showed off her amazing legs.

Lets be honest (50,023) by Travon..SweetSweetFantasy from USA
Mariah Carey's career is defined by her voice, collaborations, her fans, personal life, and the media. We never look at Mariah the human. Perfection is not always warranted. We cant expect her to give us 100% every night after 25 years. People here keep on acting entitled to know everything and always try to reach for something to talk about. [...] She doesn't have to prove anything to anyone. She doesn't really care to speak to the media nor the fans about her personal life. That's called being classy. Mariah has always been mum about her personal life, pictures excluded. All of a sudden some fans don't get what they want and they go to her personal issues to attack her, then try to mask their claims as constructive; Please. If you don't like what Mariah carey is doing, find someone else to like. Mariah will always be relevant because she is not defined by one group of people, unlike most of today's artist. We should all try to focus on something that's actually happening longterm, like Vegas. I can only name 4-5 shows Mariah supposedly lipsynch within the last 3 years versus the many times other artist do on a daily basis. They have no backlash but when Mariah does, it's like, [...]. Now after Vegas if these issues persist, I will own up and apologize for these pointless arguments today. Until then, I suggest we move on.

The blue/purple dress (50,022) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
No that dress was a hot mess. Nothing about it was good. It wasn't a proper fit, I don't know what the designer had in his vision but the whole waist area seemed like a lot of material scrunched up together and pulled back. The whole dress basically looked like a satin bed sheet was taken and wrapped around Mariah and they knotted on her shoulder in a huge bow, and then cinched at the waist to by scrunching up the material to fit her waist line. It's a very bad gown to say the least. The only good thing about the gown is it's beautiful color and that it covers the boobs. But Mariah has had better gowns in similar category, the best I think would be the plum-maroon gown one shouldered gown she wore on AI, and she had the gorgeous old Hollywood glam hair going on. I'm attaching a picture, I don't know if the webmaster will post it.

Re: Mariah's fans are no lambs (50,021) by Warrior Butterfly from USA
Lamb or fan, I believe we all know why and when we became fans or lambs which ever best identifies the reader. Mariah is not the only artist to lose or gain fans through a career. I think the cycle of people that come and go is a natural occurrence for any entertainer. Their are those of us that prefer classic Mariah Carey (the Columbia years), there are those that prefer Mimi (Island Def Jam to today). These two incarnation are what appeals to the audience be it image, voice, style of music being produced, live performances and so on. Something from these evolutions either drew people to her or away depending on personal preference. When Butterfly was released I remember a lot of people though she went nuts and abandoned ship. Others this is when Mariah was introduced to them. A version of her that was more urban and modern so it reached a younger audience. Same can be said with Mimi, some left some joined the ride. I wounder if any of the new observers when ever they came along has ever done a full examination of her 25+ year anthology as entire body of work.

Rihanna as a threat, a big joke (50,020) by JAXGH from United States
Rihanna is 26, not 24. Technically she only has 10. Live Your Life, Love The Way You Lie and Monster are only features. She also wrote and produced 0 of those 13 songs. Rihanna has a good voice but even if she scores more number 1's, Mariah's legacy will never ever be touched. Ever. Please don't ever think that Rihanna will even come close. Mariah wrote and produced all 18 except one. She co wrote and co produced every single song in every album, makes you realize how much of a hard worker she is. And the great thing about those number ones is you know it's really Mariah's heart and soul. Rihanna has a great ear for music but she gets by, by singing other people's songs. What will happen if she hits 30 and is not favored by producers anymore? Mariah was there from the scratch to completion of every song. Rihanna will never surpass Mariah's legacy as a song-writer, producer, vocalist and an inspiration. She actually mentioned she looked up to Mariah all her life so that's good she's following her footsteps, but please, there will never be another artist like Mariah freaking Carey. The greatest artist of all time.

I'll Be There in Jamaica (50,019) by Lee TS from USA

To me she's using her pain to express herself here. There are some great moments and is a totally new version of IBT. And for the fans concern about #1's and whatnot, records are meant to be broken.

VOL in Jamaica / #1's album (50,018) by Abraham from USA
I don't see what all the hype about that performance is about? I'm not impressed. Definitely not anywhere near as good as '05's BET Blueprint. That has been Mariah's last strong performance of "VOL". I mean she really "sang" that song. Also, I don't understand why Mariah would release a new version of a #1's album? That's not going to do a thing for her. She needs a whole brand new album. And like George stated when he asked what is she doing, I hope she's working on her voice and with some producers. I applaud how she lets lesser females like Beyonce catch up and take her spotlight. With her illuminati self, Beyonce is no where near as good of a singer as Mariah. Or as talented. It took about 17 or more producers to make Beyonce's last album. That's hilarious. I want Mariah to come back with a vengeance and just literally slay everyone. Including Ariana's wanna be a**.

Stacey, exactly (50,017) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Watching her (as I said to Bill the other day), it feels like she's doing her best to cope through this time in her life. Although she puts on a smile and she might seem to be having fun and smiling up there with all those ad-libs, it truly feels like the opposite is Mariah's reality at the moment. She's human, not a machine - and as you said emotions can take their toll if we let them. Nathan was getting at all of this with his comments. Mariah is the only one who can go within and make a choice when she's ready, and she might not be ready yet. But, when she is, the world will know it. No excuses just the truth.
