One thing Mariah has always had through anything is her professionalism but just lately she hasn't been acting professional or respectfully to the people paying for her shows or albums. I love Mariah so much I will always support her but she needs to reign it all in. I actually think watching the latest performances although disjointed and shocking (watching her walk off stage mid climax of WBT) it's kind of funny too in a nice way she makes me laugh because she's such a diva and can at the minute get away with it and she actually a endears me. I don't mind paying to see her lip sync so long as she makes the effort to hide it. I also think it would be wise and damage controlling to discuss a little bt of her private life, directly but not going into too much detail just so everyone knows what's going on and then she can move on to the music and let the general public know that the no. 1 diva is back. Mariah in Jamaica (49,556)
by LC from USA
I know that most of you are preoccupied with her hair and her dresses right now, but I really don't think this Jamaica show was a complete disaster. It brought Mariah the vocalist and musician back to my eyes and ears. She was never a great performer, nor a fashionista, so I don't really see all the fuss. Also, she's been lip syncing Fantasy remix since 1997, so we know she can lipsync to it correctly. There was obviously a problem with the sound in her monitor, but I am not trying to convince anyone. Here, for the lambs that care, is a video of some, and only some, of her greatest moments during the show. I have not seen her belt this effortlessly since The Charmbracelet Tour, and I am so happy with her improvisations. She's obviously more comfortable performing all of a sudden, and I think we should applaud that, especially with the recent scandals and turmoil. She looked sexy, with the weight loss, and she sounded amazing. We asked her to change up arrangements, be more confident on stage, and slay effortlessly. Well, she did. I just wish you'd all be able to see that. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 17:18)
Someday (49,553)
by Otti from Belgium
When I became a fan of Mariah, she was known as a perfectionist. Everything was on point, from her hair to singing to the way she stands or sit. Now she looks tired. I don't get it. If you are not capable to perform, then don't do it. It's like she handed to the critics. Before this Jazz performance, I was daydreaming what if she scores another number one hit while she is giving concerts at Caesars Palace? If she gonna release a number one's album, with new songs, and one of the new songs is a first single to promote the concerts and the album. That would be great. Until then I enjoy myself with YouTube clips, I like her energy at the MSG, singing Someday with her backing vocals. Or "Can't take that away" at the Blockbuster Awards. Needs to fire some folks and pay for real pro team (49,552)
by THE TRUTH from USA
I hope she will take a couple of months off, rests, stays out of the press, fires everybody and anybody responsible for this mess and then rock the house in Vegas. She can't have anymore mishaps, the media will be all over her. It's time to lose the dead weight, the yes men and women, downsize and hire a staff that isn't just a bunch of parasitic money grubbers. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 15:40)
Outfits and hair (49,551)
by Luke from United Kingdom
I don't think Mariah has been too worried about her hair at these performances and on the Elusive tour because of the humidity. There's not much she can do with it when the humid weather is just going to mess it up lol. Also Mariah has said in the past that she loves an opportunity to dress up. I think that's the case with these gowns. I'd imagine it's just a phase. Last year I think it was all meant to work in synergy with the theme of the album (beachy-mermaidesque). She should show off her legs more though because they make her look younger somehow lol. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 15:30)
Mariah and the ear piece debacle (49,550)
by ADAM from USA
Does anyone else think that the ear piece monitor gig she always plays up during performances is a sham? I think it's intentional. I think there is nothing wrong with the audio feedback but it's just a way for her to fidget during performances so that if anyone suspects her of lip syncing she always credits the poor ear pieces. She has been consistently doing this trick for the last 17 years to cover up she can't sing anymore. YouTube any performance from Through The Rain to today. I'm just increasingly annoyed by her money grabbing antics of performing around the world for evil dictators and in countries where their own people are persecuted for being who they are and yet she spins out these horrendous shows. There's no reason in the world why she couldn't lip along to Fantasy correctly or use her own voice. She just keep cashing these checks along while playing us all fans who still want to watch her as fools. She never performs fan favorites "live", doesn't use social media to connect with us nor even changes up the shitty set lists. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 15:12)
MC please (49,549)
by Ardis Logic from Earth
Get it together. I'm saying this as a fan who has loved you since 1990. Yes, you have been through a lot in the last year, but seriously, it's time to (and I really don't like this expression but it really is called for) "put on your big girl panties" and move on. I would love to see MC hire Stacey London to be her stylist. When you present yourself to the world you really need to look your best. When you are off chilling wear what ever you want. When it's time to make that money, polish up the look. I think Mimi has forgotten what it feels like to be broke. To work hard for that little check that gets you through the week. Have some consideration for the fans who are paying a weeks salary just to see you perform. It may not seem like it matters but it really does. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 14:25)
Mariah at Jamaica Jazz and Blues festival (49,548)
by Andy from Germany
Hi there. I hope you are all doing well. I think her performance was incredible judging from the short clips I saw. Hopefully the whole show will be online soon. Concerning "Fantasy", I think that was just a technical malfunction. She couldn't hear what was coming out of the speakers or the monitor earplugs were not on. Plus I am sick of comments on her outfits. She doesn't give a f*** about what people think about her looks and you gotta credit her for that. Have a lovely Sunday everyone. Walk off (49,547)

Slowly destroying her legacy (49,546)
by Ty from USA
I have been accused of thinking Mariah is perfect. In the L.A. Reid and Benny Medina days, Mariah looked beautiful and her vocal issues were kept under wrap. The last 5 years have tarnished Mariah's rep. She is destroying her legacy, it's happening before our eyes. Bad fashion, bad performances, lip-singing nightmares, refusal to sing fan faves, like "Anytime you need a friend" even though it won the contest. This is almost as bad as 2001. I'm 100% disappointed in Mariah. She really does not care. She's chasing money now and forgetting we are paying top dollar and getting chittling circuit performances, ill-fitting gowns, same 10 songs with same lipped hard parts, even her hair looks horrid. It's like the money machine behind her has left. I'm not looking forward to Vegas because I can predict her doing her lazy minimum. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 13:10)
I agree with Nikki (49,545)
by May from Denmark
I also don't think Mariah was meant to lip synch that whole chunk of "Fantasy". All her other songs clearly show she was singing live and without no real problems. "We belong together" sounded really well. It is known that she will lip synch parts of "Fantasy", clearly that song has been a no-go for Mariah since a while, I don't understand why she can't record a new version for her current voice. I still found it painful to watch the clip, because it won't matter anymore if it's a real issue with the sound, people are already smacking her. I don't mind criticizing when is needed, but she sang well other songs in the show, so I definitely think what happened in Fantasy was not meant to be. Hopefully her Vegas show is going to have much better professionals. And I agree with the person who said her show looks "church budget", the choice of dresses were also poor for this show. I don't want full blown gimmicks on stage with tons of gymnastics and fireworks, but something a bit uplifting would go all the way. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 12:39)
Artists lipping (49,544)
by NHYTG from nyc
Just out of curiosity I googled some singers and there have been these stories about lipsyncing about most female singers, from Celine to Beyonce and from Katy to Rihanna not to forget Britney. They all lipsync every now and then and sometimes they make mistakes. So it's not much of a big deal to me. Personally I'm more irritated by this desperate need to show those boobs, I think it's time to let go of that and cover them up. I think for the Vegas shows it would be a nice surprise to see her dressed up more classy. I don't think that will happen though. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 12:21)
Not lipsync / psycho nanny (49,543)
by nikki from usa
MC wasn't trying to lipsync. It's clear she was singing live and not being heard. Clearly, the sound tech played the wrong playback with vocals instead of just chorus. There were parts where you could hear MC singing, but barely since the overlap track drowned her out. Again, notice the earpieces. What she's hearing, clearly is not what the crowd is. This shit continues. It began with Triumphant's half time performance, Australia 2013, Elusive tour, Rockefeller, and now this. Mariah fire your sound tech already. You know there's 200 of them back there. That's the problem, it doesn't take 200 to fix a light bulb or an earpiece. MC didn't get rave reviews because she lipped, it's because she sang great live. Unfortunately, this will be the only thing talked about. A nanny fired a year ago wants 100,000 for 3 months of work because her boss was "demanding". That's insane. A personal assistant works 7 years, but never once demands her overtime since there was nothing in her suit that claimed she was refused or denied it. Both aren't represented by any staffing agency, "contract" was never uttered, and each thinks they are an employee. JD and Randy have never managed a superstar and MC's last backup hire was another backup's niece. I'm thinking these women weren't professionals, but hired by recommendation from MC's staff of buddies. It would explain the low pay, lack of negotiations and contracts, and why MC was going through them faster than laundry. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 9:44)
Discussing lipsync / Marissa (49,542)
by Orkun from The Netherlands
Marissa, your message says it all perfectly. From "she can't sing live" debates, people moved on to "she can't lipsync anymore". Ouch. Painful. Careless. Some vocal moments were cool. Some. During Fantasy, her lips were saying "with my girlfriend" instead of "with my boyfriend". Respectless performance. People pay for this. I would have been furious. Seems to me she has been cashing in for a while now. I'm so embarrassed. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 8:46)
My theory to some of this mess (49,541)
by Amber C from USA
So I will keep it straight forward. Some people around Mariah do not like her. I feel like she is being bullied. Mariah puts on this boss/diva persona, when really she is a shy almost submissive type. This quality hurt her in both her marriages, being that she wasn't a strong woman/emotional with little ol' Nick. Anyway, back to the point. She had wardrobe changes, and every time she would come out there would be technical difficulties? Why? Someone behind the scenes is messing with her. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 6:52)
Jamaica / Brian Wilson (49,540)
by Skip from United States
From watching the "Fantasty" video from the Jamaica concert, it seems to me Mariah was singing live but her mic was not being broadcast through the speakers, and she also could not hear the pre-recorded playback the audience was hearing in her ear pieces. The fact that at the very end of the song her mic goes live and we hear her seems to prove this was the issue. Basically, the sound engineer blew it. And it baffles me how often this happens with her. She seems to be unable to go on stage without having an issue with her mic, her mic pack, her pre-recorded playback, her backup singers, her in-ear devices. I truly think she just doesn't rehearse with the technical crew enough, but that's just me guessing. Also, to the Brian Wilson suggestion. I get it. He's an absolute genius and it's akin to Rihanna working with Paul McCartney. It would be interesting, for sure, but obviously unlikely. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 5:33)
Jazz festival (49,538)
by Darryle from USA
The jazz festival was an okay performance at best. Her vocals were good but whatever happened with Fantasy whether it be lip syncing or mic problems needs to be addressed by Mariah's team. I was so excited for the festival becuase I was hoping she would show sign of letting go of the MIAMTEC era but it looks like she's still stuck in the past. By the time Vegas rolls around she needs to be in a better place vocal and image wise. Or else she'll be ripped to shreds by critics. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 5:26)
Money grab run (49,527)
by Matthew from USA
MC has never been a performer. She never cultivated that as an artist. She never had to. She could literally just show up and sing. Literally. Well, she can't do that anymore because her voice is not reliable. So instead she shows up and lips through difficult parts. And it doesn't have quite the same effect. The problem is, she never cultivated that other performing side because she never had to. Whereas Madonna and JLo, who are also both up there in age, can still pull off live shows because they have had to cultivate that performance side of their artistry all along. So either she is doing all these concerts and live shows as a way to figure out how to develop that performer side (but I see no development) or she's pretty much just doing what they call a money grab run, basically get money while the getting is good with minimum effort. Either way, the only way to resolve this is to sing like she used to, and that is probably not possible any more, so I guess Vegas and the money is the next best thing. Between American Idol and now, MC has definitely got her money grab run skills on point, despite everything else being off. Lol. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 4:54)
Sam Hunt's live cover of Always Be My Baby in Anaheim (49,526)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
I love how the audience at a Sam Hunt concert, who is a country singer-songwriter, are zealously singing along to every single lyric of ABMB. That song is 20 years old and still resonates with people of all ages and across genre preferences like it's nothing. Who else but Mariah can claim something like that? Very few, that's who. I'd love Mariah to work with him, he has a clear affinity for R&B in his music and I just know Mariah can incorporate country selements seamlessly into her sound. She already did with Babyface on Music Box with Never Forget You and JOWAWC on Merry Christmas. Two cents. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 4:08)
Marissa, Abraham, G.G. / Funkin' for Jamaica (49,525)
by Edward from USA
Marissa and Abraham, I completely agree. What she wore on Jamaica was like something she hurriedly got second-handed at the Salvation Army, horrible. She was so classy and nice on Ellen, he hair was beautiful, her outfit was great. Jamaica's weather is tropical, so she had a great opportunity at wearing nice outfits. I'm starting to believe that she is the one picking her own those things she wears. How can she not know those outfits are hideous? The flat hair is also starting to get old. G.G., it also baffles me that Mariah has been in business for 25 years, and yet any amateur drag-queen could lip-synch her songs better than her without spinning like a propeller. I hope she comes prepared to Vegas. As soon as I heard her say she wanted the show to focus on her voice, I got worried. Vegas is the perfect place to get a full blown production. Vegas is about that, and people go there for the extravaganza. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 3:40)
Vocals (49,524)
by Giselle #1 Mariah Critic from USA
Her vocals though were good though I must admit. It's just the whole package needs major work. The outfits, stage presence, background dancers, For a veteran like Mariah, she sure does use a church fashion show budget. Oh Mimi, please you still got time. Hire the best person to help with your residency. Hire a big time designer to design costumes, you always look amazing when you wear Tom Ford. Maybe try Bob who designed for Cher. Don't hire Rachel or Debbie, get the best and work on your stage presence and learn some dance moves atleast how to move. Hire some of the drag queens from Rupaul's show and let them teach you how to lip sync. People won't be mad at you doing it, if it's done right and you're not turning around in a circle (what are you doing?) lol. Atleast dance when you are, so you can have a legit excuse to do it. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 1:59)
Concert / Vegas / Adam (49,523)
by Giselle #1 Mariah Critic from USA
I didn't like her Jazz and Blues concert. Her performances are becoming a mess, every time she sings now, it's always a problem with her earpiece. You would think they would have been on top of that by now. Enough with the tacky clothes already. I just don't see how Mariah expects to sell at Vegas, the first show tickets aren't even sold out. You still can get tickets for the first few rows. I also shout out Adam, I was thinking that too. Why she decided to do this concert who has the worst LGBT rights? There was a gay young man there who not to long ago was killed by a mob at a party and he was only 17. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 1:47)

Re: Adam / MC insensitive to gay folks (49,521)
by Ardis Logic from Earth
I seriously don't think that Mariah did this show to hurt anyone in the gay community. I honestly think she just wanted to get away and have fun in Jamaica. After seeing her performance I think she was just messing around, not taking this serious at all. Just having fun and maybe getting a little buzzed or tipsy. She really deserves to have fun and let her hair down, but this was maybe not the best way to do it in front of everyone. It may have seemed like a small audience but with YouTube these days millions can watch. Not sure what MC is thinking but I'm pretty sure Vegas means business, and hopefully she will be the amazing woman that we all know she can be. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 1:27)
Fantasy (49,520)
by Will from England
She must be counting her lucky stars, that more people aren't picking up on that Fantasy video yet. Could you imagine what could happen to her if that video got the coverage her Rockefeller performance did? She can kiss any chances of getting proper respect in the industry goodbye. Vegas residency? I can see the headlines now "Mariah Carey fails to sell out Caesar's Palace" or "Number of refunds for Mariah Carey residency rise". Strong comeback for next album? Not a chance. I don't know if there were major technical errors, but at this stage of the game, and for somebody who has had 25 years in this industry, there should not be any. Or at least anything as disastrous as that. Does she even turn up for rehearsals such as this anymore? Mariah needs somebody, who will take no nonsense and get her to listen on what to do next. The diva image has been played out since TEOM (which is where this whole thing started), and don't get me started on what she wore on stage. That white number was the only good thing she wore, along with the Meteorite dress she wore months ago. She wanted to wear a gown on Ellen, yet she looked 100x better in that blue number and everyone liked it. She needs to learn to listen to other people more, and realize that even though she may have had 25 years, other people may have better opinions/ideas on what to do. Please, let there never be another "Fantasy" performance like that ever again. Or the ABMB performance for that matter. Just no. Vent over. (Sunday 1 February 2015; 1:26)
