Mariah's momentum (49,435)
by Carol from Spain
| |
|
|
Mariah didn't lose focus, she just shifted her priorities to her kids and husband - a husband that apparently didn't do the same thing. I'm over Nick and I think he's just a fame catcher that likes to live the LA life, meaning he likes to get as many women as he can in his bed so he can brag about it. Mariah faced this marriage with her head up and I strongly suspect she dealt with so much bs from Nick because, at heart, he is a child. After everything she went through last year, I think MC will re-group and come back on top. Either way, I believe Mariah released an amazing album and she has nothing to be ashamed. A number 3 is nothing to be embarassed about at all.

I don't like the song. All the respect to them, but too much autotune surrounding the sample and the whole song is over produced. My opinion.

Focusing on music (49,433)
by Marissa from USA
| |
|
|
I agree that Mariah's motivation was drastically decreased since she got married and had kids. The reason Mariah was so distracted was that for once she was actually head over heels in love. Regardless of the fact that she had transitioned out of her prolific music-making during their relationship, I'm glad that she had that happiness while it lasted. I think it's selfish if we come up with a campaign for Mariah to stay single indefinitely because we think that's the only way she'll focus. Mariah's focus is within her control. Nick didn't perform any Jedi mind tricks to make her get off track. Unless she plans on retiring, she has to learn how to focus despite having kids or a man. She shouldn't have to choose between love or making music. She should be able to have it all, like Beyonce for example.

One thing we all know and probably what we love about Mariah is that she loves fame and loves to be cheered and photographed. Why wouldn't she? She's incredible. So I don't thinks that's something she will ever let go. Even when her babies were born she kept in the limelight. Forever may she shine.

I agree with everything except the contract. Mariah Carey, as we all know, signed a $21 million for 3 album deal back in 2002 with an option for $7-$10 million for a 4th album. What is little known is a official press release posted on The New York Times back in 2008 stating that Mariah Carey extended her contract for 3 more albums. I was surprised that I could only find it on a couple of websites. If you look it it up today, it is still there to be seen.

Her music has never let me down and I love every one of her albums. The reason I hold TEOM in high regard is because the marketing was on point. She looked fantastic, seemed happy, and was everywhere. She looked great during E=MC2, and the album was also fantastic, but we hardly saw her. I didn't mind the lack of exposure/promotion if she was happy and enjoying life but if she was alone and depressed for a large part of that time, that annoys me. Memoirs is when it really started going down hill. Compare this interview to any from the TEOM era. Vocal fry and she's talking so slow. She seems depressed or medicated. I know she had a miscarriage, that could have been it, but the general public doesn't know that and they're going, "WTF?" I remember reading message boards during MOAIA era and people were going at her hard. MIAMTEC: the elusive era. She had a good excuse and I'm just thankful she released it. But now I'm hoping for a comeback.

I think that's why she's doing the LV residency because she knows there's no money in album sales right now. I'm guessing the label is for marketing and to get her seen, heard, and back on top. Big record companies know how to do that type of stuff and have relationships with the right people. All of the biggest artists are signed to Sony. I think now we finally have a chance to beat The Beatles record for the most number 1 singles. After her contract is over (and she's on top again), she can go independent. By then it won't matter if she sells a lot because she'll have been at the pinnacle three times already. At that point it will probably be better if she only sells 50,000 (but makes more money) because by that time her kids will be older and she may want to live a normal life. Still writing and recording of course, writing her memoirs, etc. but without the fame. (I see her living in Connecticut for some reason, but maybe she's a New Yorker for life.) Side note: people have been talking about, and hoping MC would do a Vegas residency, since Celine started hers. It's a no-brainer, I'm sure they've offered her several times but the timing hasn't been right until now.

5H lyrics to "Like Mariah" (49,426)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
|
|
Fifth Harmony feat. Tyga
Love it when you call me baby When you're lighting up my phone Makes me want you like I'm crazy I'm running home, I'm running home Just to hear your heart beat You're so sweet like honeycomb Got to have you near me You're the best I've ever known
[Bridge] You make me get up, get up like this is my song I'ma get up, get up, yeah, yeah You got me humming, humming, to the beat of the drum To the rhythm rhythm, yeah, yeah
[Chorus] You're loving takes me higher, you set my heart on fire When you touch by body got me signing like Mariah There is no denying, your kisses keep me flying When you touch by body got me signing like Mariah Singing like Mariah [Verse 2:] Your name is written on my lips, you're the only one for me Every single litlle kiss, is like a dream, is like a dream I don't need even make a whish, cause all I want is you When you do it like this, I just lose my cool
[Bridge & Chorus]
[Verse 3: Tyga] Uh, T-Raw I'm fire If you're looking for that fly love, I'm your number one supplier Wanna try you buy it You wanna ride with the hottest in the city, se your heart on fire Yeah I do it it, I do it, do it, ain't nothin' to it If you with it, I know she with it, so come and do it Got that pretty, that pretty pretty You're so [?] like Aaliyah, Mariah Carey, you stay winning Top down ridin', I'm big Poppa She love when I fly it, Lambo pilot Hop inside it, sit on my lap, angel body I'm a King need a Goddess, gotta love it
[Chorus]
The pitch is obviously higher because it's ripped but I already like it. A lot even. Ally, Camila, Dinah, Lauren and Normani (whistles) all delivered vocally. Bo$$ got them an audience with Michelle Obama, it's only right they get to meet Mariah and perform for her too. I love how my faves each other without me ever lifting a finger. When you touch my body, got me singing like Mariah.

Che / Little boy (49,423)

Are you out of your mind, sitting here defending this clown? Eminem who? Yes, this is the real clown now. I'm sorry, but I was supportive of this ridiculous union when I remained quiet about it. I said nothing and let it play out. I seen they were having children and it looked like it was going to last, so I stopped giving him the stink eye. What saddens me, is that you posted that comment and it was almost like you were rubbing his sad existence in MC's life, in our faces. Have you even listened to the songs "Cry" and "Camouflage"? Doesn't sound like it. Those are the two most personal songs she's written in a very long time, and we know exactly who they're about. My heart bled for her when I finally realized what all of this was about, so I know exactly where my loyalty lies. We all know this chump will be in her life, because of the kids, and that's as far as the train should go. I can see right through his fake support, he's not fooling me. How long have you been a fan of his? How long have you been a fan of hers? Is this Nick's father? We know he's just another piece of trash, in this mix. The sad part is, she can't really talk about it. She's not walking away from this with nothing. She has two kids, so how would it look to her kids, if she went out there bashing him. So, he can run around and look all good showing his "support", mentioning her name, while he's banging that street trash, and probably driving her crazy, at the same time. There's no reason to stick up for him anymore, Che. It's time to let him go, okay? Shelly brought up some good points about divorce, so somebody knows the deal there. Baby brought up a couple good points as well. It's bad enough he was a fool, but he was always raping her career with his stupidity. He is doing her absolutely no favors being in her life, and he never has. So, please don't come at me for defending her. This should have been a natural response for us all, but apparently not. Sorry for my rants, I'm tired and rambling, lol. Peace out.

A while back I made a post on how I thought MC should do a bunch of songs on live shows to test out new material. Back in the 80's Tommy had her singing in clubs to test out the material to see what the most promising would be. She was a newbie back then. Now, she's the Mariah Carey and MC gets paid to test out new material in a Colosseum of +4,000 tourists a night. Of course, what the hell was I thinking? I guess the reason Mariah never tested out any new songs on tour was due to the bronchitis. That makes sense. I can't wait to hear your Jamaican music MC, are you going to sing Cruise Control? For the love of God, would someone please give Nick a grill made out of magnets to keep his trap shut? Just for a couple of months? You also encouraged her to do AI, and look how well that turned out for her. There could be a reason she didn't jump for another one of your brain farts. You are aware the woman made half a billion without your advice, right?

Industry tidbits (49,421)
by nikki from usa

I was watching an interview with Ashanti and she was talking about how much the industry has changed since the early 2000's to present day. Back in the day the artists didn't need to do half the work they need to do now to stay seen or stay relevant. She went on to say she had as many as 5 labels trying to snatch her up but only offered her 360 degree deals for options. That's why she decided to go independent. Ashanti continues to explain that as an indie artist she actually makes more money selling 20,000 copies of an album than she would've been able to make under a major label selling 100,000. The labels are now taking such a huge percentage there's little left. Just think about 2002 when MC first signed to Def Jam for 4-5 albums and already had her first one ready. I doubt they thought it would take her over a decade to complete the deal. 4 million back then was decent pay, but now it's astronomical. If the artist landscape is this bad than it's a good thing MC's doing a residency. I'm now hoping MC is either thinking of opening her own label or simply talking to LA Reid as a consultant. Social media and self promotion on TV and radio has the most impact these days. Record stores are gone, commercials are too expensive, but you can actually make money from music videos thanks to Vevo. She's a household name and knows the industry, she might as well own it.

Baby and Shelly (49,420)
by Jon from Netherlands

Everybody talks about how great Mariah was during TEOM but I disagree. Image wise she never looked better than E=MC2 and I loved that album (only Mariah to have TMB and IWYW on the same album). It had great potential. When did it start going bad? Exacly. So I agree with you Baby, 6 (kind of) lost years. She had the momentum of TEOM and of TMB and though BB didn't do as expected she could have still done great with that album but her mind started losing focus. From then on we went from a Mariah that released an album every two years (average of the 2000's) to Mariah doing almost nothing. It's true there were the twins and other situations but I feel like without him her career would be better. She was very happy while they were together and so maybe it was worth it. Shelly I don't know if Mariah has been single that many times. I think not. Before Nick she was, as far as I know, in a very private relationship for at least 4 years. I think it's not so much the relationship that makes her lose focus but Nick in particular. Btw, to clarify my YDWWTD post: I love the song Beautiful (second most played song on my iPod). I love the duet and Miguel is great.

And the smearing of Mariah by Nick continues (49,419)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End

Thirsty's campaigning against Mariah like it's 2016. Anyone who doesn't admit to it can go kick rocks and play in traffic. Nick Cannon is a narcissistic phony set out to ruin Mariah Carey. He's Tommy Mottola 1.3. It makes me sick to think how Mariah is stuck with him untill the day he dies. All these stories "alleging" negatives on MC always have Nick Cannon painted as Prince Charming even when he has zero to do with whatever fairytale horror they are telling the kids these days. More than another #1 hit, Mariah needs to lose the miss, known as Thirsty, ASAP. His connection to her has jinxed her successes for the past 6 years because he was always inserting himself into her professional life and finding ways to not be around when she really needed him. No wonder she felt pressured to let him direct all those videos. I mean, how do you end up busier after you get married and have kids than before? Many of you guys are always talking about all the things Mariah should do to get back on track (image wise and otherwise) when the elephant in the room, the huge boulder weighing our girl down, is Nick Cannon.

I really do hope Mariah teams up with really good creative team. It's a Vegas show. Everybody will be recording it and sharing it on social media. She needs to pump it up more unless she tones down and be vocally fit 100% without her backing tracks. I love her and I wish her show would live up to the legacy she owns.

Mariah rereleased wish (49,409)

Holly rawness Mariah's unedited style has stirred me. "I love it even more now," said like Olaf. Stupid joke but worth it, I must say it has been a while since I've had a chill from her. The Tattoo Club mini concert would be a great gem for lambs for MC25 just saying as a DVD bonus feature for the "The First Vision". I can see why "Someday" was removed commercially back then but after 25 years it's okay let it go. MTV Unplugged; after years of arguing that live is always better, her show in it's entirety my wish is for Sony/Columbia of who ever the hell they are now I can't keep track, go Nirvana and release the entire show screw ups and all.
