Difference in Mariah writing about Nick and Nick writing about Mariah (49,165)
by Darryle from USA
| |
|
|
I don't think Mariah writing about Nick is the same as Nick writing about Mariah. Writing and singing songs is Mariah's job. Nick didn't have any response to songs like Angles Cry and It's A Wrap. Or even a song like #Beautiful, that's positive. The only reason Nick is saying anything is because he knows Mariah won't speak out so it's his word against Mariah's silence. Also the songs on MIAMTEC weren't blatantly about Nick. With this album Mariah was writing about the turmoil her marriage was experiencing. Mariah has written songs about Nick before, like the previous ones I just mentioned but she wasn't putting him on blast for it she was just writing down what she felt. Nick knew what he was getting into when he married a songwriter.

To me, the difference is that Mariah's songs on MIAMTEC showed her sadness over the situation. The songs were heartfelt (no I don't think Thirsty was about Nick, I think Camouflage and maybe Cry were about him). Nick's song is making light of the divorce like it's just a joke to him. That's why to me I find it disrespectful. And I was always someone who was pro-nick after they got married because of how happy Mariah was, so I'm not biased against him.

B / Nick (49,163)

B, exactly my point. I don't know why we keep bringing Nick's name into 2015, when clearly Mariah high-noted his ass into 2014 forever. So, he should stay there, in the past, while Mariah and her lambs keep on moving on. He's allowed to babysit sometimes though. Nick could be a good DJ, and an average host, but a musician, he is clearly not, nor will he ever be. I let my grandmother listen to one of his goofy songs from "White People Party Music" on late November 2014, and she didn't make it into 2015. Now I'll have to live with that for the rest of my life. 20 seconds into the song, she said: "I can't, my head" in Spanish, gave me the eye of being tortured, and the rest is history. Guys don't tell anybody, my father doesn't know.

Because Mariah has never, to my knowledge, ever referenced anyone by name in a bad way in her songs. She alludes about whom she may be talking about or what she is feeling or the actual situation, but never outright. For me, that's why it is more ok for her to do. She isn't using her art to take down people by name. She doesn't use it to take cheap shots at someone. When the album first came out, we were all wondering "Is she talking about Nick?", "What is she talking about in this line?". When she does reference someone by name, it is always in a positive light. At the end of the day, she knows whom she is talking about in her songs, whilst we're all left playing the guessing game. And to be perfectly fair to her, when the album came out, we had no idea that things had gone so wrong behind the scenes. Whether Nick heard the album prior to it being released, I don't know, but I doubt he was blindsided by some of the songs on there. Whilst this, this came out of nowhere.

Monark / she doesn't wanna (49,159)
by Edward from USA

Monark, I definitely echo your sentiment. As much as most lambs love hating on Nick, fair game is fair game. Mariah lyrically shredded him to pieces punch after punch on MIAMTEC. Now that "blank checks" turned into "blank texts", there's no diss at all. And besides, who is actually listening to any "music" Nick puts out, really? I think that on 2014 Mariah was singing to him: "Too far apart to bridge the distance But something keeps us hanging on and on Pretending not to know the difference Denying what we had is gone Every moment we're together It's just breaking me down I know we swore it was forever But it hurts too much to stay around" She didn't wanna cry, so she dropped his ass, she's happy now, moving on, new year, new adventures. She'll be just fine.

Nick's song (49,158)
by Monark from Australia
| |
|
|
I think those who are up in arms about Nick's song lyrics need to just settle down. Have you not heard Cry? "Guess it's selfish of me to just expect that I'm entitled to have you." To my mind this is a direct reference to her weaving their story into her album and music. And in a sense it is selfish. Art imitates life, but why is this only ok for Mariah to do? I understand you might make a comment about whether his reference is tasteful. But, at the end of the day, we don't know whether Mariah has outright said to Nick that "you don't know what to do' or that he's thirsty or any of those things. If we accept that Mariah's life (and her relationship) will be reflected through her art, it is extremely irrational to expect that Nick is not allowed to do the same.

Nick has balls to go after Mariah like that. He doesn't know anything about her, apparently. Mariah can drag someone while staying classy. No doubt if she wants to, this will be excellent new writing material. Be warned, she has always called the shots.

Lol, thanks Marcus from Brazil. You know Mariah is straight boss. She has kept her cool and not said anything about her marriage ending with Nick. I couldn't do it. I would of pounced on that fool.

Mariah and Vegas (49,153)
by Jon from Netherlands
| |

A lot of artists are doing talent shows or residencies for one reason only: it's more profitable than releasing an album. The 90's were the peak of the music industry with a lot of money pouring in. That is long gone and the industry has been slowly declining. None of this is new. The fact that Mariah has done AI and now Vegas is different though. It's not just any artist. It's the one that reigned over the 90's and was extremely prolific with an average of one album per year. The fact she goes for something like AI or Vegas (even though other reasons may apply) instead of being in the studio is a testament to the end of that era and the final closing of that chapter. This, of course, considering only the financial perspective. I also believe, as L.H said, that it's done for the kids and taking into account a possible custody battle. At the end of the day Mariah might be outsmarting everybody and getting her priorities right and reaching her goals. I think I admire her more than ever now. She's a rare type of person: a fighter that isn't vicious. It's not about walking over others, it's about making it happen for herself and at this point it's all about the kids, the music and the fans (I'm now more convinced than ever she did the tour to be with the fans).

Don't explain (49,152)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |

If I were Mariah I would release an EP with her rendition of Billie Holiday Don't Explain and other jazz/blue songs that represent her pain and her possible anger towards that clown. If Nick thinks he can make a quick buck out of Mariah why can't she? I think jazz can do wonders for Mariah without her straining so much and also the genre suits these kind of situations.

MB was the first album of Mariah's I ever heard in its entirety too. It was my older sister who borrowed it from her friend when I was in fifth or sixth grade. I used to sneak and play it when she wasn't home, singing along and learning all the lyrics. Before I knew it, I was a Mariah fan. When I later heard Fantasy (the volume was turned down really low) for the first time in a very noisy woodshop class in Jr High and could distinguish Mariah's tone through all the melee, I knew I was a lamb, even if the term wasn't yet in vogue. Daydream would be the very first cd I ever bought in my life with my own money. It's still in my top 3 MC albums OAT. I tell you though, time sure does fly. I mean, can you believe how fresh Fantasy still sounds?

Mr. Nick Cannon. You are eternally 2. 2 refers to how many faces you have, at least. 2 refers to "my 2 cents", which you are not even worth. 2 refers to You Don't Belong Together. 2 refers to Thirsty. 2 refers to "we don't have to like you unwillingly anymore". 2 refers to "MC2", which means MC is the queen and you're just a square that's written so small, no one cares for you. 2 stands for father and son. That's an even smaller square than yours. Did his book sell 1 more copy? Wow. Personal best. Too late. You disgust me.

Mariah, the classy one (49,147)
by Marcus from Brazil
| |

If these rumors are true, for now they have changed the lyrics from "blanks checks" to "blank texts", I don't think Mariah should invest her time, effort and lyrics in a man like Nick. It's just not worthy. It is not like Nick is Eminem and he is going to have a smash hit from a wack ass song. The man can't write a rhyme for all is worth. Mariah, for the sake of her two precious babies, and for future reference, shouldn't address him at all. Class speaks volumes, while she's been classy, he's been looked at as a childish gold digger clown.

by Ardis Logic from Earth

This guy is scum. He "love bombed" MC and told her exactly what she wanted to hear to persuade her and use her. Seems like that was the plan all along. If you truly love someone you don't treat them like that. Anyway the best thing is for MC to hopefully learn something from this whole experience and try to forgive not only him but more importantly herself. I'm sure that will take time. She can over come this. She is a very strong woman.

Sloppy Nick, Ellen and Mariah's big opportunity (49,145)
by M from UK
| |
|
|
I remember first hearing that Mariah Carey had married Nick Cannon. My reaction like the rest of the world was WTF. Since then I mellowed as I saw Mariah was in love. She didn't marry him for power or money but for pure love. Personally I felt as though his reputation and sloppy behavior has dampened her legacy in a big way but I didn't mind because they had 2 beautiful kids out of the situation. The way he is treating her now however is disgusting. It makes me feel as though I was right to react the way I did from the beginning. With Mariah's new plans and her upcoming appearance on Ellen, this is Mariah's big opportunity to show how truly smart, powerful and strong she has always been. I know that she wouldn't book a prime time TV appearance unless she felt her best. And I still think she only did one mini showing on Letterman and no other prime time slot last year because she was going through personal difficulty behind closed doors. She is still the no 1 female artist in the game and her showcasing her overwhelming beauty, wit and talent will help recover some of the damage Nick has caused.

How sad (49,144)
by May from Denmark
| |

Poor Mariah. The worst is stupid Nick Cannon will come out to the press when asked and he is going to reply something ridiculous as "I was just playing with what the media is saying about us, I have much love for Mariah", so he can wash his hands once more. Every time he does the same thing, but he doesn't care that it is Mariah who is taking the blows. He thinks he is funny, he is not. Who believes his excuses for being an a*sh*le anymore?

Side Effects part 2 (49,143)
by Lara from Middle East
| |
|
|
With all these negativity around Mariah, I can't wait for her to come out with lyrics like "Side effects" and " I wish you well". I hope that she'll be less elusive on the Ellen show, I would like to have her side of the story even though it's none of our business, but because the silence is playing against her. As for the Vegas residency, I think this is a step done for her children, especially if a trial for custody is going on, she will be the one with stable home (and income lol). Hope the shows will turn out great.

To be honest I've come to expect this from Nick. He's nothing but an a**hole. I think it's disgusting that he could even talk about Mariah in that way. Have some respect for Mariah as your ex wife and as the mother of your children. Imagine what it'll look like to dem babies when they're 16 and find out daddy bragged about getting spousal support from mommy. My heart goes out to Mariah and I just hope she can find love again this time with someone who's feelings are mutual.

We all know Mariah had a tough upbringing. It affected her in ways we can't even begin to imagine ("I gravitated towards a patriarch, so young, predictably"). The terrible and sad irony of her marriage ending is that two young, three-year-olds are now likely to be raised single-handedly by their singer mother. Just as she had been.
