Big Boy (48,803)
by JAXGH from United States
| |
|
|
Sad to say but Big Boy is literally the reason why Mariah and Nick split. It even came from Nick's mouth. "If our marriage don't work out, it is solely your fault," which is what exactly happened. He somehow got Nick to answer an extremely private question. "Name 5 that will watch this and say oh he's not lying." And being the open person he is, he answered. And he definitely wasn't thinking straight. His background thoughts were "name 5 women everyone knows you dated" thus why he said "Hmmm what's another one that's just easy and people already know" and disregarded that he had smashed these women, unknowingly putting his wife and kids to shame. This is the reason I hate Big Boy and his interviews. He's disgusting, full of trickery and literally give 0 damn about the family of the person he's interviewing. As for Nick, everyone makes mistakes. Technically he did just name women he dated but he forgot for a moment that the "smashing" part comes with it and how much it will damage Mariah. Honestly turned out to be the worst mistake of his life.

Next album (48,802)
by Abraham from USA

I agree with Marissa. I'd been wanting Mariah to do some jazz for awhile now. But I'd like her to release another mainstream album. Another "TEOM". I'd like another singing from the soul song like "Mine again". I'm sure whatever she releases will be good. She knows she needs to really bring it. And when she does, she's going to slay. And I can't wait. I'd say it's time for a good, successful era.

Album anticipations / dream collabo (48,801)
by Marissa from USA

I agree Cgee54, I'm ready for Mariah to explore more niche genres as well. Ideally, I would like Mariah to make one more mainstream album for the 25th anniversary to remind the world why she's the songbird supreme and snatch the wigs of those who talked about her like a dog, like Wendy Williams. (I know I'm being unrealistic here because MC's probably too exhausted from marital issues, international touring and the Christmas shows to even want to get in the studio any time soon, but a girl can dream.) Mariah always sounds wonderful when she sings jazz and it seems to be easier for her to sing than a lot of her mainstream hits, so that would be a great choice. I would love to hear gospel and neo-soul from her as well. Whatever genre she sings next, I hope I hear a lot of her lower register a la Melt Away. I've always thought her lower register was just as beautiful as her upper. Also, I must (caps) hear a soulful/jazzy collaboration with MC and D'Angelo in my lifetime.

Is it time for Mariah to sing "the blues"? (48,799)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
|
|
I think now is the time for Mariah to record and release a blue/jazz album full of standards and perhaps a song or two that she could write for the album. I think she's going through a lot and I think a jazz album could be a nice way to cope with the hurt and heal. She could channel Billie Holiday with a mix of Sarah Vaughan, it would her version of "Lady sings the blues", all the songs will depict a story like her latest album. She can relieve the classical era of jazz with some nice outfits that mimics the era fashion. There's so much potential for this concept if she just forget about mainstream music. Any thought?

Reflecting on 2014 (48,798)
by Jon from Netherlands

Highlights: The concerts. There were a lot of good performances and MC really showed love for the fans in some of them. She also spread a lot of joy in her Christmas concerts. Her ability to weather the storm was also admirable and a reason to be proud of her and to see how different she is from others that are/were on the spotlight. Album reviews. Not one of my favourite albums but it does have a few amazing songs and is nice to see the critics on Mariah's side. Dissapointing: Choosing Eternal as the first single. Most of us feel like it is one of the worst songs on the album and totally not radio friendly. The rest of the promotion of the album doesnt bother me as I understand she had other things in mind. Album title? Management. Choosing a close friend and collaborator as manager was a bad idea. Either go alone or go with a pro. Starting the tour so emotional. It's understandable and we are all human but the next stop in Tokyo might not be so crowded. Musical moments: The now discovered uncut version of AIWFCIY is amazing as is the rendition of Lullaby Of Birdland. Annoying: Nick. He went from cute goofy guy to annoying brat. Not saying Mariah is perfect but she was there when he was sick, even wrote a song for him but this dude seems to only care about his career. I don't know him personally of course but he's certainly not as classy as he wants people to believe.

Angel Adrian / the collection (48,797)
by Marcus from Brazil

Angel Adrian, Eric stopped updating the discography ever since singles went all digital. It was fun having different versions from different countries and stuff like that, but now it is not that fun anymore. Anybody can get anything digitally nowadays. Buying albums is not necessarily consider collecting.

As a lamb, 2014 (the earlier half in particular) with the album pushbacks, Jermaine Dupri sagas, unflattering vocals and photos being leaked and media slayings of MC was extremely rough. I hope I never (caps) see a year like 2014 again in MC history. I can't sugarcoat it. I'm not even talking about numbers. Yes she sold out shows, got her Christmas spectacular, AIWFCIY got Vevo certified, etc. but sometimes even when the results turn out okay you still wouldn't want to go through the process again and that's how I feel about 2014. Besides the album, this is a year that I wouldn't mind forgetting, but I'm trying to stay hopeful for 2015 aka the 25th anniversary. I hope something festive and unforgettable is in the works.

Mariah's "The Wind" (48,794)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
Today, I was at Starbucks. They were playing jazz music. I didn't recognize the song but it had a break of just piano. It reminded me of "The Wind". Then I wondered about Mariah's song. I only knew Mariah wrote the lyrics to Russ Freeman's instrumental "The Wind". I had never heard a recording of the original "The Wind". Today, I did my research and I saw online more info on it. I've always wondered and now I know. I went to YouTube and heard Chet Baker's version who performed it in the '50/'60s. "The Wind" also had original lyrics by Jerry Gladstone.

I Stay In Love clip, enwar00 (48,792)
by May from Denmark

I love that video. It's one of my favorites on a "safe playlist" I made for my little daughter haha. What I liked about the video when it came out was that it somehow reminded me to Mariah in the "Breakdown" video. She looks fab with the feathers and in that burlesque kind of theme and I liked that the video had a small storyline. I enjoy it when her videos show a bit of script, as opposed to the very static "You are mine" which highly disappointed me, the only parts I liked were the bits of Mariah in the water as a mermaid (to my surprise those were the parts that she directed). I would love to see Mariah as a director again for a whole video, she co-directed some but I would love to see one fully from her own mind and perspective. I recall a nice interview about her experience directing "Fantasy" and up to this day is one of my fav videos. "I stay in love" was beautiful, her videos in that time were nicely produced.

Is there anyone else that actually likes this video? The reason I ask is because for some reason I feel like I remember it getting a lot of hate, and when it just came on tv I remembered that I like it as well as the song. Love the desert scenes and she looks really good too. The only thing I'm like eh to is the lethargic dancing. Like the choreographer didn't show up. But overall thought I'd give it some love.

Merry Christmas (48,790)

Merry Christmas, lambily. We are the best fans in the world. Mariah Carey is a living legend and I'm eternally grateful that she's shared her visions of love with us for twenty four years. I'm a lamb for life, my last name is Lamb-ert. I hope Mariah releases something to celebrate her twenty-fifth year in the industry plus look what happened in 95 and 05.

B and Mariah's theory of relatability (48,786)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
|
|
I completely echo your sentiment B. It's the media and those with a vested interest in her getting bad press that arbitrarily change their portrayal of Mariah (or don't, depending on your perspective). Mariah has stayed intrinsically the same at her core for all these years. Even though Mariah is as scandal free as they come with no real vices and with the most family like entourage I can think of considering her stature it's like the media and general public are dead set on projecting an image of her being the total opposite of who and what she is in real life. When I first heard of Sandra Bernhard's defence of Mariah act I was surprised but now I think it illustrates perfectly just how easy Mariah is to like once you get to know her. Maybe I'm reading to much into Sandra's "Mimi's" but to me only someone who has been won over personally by Mariah would be as effusive with her nickname. Maybe they actually became friends against all odds? So the moral of the story is: Mariah doesn't need to change anything because once most people get to know her in, real life or study, they turn into docile lambs. Those of us on whom she's made a positive impact on will always come to her defence. Merry Christmas MCA.

"Just sing from your heart the entire time and your notes will continue to shine regardless of the dirt that gets splattered around you." I love that. Mariah knows what she's doing, she doesn't need my help. I forgot for a moment she's been doing this for 25 years and I've been doing it for 0 years. I've been watching the Christmas performances and I love what she's projecting. I won't be on here for a while but I wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope to see you all next year.

I wanted to share this clip because M looks fantabulously gorgeous, but notice the young man next to her mom Patricia. He resembles Mariah so much, I wonder if he's her nephew Michael, Alison's second son. I hope she can make up with her sister one day.
