Conclusion (47,285)

After the past few days of this whole unfortunate incident on this message board, I just want to clarify something before I can move on to more positive areas once again. Firstly, to anyone in their mind thinking I should no longer be a fan, please read through all my posts before the past few days and see just how full of positivity and defence of Mariah they are. Also, I have been coming to this board since I was 13; I'm now 25. I have all MCs albums on CD and iTunes (and a good deal on vinyl) and also all her concert DVDs, VHS etc. Also two frames pictures of her on my wall. Secondly, I come to this board as a safe place as a fan where I can discuss my feelings regarding Mariah and her voice, artistry, current affairs etc. I come here to voice concerns as well as praise for Mariah. I would never make any negative comment on any other Internet forum or real life, and I am proud to tell people that I am a huge Mariah fan, even when facing ridicule (and believe me - saying you're a Mariah fan in the UK gets you nothing but stick). My harsher messages were more a reaction to the frankly hideous responses some people here received which shocked me. I come here to discuss with other fans and also to hear and give opinion. I just wanted to make it clear that I am and always will be a massive fan of Mariah's, her status as my idol will never go and I will never abandon her even if I criticise. I am very much looking forward to moving on to more positive times.

I still believe in Mariah (47,283)

I'll keep praying that God would heal Mariah's voice. I believe she still can amaze us all with her beautiful voice. Btw, I'd like to dedicate this video to those who are on the verge of giving up on Mariah. I hope it somewhat rekindles your faith in her.

I believe in Mariah (47,282)

I felt heartbroken when someone can be so bold as to say Mariah should stop singing. Don't you remember how, just one year ago, she blew us away with this performance? Having watched her recent performances in Tokyo, I couldn't help but wonder if she's been crying a lot lately.

Two questions (47,279)
by Abraham from USA
| |
|
|
My first question is, does anybody think since Mariah sang Billie Holiday at one of her shows, is she going to cover that song on her next album?Second question is, was Mariah really singing "Fantasy" live at the Yokohama area? It sounded really good. I watched the "Touch my body" clip and that was clearly live. Glad she's trying. I think she will get better as she does more shows. What does anybody think? What a difference from the "I'll be there" performance. She looked sad, out of it and disgusted, and in the "Fantasy" and "Touch my body" performances. She looked alive, energized and like she was having fun. Also, can we acknowledge just how gorgeous and amazing she looks. I'm really happy for her.

Wendy and Mariah have history (47,277)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
These two go way back and Mariah has no problem handling Wendy. From the 2001 interview where Mariah cusses out and hangs up on Wendy when insinuating she got implants (here) or the time they bonded in 2003 and Wendy advised Mariah that she was offered some cash to participate in a smear campaign against her and then shaded JLo (here) to Mariah catering to her with expensive take out and splashes (here). When Wendy premiered Touch My Body and gagged when she heard herself referenced in the song, she said over the radio that Mariah needs to come on her upcoming tv show for an interview. Wendy is still waiting on that interview, lol. If you have watched her show, she always shaded JLo and talked up Mariah in comparison time and time again. That is, until JLo went on her show. Now that she has been on her show, she is ragging on Mariah because she has yet to come on her show. But you know Mariah, none of these gossips from Perez Hilton to Wendy Williams will convince Mariah to cater to them just for one good segment/post. She doesn't operate that way and won't bend to these gossips anymore which is good because when it's the hip thing to talk negatively about you, they all turn on you for hits/ratings. Once Mariah comes on her show, because she will, when she is good and ready and has something to promote, Wendy will change her tune.

Give Mariah some credit, not medical advice (47,276)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End

I mean, do some of you really think she doesn't know what to do to get her voice in shape? Name another singer who has spoken more about humidifiers and their benefits, tea with honey, vocal warmups, drinking through straws to avoid germs, abstaining from alcoholic beverages because they dry out her voice, not smoking or being around smoke because of the damage it causes to the voice (aside from it being unhealthy in general), getting enough sleep and rest to recuperate physically, exercising, staying hydrated and going on vocal rest. I know most of that stuff because of Mariah. She has the respect and friendship of all of the other great singers in the world as well as her mother the opera singer as well as her loyal backup singers like Trey and Mary-Ann. Yet some of you were ready to put her to put her entire career in danger on a whim? Do you realize Julie Andrews lost her singing voice after her nodules surgery? But you want to recommend Mariah take the same gamble because of a couple bad notes? Some of you take critiquing too far.

Mariah's voice (47,275)
by Darryle from USA
| |
|
|
As far as the tour goes Mariah's voice has improved since the last show she made changes and adjustments and it worked the only place to go from there is up. I know some fans want Mariah to come out and address her voice but I bet it's incredibly hard for her to even think of that. Mariah's her own worst critic so imagine what's going through her mind when she rematches these videos. I think she's probably having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that her voice is gone and she can't just belt it out like she used too. Even in her voices current state I still think Mariah's one of the world's greatest singers.

Second coming, response (47,273)

My post was less about "live" vocals and more about witnessing a person who has been down and out for over a year finally seem to break free from it and show vitality and life in her performances that we haven't seen in a long time, which proves she is still fighting and gave me the reality check that I needed to understand that instead of giving the usual harsh critiques, I needed to pray for her. Sometimes we forget that these celebrates are human and we demand the most of them regardless of their personal circumstances. Now I'm not excusing not always giving your best, but after the past year and a half that she has been through, I don't think I would be very happy either, regardless of fame, talent, and wealth. Now if I got tricked that is one thing but delusional I am not. So if the We Belong Together ending note stopped abruptly instead of softly fading out or the big notes at the end of Always Be My Baby sounded more natural and riffed, instead of mp3 magnifique, then she did a good job of getting one over on me. Heck, even the whistles in Emotions sounded real, she was throwing her hair in her face but I thought she was just channeling Marilyn. Hey, if all you can pull out of my post is delusion instead of the part where I talk about a person's well being and how long it took before I get a glimmer of who they used to be and the fact this person really needs prayer, you might want to re-evaluate your views to what is really important in life.

A break / songs left out of the list (47,272)
by Elena from The Netherlands
| |
|
|
In the midst of the lamb-wars here, I just want to say I hope that no matter how you feel about MC right now you still want her to get better en definitely not retire. She is brilliant and her creativity is endless in her music. She probably has a million ideas and only 15 of them goes on a record at a time. I know I will want to hear all her studio albums as long as she'll be around to entertain us and touch our souls with her gift. That's not just her voice, but her whole artistry. The voice needs a big break with caretaking, that's all. On another note, it's very unusual for MC not to include her gospel tracks like Make it Happen or Fly Like A Bird, other than her not being able to sing them as she wants at this point, I can't find any other reason for her not to include them. They are so dear to her. Also YDKWTD is left out of the setlist, an absolute fan favorite. I really wonder how she puts the setlist together and her reasons for picking particularly these songs. I really thought Crybaby would win over Babydoll. Crybaby has brilliant lyrics.

Mariah third concert soon (47,270)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
Now that Mariah is in Seoul and soon presenting her third show, amidst all the hurricane of criticism this week, I think she should take one song off the set list and incorporate in its place "Can't take that away", it will send a good message across. Her last performance seemed to have a promising future, while having toned down some of the songs, she did a great effort that payed off nicely in some of the songs, sounding really great, I also loved the vibe she put in this last time, she was on fire, walking from across the whole stage. Those are the positive things I could see as of late, if she keeps it like this she might end up with a nice well put tour. Bringing back the dvd talk, I would actually like one from this show, mostly because she is singing songs that she doesn't often perform live or had never performed before, also it is missing a long time before the tour ends so there might be other nice surprises.

The reason she's touring (47,269)
by B from USA
| |
|

Mariah is not touring for money, she made $18 million from one season of Idol. She's touring to reconnect with her fans. She always turns to us when she's hurting or upset. She's a true professional. She took those harsh words and forged forward singing her best and I'm proud of her.

Not sure if that message was meant towards me or not, but either way I just wanted to clarify after reading my post again that I did not intend for my message to sound like Mariah's reason to tour was she needed the money. What I meant in that post and many others recently that I posted, was she may feel she needs to tour and be surrounded by her fans for personal reasons as I quote myself from a past message "therapeutic reasons" she may feel this is where she needs to be with all that is going on around her life right now. Nowhere did "I" personally say she was doing it for financial reasons. MC is fine in that department. If it came across that way it never was my intention. If you were not directing your post to me, then I still would like to clarify that.

Eric, thanks for all the years you've done this. It's been great and I've a lot of respect for the work and dedication you put into this opportunity for all of us. Thanks a lot. I don't remember the names of all the really decent people past and present, but Edward, Your posts are always, always spot on. thanks for the good reads and same goes to all like minded folk. The rest of you, peace. take care. Life is sweet, you know, it's not worth getting angry or aggressive about others, especially not the ones you don't agree with it. It'll save you crazy amounts of stress.

Webmaster, just a Q (47,265)
by Marcel from Montréal, Canada

I know we should be respectful expressing our points, but should be applied to all "lambs", "fans", etc, whether we are posting a - wrongly labeled - "pos" or "neg" comment. What bothers me is that before Andrew wrote the psychopaths and such post, I was feeling the same, you know, there are lot of "lambs" in here that are quite gross and rude to others while being "positive". There were people bashing Andrew with really rude comments; me myself got a message from someone who said I stole his name for God's sake. When you read people like that or those that say MC sounded better than ever or those saying Andrew is not a fan, you cannot help but wonder if they're unhappy, psychopaths, paranoids, talking "Mariah-ish" as you all love to, lets say "delusional" persons, you name it. So why did you jump on to make an statement after Andrew's post but did not before when he was getting all of the crap from sweet positive lambs? I know this is a MC board and it's supposed to be filled with "lovely positive messages", but problem is that the situation isn't any positive and the "negative" comments as you guys call them, are actually positive, because we are expressing a reality according to the negative moment we are witnessing so "negative on negative becomes positive". Just get a life guys and start seeing things objectively, [censored].

Did you guys see this video? I love it that she is being playful instead of standing in one place. She is moving around, dancing, flirting and what not. I love the little growling part where she yells "I will hunt you down". She looks much more confident. I hope the vocals keep getting better with each show. She can take notes from mistakes she is making and adjust them accordingly. Trust me, no one gets more frustrated with a bad vocal moment than Mariah herself. Her voice is her prized possession, her identity, and it would be silly of us to assume she isn't concerned. The question is why is she not doing something about it. Maybe there is a reason we don't know.

I just want to make clear I was just frustrated with what I saw before, and wanted to come here for some true fan support. For all that MC has done for us, gotten us all through at some point in our life. I know most of us say she was and is the soundtrack to our life. I can't think of anything in my life prior to 1990 that I can't relate to a Mariah song. When she calls the attention or bad press to herself, yeah I bring up constructive criticism. But this? This attacking somone over and over on a voice crack whatever, but appearance too? That is not justified and just plain mean and cold. So Shelly I hope it did not seem like it was directed at you, just my passion coming through and I thought about what you said and wanted to reach out to you and other real supportive lambs/fans on this board. Post a pic of her from Japan in the black trench coat on twitter to se those out instead of that no flattering pic that's viral on twitter. You can clearly see she has lost a lot of weight. She hasn't looked this good in a long time. She is going through a divorce and women are already knocked in self esteem during this period. She does not need it. That's all.

Shelly, I think you were the one that mentioned you looked at Mariah as almost an older sister at one point. I feel the exact same way and I do too, get very protective of MC like she is family. There are some really meanspirited things on Twitter right now and when I see them I feel very sad for Mariah. We know she goes on Twitter and there is a photo that someone posted and it's gone viral on Twitter and it's when she had more weight on. Now we know we have all been saying how fabulous MC has looked since she started her tour. That was the one thing I had to say was positive that she is not letting this mess get the best of her physically at least. I tried to post a recent pic of MC and say this was now. But if we all did that I would feel like we didn't let them drag her any more down on the mud. She looks good now, the least we can do is let those negative people know that. The comments and comparisons that are posting are beyond hurtful. Why do they feel the need to continuously try and hurt Mariah Carey? Why is it always her? This woman has been through enough, she has two beautiful children she is another to. I am tired of seeing these people, her weight, her voice, her mentality, her diva ways, her clothes. Mariah never can catch a break. Sorry for the tangent as MC would say, I have just had it.

Oh please, I can't believe some people have the audacity to say Mariah is doing this tour solely for the money. I guess the fans on the first few nights, do get the short end of the stick, but there are a lot of factors that come into that. One other thing, those fans who payed to see Mariah shouldn't be expecting so much from her, because lip-syncing is a norm and they know her voice isn't as good as it once was. Who are you to judge how much effort she put into the overall production, she could have slaved herself, who knows? So you deserve all the consequences (good or bad) for paying to see her. I refrain from having high expectations of her current singing ability, so that when she does do something spectacular live, all my expectations would be blown away. I find that way more exciting than constantly thinking she can do it, but end up not doing so and getting disappointed about it. I don't know the truth, but I'm gonna be more positive and say she's doing this tour for therapeutic reasons and most importantly for the fans, it's for the fans, we gotta do it for the fans, because we love the fans.

Mariah's voice is a gift from God. It's a once in a lifetime type of thing. Her voice is fragile, always has been. We put too much pressure on her to be perfect each and every time she opens her mouth. Why risk destroying her voice? I get it. I'll take the hit or miss voice over no voice any day.
