Why the silence? (50,233)
by Lara from Middle East
| |
|
|
No recent news, just gossip. No explanations, just performances going wrong. Most of the media attack would shut down if Mariah would go public and explain what s really happening. She s a human, she goes through bad times, why acting like everything is ok and like you're untouchable? It only makes it harder for her. I want her to come back but I have not seen any signs to prepare that.

Dembabies book (50,232)
by Luis from Spain
| |
|
|
I work at a publishing house in Spain and we wanted to buy translation rights for the book since in principle Mariah was supposed to be involved in the project. Unfortunately, there was no agreement since our offer coincided with their separation announcement and Nick is completely unknown here. Yes, Scholastic will publish more books but without Mariah. She has nothing to do with this and our feeling is that she was not interested at all.

I'm not absolutely sure but I think I remember there were going to be more books. I think it was going to be a series like The Berenstain Bears.

You're right, the song Butterfly is amazing. You can share your MC testimony too, if you feel up to it.

The book is out there Shelly and Nick did some marketing for it and some promotions around Christmas time but Mariah didn't. I don't think she got that much say in the book to be honest, it seems more like something Nick wanted to do and Mariah was ok with it. I have a child but I didn't buy the book, it's like a counting book, not really a story book but for the price I much rather buy an Emily Gravett book. Amazon UK doesn't even have reviews for the Dembabies book. But I feel some way like you, it's like he took advantage that Mariah is a Christmas icon and released a Christmas book with the kids. Surely the children will love it though, why not, it's them, children love to see themselves in stuff haha. But I agree with you, I haven't seen the kids around the Christmas promotion book neither up to these days. Supposedly Nick never really wanted them "out and about" for the world to see.

Grammar (50,228)
by Dove from USA
| |
|

What I was trying to say in my other post before I started rambling is that if anyone notices that I'm making the same grammar mistakes over and over, you can go ahead and point them out to me. Just be nice about it. Full disclosure: the flu shot didn't work this year; I was and am medicated. Andrew I misinterpreted your post the first time I read it.

Whoa (50,227)

I haven't been here in over a week and it seems all hell has broken loose. Oh Mariah. I enjoy you. Just like I wouldn't expect a 1990 Corolla to run like new, I don't expect a voice that's done 25 years of mileage to start on the first try either. Weird analogy, but it makes sense to me. Shelly, I don't know you, but I just gotta say, your message completely broke my heart. I don't know why, because I'm usually a tough guy (haha). We've all had a-ha moments in Target. I relate to it, because, without getting into a lot of drama, had I not heard the song "Butterfly" on the radio in 1997, I'm not sure I would be here today to be typing this. That's the power of MC.

It was probably one of the terms of their divorce that they can't use the kids to make money. The pictures posted on MC's IG and the Dembabies website raised money for her charity. He was planning on making money off of them with the children's books, maybe that's why MC included that as one of the terms of the divorce. I imagine he said, "If I can't make money off of them, neither can you." I really don't know, that's just me speculating.

Andrew thank you for the nice message. It's been over a year since we separated and I'm actually okay now. I probably wouldn't have brought it up if I was still in the midst of it. One day I just realized that I'm free. (I was at Target and it occurred to me that I didn't have to hurry.) I've been enjoying the current season ever since. I didn't even remember what a proposition was, I had to Google it. Honestly, the only time I ever write more than a paragraph is on this site. At my job everything is abbreviated or concise. The last time I wrote an essay was a long time ago when I was still in school. I went to a state school. I actually have bought books to improve my grammar and so that I can help my son with his homework when the time comes but I haven't read them yet. Last year was a tough year. I don't mind the grammar police, I like learning from my mistakes, but please be kind. Please don't point out obvious typos. Keep in mind I type these posts up quickly and from my phone, sometimes during breaks. I'm not sure if you were talking to Taylor or to me but I'm posting this anyway as a disclaimer.

Vocal inconsitiences (50,221)
by B from USA
| |
|
|
I agree Mariah's voice is inconsistent. I don't think it's from drinking or doing drugs but from not rehearsing. The vocal cords are like muscles, they need to be exercised and stretched and warmed up to work properly. She needs to retrain her voice because all eyes and ears will be on her for the opening night of her residency, especially after the Rockefeller and Jamaica Jazz debacles.

Luke and John John (50,220)
by Bill from the UK

Thanks for replying Luke, I remember KISS playing the Fantasy remix a lot a few years back, I think during their "KISStory" segment. John John, Heart is the one radio station I never listen to lol. I shall start as I'm sick of Smooth and Magic having a love affair with every other female singer except Mariah. I must hear Whitney, Aretha and Celine at least three times a day each on those stations. I don't know why it is, but Mariah just seems to sound wonderful on the radio. Better than the CD, not sure why that is. I think I posted it here when it happened, but I had to wait in all day for a delivery once and had Magic playing. I almost had a heart attack when Dreamlover came on. It sounded glorious.

Just a thought (50,219)
by Abraham from USA

I agree with the person who said that Mariah should include some celebrities in one of her videos. That would be great. She had some cool people in the "It's like that" and "We belong together" videos. Brian McKnight, Went Worthmiller is it? And Julia Robert's brother. She could feature people who are relevant or hot right now. Pitbull would cool, he's a fan and didn't he mention Mariah recently? I've always wanted Mariah to do another "It's like that" type video, where she's going to some special ball or party. And she arrives looking beautiful and has some celebrities or music artists in it waiting for her. Basically waiting for Mariah to make an entrance and start the party. Anyone agree?

This radio station always plays Mariah. At least twice a day. It varies on which era there play but she is heard on UK radio daily. PS. I can't wait to go to Vegas for Opening Night. I am nervous though. I'm hoping for a smooth ride, no complications.

Edward, Orkun and Shelly (50,217)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Edward and Orkun, I tip my cap, Sirs. I'm mostly over raging against the machine now, anyway. I think nearly all hope is lost but that's well documented. I'm really not fussed about people loathing me. I'm fussed about Mariah Carey's career, after 22 years of supporting it. And my integrity. At least, for the most part, the conversation really has leapt forward a little bit. Like Marissa, you make valiant points and I applaud you for doing so. You have a right to have Mariah respond to you, although I think Mariah's a little over talking to her fans anymore, however. Shelly, being cheated on is massively hurtful. But tell yourself you are awesome every day and smile and I promise it feels better. And Taylor, I just don't have the words, but when I need some I sure know where to come. My curiosity is satisfied, not clarified, for which I am grateful. And try not to end sentences with a preposition. I promise that feels better, too. Let's not get so worked up. Nothing really matters. Madonna sang it in her popular 1998 hit, "Nothing Really Matters". Must be true.

Hey Bill, I believe my work had it on Kiss when it was on one of their R'n'B episodes. They played "Heartbreaker" and "WBT", and then when I turned it over "It's Like That" was on but I can't remember what channel it was.

Hi Luke, what station(s) did you hear MC on? I hardly ever hear her on the radio here except for the occasional Hero and AIWFCIY during December. What songs were played? I remember a long time ago (about ten years) hearing Emotions randomly played, which wasn't even a big hit over here, and I loved the female DJ cutting in during the "giggle" at the end of the song saying "How on earth does she sing so high?" Lol.

My opinion (50,211)
by B from USA
| |
|
|
After critics questioned whether Carey would embark on a world tour to promote her material she explained that stage fright and the style of her songs made a tour very daunting. When I read comments and articles about Mariah's recent performances I think of the quote above. She's Mariah Carey. She is The Voice. I'm looking forward to her Las Vegas residency and the reissue of #1's. Her voice is fragile but when rested and rehearsed she can still slay.

Fresh Off The Boat Mariah mention (50,209)
by Isiah from USA
| |
|
|
In episode 4 of the new ABC sitcom "Fresh Off the Boat" which is set in 1995, the narrator mentioned Mariah. Basically the parents of the main character were preparing the house because family from out of town was visiting. To paraphrase: "My parents prepared the house like Mariah Carey was visiting. And I mean pre-Nick Cannon, hot, Washington Wizard Jersey-wearing, Mariah freaking Carey. They even put lemon trees in the house." It made me laugh.
