Do you know this song, LC (46,580)

Your statement is weird. I love it when Mariah does that. And no I don't know all the songs. Also I'm a big Michael Jackson fan and I don't know all his songs. Even Michael Jackson ask do you remember this one when he takes it back to the J5 era. People here need to calm down. Also I don't know if I said this but I think it's adorable when Mariah specifically ask if we know a song we may definitely know. I scream out yes. And get excited. I love it.

Thanks for getting what I mean PJW, and I never really thought about it that way, so that's a good point. And MimiLamb, what I really mean is that I have never seen an artist of her stature ask something like that. You would rarely or never hear Whitney, Celine, Michael, Madonna or Janet ever ask that during their concerts. Those are people on Mariah's level as legendary superstars, and the one thing they all have that Mariah doesn't have is confidence on stage. A comparison I once read about Whitney and Mariah was that Mariah pleaded with the audience for their attention, while Whitney commanded it. It seems pretty accurate because in my opinion, Mariah is a lot more humble on stage than Whitney or any of the other performers. (Maybe because she didn't grow up performing like they did? I think she said that.) But it really used to annoy me how she would never acknowledge her status. But, idk lol. I'm okay with it now.

What I meant to write in the last post (but forgot) was that I view Mariah's "do you know this song" thing in the same vein as the onstage diva antics. Or one time it really didn't connect for me was when she performed "Just be good to me" and she does that. "C'mon, everybody get up - get up - and you. Get up." Really, it's all banter to keep the crowd hyped but she never was good at faking it and like the first poster said, she is so lovely when relaxed that it doesn't matter (to me) if she doesn't banter much, her music is enough.

Dear Rockyroc (46,577)

I don't know what you have been going through my dear, but I believe that God is all about love, and you are beautiful in your own way, your own term. Lambily is a family and we love you. At times we do feel so alone and abandoned but keep on moving, one step in front of the others. Thank God I hope that your friends will accept with whoever you are because there is nothing wrong with you my dear. And Mariah songs will always transcend and illuminate, casting your fears away. Songs like Through The Rain and Can't Take That Away literally save my life, and I hope you know, all of us love you Rockyroc. You are strong than you ever thought. We love you.

I get what LC is saying. It annoys me too. I can undertand why Mariah would say it when ad-libbing a snippet of "Llove takes time" as it's an old song that some newer fans aren't necessarily aware of or familiar with, especially not live and in that format. Though someone correctly pointed out that most artists do this, Mariah has a habit of doing it to cover her discomfort and the awkwardness she feels on stage and employs the same line more often than not at the beginning of ABMB. To my ears, it doesn't sound cute. In her defence, she's not alone. so many artists have stage fright. And having watched a ridiculous amount of her live performances, I'm overly familiar and bored with the same tactic, something I'm sure non fanatics don't really notice. Again, I think it's a camera thing. In intimate performances where she doesn't need to be the star, she's very sweet, confident, talks humbly with the crowd (she once chatted to us about eastenders, a UK soap) but when there's cameras or a mass crowd, she feels the need to keep up that "star charisma" and fill space, something that at times, I feel, comes across as awkward.

I just wanted to reach out. I don't know what it is you're going through but know this; myself and many others here love you and I'm sure that likewise you're very loved in the real world. Don't ever feel ashamed about anything or let others definitions of situations define how you should feel about yourself. All problems we're given, internal or external, are opportunities to open our minds, see life from a different perspective and grow. That's so, so valuable. Yeah, they're always hard but the reward is love, maturity and strength. Many never get those lessons. I'm glad you have friends to talk to and I hope they're supporting you right now. But please, don't worry about anything. It will be okay. I'm society's textbook definition of f**k up; I'm gay, been a victims of abuse, have HIV, have had mental health problems, substance abuse, homelessness and to add to it all am a liberal thinker who doesn't believe in the system. I've been judged, to put it lightly. But from it all I've learnt to love myself, follow my heart and it's made me beyond happy. It's given me real peace and truth. It's yours to have as well. I promise oh, and Mariah was there for it all as she is for you. Love to you Rocky. I don't know where in England you are, but I'm in London. If you need an understanding person to talk to/email/text then just let me know. Anytime. (Plays "anytime you need a friend".)

Can you name me an artist or band that doesn't say something like that during their concerts? I have been to so many different concerts from different kind off artists and bands, I have heard it a million times. I don't think it has anything to do with Mariah being insecure when she asks that.

Ok there is nothing wrong about a woman not wanting to be upfront about her age. I'm only 25 but I don't folks know that. Am I in denial? No. This has nothing about Mariah being delusional and Mariah has talked about her change growing up and such many times. Even in her music. You don't even sound like a fan. Her song Butterfly, and that one song on E=MC square when she talks about she was a girl you were a man I was to young to understand. And that other song on there the last track on that album. She talks about growing all the time. She even talks about her child hood all the time and sunflowers for alfred Roy. Tina I don't even understand what you're talking about. Even when she talks about motherhood in her interviews. You just don't keep up.

Please know that God loves you. I know this because I've felt God's love and can tell you that it's inclusive and good. It does not condemn or judge. Please don't forget about your spiritual side because you think God is not for you. My brother came out in college and it was very hard for him because we grew up in a very Christian home. The whole time he lived at home he couldn't say anything because he was afraid the family would reject him. After he left he turned away from God and made some bad choices. He wanted to feel loved and accepted and turned to drugs and promiscuity. It hasn't turned out well. He is a genius with a kind heart and so many talents but he is trapped. I still have hope that he will rise above. I know right now society treats LGBT as scapegoats but don't let those people be a reflection of what God is about. God does not make mistakes and you are beautiful and perfect and loved just the way you are. God loves you so much. I am a mother and I love my son so incredibly much and I am a mere mortal. I cannot imagine God's love for us. Do not be ashamed and do not let anyone take your light. Always choose love; ie. what is the loving thing to do that will heal and uplift? When people say hurtful things to you, forgive them, and let it go. They don't understand God's love and they are doing the best they can with what they do know. Don't let others tell you who you are. If you don't believe, ask God to show you his love. Please forgive me if I overstepped.

"Do you know this song?" (46,569)
by LC from USA
| |
|
|
I used to hate when Mariah asked this at concerts. I mean, most notably, last year, when she was singing "Love Takes Time" in Sydney, she asked the audience, "Do you know this?" But, which Mariah fan doesn't know this song? Also, in one of her TAOM concerts, she was singing ABMB and asked the audience if they remembered it. I just... Ugh. A legend like her should be commanding of the stage by now. It annoyed me sometimes how unassuming and insecure she was and is of her status, especially for the "demanding diva" she is painted as by the media. But then, I thought about it, and it's what makes me love her even more. She is so humble. Her asking this shows that even to her fans, who love and adore her and her music so much, she would never be so presumptuous as to assume we know her songs, even if they are some of her biggest hits. She explained in an interview that she hides behind the diva persona sometimes but that's not who she really is. Her asking this during her shows proves that. I just wish the general public would see that side of her, too.

Appalling discourse (46,566)
by Brad from USA
| |

|
Hi lambs. I hope everyone is being well to themselves and others. I have not commented on the "reports" concerning Mariah and Nick's marriage. However, the disgraceful comments that some online readers and many "media outlets" seem ready to hurl toward Mariah, in particular, are appalling. I am not sure when such attacks and pure meanness became acceptable in our society but it seems the proliferation of electronic media has really emboldened safely anonymous people. I find it disgusting. Mariah is a person as we all are. She is a mother and sister and daughter, as so many of our own family members are. She has created great joy and aspirations with her career and God given talents. And like each of us, she has shortcomings. That so many readily feel empowered to vilify her is a truly sad comment on the nature of the society that we have created for ourselves and our children. Be well.

A hit album (46,565)
by Abraham from USA
| |
|
|
Last message of the day I promise. I've been having a great day. Listening to music. I thought I'd share my idea of a hit album for Mariah. Maybe I could be a music producer or sequence songs for an album, lol. Hope Mariah would see this. 1. A song like "Treat her like a lady". Something fun, up tempo. 2. A new Mariah theme song like "Can't take that away". Something that lets everyone know she's strong and will be okay. 3. A real cool r&b song 4. 70's type song about love or break up 5. An up tempo song featuring Pharell or Robin Thicke. 6. Hope street. 7. A love ballad type song featuring Sam Smith, John Legend or a female artist. I've always wanted Mariah to do a song with Luciano Pavarotti. 8. Gospel type song. 9. This cannot be love featuring R. Kelly. 10. Old school/60's or 70's type song. 11. I'll still be around featuring Stevie Wonder. 12. A nice feel good song like "Golden" from Jill Scottt. Something uplifting about being okay and enjoying life. 13. A jazz song (most of us have been wanting). 14. The song "Save the day" or Michael Jackson's "You are not alone".

Nick / Treat her like a lady (46,564)
by Abraham from USA
| |
|
|
If Nick cheated on Mariah that's messed up. Mariah is gorgeous, but the most important thing is that they had children together. That model has nothing on Mariah, I don't care if she is younger. No competition, sorry. Mariah was looking absolutely stunning around the time she shot the video for "Beautiful". Not just her body but her face. She looked younger than 44. But then her shoulder injury happened and that's when you gained weight from the medications. Mariah still beautiful thick though. With all that happened with Nick and the album flopping. Wouldn't it be amazing if Mariah came back strong with a song like "Treat her like a lady"? It's perfect and so appropriate for Mariah. She should really try and do a song like that. If any of you don't know it, please look it up. It's from Celine Dion. I have faith that even with the divorce. Mariah is going to release a hit album. Let's continue to support and believe in her.

Outside (46,562)
by RockyRoc from England

|
So, a few days ago I told my closest friends the truth about what I am (it pains me to even type it, I'm really ashamed by this weakness), and there was a point where I just completely broke down, each and every one of them told me that they were okay with it, but like the song says, I still felt uncertain and alone. I put "Outside" on full blast with my headphones, and it just felt so raw, it was like me and Mariah were sharing each other's pain. I'm so grateful to have a song that I, and certainly others, can relate to.

Mariah's attitude etc my thoughts (46,561)
by Tiina from Finland
| |
|
|
She does live in a world of her own to a lot of extent, like for example refusing to acknowledge her age. The 12-year-old thing, I'm afraid, is getting a bit awkward by now. I realize she's referring to her spirit but I'd love for Mariah to be proud of the woman she is today. Beyonce is very vocal about being over 30 (which is young and so is 40 these days) and in her documentary she said she's not the same person she used to be. It was refreshing to hear that because Mariah would never say something like that. But owning up to your age doesn't mean you have to let yourself go or that you're old now, so you're over. It means that you've matured, evolved and achieved something greater as a person. And my goodness, it's not normal if you keep insisting that you never change. You can't relate to that. Then there are the other things that keep her detached, like surrounding herself with yes people, although I don't think the problem is Mariah, it's the people around her. Take B. Scott. He used to say that as much as he loves MC, he'd be the first one to call her out if that was the case. He is too close to her now to express any form of criticism, like he used to do. That too has got to be a problem when you're as big of a star as Mariah. It's just like she lives in this bubble. I adore her, she's an incredible artist and a wonderful person and maybe I should keep my opinons to myself but this is my observation.

Media on the divorce (46,560)
by Carol from Spain

Amazing how the media seems to blame Mariah for the divorce. Blaming her on her divalicious ways and stuff. Honestly, I admit it must be hard to live with someone like Mariah but it takes two to make a marriage work I honestly think Mariah just got fed up with all the bull*** Nick made over the years. I always defended their marriage but lately I'm changing my opinion. Nick will speak more about this in the future while I expect for Mariah to be calm, posed, collected and respectful since he's the father of dem babies. Nick chewed more then he could handle because he can't deal with a woman more famous, richer and more successful then him. His loss.

I admit it. I was guilty of hoping some of the stuff the media is reporting isn't true (divorce). One thing I will always remember about Oprah that impacted my life was when she said the 50's were the best years of her life and life only got better as we age. I was 21 at the time and I felt so unafraid of growing older after hearing her say that with such conviction. Like growing older was something exciting to look forward to. I agree that Oprah could be an amazing mentor for Mariah. Mimi L I don't blame her either for getting lost, I still get lost sometimes, it's easy to fall into. We just have to help each other out and gently wake each other up. Thank you again everyone who responded to my post. The media on Mariah (46,556)
by Abraham from USA
| |
|
|
It's so annoying and upsetting when people are so quick to jump and attack Mariah when's she's going through a hard time. I don't know if any of you know but first it was one of the men from The Breakfast Club that had made a remark, saying that Mariah hasn't sold an album since the 90's. It's funny because when she was there for the interview he was all kissing her ass. She's goes out of her way to do an interview and that's the thanks she gets. Then the people from TMZ, they were talking and some what making fun of her, what she wore and "Glitter". But they were just mad and pressed that Mariah basically ignored and dismissed their lame asses. She gave them diva Mimi/I don't have time for you losers way and I was all here for it. I was like "Yes Mariah, keep on walking." She doesn't owe them anything. I've never watch TMZ, but after seeing that clip on YouTube, I couldn't believe they'd be talking about a legend like that. They're a bunch of snakes. So glad Mariah did what she did.

Thanks, you guys for getting me. When Mimi L mentioned Mariah may be reading our forum, it made me think about what I would like to tell her. Not because I think I know everything, but just gently and humbly from one soul to another. If I ever met her I would not be able to tell her these suggestions to her face because I couldn't live with myself if what I said caused her pain and I had to see any trace of hurt on her face. But Mariah, if you are reading this, I will always support you no matter what road you decide to take. Because I love and appreciate you and your artistry.

That TRL moment (46,551)
by Isabelle from USA
| |
|
|
Why do the media like bring up the TRL moment over and over? As I watch it 13 years later it doesn't seem so over dramatic as the media would have made it. If it was Katy Perry, Beyonce, etc. doing that surprise appearance they won't have said anything negative about it. Mariah worked endlessly that made her have a breakdown during that time. Plus she had her breakdown before her movie and album came out and the media are always to assume that she will have another breakdown for bad album sales. There is more to life than album sales.

Edward / the importance of image (46,550)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
I agree with your point about projecting an image that corresponds to your music. You really need to look the way you sound, because in this modern, visual world, people are just less wiliing to invest time and effort to comprehend and fill in any sort of disconnect between the two. It's actually what makes an artist "the whole package", not just a combination of looks and talent. Look at John Mayer. I personally still love the guy, but barely anyone takes notice of his post '10 releases. Why? It's the dichotomy between his image (increasingly infamous dating history, all gone haywire, almost like a male Taylor Swift, who he coincidentally also happened to once date) and his material (mostly serious, pensive, odes to the brokenhearted). A credible, likable image can go either of 2 ways: 1) possibly make one bland and boring, or 2) make one seem more believable as an artist. If the entire 90's, Charmbracelet, and TEOM eras have taught us anything, it's that with a good image, Mariah will always end up in the latter route. But at the end of the day, she's still stubborn and will do what she wants, and whatever consequences may follow, what's important is that we'll be there for her.
