Stephen / Mariah the singer (46,056) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
You're right. Normally, fans would always jump at the chance of seeing their idol live, regardless of whether they perform the whole concert live or not. The fact that some fans don't want Mimi to tour (possibly to spare her the impending criticism and further image-tainting, fearing that she'd mime or botch her performances) indicates how it only took less than 2 years of bad decisions and appearances to tarnish her reputation to what I fear might be an irreversible situation. Before Idol premiered last year, Mariah was fine, even with a failed single and an escalating diva identity. Now, even her great new music can't steal focus from her image. It seems like more and more people are almost starting to treat her like they do Miley or Bieber - not taking her seriously and possibly just waiting for her to implode one day. This emphasizes the fact that first and foremost, Mariah Carey is known as a singer, and one of the best that ever graced this earth for that matter. If that's taken away, she'll just be a caricature. She should get back to that. Care for her voice more so it would serve her better even through the most unforgiving of schedules. I'm hoping that she gets to see the damage and somehow takes solid steps to address them.

Edward / work ethic (46,055) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
Hey Edward, I'm glad you understand my point. It's good to know there are people on here who can keep it real. I'm not gonna respond to everyone else individually, but in terms of work ethic, I'm not for one second buying that making an album over 4 years somehow constitutes working hard. Normal mothers may have several kids, two jobs, a home to maintain amongst other things, and all without the aid of a nanny or the support network Mariah has. Most people don't have the luxury of being quicker than anyone else to fire a nanny. That's the reality. She has time to promote a soft drink, but not her album. Fans need to be real and think about the message Mariah is sending to her fans by taking such actions. I don't expect her to work like she did during TEOM, as her life has changed. I get that, but Mariah has been nowhere to be seen. I'm glad we got MIAMTEC, it's a great album, but I don't want any more music until Mariah sorts herself and her voice out.

The Truth (46,054) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
I'm sorry, but I'm not going to take a post by someone who refers to their self as "The Truth" on a Mariah Carey messageboard, and has the cheek to use a picture of Eminem as their avi. There's a certain unintentional irony which makes you look ridiculous. Take a seat, and go learn the art of common sense.

I wasn't speaking for all fans. The clue is in the use if the word "some". I appreciate that you may have your own reasons for wanting or not wanting to see Mariah live, and fully get why concerns over her voice may put you off. We'll have to agree to disagree re work ethic and attitude. I'm not going to try to validate my opinion, because it's just that; an opinion. However, I must point out that I never referred to her diva antics or Ariana, and tbh I don't understand why half of your post was on Ariana.

Work ethic (46,052) by Jenny from South Africa
I think Mariah had an incredible work ethic for almost 20 years. She worked so hard that she collapsed from exhaustion in 2001. If she wants to enjoy herself and her children now then I think she's more than earned the right to slow down. I wasn't sure she would put out any more albums at all after the babies were born so I'm just grateful she did put out an album and it was a really great one. I understand that fans are used to more and that some people feel she needs sales in order for the record labels to want to put her music out, but she's rich enough to do it herself if it ever comes to that. I feel sad when fans think she should be working harder when she gave us 200% for so long. (No disrespect to you Stephen, I understand where you're coming from and I generally enjoy most of your posts. )

Stephen (46,051) by MimiLamb from Germany
I don't want Mariah to go on tour but not because of the reasons you said. I want her to feel confident about herself and her singing. That's not the case and I understand that she wants to work on herself before taking this step. She works hard so to say she doesn't again a point were I disagree. The diva attitude never bothered me because I know its a "public persona" she shows her funny sides enough as well. It's cool that you see it like that and others as well, but it's not the whole fanbase/lambily that see it like you do and have other reasons why they want her to wait or not tour right away. With that said a wish you all a great day/night.

Stephen (46,049) by Abraham from USA
No, no, no. The only reason I would not want Mariah to tour is because of her voice. It has nothing to do with her attitude, lack of work or where she is now. Mariah's diva antics don't bother me that much. And she's done nothing that has turned me off or not love or respect her any less. The little shade she threw at Ariana in that Breakfast Club interview was nothing. She wished her the best and longevity. Which was more than enough. I don't see any reflections of Mariah in Ariana what so ever. Other than the whistle register. I think Ariana is a beautiful, talented young women. But I don't think she's on Mariah's level. And lack of work you say? I hope you are referring about the promotion. Because Mariah did work hard on the album. And I'm proud of her. I've never had the urge to see any artist in concert. But if Mariah were to come to Texas, then just maybe I might consider. After all, she is Mariah Carey. All I would ask if she gave it her all. Sing live, a lot of hand and body movements. I want to see her confident and shut the place down.

Mariah in the UK (46,048) by Bill from the UK
I really hope Mariah extends her tour to the UK. I saw her for Daydream and Rainbow, and was devastated that I missed her stopping by for Charmbracelet due to financial constraints at the time. A few posts back somebody said she can't fill arenas and can only do intimate venues now. What a treat that would be. To be up close and personal with Mariah. I saw Amy Grant perform in a small church and it was one of the best concerts I had ever been to. Being so near to Mariah and sharing the experience with a small group of people would be wonderful.

Tour (46,045) by enwar00 from usa
I've seen Mariah on every tour that she's done in the US and I will most definitely see her this time around. I could give a fuck if she plays a small venue. She did theaters last time, and I don't see anything wrong with that. It's reality. I would love to see her at the House of Blues. The media can suck it. My admiration for her and her music is more personal than whether or not she is the most popular girl in school.

Disgraceful? Some truth on that subject (46,044) by THE TRUTH from USA
Okay Stephen from the UK. I'm sure MC does not need the price of your ticket if she did in fact tour in Europe. Your grasp of the English language seems to me to be the only thing that's disgraceful. What was the last record you released? Last song that you wrote which hundreds of millions of people will remember the words to untill they draw their last dying breath? You are in no position to throw stones unless of course you are say, Michael Jackson, or maybe Sting or Bono and we just don't know it? Clue us in please, we're just dying to know where you get off being well let's just say, "being you".

Wedding ring / tour (46,043) by Martyn from England, UK
I was only referring to the Hercules premiere, in which she is categorically not wearing a ring. Look at the photos, there's loads of close ups of her hand. She's not wearing any rings. As for the tour, I agree with you Stephen. I don't think you're being harsh at all. That said, like you I would still buy a ticket and go. I'd just be aware that I was in for an evening of little movement and a lot of lip-syncing.

Stephen / To tour or not to tour, that is the question (46,042) by Edward from USA
I couldn't have said better than that, your post was so on point. Some lambs might see those fans that are not that enthusiastic about her tour to be fake fans, but the reality is that when the enthusiasm is not there, it is not there. I would definitely support Mariah should she tour in the US, but to be honest, I would rather she recoup and come back stronger by getting things in order. I would feel literally like sh*t should they start picking on her while she's on tour in the US. We are on the smart cellphones era, and no matter how much you might dub a performance, there are always some fans that get the raw footage and sometimes it is great, but sometimes it is not that great. I'm personally not too excited about seeing her in concert during this messy era because she's in the eye of the storm right now, I think she should just tour Asia, come back home, regroup, and get her sh*t together. Some lambs need to understand that Mariah didn't get to where she is just by the support of her fans, not matter how many copies of her albums we buy.

Mariah's fave tracks from each album (46,041) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I'm a huge fan, but I don't think I'm a hardcore fan because I only know a few of her favorite songs from her own albums. Like I know her top fave from Butterfly is The Roof, and that she loves Underneath The Stars from Daydream, but sadly I guess that's about it. I haven't really watched a lot of her interviews so would you be kind enough to fill me in on her other faves from her other albums? I'd appreciate it a lot and you may also be educating others as well.

Charmbracelet (46,038) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I personally don't really consider Charmbracelet underrated, because despite its okay commercial performance and mostly negative critical reception, I know it holds a special place in the hearts of most Mariah fans. It holds a few firsts for her: her first album since the Glitter debacle, her first where it's become really apparent that her voice wasn't what it used to be, and her first one that feels less forced/obligatory than what is usually expected from her thanks to the circumstances surrounding its creation and release (expectations were relatively low and she just signed on to a new label for a reasonable deal). The agenda was pretty clear here - go back to where she started and try to recapture her adult contemporary pop audience she alienated when she was transitioning into an r&b/hip-hop/urban artist. While that turned out to be less successful than she had hoped, this release was a triumph for her in several ways. To date, it remains her least polished body of work, which actually is a good thing as the mostly stripped down, organic production lends a warmer, more intimate feel to the music. It also features some of her most candid and personal lyrics, as well as some of her most playful melodies. The lack of immediate hooks actually benefits the album as it diverts its listener's attention to the story each song tells. You can tell how therapeutic the whole constructing process was for her, making it clear that from then on, she was gonna make music her way just for the love of it. Most importantly, it abandons her superstar persona, making it the most human and humane she's ever sounded in her entire career so far. Wanna hear wide-eyed Mariah? Listen to her first 3 albums. Mariah at the top of her game? Play her mid to late 90s LPs. Criminally underrated Mariah? Put Glitter on. Mimi? Spin any of her post-05 records. But if you wanna hear her at her humblest and most relatable, then go for Charmbracelet. It's the sound of a woman who's been knocked down bigtime but is slowly gaining back her faith.

Wedding ring (46,037) by Gerald from USA by the way of NYC
I see that some fans are commenting on MC not wearing her wedding ring which is not true. If you look closely on her finger from her most recent instagram picture, you will notice her wedding band with her butterfly ring on top of it. The truth of the matter is she has not been wearing her engagement ring with her wedding band. Maybe she doesn't need to wear both rings together anymore.

Mariah's tour (46,036) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
I find it interesting that some fans have said that they would rather Mariah did not tour at this moment in time. I'm not criticising them for their viewpoint, I just find it interesting that if Mariah fans are saying they would rather that she didn't tour, then perhaps Mariah should take note. It's a marker of how disgraceful her career has become. I know it sounds harsh, especially considering the fact that there are clearly things going on behind the scenes that we are not aware of, but nonetheless, her attitude and distinct lack of work ethic has ultimately done her relationship with her fans damage. Irrespective of what is going on in an artist's career, you would always expect hardcore fans to be excited to see that artist live. The fact that some Mariah fans don't seem too enthused says more about Mariah than it does about them. Personally, I think a tour in the US and Europe would be disastrous and lead to further ridicule. However, I see why she is touring Asia. She has a certain eminent of her reputation still in tact there. With all that being said, if she does come to the UK, I would certainly buy a ticket and support her.

I've just been looking at the pics from the Hercules afterparty and I've noticed that Mariah is no longer wearing her wedding ring. Should we be worried?

Celine Dion / Mariah (46,032) by Abraham from USA
It's so sad what Celine Dion is going through. Her husband's health, her illness. God help them both, and hope they can make it through. I'm not a fan, but I respect her. And wish her the best. As far as Mariah touring. No, I'd rather see her not tour. She should rest her voice. But I wish her the best as well. I will always support and believe in her. And I can't wait for her to start again with a new album. Release a good single and music video. Promote, and get her 19th number one. There are at least 3 or 4 songs on the album that could have been chart toppers, if "Touch my body" made it to number one. Surely "You don't know what to do" could have too. I really love that song. But am I the only one who likes the live version from "Good morning America" better? Well whether it was live, I don't care. She always comes through. I don't like "MOAIA" at all. But she didn't let me down with this album. She still has the talent to write and produce good music. Hopefully her and Jermaine stay friends and continue to work together. They are great together. I would say that as long as she has Bryan Michael Cox and Big Jim Wright, she will be fine. Those two men are excellent songwriters. I would say that I would also one day like Mariah to work with Walter again. I also would like to mention Pharell. The first time I heard "Say something". I wanted Mariah to work with Pharell in the future. That guy is talented and knows how to make and produce a good song. "Say something" is my favorite song from "TEOM". So they need to do something together sometime. I think it's about time.

Mimi and her mini tour (46,031) by Edward from USA
I definitely think Mariah is going to tour those places where they have shown her love lately, and I don't see anything wrong with that. Asia is actually a continent where she can still sell arenas, so it would be a wise move on her part. As much as I want her to tour here in US, I wouldn't blame her if she decided not to. When Charmbracelet was released, she had to go on intimate concerts, I was in two of them, and for an artist of Mariah's caliber, it was sad to see her in such small venues, but she was building her popularity back up then. The Tokyo dome holds 55,000 people, Radio City Music holds 6,015. When I saw her in Maryland, it was only 2,800 of us there. So, Asia is the place to focus on first.

MIAMTEC (46,030) by Otti from Belgium
The problem with this erea is that Mariah wasn't ready at all to release MIAMTEC. Although she was ready in 2013, but then she had that shoulder injury. If you take a look to the coverart of MIAMTEC and her performances at The Today Show 2013, she looks the same there. But due to health issue she gained weight. Everyone was complaining that she looks different in real life, and photoshopped on the coverart of the album. Mariah wasn't feeling right, that's why she postponed the album release date serval times. And when the fans get mad, she felt under pressure and suddenly she did promotion a month before the release, using pictures from a year ago. Everything in a rush, you can see that she was not that happy. And left the project. You can't expect from Mariah to make videos, perform or do promotion when she is not feeling comfortable in her skin. She is human. At least the reviews for MIAMTEC were one of her best in her career. Her promotion team didn't even pick on that.

World tour / Carla from Portugal (46,029) by Martyn from England, UK
I agree. I don't want to sound negative, but I think it's bizarre that there's been no mention of US/Europe. I'm pretty sure she won't come to the UK anyway. If she didn't with Emancipation, why would she now? I think she'll finish Asia, do a few dates in North America and that will be it.

World tour, maybe not (46,028) by Carol from Spain
I actually don't believe Mimi is doing a typical world tour. She is going to the markets where she knows she'll be accepted and that's it. Maybe touring in the US but I think she's not coming to Europe at all. Anyone agrees or am I rambling.

Is Mariah touring the US? (46,027) by Manny from U.S.
I've been dying to know if Mariah will tour the US. So far I have not seen anything mentioning that she is. Last time I saw her in concert was in Vegas (MOAIA). I hope she does do an extensive tour here. I know there's been tours were she focused more on touring in foreign countries. I've only seen her three times on tour (CB, TEOM, MOAIA) and I loved her even more. Has anybody heard anything about the American tour?

Katy vs Mariah? (46,026) by Otti from Belgium
It's unthankful that someone like Katy Perry, who can't sing, makes music only for kids (that's why she is popular, it's the biggest market), thinks that she is in a place to bring Mariah down? I want to see her 25 years from now. If you take the autotune out of her songs, there would be no kid on this world to buy or listen to her music. On the other hand, she uses the same blueprint that Mariah once made popular. Who worked first with Snoop? Mariah did Crybaby featuring Snoop in 1999. Who worked first with Kanye West? Mariah did work with him on TEOM. So respect the master.
