Here's the thing (45,309)

At this point, The Elusive Chanteuse isn't going to be a successful album. If its doing so poorly after only a month and a half of being released, it won't be anymore successful in months to come. Now, I'm not saying this to diss Mariah as I think this new album is pretty damn good. I do think Mariah needs to change her tactics as an artist though. Perhaps it's time for Mariah to return to her adult contemporary roots instead of going after the hip hop thing all the time. I enjoy her hip hop stuff, but we need a change. Her image needs to change as well as her music too. She needs to dial it back a little bit as far as the skimpy outfits go. I just wanna hear an album from a Mariah who has completely matured. She succeeded partially with Chanteuse, but she needs to go that one step further and put something out as stunning as Music Box was. That's the sound she needs to go for really.

I m 100 % agreed with JD regarding the album. The auality of the album is excellent and when some hits will spread the radio it will still sell more. Don't you think?

You guys represent the few of us who are here solely for how amazing this album is, thanks for speaking up so eloquently for the rest and keeping Mariah's integrity in tact. Your words are appreciated as Mariah should be respected however you wish to criticize her. Let's not be ungrateful, she worked hard on bringing her past and present together on one perfect album and has created a greatest hits of her catalogue with 12 new songs. I don't need to hear her album everyday but whenever I listen to it, I'm enjoying every second, and hearing something new each time (like with all her albums). Mariah said it herself, the acceptance of love is the main theme in all her albums, and it's evident that she'll keep waiting for that since she can't even please her own fan base. At the end of the day it's her life and her words to share with the world, whether she's ever understood is a question that remains to be answered. Most critics love this album yet sadly the general public have yet to embrace it. We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to listen to it and reflect. My life is dependent on a Mariah song/ album/ soundtrack, so if she promotes her project or not doesn't phase me as long as I keep getting new material from her heart to feed my soul. She's just beyond every level, she's earned her place to do as she seems fit for herself and her family, please respect that.

Thank you for your post. I was beginning to feel "all alone in love" with this album and MC. It feels great to know that I'm not the only one who feels the same. Our favorite has given us what so many can't these days in this industry which is an actual piece of art, without catering to 12 year olds. I feel as if the music maybe just a little too sophisticated for today's radio sometimes and that thought is just based on what they choose to play over the music MC has released in the past couple of years.

Wow. She is gorgeous. Makeup can really do wonders. But her lips and cheekbones remind most of MC. It's like she could be her little sister or something. Or perhaps a niece that we've never known about. Great post.

Are you really a fan? You're always criticizing Mariah, or throwing shade. Don't worry about her. Stop whining and just listen to the music. I for one love the album. Mariah's at a point in her life where she can just relax and live life peacefully. And just enjoy and take care of her kids. You think she cares what you or anyone posts or says about her. She can do whatever she wants.

Effort (45,303)
by Marissa from USA
| |
|
|
My issue is not with sales or chart positions, it's with effort. It makes no sense to put out a great album, do 3 performances and move on as if nothing ever happened. I feel like the artist should be or at least seem like the biggest fan of their work. She may say she cares about this album, but actions speak louder than words and if she's not promoting the album, regardless of what she says I'm not convinced. If it was a trash album then I could understand wanting to drop it and run, but this is great work that most of the world will never hear or care about, and a lot of it is because she's not promoting it. The album is good but my excitement died off for it quickly because it's moment in the sun was so brief. Without the excitement and some hype, although it's good music, there's no reason or urgency for me to listen to MIAM over Daydream or any other album that I like. When I bought TEOM I played the hell out of it for months, and a lot of it's because every time I looked up Mariah was on a talk show or awards show singing. An album experience is a lot more fun and exciting when the artist is zealously promoting and when both the gp and fans are into it or at least know it exists. To sum this era up in a quote, "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" If you have an album and barely promote it, does it exist? Most of the world would respond with a resounding no at this point. This is a sad time.

MIAMTEC era and the lack of promotion (45,302)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
I'll admit, I was skeptical MC could pull off another classic album of this caliber before it was released in June. I thought she lost her magic, passion, and ability to make songs in a meaningful way. However I was rightfully wrong. I love this album so much. The ad-libs, nostalgia for hip and rnb, and simply produced ballad to showcase her limited range nowadays. It's everything I wanted as a fan. However with that being said, I find her lack of promotion for the album very strange. She doesn't talk to the fans directly anymore via Twitter (Name That Tune or Lambily Day), FB, or MariahCarey.com. It's like she doesn't care anymore. I know it's tough for a 44 year old woman to push music but despite your opinions about JLo she works hard to push a project she's peddling. Both have long careers and twins. I just feel like a change has happened in Mariah that has made her greedy and obnoxious and as an affect on her fans alienate us. When Mariah had issues with Sony music during Rainbow, she was very vocal in the press (radio, magazines) and always present in popular culture to push her projects. This time around it's silent. I wish she'd come back down to Earth and regain her humility again to the person she once was. I don't blame IDJ, Jermaine Dupri, Nicki Minaj, JLo, Tommy Mottola - they all can't be villains forever, I think Mariah has to look inside herself and find the hero we all once knew and loved.

I'm here for the music (45,300)
by Alex from England
| |
|
|
I am a bit thrown when I read that some people love the album but haven't listened to it in over a month because they are disappointed in the fact that the artist who made the album doesn't care, in their opinion. If you know Mariah a little, you'll know that she cares about the album. She has spoken many times of how she wants people to enjoy it from beginning to end as she feels it represents a journey and is one of her best albums. Can people understand that we don't know everything that happens behind the scenes? Yes, I want her to be successful again like everyone else but I'm fine if she is not as long as she releases music for years to come. Yes, YDKWT has hit written all over it and yet, I will still listen to the album if the era officially stopped now. Are we in for the music? For the #1's? Seriously sometimes I'm just baffled. As much as I want resung vocals, great videos, amazing performances, Mariah on TV everywhere all the time, massive album sales, another #1 single on the Hot 100, at the end of the day, Mariah has created one masterpiece and sales "don't mean a thing to me" if I feel Mariah's emotion in her work. She has done her part: make great music. It used to be that this was all fans asked of their favorite artists: make great music. Period. I don't mean to offend anyone but at some point, some of you need to reconsider what you feel for Mariah and her music. The woman should be praised for not compromising her artistic integrity. End of rant.

What's Mariah's plan? (45,299)
by Darryle from USA
| |
|
|
I read the article with JD saying that Mariah's sales will build overtime and that they have a plan that they is in play. I'm not denying that sales will build overtime because they will but if a music video is there plan it's not going to help. You can't just shoot a video for a song no one knows about. Questions: 1. What happened between February and now? She promoted YM(E) more than the album itself. What changed? 2. Why is Jermaine giving us more information on what's happening than Mariah? She's just staying quiet not telling us anything.

I agree with your post almost completely. I've lost enthusiasm for this album too. From Triumphant until this very day, this entire "campaign" has been a disaster. All this ridiculous mess has taken away my excitement for this album. Mariah can't even be bothered to do call in interviews to radio stations from her home. That is just lazy and sad. Hopefully she'll care enough for her next album to promote it properly and learn from the multiple mistakes she has made with this one.

A horrible, yet preventable era (45,296)
by Marissa from USA
| |
|
|
I totally agree that this was a label escape album. I'm not buying the "she just wants to be with her kids" excuse because Roc & Roe were around in 2013 when she was doing American Idol for several months (that's a lot more time spent away from her kids than it would be to go on several talk shows and promote). She's apparently just over it. Throwaway album or not, I will never agree with making such a quality album and just letting it die. If the lack of promotion is some act of rebellion towards her label, it is only making her look as if she has lost her mind to be in the business for this long and pull stunts like this. To be totally honest, this is a great album but I haven't even listened to the whole thing in a month. I just have no enthusiasm for it anymore because no one cares including the artist herself. Good music or not, this era has been the equivalent to a freight train running over her legacy and she's sitting back like this is a joke. I refuse to make up excuses for her, blame other people or downplay how dumb all of this mess was. In my opinion, from 2012-2014 she has made her dumbest career moves and I don't know if she will ever bounce back. No one's taking her seriously anymore.

MIAM (45,295)
by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales

Regardless of performance, this album is one of Mariah's greatest achievements, and there has clearly been so much effort and love put into this collection of songs. Whether she wants out of the label or not is frankly of little interest to me. I just hope nobody feels validation in calling the album poor to justify their belief that Mariah wants to leave the label. I'm sure it's true that she wants to leave at this point, but before she did, she created a diamond out of dung.

I hate to say I told you so, but I knew this was a "get me off this label" album. Just like Rainbow. I like the new USA Today article. I hope MC does do something she wants to do and not worry about singles. I just hope it doesn't end in an album full of Triumphant.

No YDKWTD audio/lyrics video on Vevo, again (45,292)
by Edward from USA

Well, after certain age, many people keep wanting their favorite artists to be successful. Mariah's brand is about good music and success, if it weren't, they wouldn't introduce her as the best selling female artist of all time, or the female with the most #1's on billboard. Implying fans should just listen to the good music and shut the f*ck up is utterly ridiculous. I love Sarah McLachlan's music, whenever she drops an album, I follow her just for the sake of her beautiful voice and music, but she wasn't ever sold to us as the mega star that Mariah is. Yes, MIAMTEC's chance at success rested on #Beautiful, those who don't want to see that should get glasses. IDJ invested on Clear Channel airplay to push it, then the video, but everything turn into a mess. If I just wanted to listen to Mariah's good music, I wouldn't even bother posting in here. Fans are about the brand, the package, not just the good music, unless the artist was originally sold that way to the audience.

New single (45,291)
by G.G. from USA
| |
|
|
YDKWTD was released on July 1st as an official single. Today is the 9th. There is still no audio or lyric video on YouTube or Vevo that would help the song chart better. Mariah is worth a half a billion dollars, if the label won't pay for these things she definitely can afford to do them herself or ask a creative lamb to do it for her. Instead of promoting the single properly I see her posting sexy pictures and pictures promoting her Butterfly drink. I really think she doesn't care about selling any more copies of this album or single. I'm over this entire album debacle. Hopefully she gets her crap together, learns from her gigantic mistakes and does a better job next time. Here's hoping.

Thoughts (45,289)
by clueey23 from USA

|
|
I'm too busy enjoying the album itself to care about YouTube and lyric videos. At a certain age you learn to let go of what you can't change, instead of being confused and upset about it. Who knows what the future holds for this era. I'm thinking more accolades, like Grammys in 2015 instead of a quick blip on Billboards radar. I don't think MIAM needs a single to carry it actually, because the album is that freaking fantastic. And it's already had like 5 songs released to the public including "YDKWTD". What we could use is just a simple media blitz. And have her shut down all the bs that's been said about her in the past couple of months, wearing a pair of jeans and heels and a nice sexy chic top, with her hair pulled back so everyone can look into her eyes, so people can understand that she is a grown woman with grown woman responsibilities. And I could care less really about how the public/media is trying to portray her. What would be even better is if she just uploaded a nice little video just to say hi and thank us for our support and update us with what might be happening in the near future.

Your post made me smile. Its funny but kinda strange how our experiences are the same as Mariah fans, yet were totally different people in different locations lol. I also agree with your observation that Mariah hasn't changed the way most stars do and totally lose themselves in the process. It's truly all in her eyes, those big bright bambi innocent eyes. She's only wiser now and knows the power she possesses - that voice.

YDKWTD / Vevo (45,287)
by Edward from USA

YDKWTD is officially a single, and it is so strange that there's not an official Vevo audio/lyrics video yet. They must be playing a radio edit of the song on the radio, but we wouldn't know what it sounds like if it weren't for TheRereMariahCarey who has been posting different versions of the song on YouTube, like no rap, instrumental, radio edit. I think that this is it with this album. #Beautiful seemed to have been the single that was going to carry this album, but sadly we all know how it went. YDKWTD hasn't even cracked the iTunes top 100 yet.

Mariah should've been #1 on the sexiest women lists in 2005 because she was perfection that year. I mean just watch the video for Don't Forget About Us or Get Your Number. Breathtaking beauty lol. I love a lot of her music videos for different reasons, standouts for me being Heartbreaker, Honey and Touch My Body. You can just tell a lot of effort went into making them and they're so fun to watch. It's such a pleasant surprise when she does something different or unexpected like dancing or dressing up (loved Obsessed for that). She has some bad videos but damn Auld Lang Syne wins the Razzie for worst music video, it doesn't get cringier than that. It's like watching my mother dance lol. But hey at least she looked like she was enjoying herself.
