A new game while we're waiting for any news or appearances (45,284) by Randy from USA
If you were the co-executive producer and Island Def Jam label head, how would you have handled this project? I would have released YDKWTD as a single on Valentine's Day with a all white modern take on a disco themed video. The album would've included thrown away tracks like Hope Street, Triumphant, Almost Home and others as the bonus tracks and the leftover Angels Advocate tracks as a second CD. The album cover would've been the YDKWTD single cover and two weeks before the album, I would've released Meteorite with a singing competition parody typed video.

Our idol (45,283) by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales
Hey Bill. What you wrote in your reply was so good to read. I think everyone on this board can read that and feel that it applies to them as as well. When you revisit Mariah's past in performances or interviews, you can fall in love with her all over again. I know sometimes my own fan status wanes a little, but I catch an interview or hear a song and think "How could you ever believe you could fall out of love with this woman." I know Mariah is not the exact same as she was back then, but I know that she was and still is that girl we fell in love with. Even now when I see her, I still see the same infallible determination and fire in her eyes. It's all about the eyes. They still sparkle with so much intensity and I think "She's still here." It's my idol, our idol, Mariah. She may be older, a lot wiser, have larger breasts, bigger ego etc but she is still that same person. I believe that because I see it, always in the eyes. And I think Mariah would be so sad to read that people had given up on her/failed to see her. She's always wanted to be "seen" as she is for who she is (Looking In). And sometimes we all need a brief little reminder, to help ourselves remember. It's our Mariah. The last of the truly talented living legends, the superstars. And I think we'll all be with her for always.

My favorite is Fantasy but I think she looks the best in Don't Forget About Us. I actually like the UOMF video. Least fave is I Want To Know What Love Is, looks too fake.

My favorite Mariah Carey video is The Roof. It's dark, moody, and edgy. Mariah looks amazing.

Fav / least fav videos (45,277) by TR from USA
I'll do the top three for both. Most favorites:
O Holy Night - She nailed it, and she knew she nailed it.
Crybaby - Visual candy.
Heartbreaker - Good story, nice chick fight, and I didn't even mind much her "rhythm" during the dances. The Rainbow era videos were amazing. I'll put Always Be My Baby, Breakdown, and Miss You Most At Christmas Time for honorable mentions.
Least favorites:
Auld Lang Syne - She could have and should have kept that. Looked like somebody's 5th grade science project.
I Stay In Love - Tried to be Breakdown and it wasn't.
Bye Bye - Because it was the beginning of the end. Who hired Nick Cannon to be in it?
You're Mine - Uninspired to say the least. And please put a top on, ma'am. Is this what you want Monroe to emulate when she gets older?

Anthony Basco re Miss Carey, Mariah (45,161) (45,276) by Bill from the UK
Anthony, I wanted to thank you for the message you wrote the other day about Mariah. It was wonderful to read and it made me realise that I have been harsh on Mariah recently. I love her, and she is a beautiful person (in every possible way), and like you I am not sure what I would do without her. It may seem obvious to many, but it hit home after I read your message and then played MTV Unplugged (my favourite album), that her voice is an absolute joy and pleasure to listen to, that I would happily fill my days playing her songs, and that she has been an inspiration to me in many, many ways. I love her so much. Thank you for the message.

Favourite video (45,275) by tadatorao from japan
My favorite video is Honey. Needless to explain why. Heartbreaker comes close. Even Madonna copies the animation concept in Music and the catfight scene in Die Another Day. I was amazed that an innovative artist like Madonna had to copy from Mariah who wasn't that well known for her creativity in the video department. My least favourite is I Wanna Know What Love Is. It's just so pretentious. Other honourable mentions are Love Takes Time, Can't Let Go and Touch My Body.

Videos (45,274) by Bill from the UK
My favourites would be Loverboy, The Roof, I Still Believe and the colour version of AIWFCIY. I need to give a special mention to all the videos for the Emotions albums. I think that period really cemented Mariah's look, as the first few videos from the debut looked like they didn't quite know how to dress her, do her hair, make up etc, that they all compliment and set each other off. In 1991 her look was really great and I loved the filters on Emotions, the setting for CLG, that kind of mansion hot house she was in, and the church setting of MIH all were brilliant.

Very confused and concerned (45,273) by SC from USA
Hi guys, first of all I'm a big fan of the new album. I listen to it all the time and I love it more as time goes by. Here's my concern. Today is July 8th. Everyone gave YDKWTD a great review and it's by far the biggest "hit" on the album. All reviewers pointed at this song as a potential contender for song of the summer. Where is it? There's a clear disconnect with MC, JD, and the record label, so we know they have lots of problems behind the scenes, but where's the promo? Do they really want to wait until September or October for this? JD keeps talking about other stuff, so the focus on MC (at least on his twitter) is non-existent. He talked about us getting more details "ASAP", but where is it? This is not fair to her fans. We believe in this song and we're behind it, so now show us that you care and at least give us some details on a video or something. What's going on? It really frustrates me because MC wants people to really listen to the album in it completion. OK, but how does she expect for people to hear the album if the sales are this bad? Meaning that people probably don't even know there's an album out. If they give the general audience a song to listen to, then they will gravitate to the album "in its completion" isn't that a better strategy? I just don't know what the disconnect is.

I think my favorite videos from Mariah might be the "Honey" video and "The Roof" video. Really, all of the videos from the "Butterfly" album were great. I also secretly love "Loverboy" because of how outrageous it is and how much fun Mariah appeared to be having. I think my least favorite videos are "Can't Let Go" and "HATEU".

My favourite video has to be Dreamlover. She looked effortlessly cute in shorts and checked shirt. Oh I miss those days when she did not try too hard, now everything is forced. My least favourite video is #Beautifull. That song would have gone straight to the top if it wasnt for that video. Everything about it was cringe worthy.

Favourite/least favourite video (45,269) by Philipp from Switzerland
My least favourite Mariah clips would be Obsessed, Up Out My Face and Auld Lang Syne. I think my favourite video is the I Still Believe/Pure Imagination video. I love the Latina look on Mariah, she looks really good. I also quite like the Bye Bye video, because there are a lot of pictures of lost ones and I feel like it's a very emotional clip. I also love all the Butterfly videos, they are just perfection. Even the Whenever You Call video, although it's just a live clip.

Glitter / Mariah's videos (45,268) by PJW from The U.K.
From what I remember the Glitter soundtrack didn't actually get bad reviews. There were a couple that said it was a bit of a mish-mash of styles but aside from that Mariah was praised on her vocals, the ballads and the retro aspect of it. I agree though, it was well ahead of its time. There was criticism around the Loverboy video and the film but these were all rebound criticisms from that whole period, at least where the video is concerned. Talking of videos, that's a hard one to choose as I like different aspects of various videos. Brett Ratner productions are always great and I can't really choose from them though if pushed, Heartbreaker has the best of everything, video, song, vocal and Mariah-wise. I think she looks the best in I Still Believe. I've never got over how beautiful she is in that. My least favourite has to be You're Mine (Eternal) or I Stay In Love.

I was thinking about all of Mariah's music videos, and which one is my favourite. It's so hard to pick just one. It was even harder trying to think of my least favourite. What are you guys' favourite/least favourite music video?

Glittering disaster (45,266) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I guess a part of me will always be upset that Glitter wasn't even given a fighting chance. It's not perfec, it contains some of Mariah's most ill-advised collaborations (LNADJSML, Loverboy (Remix)), some of her finest vocal performances (LTW, NTF, Twister), and her only upbeat cover (DMTTYO). Yes, it may not be her most consistent release, but I've listened to a lot of 80s throwback records and the songs on this album are some of the most successful attempts to recreate that synth-filled time-stamped sound. Of course the use of actual 80s production equipment helped the cause. It's authentically nostalgic from beginning to end. Concept throwback albums are hard to create let alone pull off. Glitter was unfortunately buried under all the negative press back then. It was also lead by a weak single, and both the critics and the public weren't having another product of Mariah's sampling formula which already was considered tired by the time Heartbreaker was released. Perhaps 2001 was too soon to recapture the 80s. Glitter was way ahead of its time. Even Kylie's great Body Language album wasn't that successful in 2003. Had this been released post 2005 as a standalone album and not as a soundtrack to a relatively bad movie, it would have garnered more appreciation and less of unwarranted scathing reviews. It's probably the worst musical case of bad luck coupled by even worse timing. Major ouch. But at least it paved the way for one of the most glorious comebacks in history.

General thoughts (45,263) by AnKo from Germany
First of all I wanna say hi to every out here. I am new to the messageboard. I really like the new Mariah record. I had to listen to it several times in order to get it, but that's how it feels with every new record of hers. I first didn't like MOAIA but then it became one of my favorites. The same goes with MIAM. I still don't like Faded and Supernatural but tracks like Cry., Dedicated, One more try or Meteorite are on the loop now. I really hope there is a video clip for YDKWTD coming out soon in order to promote the album. Personally, I don't like any speculations about what song might be about. I enjoy having my own thoughts and feelings about each song. You guys take care and have a good one.

YDKWTD and Tommy theories (45,262) by Victor from Costa Rica
First of all, thanks to Mike, James (Twiggy) and Shelly for your reply to my comment. And by the way, I'm not high. Hahahaha. Rashidi, interesting fact that you pointed out, so that means that this song was written or at least the concept came up at that time. As Shelly pointed out, I do think that The Art Of Letting Go is exclusively dedicated to Tommy, I guess Mariah finally feels free from his dominion, but it was very hard for her to move on after their marriage. There are several songs that evoque Tommy in every of her albums: Side Effects and Wish You Well (E=MC2), You Had Your Chance (Charmbracelet). Plus two themed videos of their story (It's Like That and We Belong Together). And let's not forget about the Larry King interview in 2009 when she talked about the violence in their marriage. I mean, it's not her fault, this guy tried to destroy her, of course he means a lot to her for good and bad. That's why I still think she cleverly put some hidden messages in their songs to not make things so evident. Of course the lyrics in YDKWYD goes "You love me more than you love sunny summer days". But I'm sure she meant it to sound that way to cover the "Sony summer days". Like reffering to her glory days with Tommy. She is married and has two beautiful kids. She can't continue openly talking about it because it will seem like if she was "laying in a ring not making a sound". Have a great day everybody.

The Art Of Letting Go (45,261) by Dove from USA
I think The Art Of Letting Go is about Tommy during the time Glitter came out and she had her break down. I think she's held on to that anger for a long time and she finally wants to let go but it ain't easy. Maybe he gave her that heart necklace she gave away on Valentine's Day and [...] it away is part of letting go.

Tommy (45,260) by Dove from USA
I think she saw Tommy as a father figure and someone who could take care of her and nurture her but I don't think he was the love of her life.
