Todd's playlist (45,259)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
Todd, I love your playlist. I love the Beautiful Ones. Not everyone gets it though, or has patience to wait for the build. I made one a few posts back, with commercial sounding songs to get a non-fan hooked. Then once they're hooked they can buy the albums and discover the treasures. I'm going to build my dream playlist tonight. Can't wait to read everyone else's.

Hey lambly. I'm new to the site. I'd love to chat to Mimi fans and hear what you all think of the elusive chanteuse. Also hear your Mariah stories. I've seen her live once in concert in Glasgow, Scotland. This was the Charmbraclet tour, amazing night. [...] Look forward to hearing your stories. I love Rob.

YDKWTD lyrics (45,255)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
If you watch the first episode of American Idol (the one where Mariah wore her pink dress) Mariah did quote that lyrics "You love me more than you love sunny summer days". That episode was recorded somewhere in September 2012. Just a little trivia.

If I'm not mistaken, she sings "You love me more than you love sunny summer days," so I don't think there's any reference to Tommy. I agree he's been a huge matter in Mariah's life, both good and bad, and it kinda inspires her from time to time (Petals, Side Effects, IWYW), but not this time.

by Todd from Melbourne, Australia

For a long drive I had over the weekend, I made a playlist of my own version of Mariah's Greatest Hits. I realised once I listened to it that they were all album cuts. What would yours be? Mine was made up of: Sent From Up Above And You Don't Remember Til The End of Time The Wind Never Forget You Everything Fades Away Melt Away Looking In The Beautiful Ones Petals Did I Do That Lead The Way Clown My Saving Grace Stay The Night Side Effects I Wish You Well Betcha Gon' Know When Christmas Comes One More Try That to me is a perfect MC compilation album.

So loving it. Nicely done. It has a vibe of 80s classic disco sound with modern touch. I hope this song really get to No.1 in the US Billboard Hot 100.

YDKWTD Lyrics (45,249)
by Victor from Costa Rica
| |
|
|
"You love me more than you love Sony summer days". I have always thougth Mariah didn't release the lyrics of the album because she doesn't want to explain the hidden messages in her songs. In my opinion, this song is dedicated to Tommy. Knowing Mariah, I'm pretty sure he is her biggest inspiration and the love of her life.

PJW and Nicky (45,246)
by THE TRUTH from USA

The "damage control" was simply changing the internal company narrative. You really should read more carefully before responding and obviously you would realize that perhaps someone who had an intimate relationship with Sony at that time is commenting. In any case, best of luck with all of that. This forum has too much emotional chatter for me.

I wish you well (45,245)

I was listening to "I wish you well today" and one line in particular really stuck out to me: "But let him without sin cast the first stone brethren but who remains standing then." It's meaning really applies to the stuff happening in the world today. I need lyrics like that for every album.

Mix tapes (45,244)
by Darryle from USA
| |
|
|
I just recently fell in love with mix tapes and thought what a great idea it would have been for Mariah to release one during the 5 years this album took. Nothing big just 3 or 4 tracks she's not using or something like that. It probably would've helped hold the fans over because we wouldn't have been sitting waiting for something to happen. I'd love for her to do a mix tape of re recorded demos just for the fans.

Mariah's heritage / the truth, Shelly, Nicki (45,243)
by PJW from The U.K.
| |
|
|
I don't think Shelly et al. are making a big deal of it, I think (with all due respect) the way you're writing could come across as offensive, more so because it's blatantly incorrect and people perceive negative statements without basis as hating. Your first post on the topic used a random story about a young, perhaps confused, child who doesn't fit into a racially hostile world as basis for an insinuation that she's always lied about her race. You went on to say she's been "anything but candid" about it and that the record company were doing "damage control" when they found out. As far as I'm aware she's never shut up about it. She's got songs about it. It's one of those topics I roll my eyes about when I hear it brought up again 24 years later. You then backed up your point with the defence that "before signing at Sony" she passed as white and then when she got her contract they had to change things up. So now they're doing damage control about someone who's not famous because of their perception of her race? Not only is this all hypothetical, but even if it's true it's contradictory within itself and with the actual evidence we have and thus comes across as across as negativity for the sake of it. I get you may have just come across it online but there's a million things. That doesn't validate them. And unfortunately when it comes to race (especially with the implications you're raising, consciously or not) the topic becomes that bit more delicate.

Re: truth it is not (45,242)

The problem for you is that most of us here have been around since day 1 and there wasn't a time where Mariah denied her heritage. Secondly, your comments alone prove you are not at all familiar with Mariah or her story. Otherwise, you'd be well aware of such things. Do you think mixed kids would describe watching their parents cars being blown up or their pets poisoned as "difficult"? Or does that pain change when you can "pass for white"? Other than you reading an article and trying to turn an instance of childhood into her life story; at what point did it prove the label didn't know of her heritage? More to the point why would it matter? Carmen Electra isn't black and she was rapping at that time. This white girl is coming out with an R&B album. Hold the presses, she's mixed. Damage control, damage control. Is that how it went down?

Alfred Roy and Mariah (45,241)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
The picture on my avatar has Mariah, her nephew Shawn, and Alfred Roy at the hospital. Mariah gave Alfred the sunflowers in the background. Those flowers were the only ones Alfred was not allergic to. Hence "Sunflowers for Alfred Roy", the song. Mariah has mentioned there was tension growing up in a broken home. Mariah was mending her relationship with her father at the end. To sit there and judge her, would be judging her pain. Honestly I don't know why some people leave messages here. They sound spiteful as if they have something against Mariah.

Music (45,240)
by S from

I'd love for Mariah to make a jazz inspired album in the future, she's already proven that she's more than capable of writing/singing that type of music (duet with Tony Bennett, The Wind, Christmas Time Is In The Air Again). Her voice really suits it and it doesn't require constant belting, and I actually think it could be succesful as far as sales. A lot of artists do well on the album charts when they release these types of records because it's such a timeless genre.

Shelly / Nicki / heritage (45,239)
by THE TRUTH from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah passed for whiteun till she got her deal at Sony. When her heritage was discovered by Sony, there was a mad scramble to come up with a solution and that was the whole Black/Irish/Latino story and "Hey, we can work the Latin market too." Initially everyone at Sony was talking about the white girl who sang like Whitney but then when the truth was disclosed, Sony had to change the internal corporate narrative as well. You guys are all making a big deal out of it, I was pretty much casually mentioning something I came across online which I discovered. No biggie really. Let's all just hope she can pull a rabbit out of a hat with her next single/video/tour/sugar drink and yes of course, we're all sending a prayer out to her father.

Happy songs (45,238)
by Dove from USA

To be fair, MIAM does have a lot of happy songs. Dedicated, #Beautiful, MILG, YDKWTD, Supernatural, Money, Heavenly, even Meteorite are happy. I long for a song with a strong bass guitar hook, like Tragic Kingdom, No Doubt stuff. Something you can bump in the car while going somewhere cool that makes you want to move.

If Mariah went on Fallon appearing humble and funny and sang YDKWTD (in Versace and Louboutins, of course) and premiered a sneak peak of an amazing video directed by Brett Ratner she could turn this around and score the hit she desperately needs. I have faith she's still able it's up to her. If JD or Mariah reads this blog they should follow this game plan. She needs Benny or a manger of his caliber. She's Mariah Carey. She's an icon. A living legend. Start appearing humble and grateful for your success and put more effort into your answers. Or only talk about the music. Keep your private life private like you did before you met Nick. By the way, keep Nick out of the studio, off of video/photo shoots, and make him shut up. He has tarnished America's sweeetheart by making silly comments and piggybacking off of her to increase his fame. He even told the world he slept with Kim Kardashian. No one knew that or needed to. You're married to Mariah Carey, she's one of the most beautiful women in the world and the best singer male or female of our time.
