Shelly (45,234) by RibbonB from USA
Yes, some people just want to be messy. Mariah's first TV interview was on Video Soul on Black Entertainment TV in the 90's and she clearly talked about her heritage. M clearly loves and misses her dad.

New album (45,233) by Dove from USA
The new album super satisfied my Mariah craving and I will be listening to it for years to come. But of course, like any other greedy fan, I'm already starting to think about the next one. I would like to hear Mariah sing happy songs that are full of life and make your soul soar. I feel like I've had my fix of sad songs and we need more hopeful happy ones that make us feel thankful to be alive. I know it's up to her and the way she's feeling. I just feel like everyone writes sad songs, and that's okay and good because when we're going through something sad those are the songs that help us get through it. But I'm ready to be happy again.

Donna Summer cover (45,232) by Dove from USA
I was watching Donna Summer's Behind The Music a few days ago and some of what she was saying reminded me of Mariah too. I'd never heard that song but it is fitting. Has Mariah ever remade a song by a woman? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

We miss you ARC pictures (45,231) by Dove from USA
I love the pictures she posted early this morning. Her face is radiant, beautiful, and happy, and her body looks amazing. I know I said before her breasts weren't looking that great lately but I take that back with these pictures. Nice touch with the sunflower for her dad.

Heritage (45,230) by Dove from USA
I remember reading an article in People Magazine from the 90s when her first album came out where she told the interviewer she was half black. When was she denying it? For as long as I've been a fan I've always known she was biracial.

My dream cover from Mariah would be... (45,229) by Panos from Greece

I think it's a beautiful and haunting masterpiece that summarises Donna Summer's life. It talks about being yourself and not someone else, a reflection in mirror. For those who don't know it, Casablanca records pushed her image, during disco era, into a more sexy one and she didn't like it. It says that behind the glamour there is pain and problems, but at the same time she doesn't want to let down those who expect things from her (first and foremost fans), something that Donna tried really hard to accomplish. It's a song from her last album before her death and says it all. I strongly believe that Mariah would turn this song into something like Vanishing (piano, simplicity and pureness, legendary vocals). She can make it better than the already beautiful original and she can own it. It connects with Mariah's past and present situation and is an autobiographical song.

Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse (45,228) by B from USA
At first I was disappointed that the lyrics weren't included. Now I understand it was a marketing ploy. Everytime someone listens to the album and thinks what did she say/sing/write on a ceartin song they look it up. Hoping she does release the lyrics like she said she was going to. I'm loving this album. You're Mine is not another We Belong Together, it sounds more like Don't Forget About Us. I don't understand why YM flopped, it's a great song. I disagree YM and Supernatural do not weigh the album down lyrically. This album is a lyrical masterpiece. Her last album that was as cohesive lyrically was Butterfly. Brillant. Mariah can turn this around. She's got an album loaded with potential singles.

Re: the truth (45,226) by Dove from USA
Most 3 year olds are mischievous. If that article is even true, it would make sense. All kids want to fit in. Kids can be cruel. When I was young, my parents had an old ugly truck that made a ton of noise and you could hear it blocks away. I would make my mom drop me off a block away around the corner so that nobody would see our car or my parents. My mom was pregnant and would wear matching pants and shirts that kids would say made her look like the Kool-Aid man. It sucked being singled out and teased.
But I outgrew it and can talk about it and laugh now because I am strong enough to accept myself and where we came from. It's probably the same with her. She embraced her heritage and from what I remember she and her dad were on good terms when he died. So what if she was embarrassed when she was young? Those were hard times and she was just trying to survive school.

Nicki (45,225) by THE TRUTH from USA
Relax and take a breath Nicki. Nobody was, "judging a child", but let's be honest with ourselves, she has been anything but candid about her, "difficulties growing up as a biracial child". I think most people of color would not call, "passing" a "difficulty". Acknowledging your heritage once the record company discovers it and has to do damage control is something else.

Oysters (45,223) by Marcel from Montréal, Canada
Her poisoning thing was in Atlanta after that date of her Rainbow tour. Some friends that went to that show told me she was acting so weird saying LM was in the audience when he was not and even told me "she was high talking nonsense and so husky" I didn't believe them. I went to her Boston like ten nights after instead of just a couple nights because she was hospitalized and it was a lot of time for dehydration. I kinda recall her Toronto date was postponed as well. It was a weird show but way better than her bizarre Charm date. But after 10-12 days of resting her voice sounded like if she'd been screaming for 5 hours drunk in a smokey night club. Her "tours" really affected her vocals even after her mini Music Box 6 dates tour she started showing problems. After the 6-7 Daydream it was even more notorious how her voice suffered but it was the Butterfly recordings when all those years pushing her voice trying to be a WH or CD something she wasn't in a sense (her voice was more beautiful but not as powercul) paid the bill mostly because during Butterfly she was partying so wildly while recording and whispering instead of singing. After Butterfly we all know what happened. Don't know if she did drugs but lotta alcohol and wild partying is enough. While Glitter it was clear MC was on something maybe the X, it was just so noticeably. Those many years of trashing your voice can't be repaired by no doctors. They aren't gods. Still she can make good recordings in the studio.

Re: the "truth" (45,222) by nikki from usa
Seems to be very muddled. First off, I don't know whether it's more pathetic or disgusting to judge a child and call her a liar. Mariah has been candid about the difficulties growing up as a bi racial child and the struggles with everyone wanting her to choose a side. How does anyone know anything about this? Oh, yeah she talked about it, that's how. Mariah never claimed to be close to her father. She kept in communication with him more after her divorce. She didn't fully reunite with him until his illness where I had no problem finding a picture of her, Shawn, and her father together. It included his favorite flowers: sunflowers. Which is the point of the song after all. Not that I'd expect anyone with Eminem as his icon to know what that's referring to. Alison has had no problem running to the tabloids for a quick buck feeding her pictures and stories. Mariah keeps her private moments private and will adorn her walls at home, not tabloid covers.

Picture of Mariah and her father (45,221) by Webmaster Eric from the Netherlands
There is a picture of Mariah and her father (left), but alas it is fake. They've taken a picture of Alfred Roy and Alison at Mariah's wedding (right) and Photoshopped Mariah's face on her sister's face.

Anniversary of Alfred Roy Carey's death (45,220) by THE TRUTH from USA
I found this online, first admission I've seen where she admits lying about her heritage. I couldn't find one picture of them together. "Mariah's relationship with her father was much more distant. First of all, he wanted to give her a very strict upbringing that didn't suit her mischievous character. Also, her parents divorced when she was only 3. For example, when Mariah hummed at the dinner table, her father would immediately tell her to keep quiet. Mariah would directly get up from the table and continue singing. Of course, it'd make her father angry. After the divorce, Alfred and Alison moved to Washington D.C. In the beginning, Mariah used to visit him quite often. Nevertheless, she recalls with embarrassment that she used to hide so that the other kids wouldn't see her with a black man. Mariah would tell them that her dark complexion was due to her Italian origins. Progressively, those visits became less frequent. Not that long ago, her father wasn't even aware of her success. He believed that she had only released one album thus far. For a laugh, Mariah and her mom would call it 'the album'. On July 4th 2002, Alfred Roy Carey lost his battle to cancer."

Stephen you beat me to it (45,219) by Manny from U.S.
I am listening to Fourth of July. Happy Fourth of July. After that, I will listen to all of Mariah's "America The Beautiful" performances. Maybe she should release a patriotic album. It'll include the "America the Beautiful" performances, Star-Spangled Banner (both of them), and when she performed for the troops.

Cover songs (45,218) by Warr-en-Peace from United States
I know Mariah has a fair amount of success with cover songs, especially in foreign markets. However, I cannot help but notice that she seems less connected with a cover song than with one that she personally writes. To me, while One More Try and Heavenly are absolutely amazing vocally, I feel Mariah could have easily written something that sampled each song instead of doing blatant covers. It's less likely she will have a hit song with a cover than with an original song that samples a classic. If you listen to Mary Mary sing Heavenly, you realize many of the melisma and belts that seem to be Mariah's doing are actually part of the original. This takes away from the song a little for me. Just an observation.

Lyrics (45,216) by Warr-en-Peace from United States
I think it's so funny how no one really ever agrees with what is the correct version of lyrics. I think Mariah often designs songs so that you hear what you want or need to hear. Take for instance Skydiving. I doubt anyone knows 100% correct lyrics and everyone disagrees on them. Unless Mariah releases a lyric booklet, we have no idea what they really are. Personally I like it, cause I can be listening to a 5-year-old song and find new lyrics. Like I had no idea until last year that Mariah said, "He's all up in my George Foreman" in Obsessed. Haha love it. PS Does anyone have an untagged Skydiving?

4th of July ritual (45,215) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
We Filipinos don't recognize July 4 as any special day, but what the heck - happy 4th of July. For the past 5 years, every time this day arrives, it's been a tradition for me to play my favorite song off Butterfly, Fourth Of July. I know, literal much? Haha. I'm corny that way. Recently, though, I've added a few of her songs that share the same dream-like, fantasy feel production and vibe-wise as a lead-in to the "main event". My mini 4th of July playlist goes like this:
Bliss
Yours
Supernatural (newly added)
Underneath The Stars
Fourth Of July
They all sound so great in such sequence. Mostly subdued vocals floating on clouds of vocal harmonies. Heaven.

"Attack of the killer oysters" (45,214) by Steve from USA
I remember that also but doubt that it was any type of cover up. It happened while she was in the middle of the Rainbow tour. She did a show while feeling ill, and went to the hospital right after the concert. She got better just in time to perform at Divas Live.

Cry lyrics (45,213) by Todd from Melbourne, Australia
I'm pretty sure those lyrics of Cry are "Imprudently, I left every cell in me so naked, somewhere at the core of you plays our song." Could be wrong. But I doubt it. Haha.

Clams poisoning (45,211) by Mike RC from Spain (45,212) by B from USA
Thanks, Mike for the info on the situation going on at the time between Mariah and Luis and his ex. Makes sense. After watching her sister struggle with addiction I highly doubt Mariah would use drugs. I know she drinks and makes references to marijuana in some songs like It's Like That. I think her vocal issues have been caused by age. Even with the vocal decline over the last decade she still has her voice. Her range seems the same. She can still reach high and low notes no other singer not even Whitney could. She's being bashed because of the way she dresses and the low sales, not her music. Critics have praised this album as a return to form. Saying that this returns her to her musical sweet spot.

Clams poisoning (45,211) by Mike RC from Spain
B from USA, yeah, I remember she had "clams poisoning" during Rainbow era, I think she was on promo tour in Asia. And I didn't know about Elisabeth Taylor using that to cover up a drug problem, but I always believed Mariah used that excuse because Luis Miguel was cheating on her. The day after the "clams poisoning" news, Luis Miguel was all over Spanish yellow press because she would have met his ex-girlfriend in Acapulco or something like that. I never liked him anyway.

Cry analysis (45,210) by B from USA
Cell: A body of persons forming a single unit. Imprudently, lacking discretion, boldly. She's talking about how she left behind a part of herself or lost a part of herself when the relationship was over. She jumped into a relationship knowing they both had flaws and issues and regrets how things played out. She also takes responsibility for her part. Hopefully that helps you understand those lyrics better. I know loooking the words up helped me. Bless our souls, is her way of asking God to help them both heal and move on.
