Cry analysis (45,210)
by B from USA

Cell: A body of persons forming a single unit. Imprudently, lacking discretion, boldly. She's talking about how she left behind a part of herself or lost a part of herself when the relationship was over. She jumped into a relationship knowing they both had flaws and issues and regrets how things played out. She also takes responsibility for her part. Hopefully that helps you understand those lyrics better. I know loooking the words up helped me. Bless our souls, is her way of asking God to help them both heal and move on.

I absolutely love this mix. I especially like the Ariana Grande interlude. "I will shut this shit down."

YDKWTD (45,206)
by Dove from USA

Just sharing my two cents for the video. I was watching Donna Summer behind the music and Hot Stuff came on - I think it was a live version. It made me think that YDKWTD needs to hit harder (drums) and the hand clapping noise needs to be taken out. I think a live band to play the song would be awesome. Her voice is strong and perfect she wouldn't need to re-sing it. For the video, I agree with the person that said 70s themed. The glittery mermaid dress would be totally appropriate in this case, maybe a gold one, but with a belt to cinch in her waist. The wild hair would even look good in a disco ball video. I'm seeing the video in this filter with the bright white light on her. Also, when I said it needs to hit harder, it may also be the base, not just the drums.

Butterfly drink (45,205)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
I finally bought the Butterfly drink and it's so good. I don't like pink lemonade, so I wasn't expecting to like it, but like someone else mentioned, it tastes more like a liquified ring pop. Even my son loved it. I was looking all over for a Walgreen's and got really excited when I found it. My son asked, "What's the big deal anyway?" I said, "Mariah Carey is my favorite celebrity, ever since I was a little girl - kind of like how you look up to John Cena." So I bought two and bought him the drink he usually buys. He tasted mine and wanted to trade because he said it was so good. But he didn't want anyone to see him drink it from a girly bottle. The bottle is really pretty and girl. I'm going to buy more later. It's not expensive either, I think they were $2 each or two for $3.

Elizabeth Taylor (45,204)
by B from USA

I read Elizabeth Taylor's bio and her PR team released a statement about food poisioning from clams or crab as a cover story for her overdose. Reading that made me think of Mariah during the Rainbow era. She even made a joke about attack of the killer crabs/clams at the Divas Live show. Does anyone else remember this?

Samuel / London fan meetup (45,203)

Not childish at all, would probably be better to do it over Facebook instead of irritating all the non-UK lambs in this messageboard with constant messages. I just didn't know we were allowed to give out our FB details here. I'm Martyn Hakan Hett for anyone interested in the meetup. You may need to follow me first as I think I turned friend requests off, then I can add you.

Okay... (45,202)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

It's true - Mariah just can't win in any way now, especially critically. Whatever she does or doesn't do, people will always find or even make up faults or stories to tear her apart. So while some see mass bullying on this board, I personally see tough love, and there's a clear difference between the two. For me, I make sure that for every "negative" opinion I post, I post about 1-2 "positive/neutral" ones (mostly about her music, because that's what it's ultimately all about) that aren't related to the current hot-button topics on this board to balance things out and break the ice a bit. I hope other fans rest assured that our criticism comes from a good place and not let that take away from the fact that we, like everyone here, love Mariah like a family member. We get hurt too when she gets trashed publicly especially for reasons that are petty or even worse, untrue. And while I agree that it's a great decision for her not to address most of this, as doing so would only make her seem defensive and even more insecure, what we mean when we suggest she should "change her ways" is for her to peek out of her protective bubble more and try to listen to what people are saying and examine herself based on those observations, as some of those are bound to be true, and she could take them as opportunities for growth. Right now, the only other thing other than great new music that's keeping her relatable is her focus on her family life which she generously shares through social media.

MOAIA and Rainbow (45,201)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
Mariah intended Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel to be Butterfly 2.0, which obviously didn't turn out to be the case. I remember a reviewer saying that it's a lot more like Rainbow instead. I do get his point. Even though released a decade apart, they do share several similarities: both albums were rushed, are underrated, have some painfully obvious filler (X-Girlfriend and More Than Just Friends), contain questionable interludes (Vulnerability and The Impossible (Reprise)), as well as interludes that should've been fleshed out as full songs (Rainbow, Languishing), includes covers of 80s #1 hits, feature a couple of deeply personal songs, and have songs that swipe people she doesn't like. Rainbow is often overlooked despite vital Mimi material (Heartbreaker, Can't Take That Away, Bliss, Crybaby, Petals, Thank God I Found You). MOAIA can't seem to shake off its association with its underwhelming performance despite great tracks (Betcha Gon' Know, H.A.T.E.U., Ribbon, Standing O, It's A Wrap, Angels Cry). Both albums are also sequenced perfectly to narrate great stories of love and heartbreak, although Rainbow ends happily while MOAIA finishes on a sad yet hopeful note. Personally, I like the former for its urban feel and high hit ratio while I also appreciate the latter's cohesiveness and R&B overload. Has anyone else also drawn such parallels between the two?

Mariah still not promoting (45,199)
by Ty from USA
| |
|
|
I smell a damn rat. I think Mariah is over this label. Whereas we have seen no Ellen, no View, no Fallon performance, no late night performance, a tv show where she looks bored to death. You work 4 years on a cd and let it die? You have the best reviews of your career and won't give your fans the live acoustic performance of Cry or the [...]. Again she's about to jump ship over with LA Reid. Sad though, because I love this cd and listen to it cover to cover.

This just might be the single that saves the album and the song of the summer. Everybody request. "Mimi's infectious Wale-assisted disco anthem is the third-most added song to urban radio this week, behind T.I. and Iggy Azalea's 'No Mediocre' and Mike WiLL Made-It's 'Buy The World'."

London lambs meet up (45,197)

This sounds really out of character and childish of me (lol), but I don't care. I've always liked Mariah and I want to meet some of her fans right here in London where I live. Let's make it happen. Add me on fb: Samuel Kalejaiye (I'm the black guy). Or alternatively, email me at: samtos@hotmail.co.uk. I'm thinking maybe sometime this month at a restaurant in cental London. Let's make it happen.

Divorce (45,195)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
I am so happy that Mariah is enjoying her babies. At first I was disappointed because the new album wasn't number 1, but the more I think about it, I don't care that much. She's already had lots of number 1s. She's won pretty much every award for music and broken many records. She should enjoy her family because that's the legacy that's most important. I am certain that she will always make music because she loves it. She's living the dream and I am so happy for her and proud of her. If the rumors are true that she and Nick are having problems, she could live in LA to support Nick in accomplishing his dream and the kids could have more space and swim in a real pool and see their dad. Counseling could help them. Whenever she feels inspired she can call people to write with her, improve her piano skills. Divorce makes me so sad. I wish I had not gotten divorced because it makes my son so sad.

It's hilarious how fans see things differently. I think Music Box is one of her most consistent albums. I can listen from beginning to end. I think Me. I am Mariah is her least consistent but her most experimental.

Hi Martyn that was a good remix of Prisoner, thanks for sharing. I love Prisoner so much. I always think it's a tragedy we only have this one instance of Mariah rapping in her entire catalogue. I long for a remix which is just "see ya later cuz" over and over again to a great beat.

Consistency (45,187)
by Danny Braden from Uk

What I love about Me. I am Mariah is the consistency of the quality. I always felt something lacking from TEOM that wasn't quite Mariah but a commercial move that was successful. It always seems when she compromises her artistry and makes something "less" her it's commercially successful. I think her weakest album (artistically, not vocally obviously) was Music Box. This is one of her best albums and Faded is a standout.

Done (45,184)
by G.G. from USA

So today is the day that the new single was sent to radio. I haven't heard about one radio or tv interview, appearances or performances to promote the single. I understand that if the label doesn't believe in the album and doesn't want to spend money promoting it that it will make it harder for an artists to be "seen", but there is no excuse for Mariah to at least do some interviews. This album is done, I'm afraid.
