I've figured it out! (42,054)

I agree with jaker20 in "TEOM era is her best image." What I've been missing from Mariah in this era is maturity. Her passion, poise and dedication were the gems of TEOM era. The eternally 12 thing, constant champagne sipping and over the top interviews are ridiculous for a living legend. When asked in a Breakfast Club interview about Ariana Grande you could tell she wasn't feeling the comparisons and gave a halfhearted wish of longevity to the general public without acknowledging her existence. Mariah has achieved success that will never be achieved again in this lifetime. Whether she agrees with the comparisons or not, she should at least acknowledge the girl's talent especially since she seems to be a devoted lamb, praising and acknowledging Mariah practically every time she's interviewed. Mariah is 43, Ariana is 20. This is what I mean by immaturity. By never acknowledging Ariana it makes it look like she sees a 20 year old as a threat. I wonder how Mariah would have felt if Whitney had shunned her when they were constantly being compared to each other. A grown woman can acknowledge someone else's talent without worrying about it diminishing their own. Some of the greats like Patti and Aretha have always acknowledged the younger generation's talent and guess what? It doesn't take away their legendary status because they talked about someone other than themselves.

Dear Edward, you're wrong when you say "Mariah has always been praised for being the best vocally trained singer of her generation." She is not a trained voice, she is a natural voice as well as Whitney was. I'd say that Celine is a trained voice and that is why she can keep her vocals running. I preffer natural singers, it feels more personal and soulful. Just saying.

She doesn't seem to love it anymore (42,051)
by Marissa from USA

In my opinion, this is the worst and weakest era in Mimi history. Every song she has released from 2012-2014 has been forgettable. I just don't think she has passion for music the way she used to and it shows. I think she's working because it's something to do rather than working out of a love of the craft. Lyrically her recent songs have been weak (what happened to words like inadvertently, indefinitely, and intrinsic being in her lyrics?). I just wish she would take more musical risks and really blow us away. #Beautiful, TALG and YME all sound very basic and safe and nowhere near the caliber of music a living legend should make. Songs like Migrate, We Belong Together and Fantasy really wake the fans and the charts up. I haven't been on here in a while so I'm trying to vent all of my feelings about this era. I also feel like Mariah is too predictable. I know that every other post on Instagram will be her doing something diva-esque, I know she's going to wear the same hairstyles and use the same terms in interviews like "bleak", "moments", "dahling", etc. I love MC, but I'm just bored. I am also sick of the diva persona being played in almost every interview. She's a living legend. All she has to do is relax and be herself. She made it to the top without the diva attitude so why she's using it now after she has already proven herself is unbeknownst to me. People have labelled Mariah as a diva since the 90s, but she didn't play into it until E=MC2 era. It was cute in the beginning but now it seems like almost every interview (except the one I've seen with Ralphie Aversa) she has been over the top. She is most interesting when she showcases her down to earth side instead of the persona people assume she is.

The "Angela" middle name has been used in a couple of sites I've seen before, however I am confused, because didn't Mariah say that Monroe doesn't have a middle name because she doesn't have one herself? I remember reading that in many articles after the name of Dem Babies were announced.

Too challenging for her now? (42,049)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah has always been praised for being the best vocally trained singer of her generation. She made sure that her songs were so technically challenging that they were impossible to sing by anybody else, that's why most people who attempted at singing songs that seem easy like "My All", failed miserably. Jessica Sanchez, first runner up to Phillip Phillips from American Idol, sung Whitney's "I Will Always Love You" hitting all notes perfectly, but when Randy and Jennifer Lopez picked "My All" for her to sing, she struggled with it. Jennifer even said: "I didn't know it was that difficult." Poor Mariah must feel tremendous pressure not being able to perform her own songs the way she only could, hence the constant lipping. Had she foreseen what was going to happen with her voice, I think she would've taken a different approach. I think there is "O Holy Night" and then there is Mariah's "O Holy Night". Everybody's attempt at singing this song ends up being compared to Mariah's version. Some don't even try it these days.

MC (42,048)

So seems like YME won't be promoted anymore by MC. She did her share of radio interviews but without major live performances not many people would know about it. It's sad, because I really enjoyed both versions of the song and thought it would at least be a top 10. I understand Mimi is busy with the album but I do hope she still releases an upbeat song before releasing the album. I'm eagerly waiting for some new MC vocals.

Middle name (42,047)
by Paul from Usa

I was browsing IMDB, they have Mariah's middle name as Angela. Am I the only fan that didn't know this? I didn't think she had a middle name. Also they have her listed on a bunch of shows under soundtracks. Is this because they featured her in the movie (a song of hers in the background)?

New album (42,046)
by G.G. from USA
| |
|
|
All I can say is that It's Like That wasn't a huge hit, but then we got The Emancipation Of Mimi. I agree with what others have said, I want some up-tempo numbers from Mariah. Like it or not, dance music is the in thing. MC can do R&B and still collaborate with some EDM or dance producers (not just on remixes). Avicii, David Guetta, Calvin Harris etc. I think all types of music can have soul/be soulful. It's time for some Pop recordings to get in the top 10 and get people (the general public) intrigued as to what the album is all about. Then she'll hook them with her amazing song writing skills and voice.

Forget the past, go for a new future (42,045)
by StrangePilot from USA

I understand why Mariah has chosen to do these latest round of songs. Ultimately, they are safe. Mariah's new music doesn't sounds new with the same big climax at the end. I love it, but it's been done so many times. An interesting direction would be if she decided to work with unknown indie producers. It's a really smart risk, and make Mariah more mesmerizing to those that aren't huge fans. In addition, Mariah should evaluate her current voice. Understand what she can do and not be afraid to showcase her new voice, even if it could be lower and more husky. It will always be a very interesting voice. She should also stop the nostalgia talk. Again, her voice is still great, but she's trying to do the same thing she did 20 years ago. I know Mariah's old songs. We all do. Concentrate on the future. Mariah also needs a modern style update. The boobs hanging out (although sexy) all the time is very tiring. And she needs to stop the "look at me" videos. A video that shows a story involving only other actors, or Mariah in the video as if she's telling a story could be cool. Or another crazy idea that she has never done before. Nothing that shows her always touching herself. I am a huge Mariah fan and always will be. What I would thoroughly respect about her as an artist is if she did a major "I'm not afraid of what you think" fun and unpredictable change in her career. That would make so many people more interested in her, buy her music, and watch her videos.

New album (42,043)
by David from Spain

I don't think about the new album. YME (the first single) is a flop, and it's very complicated that the album to be a hit, an album delayed 4 times. If Mariah wants to return to the #1 she has got to do an album like Butterfly. No one can advise her?

Two cents (42,042)

Hi everyone. So it's been a few weeks since I've posted anything but I have been reading everyone's comments and just taking everything in. Webmaster, well done with dealing with Issac in the manner you did. I too had run ins with him and I'm glad you've shown that there is a line to cross with this messageboard. Moving on, You're Mine has grown on me but to be honest I never usually had to let a Mariah song grow on me in the same way that this has, seriously forced myself to like it but had no real desire to re-listen to it as much as I did with her other releases. I don't think that bodes well for non fanatics. Other thing I wanted to mention was that maybe Ellen and the tonight shows aren't interested in having Mariah on performing the song. When a star starts to decline and there are more popular artists around, they might just not care. If Diana Ross came back with a new single, would she be rushed onto stage? Probably not. Really hopefully we get a stellar album from Mariah, keep the faith.

Mariah on a friend (42,040)
by Ryan from the Philippines
| |
|
|
Mariah recently twitted, "Been praying and singing for my friend today. With you here in spirit. Hebrews 11." If I am not overanalyzing, was she talking about the late Whitney Houston? If I am right, then the Whitney cover might be coming to reality. I just can't wait for it. And yes, I am also hungry for a pop uptempo song. Bring on "Thirsty" as the official lead single Mariah. Scrap #Beautiful, TAOLG and You're Mine for the mean time. Better rearrange it, remaster or re-sung (YM will sound good in acapella with a guitar) and save it for an album re-release.

#2's (42,036)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
I've equally been as baffled by the sings which didn't reach #1 in the UK as well. I'll Be There was constantly on the airwaves at the time, and Mariah did an absolutely stunning rendition of the song on Top of the Pops, almost acapella. Just her, the back up singers and a piano. Absolutely electric performance. AIWFCIY ended up being her biggest seller here in the UK and arguably her best known song here, but was kept off by the rather drab Stay Another Day by East 17. And then of course We Belong Together narrowly missed he top spot, such a disappointment as this would have been Mariah's first #1 here of her own hand.

I also believe this song is a slow burner. But it does need live performances. Where is Mariah? I understand she's finishing the album, but she needs to perform it to get it out there. The lambs can only do so much.

Lead The Way (42,034)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
If Mariah picked Lead The Way as the first single off her first project (Glitter) from her new label (Virgin Records), maybe she would score another number one hit single in 2001. Even after 13 years, I'm still disappointed that Mariah and her new label picked Loverboy as the first single from their big budget project. What were they thinking? There were other great songs from that album to be picked from, and yet they picked Loverboy. Lead The Way was the right song to be promoted as first single because the song showcased Mariah's range as well as her vocal technique. The video could be Mariah singing in the empty theatre with the background visuals of the scenes from the movie. Imagine how perfect that could be.

I do think it's a slow burner. I've always liked the song, and think non lambs seem to like it. Radio impressions are increasing with each day, albeit by a small amount. If Mariah went on Arsenio, Ellen, Fallon, and performed the song, it would do wonders for the song. Sidenote: it's great to see you back messaging on the website.

Mariah's Hot 100 number 2s (42,031)
by andy from philippines
| |
|
|
"Can't Let Go" went number 2 in 1991 kept from number 1 by "All 4 Love" by Color Me Badd. The label had taken the single off from sales before it could reach number 1. "Endless Love" peaked number 2 in 1994 being held back from the top position by Boyz II Men's "I'll Make Love to You". "Loverboy" managed to reach number two on the Hot 100 in 2001 with "Bootylicious" by Destiny's Child holding it back from the top position. "Shake It Off" reached number 2 in 2005 behind "We Belong Together" in 1 week and "Gold Digger" by Kanye in 6 weeks. Also "Without You" in 1994 and "I Know What You Want" in 2003 both went number 3 while "I Still Believe" remix in 1999 went number 4 and "Make It Happen" went number 5 in 1992. Imagine if any of these top 5 songs went number 1, Mariah will have 20+ number ones dethroning The Beatles in the top spot. Unfortunately it's not.

Mariah needs to write with Babyface. Never Forget You and Melt Away. Babyface's Everytime I Close My Eyes, espically the acapella version, which is the only three songs/times they've worked together. LA Reid is good friends with both of them. I think Mariah will sign with Epic Records which Reid runs. LA and Babyface were LAFACE Records.

That looks like many of the messages he has left for others on and around YouTube (search for him on YouTube). He goes around bashing everyone who says they don't like Mariah. He bashes other singers such as Beyoncé and when her fans bash him, he says the same rotten stuff "you don't have a life", "you don't have a job", yadda yadda yadda. Clearly he spends his days harassing people online. He needs to get a life. The only nice things he has to say to anyone is a hot guy, and he's basically just telling then how he'd like to seduce them. What a sad sad guy. Personally I'm very impressed with your work (webmaster Eric, right?). I'm happy you've continued to update this page over the last 16 years. I've been coming to this and only this Mariah fan sure all the years and hope to keep come back.
