Remixes (41,969)
by Mara from United States
| |
|
|
I was searching YouTube for something and came across this remix for I Only Wanted. Sounds like different vocals too. I never knew this existed. Does anyone know where it is from or if there are any other unknown remixes? Btw, wasn't Luis Miguel supposed to originally be on the non remix for I Only Wanted, or am I remembering incorrectly? Double album? (41,968)
by Bump from Greece
| |
|
|
It's been mentioned before but does anyone else think that we may be getting a double album? Maybe disc 1 is solo Mariah while disc 2 could be all the collaborations? I may be dreaming but it's not that far fetched. Over the last few years she's worked / rumored to have worked with Miguel, R.Kelly, Maxwell, Nas, Wale, Stevie Wonder, Usher, Mary J, Dream. Just a thought.

Why would MC work with people that have burned her or rubbed her the wrong way during the creative process in the past? Walter A knows he was wrong for taking 50% of "AIWFCIY" and if memory serves me correct Diane Warren really didn't want to collaborate. And they had creative differences. Thank God, MC and Walter fell out when they did because I wouldn't want the Butterfly album to sound any different. Seriously, who would've known so many people don't like Brandy or MikeWill's production quality. But any who, I know I wouldn't want to work with people that want to have more of a creative say so than me, the artist. MC is an R&B artist that just so happened to be a pop star (popular star). How do you think MC would've faired had she been the one to sing "Happy" the #1 song in the country? Just another thought, when MC said she hadn't heard "Drunk In Love", I believe her because when you're in a creative space listening to current records could lead you to jock and not even realize where the inspiration came from. Glad MC turns off the radio to create.

Secret plan: JT collaboration? / new single? (41,966)
by Antonio from Spain
| |
|
|
Yo lambily. Hope you're all well, send you lots of love. I honestly think Mariah has a secret plan, I think that something secret is behind the curtains. This whole rumoured colaboration with JT, and the [...] interview uploaded to her Vevo. JT is a star, a recognised true artist who deserves his success, and him working with MC would be perfection, man, the guy can sing. It's very likely that this won't happen, but one can only hope. I also think that whether or not it's a colaboration with JT [...], she's gonna release a new single soon, a more mainstream one, in the It's Like That vibe in order to boost the album. Love to you all.

by Isaac Ortiz from USA

I agree, and hope that Mariah did work and produced that song with Walter. She needs to start working with him again. "I'll still be around" sounds interesting. Now to Kenny. You're saying that anyone who is a fan of Justin Timberlake or likes his songs has bad taste in music? That's ridiculous. I'm a fan and have all his albums and songs on my phone. Guess I have bad taste then, lol. Justin is very talented and has probably one of the best male voices in music (my opinion). I don't see how you or anyone would find his voice annoying. The man can sing.

I know we're fans but I'm still obsessed with Brandy's "Two Eleven". You can have an amazing R&B album, and it's not gonna sell like hot cakes. I don't know if you all have Brandy's last album from 2012, Two Eleven. She worked with some of the people MC is currently working with and I'm excited. The MikeWill joint, "Do you know what you have?" is one of my top 5 on the album.

JT collab (41,963)
by Kenny from Canada
| |
|
|
Hell no to the JT collab ideas. JT is a douche who threw Janet Jackson under the bus during the whole Superbowl fiasco. He's a great entertainer and he's not bad to look at - true, but that's all there is to him. His voice is so annoyingly nasal and prepubescent that I find it hard to believe anyone can take his singing seriously. The taste in music that the lambs on this forum have are seriously questionable.

Where is Mariah recording last of album? (41,961)
by Me. I am Carly from USA
| |

Where is Mariah going in the latest picture anybody recognize the sign behind her, curious if she is in Capri now. BTW I am getting thumbs down for nothing, it doesn't even make sense what people are thumbing down for. Can we just have a thumbs up, anybody will know that if they get no likes that means no one likes the comment. The negativity of thumbs down is useless (giving myself 13 thumbs up).

Billboard review of You're Mine (Eternal) (41,958)
by B from USA
| |
|
|
For her latest attempt at a comeback single, Mariah Carey ditches the guest stars for a back-to-basics approach that finds the pop icon in familiar form. Riding a dreamy, midtempo beat from Rodney Jerkins, Carey pines for a lost love with lyrics that build to the inevitable five-octave melisma, echoing 2005 megahit "We Belong Together" and other past triumphs. Though Jerkins puts a romantic spin on the "ratchet" sound currently ruling the clubs (underlying calls of "Hey"). Like I said classic Carey. #Beautiful with Miguel and You're Mine (Eternal) and the May 6th release date have me excited.

I really enjoyed MC in the "Tanning of America" on VH1 last week. She has such great insight into things I'd never known before. Awesome documentary if you all ever get a chance to catch it. I just ordered the book and can't wait to read it.

by Lee from USA

In order to be inducted, it has to be 25 years since her first single. And then, it has to be a lot of politics involved. But she should be in there due to her stats being better than over 90% of the acts inducted.

Thoughts (41,955)

I love the way folks on here talk about MC as if they know her or have known her personally. I live for the way, even when the words come out of MC's mouth herself, her words fall on deaf ears because people seem too worried about the wrong things. I love the way people act like MC voice is torn to pieces and she'll never ever be commercially successful again or sing live. I love the way some people on this board seem to have no clue about the reality of anything in the music business but seem to have all the solutions. Try this on, MC is 44, the 90s are over and she has a right to make and create the types of things she wants to create, she's earned that, look at the stats. Even though this current era may not be your favorite so far, but why are you knocking her for being her and doing her job? No one on this earth is perfect. MC has been lipping and dubbing performances since 1995. Get over it. She's always been a studio artist, she has always said that is her comfort zone. Who is a more active "diva" in her 40s than MC? I'm just thankful that radio has embraced her and her singles. #Beautiful and YME. Even Triumphant got some radio play back in 2012. I personally don't hear 2000s when I hear YME. I don't hear WBT at all. YME is something totally different. And the remix with Trey Songz actually sounds organic. He actually, with those harmonies and adlibs put soul into this record.

You're Mine (41,954)

You're Mine (Eternal) is not another We Belong Together. The only similarities to We Belong Together is its production and piano-driven melody. I Stay In Love, Love Story, and Bye, Bye were all attempts to relive the splendor of We Belong Together.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (41,951)
by Darryle from USA

I know this is random but why hasn't Mariah been inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame yet? I think she should be. She's got the talent, she's set the records, and so much more. I know she's not very rock but she's done rock (Bringin' on the heartbreak, The one, and You need me). Also if Madonna and Run DMC are rock than so is Mariah.

Tbh I feel that Mariah's look has become more the focus then the music. Fire those yes men. Get a real team that will be honest with her. The quality of the songs lately are not up to par. But I bought it anyway.

He's a great artist, but his solo verses added nothing to the song. To me, they sound like they were written in 5 minutes and little thought was put into them. I also agree about the autotune thing, which is why I prefer the original version over the remix. I'm excited to hear the full version of the original on the abum.

Bill / Dreamlover (Bam Jam Soul Mix) (41,948)
by Eternal from Italy
| |
|
|
Thanks Bill for your post. I never knew of some of the things you wrote. I listened more attentively to the Bam Jam Soul Mix of Dreamlover. The lyrics and structure of the song are very similar to the version that eventually ended up on the album, but it's more sparse and I don't think it would have become such a huge hit if it weren't for the fact that they made it more pop-oriented. It's still a lovely version though. Lead The Way had such beautiful vocals, was the version on the Glitter album recorded back in 1997 then, and not 2001? I wonder if Mariah's current songs would have become bigger hits if she had better producers that worked on them, like what Walter did to her old songs. The production of YME, TAOLG and even Beautiful are sub-par IMHO. YME sounds dated, TAOLG sounds like a B-side of a single, and Beautiful was, indeed, beautiful but seems rushed and the ending abrupt. We all know Mariah's been involved with the production of her albums and songs since early in her career, but I honestly don't think that's her forte. She needs external expertise and opinion. Hopefully that rumoured song with Walter turns out to be true. I think she should give it a chance. Her career's at stake here.

Listen I am a fan and I want Mariah to do well vocally, and commercially as much as anybody. But it's kind of comical that some of you think we'll see an album May 6. In addition, clueyy, YME is a done deal. I'm sorry dude.

Duet with Toni Braxton? (41,945)
by Tory from Australia
| |
|
|
I remember reading an interview last year where Toni said she wanted to work with Mariah on her new album (which ultimately ended up being a joint project with Babyface). I love Toni's dramatic voice, her growls, moans, sighs, her mumbles. She has so much character and style in her voice. I would love to see that duet for Mariah's new album. Would it be Toni on low, Mariah on high or battle of the lower register? Lol I'd imagine they'd do a hybrid of Spanish Guitar/I Only Wanted.

Radio is still climbing, not flopping (41,944)
by nikki from usa
| |
|

I hate to break it to those of you crapping on this song, but it's not flopping, it's too soon to tell for that. MC has been releasing this in sections. Focused on the East coast one week, and the West the next. I wrote a post earlier upset that her label hasn't begun it's "push", they were supposed to do, and being in week 3 with MC "MIA". The record has been steadily climbing at radio so far - not declining. I wish she'd keep going. The only reason it charted week 1 is because lambs came out full force with downloads getting it to #11 on iTunes the first day. The rest of the world hasn't caught up yet. The Vevo views are steady at 1 million/week so far ("adds" is most added). You're Mine is #7 Top 40 Mainstream adds, #6 most spin increase at Top 40 Rhythmic, and #2 at Urban AC adds, Urban adds and Top 40 Rhythmic adds. Let's not count our chickens before they're hatched. Keep in mind, WBT took 7 weeks to get to its peak, #Beautiful took 9. February 12 - May 6 is 12 weeks. Perhaps there's a reason for a snail's pace? You'll notice she hasn't hit live tv shows yet.

Eduardo / MTV Unplugged II (41,943)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Eduardo, do you really think Mariah could handle another unplugged album? Let's be realistic, Mariah has been fully or partially lip-syncing many of her live performances for a long time now, and these have been mostly one-song performances. For her first unplugged album she was at her prime vocally. Her fluidity and range were impressive and effortless. There was no straining, gasping for air, problems with ear pieces, boobs, ass, or attitude, it was just a relatively new singer with her big voice and soul. An unplugged recording focuses on the voice, no filters, no layering, all songs in just one take, no piecemealed. In my opinion, another unplugged album would be the last nail on the coffin for her career. After this new album has run its course, she should focus on doing something to better the condition of her voice, and then maybe, but as of now, I doubt an unplugged would help her at all.
