Speaking on irrelevancy (40,814)
by Licia from USA

Isaac, your boy JT thought Mariah was irrelevant in the CB era and I bet he thinks the same thing now because she's not on top of the charts. I respect him as an artist, but he gives me douchebag vibes. We are going to always bring up that Yours remix because it was a great opportunity and as much as I think JT is a douchebag, I think he would have sounded nice on that song.

Have you ever listened to anything by Nas? Nas is one of the greatest rappers ever. His social awareness and lyrics make you think about things in a different way. In other words, he's a stinking beast on the mic. Look up any list of great rappers and I'm pretty sure Nas is high on the list. I'll just assume you have no idea who he is and that's why you are talking out your behind. Lol. Boo to Mariah and Justin Timberlake.

Girl please [...] Still on Mariah's fashion. Yawn. Peaceful Aquarium, Nas compared to Justin Timberlake. I can't believe people are still on the whole "Yours" remix track. Who cares? Justin is a very talented music artist. Who can actually sing? Who makes good music? I just hope Nas and MC's collaboration will top songs like "Sweetheart" ,"Say something" or "Get your number"? It has to.

What's the problem with Nas? Sure, he isn't as mainstream as Jay-Z, Kanye etc. But he is a legend and seems to be relevant enough for Mariah to be working with him again. Timberlake, really? He's another mediocre trend hopper that ditched Mariah during the Charmbracelet that suddenly wanted to collaborate in 2005. Eff him. Nas over him any day.

Nas is an amazing artist and a true hip hop legend. Within the hip hop community he will always be respected, and well thought of. His class is permanent. If Mariah is collaborating with rappers, he's exactly the kind of rapper she should collaborate with. He can bring something to her record that not many others can. If you need to see anything more recent, may I suggest you check out Cherry Wine, which is his collaboration with Amy Winehouse. That's the kind of thing record he and Mariah would be amazing on.

Webmaster / thanks (40,809)

Eric, thanks for reminding Mr. Know-it-all that Mariah is actually collaborating with Nas. Yes, as irrelevant as he may be, and according to Mariah and JD, it could be a potential single. See, one must read the news section here before posting ignorant comments. I will go listen to "Almost Home" now, pow! When it comes to good music, it is not about relevancy, it is about quality. At the end of the day that's what sticks with most people. Nas wasn't as relevant when the Making Last remix was released, yet his infusion took the track to a different level.

Oh my Carlos, that post was funny. Lol. On to the other big topic, Mariah needs an overhaul image makeover. She never left Long Island. That Sag Awards ensemble was her begging for a new stylist. Throughout her career, I had to look back because I had forgotten and wanted to just check/confirm. I was right, She's never been red carpet A++. I agree with the lamb down below who said he wants Mariah to do something "groovy" lol. I wish she had Blurred Lines beat first and wrote some amazing lyrics to it. I love her ballads but she hasn't given us something "funky" since "Fantasy". Oh and please, don't cover "You give good love".

Dream concert (40,807)

Vanishing (I love Mariah's more jazzy songs and think she's matured into that type artist, one that can crossover into that genre) Can't let go (one of my favorite songs from unplugged) If it's over (that SNL performance was the ultimate) Without you (I've never heard her perform it live, and I've seen her 3 times) Anytime you need a friend (she should work with full choirs more often, it really compliments her voice) Underneath the stars (another favorite I've never heard live) Always be my baby (crowd pleaser and she always has so much fun performing it) Melt away (just for the nostalgia) Butterfly (never heard it live, wonderful lyrics) Fourth of July (Underneath The Stars copy, but I love it) Can't take that away (she used to really get into this performance, she had Patti Labelle moments on stage during the Rainbow era) When you believe (Whitney tribute, also may be nice to here a Whitney cover, just the lonely talking again or you give good love) Never too far (I would like to see her embrace the Glitter album in live performance, I love this song) We belong together (duh) Mine again and Circles (never heard them live, wonderful songs) Fly like a bird (that Grammy performance was a knockout, I can always get into that type of performance, she really shined) I'm that chick (I thought it was a great song and her performance on MTV was fun and playful, like Mariah) It's a wrap (great song, playful lyrics, very Mariah)

Style / album title / Nas (40,806)
by Austin from USA
| |
|
|
I agree, Mariah's style is the least of worries. However, TEOM era was great for her look. She needs a management team that can generate a look and brand that is relevant to today. She got that with TEOM. She's always had less than interesting album titles until TEOM. I hope the title is just true to the vibe of the album. Nas is a legend among the hip hop community. Yes, he's no longer as popular as other artists, but he's a very creative artist and exactly the type of collaborator Mariah needs to work with in this stage of her career. I'm so exacted about new music. I can't wait!

Dream concert, new album title, etc. (40,805)
by Blake from USA
| |
|
|
I just wanted to mention that I can totally hear Trey Lorenz' "Always in love" in the melody of "Everything Fades away", anyone else think that? Regarding the new album title talk, I think it would be great if Mariah did a sub-self title "Mariah" and name it in honor of the lambily. I think it would be great do an album appreciating the fans thing like Fanmail by TLC, etc. My dream concert would be an exclusive lamb show, almost no singles for me. Assuming Mariah's voice is in good shape for the show and the set list would be: Prisoner If It's Over All I Ever Wanted Melt Away Breakdown Petals Lead The Way or If We I Only Wanted Circles Cruise Control or Migrate Side Effects Standing O Almost Home OK hopefully nobody goes off on my from my post. I been scared to post lately. Not much fighting/bickering on this board now.

How do you know Mariah collaborated with Nas? See: Mariah and Nas' collaboration is so good you'll "feel" it. Like really, Nas out of all the artists she picked him. Lol. I haven't heard from Nas since "Exactly". Why not someone better like my boy Justin Timberlake, Bruno, Usher. Nas has been irreverent for awhile now. I thought someone on here posted that Mariah did a track with Maxwell, called "Saturday love". Rumors,I tell you. I'll think I'll just wait for the official single. And when the album is released.

Mariah's hair (40,803)
by Isaac from USA
| |
|
|
Everyone suddenly went from discussing about the new album to now discussing about Mariah's hair, lol. Why? How she looks now is fine. The long hair in the "It's like that" video was great. But it probably takes too much to maintain. Or for whatever matter. She was 35 at the time. And how does the way she styles her hair have to do with the new album? I find it funny. It's like some of you want to style and dress her yourselves. Let Mariah look the way she wants to look. She'll always be beautiful. I just hope she never cuts it short like Beyonce. And now that I bring her up, did anyone watch the Grammy's last night? Ugh, it was terrible and boring. Miguel was there. And me and my friend agreed that Mariah should have been there. And had singed "Beautiful". That would have been the best performance of the show. Pink did good. But still, Mariah should have been there instead of Madonna [...]. And that marriage ceremony? Really, lol. What a flop that night was.

Tina / Mariah's new era image (40,800)
by Me. I am Carly from USA
| |
|

There is an article about Tina Turner talking about her comeback where Tina's voice is described as raspy. I think Mariah could be described the same way today. I really like the idea of seeing Mariah facing the age in her wonderfully campy, I am gonna do me kind of way. I have noticed that Mariah is wearing a lot of the black leather, very Tina. It would be good for her to really focus on the legs more like Tina too, so not so revealing but still cool and sexy.

Age / nothing but a number (40,798)
by Me. I am Carly from USA

What do you all think about a song or album with a defiant age edge? Like "Nothing but a number". Mariah is still doing very well next to female singers of her age (bothers me that men don't struggle to stay popular). With kids and trying to do it all, maybe we could get a ain't no superwoman type of so from Mariah. I can't remember who did that song. Would be hilarious to have Mariah just show how she has it. I think of the edge that Tina Turner had with her comeback in the eighties and think of Mariah having that kind of album maybe.

Mariah's hair is fine. It's her style that needs work. She needs a stylist like Rachel Zoe. During The Emancipation Of Mimi era she was styled by former Vogue editor and famed fashionista André Leon Talley and she looked classy. MC, hire Zoe or Talley for this new era!

Every time I read your postings, I give thanks that the internet offers potentiality of space for unlimited messages. If not, we'd really need to vote you off the message bored. It seems like you have a Mariah Carey "trivia" deck of cards in your hand and you are randomly selecting little pieces of information from each card and meshing it all together to construct an "incoherent" message to put on this board. Your levels of "delusion" are mesmerizing to me. "Almost Home was not right for Mariah's voice." Really? You make the most hysterical unsubstantial comments relative to her career. I guess we all have the right to our own opinions, be they ignorant or not but, wow... Lol.

Dedication new single? (40,793)

There is a new song title revealed. I wonder if it's the new single. I am ready. Ok, what songs do we know could potential be on the new album? "Dedication", "Bring it on home", "Hope street", "#Beautiful", "The art of letting go", "Almost home" (I wish), "Triumphant" (I wish for the vintage throwback non dance version).

Now a new color yes. I wouldn't mind jet black or just another natural hair color she's never had, but the length is already perfect. She should not cut it short, like ever.

Hair (40,790)
by Bill from the UK

Lol, due to the lack of music and noteworthy news, let's talk about her hair. I agree that the blonde look is tired now. I've never liked it as it never suited her skin tone. The dark, honey coloured, straightened look she was sporting post-separation (when she started with the mini skirts) was beautiful, especially with the earth toned make up she wore back then. She was sexy yet also classy and not too far removed from Music Box Mariah. Now it's like she's a totally different person entirely.

If you haven't been keeping up with the news, a new song is already on its way, with a release date (14th February). Mariah has already mentioned the album will be ready by late spring. There is no need to hate on "that guy" (Nick), he is the one that apparently makes Mariah happy and why blame him for the mess? Plus when did Mariah go full ghetto? She likes to add RnB flavors to her songs, and some of us like it. As far as reinventing goes, she did keep changing her style every now and then, so I really don't see what you mean. Go pull a Lady Gaga? Or Britney? It would be ridiculous, because then she'd be made fun of, like Madonna. I like that Mariah keeps it classy. She should tone the sexuality a little but other than that I really see no problems with her songs. They just don't get enough promotion, and that's why they don't chart well.
