The video / iTunes (41,225)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I love "You're Mine (Eternal)", but I don't dig the video. There are so many creative things Mariah could've done at El Yunque other than sitting down covering her breasts. El Yunque is incredibly beautiful, I've been there. She could've pulled a "My All" or "Butterfly" type of video. I'm hoping for the remix video to be in a different setting, since she said she couldn't bring Trey Songz to Puerto Rico. The song is going to drop on iTunes once the first couple of days fever have subsided, but it will pick up again the more people are exposed to it. I'm really praying for people to give Mariah a fair chance.

Song and video (41,224)
by Taylor from USA

|
The song has a catchy melody and that is the instant effect. It also serves as the main focus of the song because it's very repetitive. There is only one verse with the chorus starting at the beginning and repeated through the ending. The song definitely aims to hook and please. At first, the production feels a bit muddled and sporadic. Once each layer is listened to on its own, the overall effect is quite hypnotic. With that said, it doesn't have the breezy and smooth flow like most of the past songs. Rather the song has a staccato rhythm, which serves to bring a new sound. This is a new Mariah. The video has beautiful cinematography, but the concept is not very strong, at least how it comes across. It feels like there is a story here, but perhaps it got lost in the editing. A lot of the shots where Mariah just sits and cradles her breasts seem haphazard and gratuitous. Certain aspects of art direction and production seem shoddy like the small buddings of glittery wings. Why not make them bigger and bolder? Also the chair decorated with wines seems so out of place. Why is there a chair in the middle of a rainforest? Overall, the video doesn't serve the song well. Perhaps the remix video will be better.

You're Mine (41,223)

This is one of the most beautiful songs she has ever written. In terms of structure it is a little reminiscent of WBT, especially the breakdown at the end. But it doesn't sound like WBT or any other song she has written. This is fresh. Some fans aren't happy about the whispery parts. In my opinion they are the most emotive parts of this song as her voice blends with the sounds in the background. I must say I'm impressed with Rodney Jerkins too. I was beginning to think his glory days were long behind him, and then he does this song. Amazing. I don't care much for the video, except for the ending. I like its gloomy feel like her Butterfly era videos, and she makes a perfect mermaid. But there was no need to go topless. She could have done a lot more than simply trying to cover her bare breasts all the time. This could have been her moment to pull off Ariel in her underwater castle. Regardless, I can't imagine a better comeback song for her - a slow jam torch that sits perfectly with her current voice.

Radio interviews (41,222)
by Ms. Giselle from USA

Have any of you read what people are saying about them? It's horrible. I honestly don't think Mariah gets it nor hears about it. She needs to stop drinking. Sad truth is she doesn't do well anymore because of her diva ways/behavior than because of her music. Her music has always been good. The Duran interview, I actually liked what he said about AI but MC had a splash and couldn't answer it correctly. She was very similar to her drunk speech at the award show. I've been a fan over 20+ years, we all need to just enjoy the music and stop worrying about charts anymore. MC doesn't anymore so we shouldn't either. She has a drinking problem, I've said it many times.

Which do you prefer? (41,220)
by Darryle from USA

|
|
Which Mariah do you prefer? The reserved early 90 's Mariah, the slightly less reserved Mariah with a hint of diva from the late 90's or the full fledged unreserved diva that is Mariah today. I personally like the second one because I as a lamb get to see her personality (the diva) but she is still kinda reserved so when she does go diva it doesn't come off as conceited or stuck up. Even though I chose the second I accept Mariah just the way she is.

C'mon MC, another vanity video to add to your collection? We all know you're beautiful, but your videos scream out, "Whoa is me." Maybe your songs would chart higher if your videos were more creative. I still love the song and will be eternally a Lamb.

Great song, great hook, great production. In the same vein as WBT, but unlike Love Story and most of the ballads on E=MC2, it doesn't sound like a poor rip off. It updates the formula. I know the song was produced by Darkchild, but major shout out to Mariah for the production. It sounds like a Mariah Carey production and that impresses me a lot. So many people have always given credit to JD, and the various producers Mariah has worked with. However, irrespective of who she works with, when it comes to mid tempo ballads, they all have a certain feel, which can only be attributed to Mariah as producer, as the common denominator with these tracks. It highlights why she is the most successful female producer and songwriter of all time. Now on to the bad news, the video. It's a total non event. A snooze fest. What on Earth was she thinking? Another vanity video. Great, just what Mariah needs at this point. Ok, I don't want her to do a Gaga or Rihanna, but surely she can incorporate a decent storyline, especially with this song. It would be so easy to do. Hopefully, the remix has a video, which helps shape some kind of story. I think the record company may have put zero money into this campaign, which limits what Mariah can do to be fair. On a positive note, she and Trey looked all kinds of phyne.

My outpouring for Mariah Carey (41,217)
by Andry from Indonesia

Hi, Lambs. I'm happy to finally be able to join this forum after I just become a "careful reader" for years of the various aspirations of you guys against Mariah. Now, I feel I want to be a part of you. I hope we can all come together as "extended family" like how Mariah often refer to us that way. I know, if a message is too long it will not be published, so I'm trying as hard as possible to speak of what the outline of the statement I want to say. By the way, this week is a week full of surprises at a time, with the release of the new single "You're Mine (Eternal)" and everything associated with it. I do not have to respond to what I had with all this hysteria. But, I'm just a little feel something is not managed very well or as it should be, I mean, with the release of Mariah's singles that even to this day remains ambiguous for us all, which is the exact lead single off 3 singles so far from Mariah? It may not be a complicated issue, but, am I too "naive" if I want Mariah to be managed as she ought to? You should know what it all means.

Mariah's Your're Mine video (41,216)
by Gilles from Malta

Regarding the nudity, the first time that we saw Mariah almost naked it was in "My all" album version and especially in the remix "My all stay a while". The video is ok but they should have made the biggest wings on her back. There are a lot of symbols regarding the song. I would love to know when she wrote it and and the meaning of all the symbols as the gold powder, the wings that makes reference to Butterfly the song. And what is the meaning behind the lyrics, that song is a real mystery.

The only thing that I didn't get in the video was Trey Songz scenes. They just seemed out of place. I know she said in one of the interviews that she couldn't get him to Puerto Rico. Maybe they should have just left his scenes out and just put him in the remix video. Other than that everything else was cool. Doesn't make me like the song any less.

How are you you guys watching the video and what website? Everytime I find a link to the video like on MTV its says the video isn't allowed in my country (Japan). Is this happening to anyone else? (Webmaster: Yep, here in the Netherlands we also aren't allowed to watch the video.)

Nipple? (41,212)
by Orkun from The Netherlands

At the news section with the headline that says "A brief history of..." isn't that her nipple that I see on the left (her right side)? It's not an issue for me. But seriously, everything she does is the same for the last 7 years. [...] This saddens me. I'm a fan. [...] She said recently that belting all the time is boring. Well I'm sorry but so is whispering. All the time. I'm fed up by waiting for a climax to hear some singing. And the quality of lyrics and melodies go down. I truly wish she gets it together. She is a mess now. She lives in the succes of the past. Always trying to recreate a moment or song from the past. Beautiful is her best in years. The songs she wrote in the past 7 years are still We Belong Together replicas. So boring. I have lost faith in her. I'm sorry.

The YM video is pretty uneventful, a typical Mariah video with vanity shots and no plot. I would have loved to see her and Trey interacting and playing out the emotions of the song. I think Mariah could use a creative director as far as her visuals are concerned. Still a great song though, looking forward to hearing it performed live again.

So when I first heard the song I didn't really like it. I thought it was kind of boring. But now that I've listened to it more than once, I'm in love with it. That one note at the end, Mariah nailed that. My only worry is that after Valentine's Day the song will fade out or the public won't eat it up enough so that it reaches #1.

The song and the video (41,207)

So can I just say this again that I am in love with the song. It's so cute and mushy but deep at the same time. And the hook has been on my head all throughout the day. Ok now for the video, Mariah's makeup and hair was gorgeous. Simple yet oh-so-sexy. However, I wish for once she wouldn't sit throughout the whole video with one hand covering her chest, I mean I get it that she's a mermaid, but come on wear shell bikini or a glitter bikini MC. But ok I don't care, she looked great, the underwater shots were so beautiful. Her shots in the rainforest looked like a moving piece of art. And Trey looked so amazingly sexy. I was like come on it's a sin to be so hot.

You're Mine ( Eternal) (41,206)
by Manny from U.S.

Wow the song puts me in a hypnotic, starry-eyed, and trance-like state. The part where she sings "I can't seem to live without your love, and I just can't seem to give you up, you're mine" sounds hypnotic to me. The different textures of her background vocals and subtle sounds also send me into this hypnotic state. The lyrics are so relatable. When you love someone and you're not over it, you keep thinking they're yours. I still feel like that about an ex. Even though we might never get back together. The last note where she transites into the high note sounded so flawless. Like when you're playing strings on a musical keyboard and you play a note and then hit a note 1 1/2 octaves higher. The transition is so smooth and the ethereal. I hope the public enjoys it like us (Lambily). Mariah, you've done it again. You are a true artist!

This song is really taking off. There is already a cover by a brilliant up and coming artist. Please listen to the following video. I actually like the video. It's simple yet classy. As I understand, Mariah plays as a goddess (mermaid and butterfly) who fell in love with a guy from the city played by Trey. I disagree that it's another vanity video, it's actually so emotional.

Mimi released the main version of her music video via MTV today in over 100 different countries across the globe. Giving meaning to the name global superstar. The video was shot in the jungle with Mariah naked through out most the video. This is the best I have ever seen of Mariah in a music video. It very much reminds me of Ill Be Lovin U Long Time music video. As always Mariah looks flawless. The video is posted as of now exclusively by MTV online.

Song structure (41,201)
by enwar00 from usa

We all hear things differently so I literally may be the only person that feels this, but I'm loving how You're Mine has an interesting song structure. Like I thought the chorus was three different verses until I read the lyrics and realized it's the same lyrics she's just singing them differently. I just think it sounds so cool. Ok so that and how the hook is so contrasted with the chorus reminds me of Alone In Love. I always felt that Alone In Love was interesting because the choruses are so soft and then the verses are much louder and where it builds. Just thought I'd blab and share. Beause I'm excited. Beause I love it.

So I saw Mariah on MTV for the video debut. It was great seeing her. She looked beautiful and her hair was on point. But is it me or was she a little tipsy lol? She was in diva mode and I loved it. As for the song and video, I'm not crazy for the song. It's okay, but that's fine. The video was nice. Mariah looked great. I felt it completely. I personally think that she is saving the best for last, which is on the album.
