Umbrella man (36,438)

I must be the only person who finds that funny. I laughed my butt off when I saw those pics. Everyone knows Mariah can be over the top. She knows she can be over the top. Lol. I never take things like that seriously because I think she does it to get a reaction and to poke fun.

I remember that girl, I'll never forget her. Her name is Samantha Cole and she was Mariah's personal stalker. MC had a restraining order against her, Samantha even harassed her mother wanting Patricia to "teach her how to hit the high notes". She's the reason Mariah and Walter fell out, because he was dating her stalker. Cole was in the tabloids for almost 8 months talking about this feud she was having with Mariah until pictures started to show up of Mariah in other parts of the world while these so-called "confrontations" were happening. One of those "ice throwing" incidents (of which there were 3) Cole said happened at a nightclub in New York was the same night Mariah had posted pics up of herself in a recording session in LA with JD. Mariah's an Aries from Long Island, I have no doubt she's opinionated on how she wants things done in her own camp and pushing for her way, but I've never seen any "diva" behavior in a group setting where she's not the primary. I don't believe in this stuff that Mariah wants to be the only female either, because she could've had that as a clause in her contract if it was that important to her.

Minaj and umbrella man (36,436)
by Jamie from UK

I really hope this is a publicity stunt, otherwise Nicki has lost a lot of respect I still had for her. If it's real, what the hell did Mariah say to trigger such a response? Wow. I guess we'll just have to wait until January to see how this all started. That shit cray lol. I agree with whoever questioned Mariah's need of an umbrella man. So OTT. Even the Queen of England carries her own umbrella. Sometimes Mariah just takes her diva-ness too far, then she wonders why people think she's a snob.

Really? (36,435)

Wow, some of you are some kind of fans calling Mariah's children "funny looking". Not cool. But moving along, I was a fan of Nicki before this incident, but the way she conducted herself with MC turned me from high to completely off. Now had a video leak of her just simply checking Mariah in a classy manner or them just having a normal bicker then it would be no love or respect lost. Blowing up like that showed that whatever MC said got the best of her. But unless Mariah snatched her clown wig off and kicked one of her butt implants out, then her reaction was completely uncalled for.

American Idol (36,434)

This whole situation is entertaining to me. First of all, I didn't want MC to join because Idol is a sinking ship and I knew MC would be used as a scapegoat. Secondly, I can't see MC being disrespectful to Nicki Minaj's opinion. If she was signed as a judge, then the MC that has been presented to us for 20+ years would've been happy getting along with everyone. Of course, recently MC has done some things that have made us wonder if who she is is what we've been presented with (eternally 12 year olds don't get married). But that's a conversation for another time. I don't care what you guys think; the judges table needs Nicki Minaj for a younger demographic. This situation has interested people in the show in a way that wouldn't have been possible with just the new judges alone. Finally, I don't think MC should've called Barbara Walters. While I do believe Nicki Minaj said she would shoot MC if she had a gun, I'm sorry, I wouldn't take a cartoon rapper seriously. Especially since if now anything happens to MC or dem funny looking babies, Nicki and her camp would be immediately suspected. Calling Barbara and hiring extra security made MC seem like a drama queen, and the royal highness that Nicki said she was. This isn't a publicity stunt, but it isn't a predecessor to violence either. It was an argument that got out of control. I am sure FOX is loving this. And does MC really need someone to carry her umbrella? I wonder how much he gets paid?

Carla (36,433)

Hmmm. Have you read her autobiography and the story about how Mariah was throwing cubes of ice at that girl who had started working with Walter Afanasief? I'm not saying that's majorly disrespectful, but I do personally think that Mariah would have a bitchy side. I can also imagine she could be at times difficult to work with, but after being in the industry for so long and her knowing how it all works, I certainly don't blame her for that. No doubt she has learnt the hard way who she can and can't trust. I guess what I'm saying is that I can imagine she would be very high maintenance, regardless of how lovely she is and I think getting on her bad side could be trouble. I also got a tiny insight into what she may be like to work with when I personally saw her having a diva moment on the side of the stage in the dark at the Morocco concert. It was one of the highlights of the concert for me. Ha ha. So no, I certainly don't think Mariah deserved the comments made by Nicki Minaj, but I can imagine she could be difficult to work with.

Carla/petition (36,432)

Oh my goodness, if this petition gets viral and goes big, this is going to get hilarious. Carla, put this link on YouTube on the TMZ channel where you can find it with many views and put it on Facebook etc. This is going to be hilarious. I don't care if Nicki stays or not, it's just the fact it would be hilarious if many signed this and it hit the news. That would really make hilarious news. Nicki would be publicly insecure for life.

Still regarding Minaj (36,429)
by Carol from Spain
| |
|
|
In the 20 years of her career, I have never heard of Mariah being disrespectful. Of course, we can say we don't know everything about her life, but if she ever had a blow out like that with anyone, I believe it would have leaked. Now we see this barbie kinda puppet girl behave like that after being a few years in the industry. Who does she think she is? She is no diva and there aren't two divas on the panel. There is only one and her name is Mariah, not Minaj. I was completely shocked with the argument. Even if Mariah called a her a bitch, I believe people need to keep the high ground and behave. I can only judge what I see in the video and I only saw Mimi being a lady and to have manners. Did Nicky threaten her? Yes she di, I believe so. She says there are no cameras that filmed it. Well, maybe not, but if Mimi says it happened, I believe her. In Mariah Iies trust. Nicky is a nobody that no one will remember in a couple of years.

Other legends aren't nice, so why should Mimi be? (36,428)
by Lee from USA

Didn't Mimi earned the respect of other musicians and the public already? Aretha looks down upon younger artists all of the time and people still gives her respect. Madonna bullied Lady Gaga for years, and people respect her as a legend. KRS-One rips into other rappers at times yet nobody posted anything about it. But Mimi has to be nice? Really?

Let it go (36,427)
by Desiree from USA

People keep on talking about the feud, let it go. I like both artists and I see it from both angles. Mariah is a legend and should be treated with respect. Nicki is an upcoming artist who is on top of the charts now. Mariah can't always be the center of attention. I feel if you want respect, you must earn it. You just don't get it, because you're an legend.

Publicity stunt (36,426)
by Licia from USA
| |

I agree with Will. Nicki is a fool if she is willing to take all this backlash for ratings. She's already disliked. Why would she make it worse for herself? I'm going to be real upset if I find out that this is a stunt though. Lol. I also agree about the songwriting and producing. Of course we know all that she is capable of, but for whatever reason it's important for her to make sure the world knows what she is capable of. I agree that she should not have to prove herself anymore, but she has always had to go that extra mile to prove herself, even when she was at her very best.

Edward/publicity stunt? No (36,425)
by Will from England
| |
|
|
I think she only says it because she wants to emphasize the point that she does not consider herself a singer first, as she has always done. She categorizes her song writing and producer above that. Singing is what she's known for, but she wants to highlight that she's more than just a singer, especially with a show like American Idol, showing that she's bringing more things to the table rather than just saying "I stand there and sing Hero." Especially with Nicki on the table, who does write and produce her own stuff, Mariah doesn't want to feel as if Nicki is better than she is (which of course, we all know isn't true) and has more to bring to the show. To me, it's a warped version of "anything you can do, I've been doing for longer and can do it better". And this isn't a publicity stunt. Why? Let me explain. Why would anyone, in any job, agree to publicly humiliate and degrade themselves, just to get better ratings for a show? No one, no matter how much you're getting paid. It makes no sense at all for this to be a stunt. Remember in 2010 when Bruno dropped down butt naked onto Eminem at some award show? That's a stunt. This isn't. Nicki still has an marketing image to keep for her to remain viable in the industry and something like this (as it has done) has destroyed the barbie doll image and shown her for who she is behind the cameras: a disrespecting brat. If this was a stunt, then Nicki was an idiot to agree to it and deserves all the backlash she gets.

Even though I don't believe this is real, I have to admit that this is great hilarious entertainment. I love it. Just like what Bob said in his comment, lets just sit back and enjoy the show. Mariah was here to entertain us in any form or fashion. She can still do this and keep her dignity. Like someone said, it reminds you of them reality TV shows. Even though this is entertainment, sadly it's only benefiting Mariah. Nicki is recieving no love lol. If she is, it's like 1/8 out of every 100th comment. Ha!

Whoa, Mariah/Nicki Garbaj fued (36,422)
by CDC from CA
| |
|
|
This has escalated to new heights. Many are wondering what instigated the blow out, and I've come up with a theory. I've read that the fight began over the disagreement over a contestant, specifically whether he or she would fit into what is "popular on the charts". Mariah says it won't make it, Nicki disagrees, then Mariah retaliates by referencing her achievement as being the artist with most number one hits in the country (hence, "running down her resume every five minutes"). Perhaps she said that Nicki, having never seen the top of the Billboard Hot 100, was "inadequate" to make comments about music charts. Thus was ignited the firestorm that is Nicki Minaj's mouth. Again, all this a theory. We all share a great admiration for Mariah, but you have to admit that Mariah's ego is through the roof, as it should be. She has career statistics that would make even Peyton Manning and Tom Brady genuflect in her presence. Mariah is by a wide margin one of the most famous, celebrated and powerful artists in pop music; but above all that, she is a master media manipulator. I can see her brilliant agenda. Evidence proves she never wanted another female (let alone one who is more flamboyant) on the panel, and the way she's conducting herself throughout this episode has the world on her side. Aside from the large gathering of celebrity support for Mariah on twitter, she had Barbara Walters talk down about Nicki Minaj as if she were OJ Simpson. Can it get any worse for Nicki? We'll see. Mariah was once married to the CEO and chairman of one of the biggest record labels in the world, so undoubtedly she's pocketed some cunning tricks through the years. She wants Nicki out of Idol, and after that twitter rant, she probably wants her out of the industry. I don't expect anyone to have even a flash of a memory of Nicki Minaj this time next year. Bubbling under the surface of butterflies and rainbows is a woman as cold, cunning and ruthless as an Elizabethan courtier. This makes me like her a lot more. Well played, Mariah.

Mariah's hanging out with JD too much (36,421)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I'll always have Mariah's back, but it bothers me the fact that when you see her these days, she has to sound like JD all over people's records, regurgitating the same "I'm a song writer, I'm a producer, I'm a singer" statements. We know Mariah's a song writer, producer, vocalist, a true artist. Why does she have to say it every time she has the chance, specifically when talking about anything related to American Idol? She doesn't have anything to prove, her legacy is there. She sounds desperate every time she does that, it actually bothers me. Mariah's demeanor on the show and on the last few interviews has come across somewhat pretentious, pedantic. I think that Mariah had a beautiful demeanor when she was in her hey days. Now the diva attitude truly gets on my nerves.

So Nicki is crying about Mimi's "lying" about death threats. Why would she lie to anyone? First, Nicki has a track record of disrespect and tirades. If you all don't believe me, ask Mo'Nique (and a whole lot of DJs and other rappers) and watch that "My Time Is Now" documentary. Then, she goes on Twitter ranting and raving about it. RIP Nicki Minaj's career 2009-2013.

The Minaj situation (36,418)
by Anthony Carey from U.K

Well keeping this short and sweet, I agree with a earlier post regarding people seem to all be backing Mariah, the public have come out in support which is actually really nice to see. With regards to the other silly looser Minaj, I just think she is a jumped up nobody. Yes, she is popular at the moment, but erm reality check, she aint no legacy in the making, is she? Idol need to just get rid of the trash and move on. Petition lambs perhaps? LYM

Actually, I do remember Bedrock - that was a big one in '09. But, Nicki wasn't even mentioned on the track because she had a 10 second cameo - it just says ft. lloyd. Kinda like Ashanti was backup for Ja Rule with "Always on time" and she did eventually become big for awhile, but then there are people like Olivia from 50cents Candy Shop and has anyone heard from her since? That's why I didn't count that - it was too small and there was no name mention on the track. On Mariah's it was more of a duet and MC's fanbase reaches a larger demographic. Nicki got lots of face time, name mention, and a few months later Nicki's first song came out. Boards were ablaze with, "hey, that's the girl from the Mariah video" - it was a good stepping stone. According to the TMZ transcript, Nicki was bent outta shape because Mariah keeps talking about her resume. Which is why I think this is staged because if you've only been out a couple years, why would you be dogging a legend for bringing up her experience? I can't imagine Christina screaming at Aretha Franklin. And over the possible talent of a contestant? I think this is staged, it's just too stupid.

Feud transcript error (36,416)

I regret to admit I was excited to hear that Mariah called someone the "b word" because she is always so composed and it was just never see that side. But, listening to the audio, that's not what she said. I hear "I can't see my kids because you decided to have a little baby fit." It's "baby fit" not "crazy b*tch". Her composure ruled again. Good for her. Bad for my interest in drama.

I just wanted to comment on your post. I agree with some of what you said. Even I couldn't understand what Nicki was saying, even if I play and watch it 100x. But I have to correct you on one thing though. Mariah wasn't the one who introduced Nicki to the mass. She was featured on a song called "Bedrock" by Young Money along with Lil' Wayne which reached no. 2 on Hot 100 way before OFMF was filmed. Though Nicki looked crazy on the video, there has to be some sort of reason for it. We only got to see her bust out curse words after curse words and didn't see the beginning of it. Maybe Mariah said something smart or maybe not, we will never know this. Also whether this was staged or not, it sure got some attention from the media.

The feud is good for Mariah? (36,414)
by Will from England

|
|
I think this could have a positive spin on it from Mariah's point of view. Reading some of the articles (many of them), it would seem that the general public is on Mariah's side. People who are not fans of her type of music are speaking out and supporting Mariah. Because, for once, there is an actual video of the incident in question, and not something generated by the rumor mills, which could easily be fabricated and twisted to make Mariah look bad. In this case, we have a clear idea of what is going on behind the cameras. True, it isn't the whole picture, but none the less, it's an idea. People are, once again, being reminded of what Mariah stands for as an artist, along with her talent and longevity, compared to Nicki. Whatever you say about Mariah being on Idol, in the long run, especially with an album on the way, this could play to her advantage in a massive way. She's getting the recognition she deserves.

If Mariah said something out of line, then she was wrong and I do believe she said something, but Nicki handled the situation badly. She made herself look really bad with all the cursing and yelling. She could have defended herself like an adult, but instead she threw a tantrum and she made herself look like a fool.
