One Sweet Day - about AIDS epidemic (88,313)
by MC1989 from Spain
| |
|
|
Does anyone know if Mariah did ever spoke about this song being about the AIDS epidemic? I do know that she dedicated the song to her friend and collaborator David Cole, who, as many people between the early 80's and the mid 90's, died of AIDS, among other causes because of governments' negligence and lack of responses (by the way, if you didn't, you must watch "The Normal Heart", which tells the story of the gay activist Larry Kramer).
All I could find in Wikipedia is this: "(...) After they began working on the song, Carey began to incorporate other lyrics into the chorus, trying to make the song relatable to the AIDS epidemic that was in full force in the mid-1990s." "Carey has stated that she wrote the song hoping that all her fans that have lost someone could relate to One Sweet Day and maybe help ease the pain of the loss. Carey described the song as "[the] whole idea of when you lose people that are close to you, it changes your life and changes our perspective".
But I wanted to know if there is an interview or whatever where Mariah specifically adresses the terrible AIDS epidemic. Thank you.

I wish we could all get along like we used to in middle school. I wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy.

You referred about the full content of a post that wasn't directed at you and that you didn't read because l don't exist to you. If that isn't the epitome of insanity, I don't know what is. And stop trying to play the bipolar victim card. Just don't talk about posts you don't read, it kind of makes you cuckoo-for-cocoa-puffs. I'm starting to think you and Vicky are one and the same.

Victoria, when certain members of this message board reply to you or submit a message to you or about you don't read it. Pretend he or she doesn't exist, that's what I did when I read his response to your message. It was a poor attempt to shade you (and me which he'd deny if he was called out on it) but he doesn't exist to me and isn't even worthy of a slick reply. As Mariah once said, "I don't hear you, I don't see you, you don't exist to me."

You got to see her at a really good moment. I wish I would have been able to see Daydream live. CB tour will always be number one because that was my very first time ever seeing her live. She was still in a good place vocally imo at that time. Caution is only number 2 over TEOM because I feel she actually sang more than she lipped on this tour than she did on TEOM.

Andrew. Welcome back. Although your insight may have been harsh at times I must say that you were rarely incorrect. I think you love the same 1993-1994 Mariah that I fell in love with. She was perfection then and it is so hard let that go.

I might have to check out the Caution tour after all lol. I really like how MC got creative with the set list giving us all a little bit of something instead of the same set list she does all of the time. Hopefully she adds different songs as the tour progresses but if not I am content with the current set list for this tour outing.

Before the tour began I begged Mariah in a tweet do to do a medley of My All, After Tonight, and I Only Wanted. Maybe one day she'll do it.

Addition to setlist (88,299)

Hey guys, just want to say how glad I am that M changed up the setlist and did some interesting things such as a the disco remix of Emotions. So so dope. I would love for to add an acoustic medley and do songs like "I don't want to cry", "My all", "After tonight", "I only wanted", "Beautiful", "Clown" and even do "Hero" in a singer songwriter way in acoustic form. It would show more depth to some of her introspective songs. What do you guys think?

How did the Caution tour rank by comparison to your others Licia? I've only seen Mariah twice, at the Daydream and Rainbow tours in London. I sort of don't mind that I'm too poor to ever see her as the fact I was at the Daydream tour during her absolute prime is one of my most treasured memories from my whole life.

That's just factually inaccurate. The experience may be different, but the quality is definitely not better. Have you tried watching a DVD on a 4K TV?

You and Andrew should get a room already. You totally have a crush on him, it's like you're on a constant drooling and sweating all over every time he comes around. Victoria, you don't seem have a "secret" anymore. Vicky and Andy would look very nice "emblazoned" on a doormat. I forgot my meds again.

I was honestly hoping he wasn't there. I was so far away I couldn't tell whether he was there or not anyway. From where I was sitting all the dancers looked like dancing raisins. Lol. This was my 3rd time seeing her. I saw her for the CB tour and TEOM tour.

Mariah should release her shows on DVD (88,292)

We wish Mariah would release all her tours on DVD/Blu-ray. Since she doesn't, there are fans around the world who put together footage and release it from fans to fans.
I saw this one and am truly surprised by the quality. It really looks professional. For more fans like this.

I just agree so much with you. Streaming is not the same as having the CD or DVD. The quality is much better in physical formats than on Netflix or Spotify. I just hope she will release some of her old concerts etcetera. I went to the Paris concert on the Charmbracelet tour. I remember they filmed it, and that it was supposed to be released on DVD. I just don't remember why it never happened. One of my friends is a huge fan of Madonna and she does release a lot of stuff for her fans. I know he is very satisfied with those releases. There's just so nice to play a concert from a to b. Mariah, do it. Please.
