Mariah's music has always been consistent. Or has been since 1997 when she was finally able to make the music she wanted to make.

Re: #1 still going the distance (86,510) (86,517) by B from USA
The verses are shady and the choruses are empowering. Very disjointed. However, I've always liked and still do. The video will always have a place in my heart since I'm in it. Never in a million years did I think I'd be in a Mariah Carey video but I am.

Caution #5 (86,515) by enwar00 from usa
#5 debut on Billboard. I read this is her 18th top 10 album on the U.S. charts. It's crazy to think that. What an amazing career.

Wow ok Edward so I guess only ghetto hood people listen to Hip Hop. 75 % of Hip Hop consumers are white folks. Facts. I don't understand why folks are saying Mariah is a wanna be ghetto hood person. Half of y'all probably never been to a real ghetto and believe it or not, not ever damn body in the ghetto listens to Hip Hop. So Edward, do you feel the same way about Ariana Grande, Thaila, Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, or any other artist that incorporates Hip Hop into their music? The way some of y'all talk you would think Mariah got a damn grill in her mouth.

Album sales (86,513) by Robby from Chicago USA
Of course I am a bit disappointed of the figures despite of her effort to reach out to different demographics but hey, what can we do? We can only support her as much as we could. I bought a physical CD, I constantly stream it on Spotify, and bought it as well from iTunes, posted it on my FB and encouraged my non-Mariah friends to check-out the album and that's about it. I dunno what else to do. I supported the album the best way and every possible way that I could. Anyway, while she doesn't have to sell as much as she used to because she has not nothing to prove anymore but at the end of the day, the label will still require some return of investment and not being able to get that on this album may jeopardize their support from here on. But anyway, let us just celebrate the album for its entirety and we should be proud that after all these years, she can still provide us music that will stand the test of time. Cheers.

Re: Lambs vs reality (86,505) (86,512) by B from USA
Again, why do you even follow Mariah or come here? The reality is Caution did indeed sell more than was expected and it isn't just the lambs that are praising the album.

Re: Mariah sales (86,497) (86,511) by Edward from USA
Barbra Streisand has always had loyal fans that support her, but because she's always been consistent and they've never felt alienated by her. We don't really know what kind of artist Mariah is anymore, I actually take her as-is, not expectations, less disappointments. She lost a whole chunk of her fan base when she went full-blown hood-ghetto wannabe, the other chunk she lost with her diva antics and crazy behavior. Barbra fans are not toddlers or teens, but Mariah seems to be catering to 12-21 year olds. It is actually amazing she still can pull 50K albums considering that in the past few years, she's been in the limelight for her failed lipping, questionable behavior and a crazy reality TV show. As I said before, fans alone won't take Mariah's music anywhere, if the general public doesn't connect to her and her music, it's a big fat wrap. It's a good thing that damage control has been set in place for a while now, but it will take time for people to actually acclimate to her again, it's what happened with TEOM, but the music was crazy good back then and the money was rolling in. Caution is a good album, short and sweet. Yes, it's not classic Mariah at all, but it's a good album nonetheless. We all wanted Mariah to produce songs she could sing live, but I thought she would at least go all out on some of the songs. She never really raise her voice on any of the songs and the second part turns into a boring fest. Runway is actually the only song in the album on which Mariah's voice sounds as good as anything on E=MC2, but she decided not to put it in the album. It's a good thing I got my hands on it, because it's an excellent album closer for me, at least it pleasantly wakes me up at the end if I fall asleep from "The Distance" on.

#1 still going the distance (86,510) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Just a thought: The Distance would have been the perfect song to close out #1 to Infinity album, rather then Infinity. The message and vibe of The Distance would have been a perfect closer and thank you to the fans for the support that gave her 18 #1s. I do like Infiniy, and listen to it regularly, however the celebratory sound and intrumentation of Infinity has never lined up with the diss lyrics imo. The flow from Touch My Body into The Distance would have been smooth, and The Distance's characteristics are more inline with the vibe the first 18 tracks set up. Rename the album "#1: Still Going the Distance". Just a thought for fun.

Article: Mariah Carey "Caution" 50 thousand isn't bad (86,509) by Stefan from Germany
There is a Berlin radio station - Peli One - which is playing "With You" and "The Distance" once or twice a day. So even today there are great radio stations with excellent choice of music. By the way, I love the album.

Sales (86,508) by Liz Archer from Sweden
Honestly, I don't think people buy CDs anymore. It's all about listening to Spotify or iTunes.

Where you been girl? I kind of miss the "crazy" Mariah though. Ah wait, I take that back no I don't. . Anyways I was shopping at Target and Caution was sold out. The manager told me they didn't order that much because they weren't sure what the demand would be.

Lambs vs reality (86,505) by Andrew from UK
Lambs: "Caution is brilliant and going to sell millions and be number one." Reality: "Sorry, lambs, Caution is average at best and hardly anyone bought it." Lambs: "It doesn't matter she doesn't need to sell it, it's a great body of work and she has nothing to prove." Reality: *smacks forehead*

Excellent observation about Cher's album being an album of Abba cover songs tied a hit film. If it wasn't it wouldn't have sold as well.

I agree MusicFan1. The general public don't follow her like we do and if we her fans were not resonating with her during the last few years, you can be sure the public wasn't. Considering where she was a year ago, her team has done amazing. People don't just automatically start to hang out with you again after the kind of backlash she had. It takes time and consistency for that. Nice to see "Caution" get some attention. I just love it.

GML has become my new favorite on the album. The whiole "CD" has been on repeat since release. It feels like what Memoirs should have been.

This song is everything. The last minute is magical. I love the guitar and her high notes so much. "Giving me life" is from the beginning to end a masterpiece. I wonder about who she is singing. Maybe it's just her perfect imagination. I can't get enough of this one. It has this cool roof vibe but even "deeper". Pure genius Mariah.

Are you sure that there are still 100,000 lambs/fans in the US? I'm not sure. It seems to me that they don't have to paint that wagon anymore. They need to build a new one, because her fans seems to be falling off. I guess the wind isn't called Mariah at the moment.

Re: Mariah sales (86,485) (86,497) by Shezz from Pk
I remember Barb[e]ra Streisand had an album out around Memoirs or MIAMTEC and she sold a whole lot more first week and got a number 1 album. However, this time her album that was released a week or two ago sold around 30k only. Cher's high first week sales was an anomaly for a legacy artist and interest in her album was boosted by the Mamma Mia movie. I don't think promotion or roll out made much of an impact on the sales of Caution. A hit single would have helped sales. Remember TEOM was released off the heels of two hit singles and Touch My Body, the record breaking number one propelled E=MC2 sales. No songs from Caution manages to crack the top 100. All things considered, these sales figures are pretty decent for Mimi.

Re: Mariah sales (86,485) (86,496) by MusicfanJ from Germany
"I think some fans were probably disconnected after the last couple of years."

I think the same. And the general public has problems with her image, "the over-the-top diva". Last year was the only time I really wasn't able to recognize Mariah at all. And I'm a fan since 95. I mean we fans know her diva playing and humor. But what was going on a year ago, was just shocking. Mariah looks so much better and healthier now. Everything changed in a positive way since then. So I'm a bit surprised of the sales too. Anyway I love "Caution". It just gets better by every listen.

That's true. I like Cher a lot. I love when they are playing her hits on the radio. Always feel good songs.
