Re: The Distance (85,061) (85,065) by Timothy from USA
Look at you, Andrew. That was nice dude.

I believe Mariah and/or her team do read this board from time to time and probably check for your posts specifically. Roc Nation would not be doing their job if they didn't. The fact that you even are making the effort to be middle of the road is in itself a sign that this is going to be a great era.

Reading your posts and knowing people personally that suffer from bipolar disorder, my concern over the last few years is never with what you say (because that is your right, within reason and decency), but how that would sound to a terminally insecure individual who idolizes a woman that committed suicide. In the back of my mind I have dreaded that something tragic would happen and Trey, JD or someone else's word we trust would inform the world that the last thing she was looking at was this board. That may seem like a strong thing to type but words have power, especially the well written ones. You love Mariah obviously or you would not be here. Let's just know who she is what she will always struggle with at her core and accept the likelihood that she does check the oldest board out there and we may be or are a major apart of her stage anxiety and fear of being less than perfect.

Looking forward to productive exchanges with you.

Re: Hello Tim: The Distance (85,050) (85,064) by Timothy from USA
Thanks Tevin. On another note, I think all of us should consider that in 2018 the standard GMA/Today Show Friday Concert Series, morning chat with Kelly Rippa, laugh with Ellen in the afternoon and late show jam fest only go so far to reach the millennial pop culture masses. Today, it’s about using strategies that are out of the box and heavy on social media that Roc Nation can handle from wherever in the world she is. Remember that she (and anyone else on a normal non competitive week) only needs to reach 75-80k for a number 1 album and the singles charts are streaming heavy which is why the promotional push has been about warming up the buzz from a small flame to a bonfire. Roc Nation is putting their efforts into creating a sleeper word of mouth hit which at first feels backwards for an established artist but actually is genius for an artist without a top ten hit in 10 years.

I really hoped she was going to perform at the Beacon this year, but it is booked up until January ahhhhh.

Re: The Distance (85,044) (85,061) by Andrew from UK
The lovely Jade sent me the link this morning and I heard it once at work and I was underwhelmed. But I thought I'd give it another few goes now. I'm sorry. I wanted to like it because I don't want to be negative for the sake of it but this song isn't me at all. It is apparent Mariah isn't writing another chart-topper or even a charter. But I must disagree with the sentiment here: GTFO and With You are superior songs. Superior. This is a bit blah to me. But I respect people for liking it. There's no hook, no theme, and I would add that Ty Dollar Sign Brit in it made it worthwhile. I am not hating on this era. I just don't like this song. It seems like this album is like a fierce Memoirs. Fierce is good. It's perhaps not what I wanted. But I'm happy to go with having quality rather than the musical direction I thought she should take. I pray for some hooks and party tracks. But I don't want to dampen the spirits of what is obviously an excited collective spirit for Mariah's new album. Fingers are still crossed. Let me not spoil the party.

Taipei show highlights (85,060) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
If you're still one of those who keep track of those fan-made clip compilations on YouTube featuring highlights of her recent vocal performances, you'd know that her show in her Taipei might be her best for this year so far. Of course it's not like she magically got her 2000s voice back, but at least that show saw her in better vocal form than usual (at least post-2010), she debuted With You (which was at least 50-60% live), her tone was a little less constricted but clearer, and she attempted to hit a lot of notes that for the last few years she would usually dodge and substitute all-too-familiar vocal saves for. It was refreshing, because her Kuala Lumpur show was pretty much the standard fare, so this was a marked improvement. Of course the term "slayage" has pretty much lost its meaning these days, especially for Mariah, but this is probably the closest we could really get to her slaying live these days. The best part is that she knew she was having a great vocal night and the confidence was more obvious. This may be a one-off, but I'm just glad she tried harder for this show.

Re: Roc Nation (85,057) (85,059) by B from USA
If the album has a successful launch/first week it will generate interest in Mariah and her music. Seems like a smart move. Both GTFO and With You are steadily increasing in views and streams. The Distance is infectious. Mariah and Epic released GTFO for fans of Hoodriah, With You for fans of Balladriah, and The Distance for fans of Popriah. They've taken the something for everyone approach and it has created a ton of interest in Caution.

Caution (85,058) by B from USA
I pre-ordered Caution on Amazon and purchased a copy of The Distance. According to Amazon Caution only has 10 songs.

Roc Nation (85,057) by Special K from USA
Hmmm, with the releasing a preview of The Distance, I'm starting to think that Roc Nation's focus is more so album driven. They want a monster hit album more so than a number one single if that makes sense.

Re: Pre-order surprise (85,040) (85,056) by Bobby A from United States
I am loving the way her team is rolling out her new music leading up to the album release date. Let's recap how Caution is unfolding.

1. GTFO buzz single with video - September 14th
2. With You first single with AMAs performance and black white video same week - October 4th
3. Caution album release date - 11/16 - October 15th
4. Caution pre-order date - 11/18 with Spotify track download - The Distance ft. Ty Dolla $ign
5. Fan reaction in the wee hours of the morning was crazy. We didn't expect to hear another track from the album. She caught us off guard with that one. Well done, MC.

Has anybody else rolled out an album in this way recently? I am predicting we will get an announcement that The Distance will be the second single and get tracklisting information the week of October 22nd.

Radio is going to play The Distance for sure. FYI, MC is competing with Michael Buble's album Love on the 11/16. I know MC will beat Buble in sales.

The Distance (85,055) by Liz Archer from Sweden
I like the song overall, I just think the beginning is a bit weird. But when we get to the "the distance" part the song starts to move and it sounds good.

Cherish (85,052) by Tameka walker from United states
I just want to say that it breaks my heart that I will never hear another Whitney Houston new album and I feel that we should cherish Mariah while we still got her here. There are so many artists who have passed like Michael Jackson, Prince, Whitney and even Aretha Franklin. When I hear and see Mariah it makes me cherish and love her even more because she is still with us. I myself can't wait for the new music release from the world renowned song bird supreme.

Hello Tim: The Distance (85,050) by Tevin from USA
I love it. Only heard 20 seconds clip and it's already stuck in my head, my workmates are tired of me humming the same tune lol. If you would have told me one day Mariah would be working with skrillex, I would have laughed and said yeah right. This is hot. Also welcome Timothy.

One question, with all of Mariah's tours/Christmas stuff, I'm trying to figure out how she is going to be able to properly promote this.

I never thought I'd see these two names on the same song but yet hear we are - "The Distance" is fire.

"Caution" (85,048) by Billy from Greece
I'll use one word for the way I think this era has been shaping up: bold, especially if I am to judge by the super "vamp" cover. Love, love, love the new track. Listening to three new songs one after the other creates an excellent listening experience, the one enhancing the other. I love the nuanced details she has injected in each one of them, melodically and vocally (that second "for laughs" in "The Distance", the gorgeous prehook in "With Me", the deliberately restrained verses in "GTFO"). MC is here to play no games this time around. Caution.

There is a storm brewing (85,047) by Tijl from Belgium
The further this era unfolds, the more we are all pleasantly surprised by the clever strategy behind it. I feel this time MC can really roll out her original idea (that was stolen) to launch an album as a complete body work and tell us a cohesive story. The deliberately gradual build up certainly evokes momentum. This album is now highly anticipated and not longer seen as the next flop. Second emancipation? More like the revelations of Mimi.

The Distance (85,046) by Mara from United States
Love this song. It is very current and yet Mariah at the same time. She flows nicely with Ty. The one part of the song where she repeats her lyrics even reminds me of one Halsey song and that is who the younger audiences listen to now. I love that she is mixing it up. Tanaka is getting a lot of love so far on this album. He must be loving it. Can you imagine Mariah Carey putting out songs for you? I love the way her vocals flow and soar over the beat when she sings "the distaaaance". So breezy, this one has replay appeal. Welcome to Timothy and glad after all these years you decided to post. If only Mariah would do some Christmas shows in NYC, all would be complete

Love love love all this era. I'm hoping we have another video soon too, something less glamour and more raw. Less then a month to wait for he album of the year.

The three songs she's released so far do tell a story and it's a story I cannot wait to hear more of. The excitement surrounding this era is papable.
