Re: A No No feat. Cardi B and Li'l Kim (86,343) (86,363) by B from USA
I'm here for adding Camila. I liked her and her music but after seeing the video of her giving Mariah a standing ovation at the AMA's I love her.

The promo tour (WWHL, Fallon, GMA) (86,362) by Randy from USA
Vocals aside, I think she's doing a fantastic job in her interviews. I wish she didn't have to parade her songwriting ability around because we already know. The public already knows. Aliens on Mars already knows that she writes her own songs. But she looks flawless, not slutty, and she's articulate and has her big words back. I don't love the album but I'm seeing glimpses of why I fell in love with her.

Re: A lengthy meditation on the album (86,336) (86,361) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Great post Special K. Many great points. I am one who will always follow Mariah's career and find something to enjoy. There is no one who sounds like her and her music in some way shape or form has been the soundtrack of my life and will continue to be even when she's not making music. I am going to continue to enjoy her even if/when I don't resonate with every song. That's just how I roll I suppose. Mariah's fanbase will likely always be divided unfortunately. There will always be fans who. prefer earlier years. That's Ok. If there really nothing that works for some of her audience on Caution, there's not much to say really is there? People don't have to like it. But, you are absolutely right. Mariah chooses to market herself to a younger audience overall She's not an adult contemporary artist. She's also not in her 20's anymore which impacts how her music is distributed and who will play it. Trying to blend in with the Cardi B'd and other music being played currently and still do your own thing, is just part of what any artist does. Like it or not, the slang she is using in her lyrics right now is part of the market that is buying the music she wants to make Just go on YouTube and listen to people reviewing music. It's there.

Mimi L. I don't want to jinx it yet but it seems like your christmas wish might just come true this year as per Lil Kim's manager's post. Let's hope they're not just playing with us.

Re: A lengthy meditation on the album (86,335) (86,356) by Bill from the UK
You're very right about that post coming across as their own insecurities Special K. Exactly my thoughts. No one here knows Mariah personally, the "real me" she sung about in Looking In is more than likely the woman presented before us in 2018. And hell, is it really a big stretch of the imagination to think Mariah wanted to throw her hair back and have some fun on a record, given all that she's been through? She's always said she finds solace in her music. Is it inconceivable that after her divorce, bipolar announcement, Stella etc., that she'd just want to have a good time in the studio? This album is consistent, current, and very, very enjoyable. I think she's done a great job and wish her all the best with it.

He was around during the early Stella days when all of them, Binaka included were enabling, drinking, party fools. Her interviews with DJ Clue used to be too familiar at times as well. Probably a guy thing. Haven't heard from him in a moment. I would love to see/ hear a new Angie Martinez Mariah interview this era. Sometime friendships help interviews, some times not. Angie's interviews with Mariah always seem warm and familiar but more importantly, professional.

Thanks. I get frustrated, but it's unrealistic to think a musical talent, genius even, is going to remain the same, same.

Proceed with caution: Be nice or leave (86,353) by Ethan from United States
I've been waiting to let everything sink in so here are my two cents.

1. The sequence of this album is great. From the chant in A No No to The Distance creates a cohesive body of work. Again, there's a disconnect between critics and some fans. Caution has generated positive reviews from Billboard to Rolling Stone, which has been very critical to Mariah and to see that RS gave Caution 4/5 stars is amazing.

2. 2nd single: The Distance (unless A No No remix is happening soon). The performance on Jimmy Fallon was on fire. Please get Joseph Kahn to direct the MV. Production, production, and production.

3. 3rd single: Giving Me Life. Please get Paul Hunter or Diane Martel to direct the MV. Yes, I left Brett Ratner our for a reason. He's tied with Stella and #MeToo movement and Mariah doesn't need any of that right now. Plus, he doesn't have the swag to direct GML anyway. It needs an urban vibe like The Roof. I have a vision to not have Mariah starred in the music video but to pull a George Michael and have Naomi Campbell in the MV.

4. 4th single: 8th Grade. Just in time for summer/fall to reminisce about school and the transition to 9th grade. Mariah goes back to directing.

5. 5th single: A No No or The Distance. Why not release 5 singles? It doesn't hurt anyway. Cue Joseph Kahn for the MV.

6. It's a shame that there wasn't more time for Mariah to perform one more song on GMA, aka Portrait since it was brought up. Unlike Michael Buble, Mariah tends to be a very private person and doesn't share much about her personal life. This was a moment for her to connect her bipolar II disorder to the Glitter period. In fact, she hasn't discussed about it live on TV - it primarily talked about through press - People magazine. Such a missed opportunity. When that news came out, some of my friends even said it was for PR. I do believe her and I don't think Mariah is the type of person that does it for publicity.

7. I hope Mariah promotes Caution like the way Adele promoted 25. Because of its body of work, it'd be great to hear a different song each time she's at an event or on a show. Unlike 25, Caution doesn't have that one massive hit like Hello but I still think it's a good idea to do it.

8. I love her recent interviews. Besides a bit of shade here and there from the Genius interview, the way she casually dropped names: Tommy and Walter (she even mentioned his name - exclamation mark). I found that quite rare. It doesn't seem she has any animosity towards Walter.

9. I need some production for the Caution tour. Get the curtains/dancers, video montages, props, etc. Get rid of long gowns during uptempo songs. More short ensembles like the pink dress. I better see some hands/legs movement during A No No and The Distance.

10. If you want the 90s Mariah (ballads alone), then go listen to Celine Dion (and be a part of the 1 million fans now out of the 20 millions fans in the 90s). Mariah is musicality and versatility. Her style has been changing yet still has that signature Mariah's buttery tone and velvety texture.

Re: A lengthy meditation on the album (86,307) (86,351) by Steven Berning from USA
Is it all that, though? Why you mad though? lol. It is that deep? The answers are endless, has Mariah changed, has the industry changed, is she trying to stay relevant, at what cost, does she still care, why didn't she throw us ballad-loving fans a bone? Not even one bone? And, Portrait is not a bone lol, etc. That said, reviewers do not agree with you. Even Roger. By the way, you and Roger should go and commiserate.

If she wants to be something she is not, who are we to control her to tailor to our needs? She is still human. She goes through life changes that we know nothing about. We only think we do. If she were our employer, we are at-will employees. Go to Dion's camp. You may decrease your blood pressure.

We are not her employers. We think we are because we buy her music, revere her, and keep her in business, but we are not her employer. My point, we can take this pretty high level. As you so eloquently did. However, she has a right to do what she wants. She pandered to her audience with her last album and it still didn't sell well. Why not indulge yourself even if others do not perceive that as the "real" you. Especially, people who have never met you and are not your inner circle.

Complaining about Mariah being fake for 20 years is kind of tragic. Maybe she wrote Portrait for people like you, sorry can't help it. But how are you not able to move on? You don't like most of her output after 1997 cause she's no longer the diva balladeer. That's the same person she wanted to get away from. Its a great era, but that's the past. If anything, she's truer to herself now. This is the first album where she embraces the current state of her voice and she's more urban than ever, somewhere in the middle and just the right combo imo, and career-wise, as somsone who's achieved everything, she has to decide if she will evolve. Besides we don't really know her, everything around her now influence her. She's getting great reviews, and that's great encouragement to someone who already achieved everything to keep going. She produced some great music here. This album proves she can adapt and her best is yet to come. Those not changing their style isn't integrity, its that they're just not capable of doing it. Ability to change is a strength not a weakness.

Suss One interview (86,348) by 123 from USA
She's really everywhere. She's done so many radio interviews. This one is more relaxed. I loved the convo between the both of them. Why do I feel like Suss has feelings for her? I wonder if they dated in the past. The car/police story is old. They told it during the MIAM era. Which shows that Mariah has hung around and been emersed in her urban/black/her own culture more often than not since her divorce and witnessesed racial profiling. I love the remix talk and actually getting back in the studio for a session. Looks like Suss is going to make some calls to make the Cardi/Kim remix happen. I love all of their private stories and Mariah's microwave anology to today's music.

TRL Elevator (86,347) by 123 from USA
This looks like so much fun. All the lambs looked so excited. MC looks like she is so much fun to hang out with. They got to sing along with her and stand next to her without security keeping them at bay. It feels like we got the old Mariah back. The one that pushed her product with interviews on radio and tv, good tv performances, cd signings, and cool fan interaction moments. In recent years she seemed reclusive and untouchable. Didn't one of the lambs on this board say he was in the elevator with her. Care to reveal who you are? It looked like a good time

Mariah makes an album that updates her signature sound seamlessly by collaborating with the best producers in the industry while remaining true to herself and yet somehow she's not being herself?

Re: A lengthy meditation on the album (86,319) (86,344) by B from USA
Didn't Mariah insist on working with Walter after they clicked while working on Love Takes Time despite his protestations that she continue to work with already established producers like Walden and Wake? Walter and Mariah were a modern day Lennon and McCartney but he took Mottola's side over her's and has faded into obscurity while Mariah is still relevant. At least he got a Grammy for producer of the year as a consolation prize for ending his working relationship with Mariah by selling her out to Tommy. Despite his anxiety and worry that by incorporating hip-hop and R&B into her music she would alienate her fans it has helped her maintain relevance for the past 20 years while her contemporaries haven't been relevant since 2000.

I say not only feature Lil Kim and Cardi B, but add another wow factor. I think folks would absolutely loose it if she also had Ariana Grande and Camila Cabello sing added lyrics to that track. Camila Cabello should sing in Spanish.

Apparently both Cardi and Kim's team knows about Mariah's interest. Plus Mariah went on Suss One's radio show and talked about the collaboration again, so I think it will happen. Mariah has hardly ever been so specific about which collaborator she wants on which song. But in a span of a few days she mentioned this collaboration twice. It's a brilliant idea. It can be like a girl's anthem and about girl power.

Whoa dude, chill out. You sound really upset at Mariah. Let's just be grateful that we still have our Legend M doing her thing. I for one have been a fan since 92 (Emotions era) and I would love for her to bring back that classic Mariah sound back, but those days are gone for her and the industry really. She is moving with the times and I think she did a great job all things considered. I for one already realized Mariah has all the substance in the world and versatile one could as for as a fan. Let her just have her fun as she has most certainly earned it. If she wants to do sexy hip she is allowed. I am surprised she was able to sound sexy, layered and all. I don't think Mariah has any other album that sounds like this album. Albeit, it may not be her best vocally, sonically it's fresh, flirty and fun. Dude just drink some wine and chill out listening to the album which is how I think she intended it to be. My favorite was listening to it in the car. Just wishing Mariah health and happiness for this year. She should be proud of herself for putting out decent work. I for one am interested in seeing what else she has in store for us. Btw, I love runway. I can't believe she didn't include that in the album but I think she was referring to her handlers or the industry lyrically.

Top picks:
Caution
Giving me life
A No No
The Distance

I reread your post again. I can understand how you feel, but every artist has to evolve as the music industry changes. MC is just leading the evolution of R&B music into the pop arena. Who's still in the game like MC from 25 years ago? Let's see what type music she releases when she is 50 years old. How much will her voice have changed from 2018?
