Girl's Trip (83,030)
by RibbonB from USA
| |
|
|
I was really surprised when Mariah signed to headline EssenceFest a couple of years ago. She did ok then, but the best surprise from it was her appearance in the movie Girls Trip I saw it in the theatre, but it's very cool to know that Mimi has a moment at the end of the movie and it seems to play weekly on HBO. I liked her in the Zohan movie, but the movie itself was so dumb I can't stand to look for her part in it, plus it's not really even a cult favorite film and it rarely airs. I would still love to see Mimi as a villain in an Austin Powers type of movie. The right vehicles can have long term positive effects.

She put her magic glasses on along with her miracle cap, just before making her reply. To go along with the romper room creative direction and budget block construction.

I think I wasn't clear enough. I did not mean her personal life. I meant messy performances onstage. Watch pretty much any performance she did in support of her final album.

How did Whitney own her mess exactly? The lack of a public statement and relapsing is not "owning" it. The absence of Clive Davis (and the scapegoating of Bobby Brown) wasn't anyone owning it.

I'm trying to find a way to word this post so that it doesn't come off as super rude, but I really don't care about you, your opinion, or Banaka. It's not that big of a deal. You came out of hiding to defend something that was a joke.

The endless gigging / The Butterfly Returns (83,023)

I guess the music alone doesn't sell as much anymore and so she finds performing more lucrative, even if it means having to do the same thing over and over again for the rest of the year. That's fine, I guess, but it seems like the more that she continues to do this, the more her voice sounds labored and forced, making the difference of her prerecorded and live tones more apparent, which ultimately makes her lipping less convincing. Has she ever watched herself sing? Especially like how she struggles for dear life when pushing herself to reach high notes? Because this is something that she never seems to learn when she mimes. You can't all of a sudden look relaxed and ecstatic on the climaxes after barely making it through the build-up. Lip-syncing is fine as long as you don't try to pull a Milli Vanilli, but the least you can do is make it as convincing as possible. And when you're Mariah Carey, the expectations are even higher. Being true to your current voice is one thing that I appreciate from Whitney. Even when her voice was at its worst and she pretty much made a mess of every performance onstage; even when disappointed fans were walking out of her final tour, she still owned her mess and refused to hide it. The Butterfly Returns seems like a step towards that direction. There's less reliance on playback than usual, leaving Mariah's now mostly razor sharp tone cut through the background music. Her voice continues to become more acquired taste than pleasant, but at least she's starting to show more of the real situation. And this is the best she's looked since the AI days.

Haha. Yeh it was like "one second honey mama needs to lip sync". And then Roc pretty much summed up the crowd's thoughts with his suicide attempt at the end.

She should just stop singing her old songs with her current voice and poor abilities, the magic is gone and it's just not interesting and pleasant to listen anymore. She has a beautiful low voice, why not recording only slow and smooth music so that she can ditch the belts and lip synch? It's time to move on with her career.

The voice? (83,020)

If Mariah, in her current state vocally, auditioned for American idol or The Voice do you think she'd make it to the next round? Do you believe the judges would all turn around for her? She doesn't even have to sing her own songs, let's say she sang "Love Hangover", would the chairs turn for her?

Bored about the tour, eager for the next album (83,019)
by Gilles from Malta

Don't get me wrong I love Mariah but honestly I get bored to see her on tour with the same old songs, sung the same kind of way (no creativity for years, the last show that I loved was the Philharmonic concert in NYC when she was injured (Looking In)). If you are a fan for long, you have the feeling she is making always the same kind of show on repeat. Anyway I saw her in the past, Daydream tour, Butterfly tour, Charmbracelet, once in Australia and her first Christmas show. When I watch new videos online I am not excited and worst I feel disappointed because the songs should be arranged. On the other hand I understand her voice and I wait for a new album, maybe I'll be surprised. She should perform like Beyoncé (no old repertoire only new one and one or two songs fromher past albums). I feel like something new. I am bored.

Hey Jade, how are you doing? Yes I did get married and it was amazing and everything I ever wanted. Feels great to be married to someone I consider my best friend. Honestly wasn't even looking for a relationship when I first met my husband and it's crazy how life has things planned out. Thanks for asking, it was really sweet of you. I hope you and your husband are doing well. All my love and best wishes.

I don't care if she lyps Fantasy or Honey as long as she sings My All and other ballads live. It makes sense to lyp the uptempos since doing preserves her voice for the ballads.

The Butterfly Returns (83,016)

I think with that show in particular Mariah has more creative control as far as the set list where as with the first residency it was based on promoting the #1's. Hopefully she changes up the set list for the fans enjoyment and as finds the right balance to satisfy her casual listeners and critics who would only prefer the hits. Also it would be cool if she tried some different arrangements with some of the song selections. Hopefully she takes all these factors into consideration as the residency goes along.

I think if you watched the video, you will see one of the dancers behind Mimi is moving the big box, hits the box she's sitting on with his butt as he skims past behind, knocking it over (was terrible timing as was the exact moment she lifted her leg off the floor). Nothing to do with Bryan, however if the boy wasn't super quick it could have been a huge disaster. I know you hate him but lets tell it like it really is, not work it to our favour because we don't like someone.

The more videos I see of this current residency, the more disappointed I am with Mariah. If you get the chance to see the #Beautiful performance, you'll see Mariah clearly waiting for the backing track with the pre recorded adlibs to start. She begins to lip sync along, realises it's not happening, fills in with some mumbling/singing and then looks overjoyed when the pre recorded high notes begin. Who does she think she is fooling? It makes her look ridiculous. Not that she cares as she is laughing all the way to the bank.

The part that made me laugh was when Mariah had the kids on stage singing Always Be My Baby and she was chatting to them between the odd bit of singing. Then when the backing track kicked in for the climax and Monroe was trying to talk to her, Mariah was like "no no not now, what have I told you about talking to me when the key change starts".

Let's hope it's not a race to see if he pops his patella again or she cracks her coccyx. The former is preferable though. But that white feather dress is cute AF girl.

Fantasy could be a slow orchestral movement sung as a melancholy whisper. Or with Mariah and a guitarist on stage doing it a bit simplified country. There is so much Mariah could do. I'd be happy to manage her. But she just goes through the motions and falls flat on her face - literally and figuratively.
