I'm weeping. This is the most positive thing Andrew has ever written. I'll ignore the last line and just take the positive part. Someone pass me a tissue dahlin'.

An article by the Daily Mail is saying Mariah's fans are worried about her and quoting a Twitter user named Jenny From The Block, I can't.

It has to be "Lead the way" for me, flawless. And then "Anytime you need a friend" dance mix, love the power and slightly jazzy feel to her vocals, and that she put the effort in to the remix.

I never thought I'd see the day when the press/media is praising MC and the fans are ripping her apart. Major publications such as Rolling Stones are raving about the performance as well as general public. I'm at lost for words.

Why he's allowed to post messages that violate the rules of the board while others get banned is beyond me. He should've been banned when the infamous YouTube troll Isaac Ortiz was. Like Isaac, Andrew thrives on drama and creating division. Mariah's AMA performance had the intended effect, it has people talking. Like Mariah herself some love it and some hate it. Did she sing the entire song live? Most likely not. However, she lipped convincingly and when she did sing she delivered.

On a positive (I can do it sometimes), the choreography and staging was very impressive for a Mariah Carey performance. Tanaka is obviously very good at what he does. He took a statue and made something of a beautiful flower around it. Ten out of ten.

Heaven forfend people from being offended, right? I made the comment to make a point. My name is probably the most used as a subject title on this board. I have been called everything under the sun and been criticized, mocked etc. And you know what? I can take it because I understand I am critical and "brutal" in my position (a word I think was probably quite apt). But people better be able to take it back and understand that social justice group hierarchies do not bother me. That is, you don't get to go for someone then moralize that their response wasn't within rules that you have, yourself, decided. I didn't see anybody getting upset for big-fore headed people of the world when mine was (albeit quite comically) mocked, and so on. You can call someone old or a queen and that's okay, right? Age discrimination and sexual orientation discrimination is okay. Don't waste my time. At the heart of this, I am essentially [censored] off with Mariah ruining her last chance at anything great, so this feels like the last stand. Whether it is or not I do not know yet. But people can continue to come for me, and I couldn't care less. My opinions are my own (I believe I speak for some others) and I will make them until either I get so [censored] off with Mariah's nonsense I give up or I get kicked off this board. But I can tell you that Mariah's spokesperson instantly turning her into a victim is ridiculous and misplaced. People are literally begging for Mariah to write good music and, above all else, sing it. I want nothing less and nothing more. It's her bloody job. But she does not sing. She doesn't even try. What you saw was a statue pitiably perform by moving a left arm around. Crash test dummies are more animated. I agree with Adam that an honest interview should take place. If this is the future I can assure you I will likely not be around much longer. And I feel assured, perhaps arrogantly or perhaps just logically, that if someone like me gives up, her career is over. Send in the clowns.

AMAs (84,680)
by darrian liu from taiwan

I was so deeply disappointed by the performance. We're not talking about pre-recorded or dubbed vocals here. We're talking her literally standing still on stage, singing the first little run live, and then just sticking the main studio vocals over the music. Mariah, your voice was fine in iHeart Festival. Your voice was completely fine in that first line. We all know you could do it. This is her laziest performance to date. I don't even know if this could be considered a performance. I could handle 3 takes of the performance pieced together. I could handle partially pre-recorded performances. But this one? Damn Mariah, this is the most wack shit you've done this year. Anyone could stand there, look pretty and mime to the mic. I sincerely hope her team is working to clean up this mess because chief, this ain't it.

This message board is sad (84,679)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway

Wow, I had a few years off this message board, because I didn't need the negative comments, but wow, this message board is now a place to tear Mariah down. And Andrew, how you've evolved into a disgraceful part of this community. Do you treat other people in your life this way? I'll take Mariah's current voice over your negative outlook on life every day. I'm not less disappointed that Mariah's voice is in the shape it is, but no singer gives me the feeling she does, especially when listening to 90's Mariah. Haven't any of you lost some abilities just because you have gotten older? Do people around you then humiliate you in such way that it almost sounds evil? It sounds as if your happiness is depended on Mariah's singing abilities. I'm glad I still have the ability to still enjoy her presence.

Bad place (84,678)

It's sad that this has become a place of negativity and just general hate bashing now. If you don't like the direction Mariah is going, then please close the door and lose the key. There's nothing stopping you from leaving and just enjoy the happy memories you have of 90's Mariah, instead of continuously bashing her now and tarnishing the happy times you're desperate to have again. Buh bye.

In Andrew's defence, and not that he needs me fighting his corner or anything, he's been called a lot worse by people on here. It's a message board, put it in perspective. We're all clearly very highly strung following the AMAs, let's all relax. So. What's your favourite remix?

You think that you are funny, don't you? You are just a clown and you always have nothing good to say about MC. You don't appreciate the fact that she still makes music and didn't fade away after the 90s like other artists. I guess it must be the bad weather that makes you a bitter and miserable person. You are a sad case indeed. I have another meet and greet with Mariah, and I'm going to ask her this time, if she reads fan sites. I understand your opinion that you are disappointed with Mariah's current music and performance but it gives you no right to be so insolent and derogatory towards her.
As for salad... naaah, I will not take your suggestions because I don't take advice from the mentally unwell. Stop torturing yourself with "With You" and go play "English Country Garden" on repeat. I am sure you can sing along to that very well.

Please please prove them wrong but... (84,672)
by Nicole from US

Lemme tell you guys I hate the music that these millennials listen to nowadays. Gone are the type of singers that chart because of their voices. The 90’s was proof of that. I maybe getting to that age but hell I'm not going to be calling myself eternally 12 either. But come on now Bebe Rexha or Taylor, Ella Mai? At least what these girls lack in their voices they make up with their videos or live performances. I mean I would even prefer Nicki Minaj over Cardi B because that girl gave very good critiques during the Idol days in terms of singing. Nicki even gives respect to singers and legends. I want Mariah to prove to the naysayers that she could actually deliver. But you know these lackluster performances make people talk so badly about her shot voice. When is Jay ever going to say something about it?

Common sense is not that common (84,671)
by Ethan from United States

One time at the 2018 AMAs Mariah didn't move much and some "lambs" and other people criticized. How could she move with that specifically choreographed routine? I guess she could move up and down with her legs or have more hand gestures. Didn't she move/walk around at the iHeart Radio Festival? Anyway, it's one of the more artistic and visually numbers since her performance of WBT at the MTV Movie Awards back in 2005 (honorable mentioned All I Want for Christmas at the VH1 Divas Live since the choreography was great). Yes, the live singing was questionable with layered vocals and backup vocals. At least Billboard ranked her performance at #11. And is someone on here going to criticize about that? Higher? Lower? Mariah's had several peaks in her career and that's the way it is. I guess when you're in the public eye, that's online "bullying" that people have to endure.

Nobody asks her about the voice because her team already gives the questions to be asked. I mean I am just wondering if we are the only ones noticing these things or are we just crazy. But someone really needs to step up because apparently the public humiliation during that NYE performance wasn't really a good wake up call.

No win situation (84,669)
by Matthew from USA
| |
|
|
If she lips badly, we will mock her for being so lazy she can't even properly lip. If she lips perfectly, we will mock her for lip synching in the first place. If she sings live and sounds exactly like the studio recording, we will say she's lip synching because it's impossible for her to sound exactly the same as she did six months ago when she went into the studio to record the song. If she sings live and sounds a little different from the studio version, we will says she clearly pre-recorded an alternate version of the song to fool us into thinking she's singing live. If she sings live and sounds absolutely ratchet, we will agree she's singing live but say it's an absolute shame that her team let her come out on stage like this. If she's live and she refuses to sing and instead walks around the stage mumbling things, we will say it's a disgrace and she should have at least lip synched for heaven's sake. In this day and age, there are many ways to promote an album. She can do radio interviews, host her own radio show, do cameos on tv shows, license a song for a soundtrack, do merchandising, release a memoir, or do concerts where the fans seem to leave smiling and singing her songs. She should just skip these performances because it doesn't seem like she can win. I personally thought the performance was a win, even though I don't really like the song.

Yes the liveliness or lack thereof has been an issue for a while now. She's still a favorite diva but after this round of fall and holiday season tour dates are done, I hope she takes a minimum two year break. Enjoy those kids. Perhaps a period of mothering and mundane matters could be good after the last few years of circus. There's so much she can do until the kids turn ten.
