Re: Underneath the Stars/Fourth of July Mashup (82,919) (82,926)

So we are agreed in that the "we did this then this and it made this happen" storytelling and the setting of a scene and creating atmosphere is preferential to more "down wiv da kids" lyrics and "you make me feel this wayyyyy" way-overdone stuff. Adele has thrived from it because it is what people have reacted to for a while now. Somebody Like You is a shining example of a heartbreaking moment when you desperately revisit an ex that had moved on. Whether in your head or not. It is a universal experience. When We Were Young is a good example of nostalgia tinged with sadness. People want stories, honesty, atmosphere, mood - not constantly generic lyrics. In my opinion. If one more song comes out with people arguing over who the [censored] it is about - Luis or Motorola or the Smurf - then stick a fork in me. I'm done.

Mariah had financial problems in 2001? She was paid a $21 million advance in 2001 for Glitter and bought out of her contract for $28 million in 2002.

This is nice. I've never been a huge fan of 4th of July (don't say it Bill lol), but this mash-up makes me appreciate it a little more.

Heard this yet? Smooth, intricate ethereal harmonies. Mariah at her true vocal peak. The perfect balance between levity and gravity.

I have always listened to these songs back-to-back and is my favorite Mariah combo of all time. You're right. Sometimes I listen to Mariah's more recent lyrics and while they are still more relatable and honest that what she started writing during the beginning of her career (albeit have become progressively try-hard or even immature at times), I miss the poetic quality, that special thing that both of these songs overflow with.

Those two songs are classic with imagery of two carefree young people in the midst of love exposed to the elements in the warmth and abandon of summer. I often thought the Always Be My Baby video was more suited to them. I visualise it when I hear those songs, the two youths running through fields in the dark and swimming in the lake. Mariah would do well to create an updated version, a new track along the same lines and start telling stories once more, returning to a stripped down, non-over produced format. One of the best things about #Beautiful was that it suggested a story, it had atmosphere. That was before they decided to suddenly stop the song half way through. Mariah is at her very best when she tells stories, creates feelings of nostalgia for love or youth or recounting a memory.

Touring (82,912)

At this point in her career Mariah is considered a legend and legacy act, and like most artists in her position they earn most of their income from touring because record sells are not as big as they used to be. Yes M is a very wealthy woman but in order to keep up her lifestyle and take care of employees and family she has to work and right now touring is helping to keep the revenue coming. But if you believe that Mariah is struggling to maintain you are definitely living on another planet.

She's worth so much $$, Mariah doesn't have to work for cash. What I believe she's doing is keeping "career longevity" which she desires and has talked about. That's what matters, and she's doing it. She's an Elvis, a Michael Jackson, a Madonna, a Cher. If she were to stop working, then her legacy withers. As long as she works, she remains a star. It's addicting but that's how it goes.

Interview about Emotions album (82,910)

I found this short little interview on IG about Emotions. She talked a little about how involved she was with the creation of this album. They highlighted CLG (of course). The interviewer asked her if this album didn't do great how would she feel. She said "If it doesn't do well, then it doesn't do well." You could tell by the look on her face she meant that. Lol.

I'm quite baffled by the information you bring as actual facts. You say "Mariah talked about her serious financial problems back in 2001" - when exactly? From my own "research", Mariah has never discussed "serious financial problems" publicly or used a phrasing that resembles that. The quote "the money ain't in my bank account" was said during a 1997 interview with Jamie Theakston when he asked her about a rumor that suggested that she's made 200 million dollars, which at that point was pretty logical since she was only 8 years in the business. Also, during a 2011 interview with Rosie O'Donnel she mentioned that because of the recession and everything that has has happened in recent years "nobody's safe no matter who you are" but that's as far as she gone in making a statement about finances.

Dahhhling, please. Mariah is living a very lavish lifestyle and she doesn't tour around the globe for her backup singers or her band but much more because she needs the cash. She had to sold her own G4 (private jet) a few years ago and recently even sold her engagement ring. Mariah talked about her serious financial problems back in 2001 and all the hundreds of millions, that people think she owns, do not exist. She mentioned it herself at TRL. "The money ain't in my bank account." Of course she has enough money to live a good life, but she is no James Packer. He could afford to pay $100,000 a month to order Mariah exotic flowers from all over the world and gifting her with expensive jewellery, because he is a billionaire. Some people live in denial if they think Mariah doesn't need the money to keep her lifestyle the way it is.

Andrew, I love your sweet sarcasm. Thank you for bringing me back to reality. I have too much time on my hands thinking about Mimi's next album. I am actually in Nutbush, Tennessee. If you blink, you will miss the whole town. Look it up. If Tina Turner can get out of here, then surely I can say goodbye to Nutbush city limits.

It's not just that the kids may have colds, Mariah is on stage "worried sick" and unable to perform properly due to the worry. Think about it: what if, um, Roc's nose, er, runs? What if Monroe gets a really really really sore throat? Who will perform the emergency surgery? Who will counsel Mariah through this terrible time? "No one really seems to ask." Take this down, dear: "Dear Mr President: a grave oversight has presented itself. Nobody, but nobody done be asking what Mariah Carey does when dem babies got boogers. Please rectify. Yours sincerely, the fruitloops of the world."

You created a book about the MIAM recording process and you're studying it to help you guess the recording process of the new album? And now you suppose that Mariah is touring not to primarily make herself money but to make her backup singers and band money. Rightio. Of course the buses don't go where you live - your part of the world can't be found on civilian maps. Give Edouard your coordinates, though. Perhaps he can land there when he visits planet Earth.

Does anybody else think that Mariah has been doing all of these Vegas and Christmas shows so her band, Maryann, Trey, and Sharon can have income each year? And I am beginning to think that the album isn't coming out until 2019. If the album was finished in September, when is she going to have time to do promotion before it drops in 2018? She is in Asia much of October through November 6th. And she said in an interview that December is not a great month to release a new album. So true, because she is in Europe for the Christmas shows. The rest of the year is going to be pretty interesting to see if she drops an album in 2018.

Today I pulled out my book I created about the recording process and reviews of MIAM. Ironically, Mariah is being more elusive about the recording process for her upcoming 15th album. So, I wanted to give each of her albums a one to three word tag to kind of gauge what I can expect for her 15th album. She is being very secretive about this one for sure. 1. Mariah Carey - powerful debut 2. Emotions - sophmore masterpiece 3. Music Box - ballad heavy 4. Merry Christmas - Mariah at her best 5. Daydream - pop infused R&B 6. Butterfly - hip hop gem 7. Rainbow - multifaceted Mariah 8. Glitter - 80's influenced 9. Charmbracelet - so underrated 10. The Emancipation Of Mimi - the comeback 11. E=MC2 - Mimi part 2 12. Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel - Daydream meets Butterfly 13. Merry Christmas II You - great vocal moments 14. Me: I Am Mariah - critically acclaimed
