Sade (81,266) by Mara from United States
So I managed to listen to the new song by Sade before they removed it this morning. Seven years is a long time and it doesn't disappoint. It's called Flower Of The Universe and it's everything you would want from a Sade song. I just want to listen again in HQ and download it. Not sure when the soundtrack comes out. It should be soon. She is another artist on another level who just takes you somewhere with her music and unique voice. She is another one that is pure musical food for your soul good.

"If it's Over". One of my favourite songs of all time, and of course the live version of "You and I".

I had Musicbox dream (81,259) by Jamie from UK
I had a dream last night that Musicbox was rereleased for the 25th anniversary and it had loads of unreleased songs on it. Imagine how cool that would be if it came true. I over heard a guy at the SSFT saying that apparently there's a whole albums worth of songs from between Musicbox and Daydream era. I hope that's true also as her voice was on point then.

#marchforwhat? (81,258) by Andrew from UK
In a land where no social change ever seems to truly come about, has the United States just become a land of hashtag-ionable movements? What nonsense.

"Melt Away" from Daydream is a great example of Mariah singing in her low register, or a low key.

Favorite televised performances (81,256) by Tijl from Belgium
Hello everybody, what is your list of favorite televised performances by Mariah. Mine are (in a random order):
- "Close my eyes" live at the Rosie O'Donnel show (1998). This is Mariah in her purest form without any diva attire or behaviour. A beautiful and stripped version of one of her most poignant songs.
- "Got to be real" with Patti Labelle. Mariah's cameo during "Live. One Night Only" in 1998 is pure fun and both ladies' voices blend nicely.
The TEOM era (2005) brought some fantastic and even epic performances. Everything was so much on point: Mariah's attitude was professional, fun and fabulously glamorous.
- "Shake it off" and "We belong together remix" at the 2005 MTV VMA in Miami. Mimi performs outside of the evening's venue at the National Hotel on South Beach in a set-up befitting the comeback queen. Completely OTT but absolutely fantastic.
- "It's like that" at the VH1 Save the music in NYC. The most fun I have ever seen Mimi have on stage. Great connection with the audience and one hell of an entrance.
- "We belong together" at the 2005 MTV Movie Awards. It felt like an audience with the queen. Fantastic optical effect with the black and white versus Mariah in the red Armani dress. A legendary performance.
- "I'll be lovin' You long time" at the 2008 MTV Awards in Japan. Mariah is at ease and owns the stage. One of the last times she really showed why she is an absolute superstar in the firmament of pop music.

Singing low (81,255) by Jeff from USA
Hi everyone. I've been on a kick lately trying to find songs that MC sings "low". (I'm not musically inclined, so I'm not sure if it's a key or a register... someone can instruct me, if you're willing.) Anyway, looking particularly at Daydream forward for any songs that qualify. Is anyone out there able to think of any good examples? Much love.

How amazing is that? Still doesn't beat Languishing or Close My Eyes.

Re: Don't Explain (Billie Holiday cover) (81,250) (81,253) by Andrew from UK
Again I don't see what is professonal or quality about this. It is not the standard of performance she would once out on. This jokey mumbling and awkward movements coupled with quick bursts of "Mariah's doing something and I dont know something something something with a little something something" followed by a long "ho" followed by fluttery eye sheepish smile may be funny to some fans but it is not vocal entertsinment as far as I am concerned. But hey let me not "hate". Just do not get what anyone sees in this. Sometimes with Mariah now it feels like the singing is secondary. Like its an annoyance she just wants to get out of the way. Kinda like you lot with me

Re: Don't Explain (Billie Holiday cover) (81,251) (81,252) by Bill from the UK
Lullaby of Birdland was down on the original track listing for MIAM. It pains me that there is potentially a studio recording of this somewhere, and not just what we heard on the Elusive tour. I agree, Don't Explain was sung really well and this is exactly the type of style Mariah should be singing in now, rather than lipping notes she can no longer hit and yelling out "EH" every so often. I've always said a jazz album would really suit her, but she could put a modern edge to it. Like, I don't know, jazz classics with a modern sample behind them, or her re-arranging the song or re-writing the lyrics. An even new material written in that timeless style. She did all that with The Wind back in 1991, and that's probably now the only song she can sing from the Emotions album unaided.

Re: Don't Explain (Billie Holiday cover) (81,250) (81,251) by Stacey from USA
Yes, and yes, and yes. Lullaby of Birdland too is a fabulous track. It would be nice to see her dip more into this genre.

Don't Explain (Billie Holiday cover) (81,250) by Lee from UK
I came across these today after being caught in a YouTube loop. I didn't know Mariah performed these covers but I think this genre is absolutely perfect for her current vocals. This one is better visual quality and this one is better vocal quality and I think she remembered more of the lyrics here too.

Hero rendition (81,249) by Edward from USA
In my opinion, this rendition of Hero proves that Mariah can use what's left of her voice and still make great music. But she should focus on her artistry rather than trends and looks.

Just love this cover of Hero released last year.

Busta collaboration (81,247) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
Their first collaboration was very good and still if you hear it right now. I doubt collaboration number two will be as strong and it will only spark comparisons. On another note Busta has not been on the tip of anyone's tongue either as of late even with the collaboration between he, Missy, and Kelly Rowland it came and went. Honestly unless things are handled properly I would rather this collaboration be put in the can. As for MC I just need for her to put the same amount of energy and focus into creating a great project as she does to her image nowadays.

I'm always excited to hear her voice but I was never really interested in this collabo. I hope it's good if we ever hear it.

I believe he stated in an interview that the album was pushed back. He released a single with Missy and I think the album comes out in May, so it may be a second single? Who knows but there is still a chance.

Re: Rumor check (81,243) (81,244) by RibbonB from USA
Yup, I just stated that Jay and Bey might get a big hit that sounds like hot trash. Mariah has got to be really good and still work hard and pray. So it seems.

Re: Rumor check (81,236) (81,243) by Edward from USA
If being paid means blocking an artist from releasing mediocre music, I think that's good. While we can sit here and lose a dollar for a mediocre song, the label would be losing at the end for studio time, promotion and such. With popularity you can risk being mediocre, like Taylor Swift and some others, because at the end, they'll sell. In Mariah's case, the label won't invest in something that won't bring in the coins, it's business. What's left for Mariah? Well, she probably should forget she's eternally 12, give Dolly Parton her boobs back, and focus on crafting great songs showing some growth and great lyrics. I'm talking about that music we all know she's capable of crafting. Some of us seem to have forgotten that Mariah would produce quality even in ringtones or TV commercials. She definitely doesn't owe us anything, but we don't owe her anything either. With that being said, she should sell a product worthy of the money she sells it for, it's only fair.

Re: RibbonB (81,237) (81,242) by RibbonB from USA
Oh I know, I should have clarified Parkwood adjacent with Roc Nation. Lol. I think it is tragic that Bey, Jay, Khaled and Future are gonna have a hit from their Parkwood, Roc nation collabo. Bey can put out hot trash and get a hit from her hive participation.
