Re: In defence of Andrew (79,741) (79,746) by Marissa from USA
Quick question: What is the difference between being continuously "racially insensitive", never apologizing or modifying your behavior, and being racist? As a person who has experienced it, there is no difference. Everyone has said something racially insensitive out of ignorance before. What keeps me from categorizing someone as racist is if they are quickly (caps) apologetic and make an effort to modify their behavior for the better moving forward. He does neither, so that is why I have given him that label and not budged. Like I said before, this really isn't about his opinion anymore. He's not changing no matter what we say. I don't hate him and wanting someone to be held accountable does not imply hate. It's about someone who doesn't even try to adapt for the sake of the community after years of complaints and has been consistently excused. Also the phrase "offense is a choice" implies that no matter what harmful thing a person does to you, the fault lies with the victim for acknowledging that it's morally wrong. They should have just not gotten offended and everything would have been fine.

His comments are racist. Stop defending, explaining, and escusing his behavior.

Re: Why are weapons formed against us prospering? (79,740) (79,743) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I read all of Andrew's posts. I don't skip over them. If something someone says on here triggers something for me. I see that as a chance to look inside and see what meaning. I am giving what is said. Others are not responsible for my peace I am responsible for that. Andrew can say anything and the only thing I am responsible for is how I respond to it and whether or not I let it wreck my day. Don't misunderstand I am no way saying an unloving disrespectful behavior is Ok, it isn't ok. There ate lots of things said here on a daily basis that break Eric's rules. People's beliefs are a reflection of what goes on for them a need that is not being met and a deep call to experience acceptance and love. Not sure an outright ban would actually fix anything it might seem to until the next to come along and influence the boat, but I can aso see the position Eric is in. Bottom line Andrew is not responsible nor does he control how I see Mariah. I will not adopt racist or unloving behavior when it is posted here and Andrew is not responsible for my enjoyment of the board. No one poster here is except for me. People who are hurting deep down, hurt back.

Eric (79,742) by Edward from USA
I agree with Eric. He just should enforce the rules a little bit more without turning the board into a boring mess or into the Mary Poppins Archives. I don't think Andrew should be banned, even though I know most people are out for his head with good reasons. By enforcing the rules certain posts wouldn't see the light of day. One thing that is very strange is how a couple of people think it's not ok to be racist, but that's ok to be homophobic and being vocal about it here with name calling and insinuations.

In defence of Andrew (79,741) by Anonymous from UK
I say this as someone who responded angrily to his last comments: Andrew shouldn't be banned from the board. Yes his comments can be racially insensitive and stem from a lack of understanding, but they're not explicitly racist nor do I believe him to be racist, thinking himself superior to another race. And yes, his comments about Mariah or others are at times harsh, written in the manner and attitude of the pretty vicious/overreactive UK press and sections of the public (the wig comments - totally out of emotional context) but he does genuinely love Mariah and is a product of his society, not a cold hearted nasty person. There is often truth in what he says - MC has been lazy, sloppy and messy in many aspects of her career for literally years and it is valid to point these things out, even if you don't like the way he puts, their regularity or she is "doing better" now. Offence is a choice and rudeness is subjective. Hatred of him for having or expressing opinions, or for semantics, is no better than what he's accused of.

Re: Why are weapons formed against us prospering? (79,728) (79,740) by Marissa from USA
Thank you for your response. Andrew is not a misguided person who just needs a little correction. If that's the case, where is his apology over what he just said and the things he's said in the past? I don't even want it at this point because I know it would just be a b.s. attempt to stay on this board. He has no interest in changing, whether it's being racist or being evil towards Mariah. He doesn't even apologize for the things he says. He just disappears, posts a few neutral messages when he comes back and strikes again with his vitriol when he wants to shake things up. We have had to confront him over the same issues over and over again. When he's having attention withdrawals he says something inflammatory and cruel in order to get his needs met. Our confrontations can't help him because he doesn't want to be helped. I understand your line of thinking but we've shown him for years that the things he's said are unacceptable and quite frankly, that isn't our job. This is the Mariah Carey Archives, not the Educating Andrew Archives and he is too much of a distraction from the reason we come here: Mariah. I appreciate your promise to enforce the rules more strictly because I truly feel like we've suffered enough after years of trying to police this dude.

Flashback interview (79,739) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I just wanted to share this old but gold interview with you. It was before her career took off. Back at the day where she hoped for "some success". I love her speaking voice so much. At the end she said: Thank you darlings. Now we have 2017 and wish her the best. It's good to see her happy again.

Re: Lil Snowman video (79,734) (79,738) by Jared from USA
Yes, they should've used footage from the movie. Anyways, just want to say hi to all the lambs in the land and wish you all a Merry Christmas. I was able to watch Mariah at the Beacon on December 2, and she was lovely and sounded good. I'm so excited now that you-know-who is out of the picture and she is under new management. Things are looking up.

I thought the exact same thing when I watched it. Seems like an odd choice. Especially since the characters in the video even seem to be inspired by the movie that was based on the book that was inspired by the song. That movie and little Mariah in it are so cute.

And this time it's for my favorite song from "Memoirs" and in my opinion, her version the best cover - "I Want to Know What Love is". This is so cool, This is a special Christmas for Mariah Carey.

I think they should have used footage from the movie for the 'Lil Snowman video. It would have served both the song and the movie, and even the book much better.

Still with the race thing? Really? (79,730) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Exactly. This is exactly how the song Outside came to be. Mariah grew up and old never really knowing where to fit in at all. She can never be too white, and yet she cannot fully identify as black. She just can't win. It's hard to be feel great and take full ownership of your ethnicity when you are not allowed by society to be too much of one and/or the other. And while we do love criticizing Mariah for both rational and irrational reasons, there is a line - and please, for the love of humanity let the issue of race should be that line. This was something she was born with and into, and I cannot believe that we still have to explain these matters in [censored] 2017. Unbelievable. These days, this issue comes up and it's like, "By the way, the 1950s called - they want their bigotry back."

Re: Undeniable receipts (79,717) (79,729) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I always loved the fact that Mariah is multi-racial. This beautiful woman has the best from "both sides". For me she was always a soul-rnb singer and when she came out, wasn't there this article which said: Another white girl trying to sing black? That's so dumb. I mean I can imagine it was never easy to please everybody especially the music biz people at the beginning of her career. I think everyone is sometimes pigeonholed from others but at the end those people doesn't count. I love Mariah for who she is and it's phenomenal that she sounds so good in every music genre.

Re: Why are weapons formed against us prospering? (79,727) (79,728) by Webmaster Eric from the Netherlands
I still think that Andrew is a fan, somewhere deep in his heart. I also think he is rude and that is why I censor many of his messages or don't post them at all. But I hope that one day he will see that he can't get away with everything he writes and that will only happen when we all point out what he does is wrong. And that won't happen if I simply delete his messages of ban him completely. I think he gets the message, because Andrew hasn't posted anything since his last hurtful message. I see that many of you want me to follow my own rules more strictly, so from now on I promise I will do that.

Why are weapons formed against us prospering? (79,727) by Marissa from USA
"Messages that are insulting (to Mariah, other artists or members of this messageboard) will not be posted." Has this rule ever been enforced regarding the problematic person who shall not be named? He should have been banned years ago. I've seen people confronted more harshly about grammar mistakes than his racist remarks. Just because he isn't calling people the n-word (or maybe that was censored) does not mean that he isn't racist. Racists usually use insidious and covert methods to show their views, but dodge accountability by pulling the "I didn't tell you to go back to Africa so I can't possibly be racist" card. There are many ways to show that you can't stand a group of people without actually saying it and he's shown them all. Ultimately, this isn't even about his opinion. If the rule was being enforced, I wouldn't even be burdened with knowing what his opinion is. That's the point. The fact that you have the power to end all of this and haven't makes me wonder if you agree with him and that's what's hurtful. I can visit this board and someone can be blatantly cruel to my, Mariah, Mariah's children and fans' race and get away with it with no or little protection from the person who can stop it all. Granted, I don't know how many messages he's written that haven't been posted (if any), but I know the ones that have seen the light of day are terrible. The basics that we all deserve is to have our (and Mariah's) identities off limits (race, religion, etc) from being insulted. This board doesn't have to be inhumane to be interesting. His cruelty campaign is actually one of the most predictable and boring things here. If you have no plans of banning him or blocking his messages, can you at least share why you keep him around after hundreds of complaints for years? It's like Mariah keeping Stella around at this point.

Lil Snowman video (79,724) by darrian liu from taiwan
It's a cute video, fun, short and sweet. Although it's a cute song, since its release I've never really been able to get into the song, mainly because of the vocals. Imo it's pretty much the worst vocal performance in studio that Mariah has ever released. Her voice was just so tense and tight and sounds slightly nasal all throughout. It was obvious that she wasn't in a good condition vocally when she recorded it. Luckily now her voice is in a much better place.

Will the real MC please stand up (79,723) by enwar00 from usa
It seems drastically sudden how Mariah went back to her old self, and as others have described, seems happy, relaxed, healthier, more coherent, friendlier, looking better and in better voice. As if the spell really has been broken. It's nice to witness and feel more positivity once again, on this board and outside of it. And all this as we approach the holiday season. AIWFCIY may truly hit the top 10. I guess this makes up for the Christmas show I was going to being cancelled.

I actually do love her more than I did before, but that wasn't hard considering I don't know much about her. I watched that 10 minute link someone else had posted and thought wow Patti has a cool personality. A few things were confirmed in that clip. Very awesome that she is a genuine friend slash godmother to MC.
