I love it, and along with Deadwood, kept it on repeat for a while. I think that sounds like Babyface in the background too. Toni and Babyface go hand in hand like Elton John and a piano. If these two songs are any indication of the sound of Toni's new album, then it is indeed classic Toni and classic R&B and I love that sound. It is so easy to listen to and her voice is so smooth and sultry. Taking me back to Seven Whole Days sound. I love it. (Thursday 15 February 2018; 02:44)

Living everyday life is hard enough sometimes, I can never imagine what it must be like living it with daily scrutiny and especially in this day of social media where things hit the internets before you can blink. At least in the 90's if something happened, you would only hear about it on the news that night or the following week in gossip magazines, then it was somewhat forgotten with the next headline. In today's age, it's online forever and imortalized in memes and twitterverse. God forbid your weight fluctuates, blink when the camera captures you, miss a note at a show, cough during a performance, have a bad day, have insane family members selling stories, go through a divorce, have a bad fashion day or two or year and lastly, be human and possibly have a health issue you may have to deal with. Whatever it may be, first and foremost they are still human. I joke with my family about Facebook and say "thank God it wasn't around when I was in high school" I think I would die if every single thing I did in high school was posted online. Not that it was horrible but I can only image how hard it is now for celebrities. Mariah, for all that she has been through, is one of the if not the strongest women in the business. She also happens to be my "thinspiration" at the moment with how amazing she is looking. If she can get back to looking this good at her age, then I can pull it off too. Especially when, as Mariah often does (not necessarily for "Outside" though), the artist says they want the song to be something people can take from and relate to, in addition to being somewhat autobiographical? Aren't feelings of differentness like what she describes in "Outside" kind of universally understood, regardless of what the specific reason(s) she personally had for feeling that way? I mean, a song shouldn't have to be "Born This Way" for it to be allowed to be thought of as a gay anthem. That's kind of an oddly rigid way of thinking about music and art, things that are often free-flowing and subject to the ebbs and flows and whims of emotion and human experience. I know she talks about how she did in like the late 1980s, and there's been talk about her partying during the late 1990s (Butterfly era to 2000ish), and the mention of "purple takin' me higher" in "It's like that". Are there other periods I'm missing during which she smoked? I like how you refuse to accept the "and we're gonna linger on, gonna linger on" as a replacement for what it's supposed to be in ABMB. That's one of the refreshing things that stuck out. I always listen to the live renditions with my mind being aware of what the album versions are like, but I think I go from "dissappointment-to-acceptance" in the space of a couple seconds max whenever I hear one of those less-satisfying line deliveries. I just find it futile, and unfulfilling. I'd rather be happy. lol I think I have almost everything Ed had done in my library, with the exception of a couple of single releases (which are already on full albums). Makes me feel like 90s R&B is really coming back, which I love and grew up on. I loved Deadwood too, the video as well. I like the track with Birdman as well. Re: Obsessed (80,899) (80,919) by darrian liu from taiwan I share the same sentiment. I love Mariah's music dearly, but after TEOM, she tends to be more formulaic in her approach to music. Not to say that she hasn't released gems after TEOM, but sometimes her songs are just plain uninspired (i.e, half of MOAIA, the latter half of MIAM, I Don't). Which is why I've been saying for years that she has to change up her sound. When I listen to more indie-leaning/alternative artists, I'm so impressed by their willingness to experiment with sounds. Even more mainstream artists, such as Lorde and SZA (although I'd say that they aren't exactly mainstream artists - they have a more alternative-leaning sound) have proven to be quite creative in their music. I wish Mariah would try to test out the boundaries of what she has formulated as the signature Mariah sound - hip-pop fusion with R&B and soul-inspired vocals. (Wednesday 14 February 2018; 14:21)

Toni Braxton - Long As I Live (80,918) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines Her upcoming studio album Sex & Cigarettes (coming out next month) is shaping up to be classic Toni. If Deadwood was great, Long As I Live is, if there is any justice in the world, a smash. She's still got it. This is her sound through and through. It has great repeat value. I don't think the credits are out yet, but this sounds very much like a Babyface production (is that him on the background vocals?). Beautiful. Sidebar: I'd much rather Mariah get back with Babyface than Jermaine Dupri. Melt Away is one of the best songs on Daydream, and that's saying something. (Wednesday 14 February 2018; 12:54)
